Slice of pepperoni. Epic. Get this!
    Michael B.

TLDR: Great food, decent service, and a blast of nostalgia when you eat in their dining room. I visited Goomba's for their 2-slice and a drink lunch special. Came out hot and perfect. This is a very authentic NY/NJ style pizza. If you're an itinerant New Yorker, this is closest to a Bleeker Street pie. Very thin crust, with the perfect amount of chewiness and crunch. Mushroom topping was very good. Pepperoni was epic, with a little charred crunch at the end! This place scores a 5 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK having a nosh here with Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn't have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn't have my penultimate supper here, either.

They must have new people bc the service was TRASH. I'm too mad to even write a full post .. Let me try the food I waited 20 min on .. the food I had to sit back & wait another 10 on.. Yea the pizza tasted like cigarettes and the tasted broiled or something but not the same from two years ago .. NEVER AGAIN

Large pizza, half veggie pesto, half pepperoni

I always order to-go, so I cannot comment on their dining-in experience. These New York style pizzas are so flavorful and fresh! The crust is thin, they do not skimp on the toppings and it's just overall very tasty. Local pizza joints with fresh ingredients just hit different. I love the veggie pesto but you can't go wrong with a pepperoni. Yesterday we had half and half and it was the perfect combination. They also have pizza by the slice, appetizers and daily specials. Price is fair. Overall, I enjoy Goomba's and love supporting local neighborhood eateries.

Meh.....What else can I say? It was only $4 and would probably be good if options were extremely limited.

Nice little duck off pizza spot in San Antonio of I-10. Speedy and great service, pizza slices are huge, and they have great daily deals. The place reminds me a little of New York, you're able to get slices as opposed to entire pizzas and the slices are offered in the daily deals that feature either 2 slices and a drink, 1 slice a drink and a salad, or a pasta deal option. I had 2 slices and it was more than enough, so much so I had leftovers. This is 1/2 places I know that actually serve nice slices in the city. The ambience is a very classical pizza spot you'd see in some older movies; the classic red and white tabletops, arcade area, and fountain drinks. Definitely a light time travel and could've served as a hangout spot.

    Spinach Calzone delicious already

The pizza and the calzone were delicious. The price was very fair considering the quality. The young ladies that were working right now were very nice and professional. Lots of easy parking. Nice small dining area. I believe I will eat inside next time.

I'm spoiled since I grew up in Jersey City and had NYC as my backyard. There were multiple pizzerias within a 1 mile radius so competition was thick. Finding Goomba's got my hopes up as "Goomba" was a slang word I'd hear often. Unfortunately, the pizza didn't do anything for me. They also don't serve zeppoles (let alone didn't know what they are). Nothing was crave worthy for me. Does not mean you shouldn't check this place out for yourself. Give it a shot and see if you like it. Its decent pizza, but not the NY style that I'm craving and missing.

Does this taste like actual New York pizza?

Depends on the location. The one on IH10 And wurzbach tastes like baked cardboard. But the one at crossroads mall isn't bad or ray's pizzeria is the same company and is also good.

The food feels like the chefs were given good quality materials, but had no idea what to do with them. We ordered a funghi pizza to share then a cinghiale, a costine (short ribs), and a dentice (bass). Funghi pizza was the only dish that made coming worth it at all. It had a nice flavor, but if you're expecting the notes of an earthy mushroom flavor, don't. It's just a nicer version of a standard cheese pizza topped with some onions and mushroom. The cinghiale was just stunningly mediocre. The meat was flavorful, but the pasta itself was shockingly bland. It was just so... ok. The dentice was the best of the 3 individual dishes, but it is just what you would expect some average short ribs with random sauce to taste. The costine was just terrible. Salty on the outside, yet flavorless on the inside. Avoid at all costs. The service was passable, but they clearly overwork their servers as one server just handles an entire section and is too overwhelmed to be timely. I came to cheer myself up, but honestly it only made dinner comically worse. I seriously can't imagine what would cause someone to rate this as 5 stars. Maybe if they thought Olive Garden was 4.5, then I guess this would barely be a 5 in comparison? Either way, if you're looking for good food for your dinner, keep looking. You won't find it here.

Every dish feels thoughtfully curated with tried-and-true recipes rooted in Chef Luca and his family's Northern Italian traditions. This is the kind of place where quality takes priority over quantity. Our server, Gary, was fantastic. He was friendly, incredibly knowledgeable, and passionate about Italian food and wine. His recommendations were spot-on and his enthusiasm felt so genuine. We started with a bread basket accompanied by a little sampling of tapenade, which was savory, briny, and a perfect complement to the warm bread. Came in with a group of four, we kicked things off with the burrata starter--a surprisingly fun and shareable adventure of baked burrata, fresh crostini, roasted cauliflower, asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, and basil cream. There was a lot happening on the plate, but it all worked beautifully together. For our entrées, we ordered the Tartufo, Cinghiale, Bolognese, and Carbonara. And let me just say, the Tartufo was a full-on dinner performance. Gary brought out steaming hot tagliatelle pasta and tossed it tableside inside a giant wheel of Parmesan. He then topped it with crab meat in brown butter before finishing it with a generous shaving of truffle. Every bite was like a perfectly timed symphony of flavors--rich, savory, buttery, and earthy, with nothing outshining the other. I'd put this dish up against anyone's nonna. I sampled the other three entrées as well, and every one was delicious. The gnocchi in the Cinghiale is an absolute must-try--pillowy, texturally delightful, and packed with flavor. Thank you, Nonna Osteria, for such an epic culinary experience. And a special shoutout to Gary for guiding us through the menu and making an already great dinner even better.

