I hadn't been to Ray's for about 10 years, not sure why because I always loved the fish and chips. We decided to give it a go about a month ago & I'm pleased to say that they still have killer fish and chips! My bf had never been there and he is now hooked; he ordered a burger, deep fried mushrooms and a green river soda the first time and now that he's tried the fish and chips that's his new favorite. Nice place. You can tell it's been here since 1962. It's probably changed very little in the last 52 years. Of sweet relish on the burger, I am not a fan. But it appears to be part of the standard here. Nine bucks for a burger, fries, and large drink. I guess some things have changed since 1962. Service is below average. No attempt to smile or communicate anything other than business. Saw me standing in the adjacent enclosed, but for some reason unconnected, dining area, could easily have motioned for me to come get my order. Nope. Just pushed it toward the window and called out the order number. It's not a big deal, and I ain't taking any stars away for it. But a place like this has a lot of potential for popularity. It seems a shame to have unenthusiastic workers. Food was average: big bun, little burger. Fries with skins on. Constant humming of some large machine made the older gentleman who was my enclosed area co-occupant remark, "sounds like we're riding the ferry." indeed it does. Well, I was in Everett and went back to Rays after a couple of years. I got the Fish and Chips last time and hadn't tried their burgers. That first time, I watched them put together the food while I was waiting and they did everything right. This time I decided to try their burgers and got a double meat burger with cheese and bacon. While it was tasty, it was disgusting after watching it being made. The guy prepping it didn't have deli gloves on to start with so this is a violation of WA Health Department standards to start. That wouldn't have been so bad except he would put together a burger, wipe his hands on the sides of his shirt, then repeat. GROSS!!! I don't think I will return here. read more

I've driven by this place a million times but never stopped. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. The burger was good, a nice basic cheeseburger with no frills. The fries were pretty bad though. They were greasy, flimsy, a little undercooked, they reminded me of a bowl of brown slugs. I don't judge if the customer service is bad so I didn't include my opinions on that in my star rating, but if customer service matters to you, you won't get much of it here. Funny Story; the last time I ate here, the wife and I were driving away from Providence after getting the extremely surprising news that we were pregnant with our second kid. We had a great deal of difficulty conceiving the first and we hadn't even started to try for a second. Providence wasn't even our healthcare system. We were leaving town that day for a business trip and my wife was throwing up uncontrollably so I rushed her to the ER where we received the happy news. That kid turns 17 this year. We were in happy shock and my wife needed food and this was right down the street. I'm not a big burger lover so I was unimpressed with my burger. Over the weekend, I had to run an unplanned errand up into the city. We live on Seattle Hill and Everett is not where we hang out. We had dinner plans and it was mid-afternoon and I hadn't had time to eat so I was just looking for a hot dog to tide me over. Yelp said that this place had hot dogs so I dropped in. Unfortunately, the hot dogs were only on the kiddy menu but I noticed that they had a nice looking chicken strip basket on the regular menu so I ordered it. It was very good and a fair amount of food as well. Second Funny story; I grew up in this area and Seattle is rabid about our tartar sauce. My parents are from Utah, the birth place of Fry Sauce. I dip just about everything I can in tartar sauce but when I'd go to UT, it was all about the fry sauce. I don't know if there are two regions in the world more obsessed with a specific dipping sauce. I've had a lot of crappy tartar sauce over the years and a lot of mediocre fry sauce as well. Rays has both of these sauces and they're both excellent. I'll give the edge to the tartar but it was close. Lately, I've kind of developed an obsession with good drive in food. I've always loved Dick's Drive In but because of my disinterest in burgers, it wasn't a thing I was into previously. A couple of years ago I tried Pilchuck in Snohomish and really enjoyed it. I've been eating there regularly every since. I've tried a bunch of other drive-ins around the area as well. Most of them are not great. Ordered the 4 pc. fish and chips today. Asked if there was tartar sauce with it. When he said there was on tartar in the bag, I ordered and paid for a second one. Drove down the road to a quiet place to park and eat. When I opened the bag, I discovered that there was no ketchup for the fries. Who sells fries without providing ketchup. For the $11.00 I paid I figured that there would have one ketchup and one tartar with the order. But no, that wasn't the case. So disappointing. Definitely not the Ray's I grew up with. read more

