Walking in the place is quaint. We ordered in the stand for touch ordering AKA not having to talk to someone. When I went to go get my cup from the front the lady took my receipt ... okay? That's fine I guess for the order. We got a ceasar salad which was just green lettuce and croutons with the dressing that was too thick to pour. But the dressing itself tasted fine just awkward texture. We also got the garlic cheese bread which I really liked and the meat pizza which was good too. We went back to the touch order and placed an order for the tiramisu. After about 10 minutes we went to the front to ask for boxes to go and the tiramisu, they took our receipt again because they didn't know we placed the order. It's very clean Ana modern. If you want to watch a sporting event, they have multiple tv screens. The antipasto salad was so crisp and fresh. Huge portion that I had to take some home in a box for later. My son's #3 plate of chicken and pasta was really good. I asked what veggies came with my salad but the cashier struggled to say so I got black olives that I would have said no to. She was multi tasking by cleaning tables too. To start off, pizza is my favorite food in the whole world, and Ray's is the talk of our dental clinic at UTHSCA. They catered some pizza one night for a group, and the smell of it alone was enriching enough for us to want to come here. Came on a Tuesday night at 5:00PM with 24 people, and there was enough tables and chairs to hold us all. Small resturant, but still enough space for a big dinner with friends. Superrrrr casual inside, with a walk up check out. I love that this is pizza by the slice, allows everyone to order exactly what they want and not have to share with anyone either. Roughly $3-$5 per slice, and it's LARGE. Probably 2 normal slides in 1 of these. I split a medium between 3 people, and it was perfect. Only $14! The cheesecake on display looked beautiful and I wish I got one. I got Gelato instead, and wish I could dock half a star just for the price of this gelato. $5.40 for the tiniest scoop, but again i know ice cream/gelato anywhere is gonna run a higher price when you get it like this. Staff is friendly, food is nothing to write home about.. I've seen many reviews about the workers being young and rude but I had a great experience. They were quick & friendly and I am just glad my experience was like that rather than some of these stories lol The mozzarella sticks were probably my favorite part. The meat lovers Stromboli was suuuuper greasy like I totally understand pepperoni and sausage have oil but underneath was like a pile of grease and it made my stomach a little uneasy. However, it was huge but the size doesn't really matter when you're not going to eat it anymore... The chicken parm was interesting. Not a cutlet but more like a chicken tender. We were wondering why all the oregano on top because it was a bit overkill -- My bf ate it but we had the same consensus that this sauce is what's lacking. I am VERY happy I ignored the yelp reviews and paid attention to the photos. When I first saw the photos I got my hopes up and guess what, Ray's did not disappoint! Is this pizza really 5/5 stars? No...it's more 4/5, BUT... considering there are slim pickings in San Antonio for AUTHENTIC NY Style pizza I just had to give Ray's a bump in rating for standing out. I gotta give credit where credit is due. Most of the bad reviews were geared toward the customer service. I didn't have a bad experience here. Just feed me. Fun fact: I learned that people in Texas are not used to the flavor of NY Style pizza dough. NY Style pizza dough is fermented in the fridge for 1-3 days. That process is what gives the pizza dough that yeasty/doughy flavor. It's a very distinct flavor and I've learned that some people don't like that flavor (sacrilegious lol). Hence lovers of Pizza Hut, Domino's, and Papa John's exist. Anyway...Ray's NAILED the dough flavor. It was there. The texture was spot on as well. I prefer a very tomatoey pizza sauce. The sauce here was good, not amazing, but for sure solid. Ray's is the most authentic NY Style Pizza I have had since living in SA. I've tried Yaghi's, Goomba's, 46th street, and Sapore's. I'd order a pie again from Ray's because it brought me back to the corner store pizzerias I grew up with. Very nostalgic. Very authentic. Wow oh Wow! So horrid day when so many things went wrong. I stopped in at Ray's on the way home, but still had stops along the way. It's great that they used the metal bowl with the cardboard top. It was easily almost an hour before I got to eat this dish...but still quite warm which you can't say for the foam to go containers. I was just bowled over with my first bite of penne sausage. I mean most places say authentic Italian but they are usually a pale imitation of the Italian I grew up on, East Coast, Jersey/ NY Italian. This packed a real WOW! If I closed my eyes I was back eating from a neighbor's Italian grandmother. The sauce, the sausage, the spices...OMG just perfection for me. Loved the bread but not as much as that dish. So why only a three? They gave me the wrong salad...a Caesar salad instead of the garden with blue cheese. The inside while very clean doesn't make me want to linger. First of all- the pizza