Truly every person at the table seemed to love what they ordered -- we had a lot of "you have to try this!" moments being passed around the table. One thing I especially appreciated was the Caesar salad. I noticed another review mentioning the anchovy flavor in the dressing as a negative, but in my opinion, that's exactly what made it great. So much of the food was delicious. I'm still thinking about the current seasonal soup. It was some kind of puréed white bean soup. Needed to be a tiny bit hotter but if I was a local I would absolutely be going there just to place a to go order for soup on the regular. For me, the fish taste on the Cesar salad was slightly overpowering. As someone that doesn't like fish, that part was off putting to me. The pizza was phenomenal, carrots were amazing, drinks were delicious. The deviled eggs were also very nice. Service staff was super friendly though some things were missed when we first placed the order and we waited quite a while for the soup which ended up not being hot enough. However we realized quickly EVERYONE was waiting outside and they had clearly overbooked or had some issue. Finally, after waiting 20 minutes we were sat. The waittress was kind and let us know the kitchen was having some issues so food would be a little delayed between courses. It was about 60 degrees outside and we kindly asked to turn off the outside fans which were on full blast. Once. Then again, and again, and again. After 5 attempts asking various people we gave up and the waitress let us know she couldnt turn them off because their iPad control died. We werent upset at this we were just upset we kept getting different answers and no explanation for our entire 2+ hr meal. We finished the entree and were waiting for the dessert for about 15 minutes until we finally just flagged down a waittress and asked to get the check and desert to go because we were ready to leave. We waited another 10 minutes before someone else brought us our desert but no check. We asked them for the check and then the original waitress came back with our check and another set of deserts. At some point I saw another server who seemed like the manager or supervisor telling another worker to straighten the tables outside so the corners were aligned... needless to say the table alignment was not the issue. Overall just seemed like the restaurant was overwhelmed and there wasn't alot of communication between tables and the staff. It seems the staff was trying their best but the management wasn't handling it well. Would have appreciated more effort into making sure we were taken care of considering the meal for 2 totaled almost 300$. The only reason this isn't a one star is because of the kind waiting staff.

The family that took her in taught my grandmother all about Italian cooking, some of which she passed down to her daughters. Her spaghetti sauce, which she called gravy, was the best. My mother's sauce was just as good. Therefore, we never ate spaghetti out because we knew it wouldn't be as good. Last night, I was hungry for Italian food. Spaghetti was far from my mind. However, a super two for one deal on Door Dash enticed me to order spaghetti with Italian sausage from Albi's Vite Italian Kitchen. It arrived in two foil pans with plastic domed lids. There was enough food in those two servings for me to eat four meals! When I took the lid off, I could not believe how many slices of Italian sausage were on top of the spaghetti. The marinara sauce looked kind of plain and simple but was surprisingly flavorful. I was able to eat a slice of sausage with every bite. That combined with the chunky tomato pieces in the sauce made for a very satisfying meal. Was it the best spaghetti I've ever had? No. Would I order it when I visit the restaurant in person? No. But it was good enough to make me ready to try other dishes on their menu. I think they will most likely blow me away. The reheated portion I had for lunch today was even better! The pasta absorbed a lot of the tomato flavor. I think my next batch will be fried in a tiny bit of butter the way my mother did it when she had leftovers.

It was extremely salty and completely inedible, so we had to send it back. The waitstaff was very accommodating and agreed that the salt level was way off, so we replaced it with the carbonara. I'm not sure if that's what authentic carbonara is supposed to taste like, but I did not enjoy it. It tasted burnt to me and had too much pepper. I also didn't care for the shape of the noodles. Last, we had the Americano pizza. It was decent, but nothing to write home about. I just think that if you're going to advertise a pizza with meat on it, there should be more than one piece of sausage per slice. As far as the service, our server was fine. The first night I was greeted by a friendly host and sat at the bar, where Billy took great care of me. He recommended the Cotto e Salsiccia, and I'm so glad he did. It was easily one of the best pizzas I've had. While I was there, the cheesemaker let me try a bite of the fresh mozzarella they were making in-house. It was still warm and absolutely delicious. The next night I was feeling a little homesick after being away for work, and all I could think about was that pizza. I walked back in and the host greeted me by name. I sat at the bar again, where another bartender remembered me from the night before, and Billy came over just to say hi. It seems like such a small thing, but when you're traveling alone, being welcomed back like that can completely change your evening. What really impressed me was seeing that it wasn't just me. The guy next to me ordered two pizzas to go, and when the chef brought them out he smiled and said, "Oh, Jose! I thought this order looked familiar!" You can tell they actually know their regulars and genuinely enjoy what they do. The second night I ordered the Fontina e Salsiccia, and somehow it was just as good as the first pizza. Everything is cooked in the wood-fired oven--even the wings--and you can taste the difference. The crust has that perfect char, the ingredients are fresh, and it's the kind of authentic Neapolitan pizza that keeps you thinking about it long after you've left. I've eaten at a lot of good restaurants while traveling, but very few have made me feel as welcome as Dough did. Great food is one thing. Great people are what made me come back the very next day. I can see a child burning their hand terribly on this! What did the restaurant do? Nothing... several times we suggested something be done and not until the manager realized that yes, this is a problem did he do something remotely responsible. I couldn't enjoy the food! I was upset? Hurting and taken back by the terrible way they handled the situation. For reference, I'll show you the picture with the barrier.