On food alone, 3.5 stars. Ordered the family fish box (18 pieces) and a fry box because I heard good things. We got 18 good sized pieces of cod; fried golden brown, with a light batter that tasted clean and were mostly crisp and not too greasy. The fries were natural cut (skins on), crisp and adequately salted. Tartar sauce looked like house made, but was a little lacking in flavor but there was no malt vinegar to be had. Benches in the enclosed area were kind of low and in need of a good cleaning, and a heater would have made it more inhabitable. I went out for a long walk one day and ended up here. I checked the reviews on Yelp and thought, why not? Well, the walk was good but it wasn't worth the burgers. Ray's has a drive-thru and a walk-up window. I ordered at the window, asked for a Ray's Burger with cheese and bacon, and a Swiss & Mushroom Burger (I was starving). Then I kind of awkwardly stood around outside while waiting for them to call me for the order. There is an inside seating area, but they call your number in the front. It's a little hard to explain but you'll know what I mean if you go there. The Swiss burger was good, the ranch sauce gave it a nice taste that went well with the mushrooms and cheese. The Ray's was forgettable. There wasn't much special about it and the thing that sticks out the most in my memory was that they use romaine lettuce that's chopped up for a Caesar salad, like the kind that comes straight out of the bag. It wasn't bad, and there are worse places for the price, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. read more

Absolutely the best fish and chips in Everett. I ate there at least once a week when I worked there. I recently stopped working up there and I miss it dearly. And the price is fantastic. Around $6 or $7 And I love their tarter sauce For example. They sell fish and chips at Oishi Teriyaki down the street and its over $13 for lunch. And is Nowhere near as good. At that price for lunch you could go to just about any restaurant. Rays also has great bacon cheeseburgers for a great price as well. I wish I lived closer. read more

First time trying Rays and I wouldn't recommend honestly. $16 for a Dbl Cheeseburger and a Shake is ridiculous. The shake I ordered was Marshmallow because growing up there was a Diner near me I used to always get Marshmallow Shakes at and Rays was the first place since then that I saw served Marshmallow Shakes. I was disappointed. Didn't have that marshmallow taste at all, almost tasted like Coconut. I had already drove away when I tried it but I would've asked if they made the correct flavor had I still been at the window! The burger was ok. The shredded lettuce was brown on it so I took it off. Also the first bite I had to pick out hard bits from my mouth that looked like maybe bone or gristle from the meat patty. Not a good first impression. I only ate half the burger. Not much different than a Big Mac in my opinion except that McDonald's has an extra bun and is A LOT less cheaper! Too expensive and not good enough quality to come back. read more

We went through the drive-thru today as we ordered 2 Rays Cheese burgers, 1 fish and chips and 1 large order of the mushrooms, and 2 small fries. Honestly we were so disappointed as when we got home 2 minutes from there all the fries, fish, and mushrooms were all over fried! We couldn't eat it! It was disgusting. It was so over cooked! We were expecting better from the reviews and the video they have on their website. We never have been there before and we're excited to try it. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. I was in the hospital and was needing a cheeseburger. We've always heard about Ray's. I had my family run by and grab us some burgers. When they got back, I was pleasantly surprised on the look and size of this burger. Double patty with mushrooms and bacon. This was absolutely delicious. I'd put this up against some of the larger Chains in CA. As I'm eating this juicy burger, I asked the family what their thoughts were. It wasn't just me being starving and sick of hospital food. They were raving over it. The onion rings are ok. Standard through out the industry. The fries were fresh cut but soggy. I don't care for the fries, but that's just my opinion. Don't let the exterior of the building fool you. This is a great place for a good burger. read more