was AMAZING. I love the taste of a pizza that has a slight char on the crust because you know it was cooked right. Skip the calamari. It was pretty gross. Came here on a Wednesday evening and it was pretty busy. We've been here many times during lunch hours but dinner seemed like there was always a steady flow of customers. We always have a good experience when we come here. My kiddos customized their pizza, cheese pizza with bacon. The adults shared a large Ray's Supreme (without olives) and the Philly Cheesesteak. Everything tasted great. The size of the pizza is similar to NY style where you could fold it in half because it is THAT big. We also had lots of leftover to take home. For dessert, we always get their gelato that's on the other end of the restaurant. Many flavors to choose from. That's a big plus in my book. We didn't have to go to another place to get our sweet tooth satisfied. There's parking in the front of the restaurant but it may be hit or miss because they share it with other businesses. One turned around and said, annoyed , "We're closed!" Wow. "Door out front says 9:30" I said. That really irritated her. "The kitchen's closed, ok?!!" Got it. First time here! Service is efficient, not overly friendly, but effective. Of course I love eye contact and a smile, but we were hungry and they fed us. So... I appreciate their assistance. Had a large (8 slices) Meat Supreme with pepperoni, Canadian bacon, ground beef and Italian sausage (sliced, not crumbled) and an order of garlic cheese bread (looks like a small cheese pizza and smells of delicious, fresh garlic!) and we were stuffed! There is also an array of desserts to be had! Various N.Y. cheesecake flavors like strawberry glaze (no actual strawberries anywhere), turtle (pecans, caramel and chocolate), caramel and nuts and plain. Key lime pie, chocolate cake, german chocolate cake, coconut cake, all kinds of deliciousness! Oh... and can't forget the gelato case. I'm not a huge fan of NY style pizza (it's Chicago deep-dish all the way, baby!) but we found it satisfying and popular. Love the TVs were available on football night. The good: the pizza was good. I ordered a large 5 cheese pizza. The flavors were good, the crust was well done, and just the right amount of sauce. The large was a lot of pizza! Definitely enough to share amongst a family. You can pay over the phone or inside upon pickup. I don't know if they would have been willing to do curbside had I paid over the phone... 20 minutes is a very reasonable time for the order to be cooked and ready to be picked up. There were very few people eating inside and the tables were spaced out. The mediocre: I had to call 5 times to actually get ahold of someone. They answered after a few rings, but always asked to put me on hold. Four times the call dropped after a 5-7 minute hold. Once I finally got in contact with someone, ordering was easy. The not good: Upon entering, there were two women at the front counter. One was wearing a mask, the other was not. I waited several feet away for a minute or two until I was noticed and the other put her mask on. While I was checking out, I noticed two cooks through the kitchen windows/pass through area. Both had masks on that were not covering their noses. I told the one woman who did have her mask on (the other had stepped away) that masks need be worn over the nose. She told me hers was. I said yes, but his isn't and his isn't (pointing) and hers wasn't on at all when I came in. She conveyed the message. I like Rays. I think they have great wings, and the pizza is usually okay, if slightly flobbly when held and not crisp enough. Its some of the best pizza to reheat in a toaster oven, so I dont mind getting more than we need and having lunch for a couple days. Its usually fine. Whats NOT fine is that their new prices arent reflected on the website after their awful redesign. Going by https://www.rayspizzaria.com/order# , where you can PLACE AN ORDER WITH PRICES LISTED (though who knows, maybe its just more for using the store you cant order online from), though theres no "these prices arent the same at our other location" warning, and there is, of course, no menu or prices for the Fredricksburg Rd location): Wings were $2 more than listed ($15.95). Large Pizza was $2 more than listed (we were charged twice for peperoni). Medium Garlic bread was $1 more than listed ($7.95). Its frustrating to think you're paying one cost, and end up paying $5 more. Their new menu also doesnt list kids food, or several of their other items. read more

Then when the food never came the manager said I had to call door dash even though I was never connected to them to begin with. He then tell me they n the phones that this happens a lot but they still keep doing this knowing customers never get their food. Then they want to say I have to contact door dash for a refund even though my card was charged by them and again I never got into contact with door dash to begin with. This whole situation and how they dealt with it was super unprofessional and the worst customer service I've dealt with. They have a pretty extensive menu. My son got cheese slices, husband pepperoni with basil and I got chicken parmigiana with fettuccine Alfredo which also came with bread and salad.