This used to be a very good place to grab a fresh and excellent burger. It has really gone down hill. We ordered food for ourselves and some company we had over and spent $75.00. We called our order in ahead of time. They said it would take 30 minutes, and the girl taking our order was very rude. We arrived 30 minutes later to get our order and it wasn't ready. We waited another 20 min. While sitting at the drive thru we observed all the staff just goofing off inside. Leisurely making our food and mostly concerned about talking and joking amongst themselves. Once we finally got our food we headed home. The fries were overcooked and greasy, the fish was burned, burgers were cold. I physically got sick from the little I did eat. The next day I called and spoke with the manager. I told him what happened, let him know how rude the girl was on the phone, the poor quality of our food, the fact they were goofing off etc. He apologized for the poor food and said he was told that the night before was very busy and he had not provided enough staff. I then reiterated us observing very few customers and the staff goofing off. He stated "He hopes that his staff wouldn't do that" I requested a refund and he said he could only give us gift certificates to come back another time. After several minutes of trying to get refunded, He gave us a gift certificate to come back another time. Which I was very reluctant to do. After a month or so we tried it again. Unfortunately, it was still awful! I again ended up getting sick and barely ate a few bites. I gave the remainder of my gift certificates away. Needless to say even after over 20 years as a loyal customer, I won't be back. They definitely have some horrible cooks their now. It seems like management did not care they lost some long time loyal customers. They really should have some secret shoppers come in so Management can see how customers are treated and how poorly the food is executed when management is not around. read more

F**king good. Enough said. This place has been around for ages, apparently, and I was fortunate enough to finally try it this weekend for lunch. The best thing about Ray's. They have FRY SAUCE. Anyone that knows me, or follows my reviews, will know that I am absolutely obsessed with the stuff. The fact that they carry this delicious concoction earns them an auto three stars, for sure. I didn't try the burger, my cohort and I split a double Fish n' Chips. Eight glorious pieces of fried fishy goodness served with fries and an ungodly huge container of homemade tartar. The fish was beer battered, crispy, and fresh. A little less breading to fish ratio would have been better but it still hit the spot. One of the better versions in this area, for sure. And not too unreasonable price wise. I'll be back to try some malts and burgers in the future. This place is an institution, and deserves it's communities' business and support. read more

I just can't give the same to the food. $30 for a burger, onion rings, mediocre 4- piece chicken basket, two regular shakes and a couple bucks in the tip jar! Wowza! Please for the love of grease double bag your food! It's not appetizing to take home a greasy stained bag that has either stained your car or clothes on the way home. THANKS AGAIN to a YELP Review.... When going to North/Central Everett, for $2.70, a KIND double-burger leaves a happy heart and a grand after-taste ONLY from this place. Far from frequenting burger-joints (since the average is a F-ING McD's, BK's or Jack's) , it's been near two-months since having a burger. This place, sort of out of the way, in North Everett, is going to become a problem for me. I was looking forward to trying this place after passing it going to and from the hospital every day for the last 2 weeks. Figured since they've been in biz since 1962 they had to be doing something right! Burger was meh...had one overly breaded mushy onion ring and threw the rest away. Shake was fine. If they kept the mayonnaise refrigerated it would have just been non-memorable, but a couple hours after eating there I got to run, and I do mean RUN to the bathroom every few minutes. 3.5 stars Their burgers are good, buy WAY overpriced. Not much is cheap or easy here. I grew up in so cal where there is an independently run burger place on every corner. Ray's kinda needs to get over itself... The place is run by a bunch of teenage girls. Which is fine . . . . most of the time. From a regular customer: Don't answer your phone at 7:04 on a Sunday if you are closed (especially don't let a teenage girl answer). Were you expecting your boyfriend to answer? I have a lot of good memories of Ray's when I was a kid. My family (mom, dad and brother) would go on a Summer evening, get BLT's, burgers and fries and go eat them over by the Everett Waterfront. My family would sit and eat our Ray's burgers while we watched the sunset. The food is good. I personally prefer their BLTs. Also their fries are not those thin crispy fries, they are thick, limp and greasy, but I like them from time to time. Definitely not the most healthy for you, but It is still nice to go here occasionally. read more

Juicy, drippy, flavorful, cheap....*sigh* How I almost forgot about Ray's until one day my bf mentioned it and we made a trip down up the north-end. The burgers are absolutely fattening...but that's what makes a good burger right?! I love crispy fries, something that Ray's lack, but their fries are still good even though they are the soggy kind. Most people eat in their car, i prefer to eat on the benches. You just don't get the same burgers at Red Robin, Applebee's or any fast food restaurant! read more
