Overall I enjoyed my visit to Recuerdos for the first time, though there were a couple of missteps. I ate a Chalupa Compuesta with shredded chicken and guacamole at the restaurant, and it was crispy and heavenly, accompanied by delicious, airy chips and red salsa. I would definitely order again. I then ordered 2 cheese enchiladas to-go with double charro beans, and that's where things broke down. Everything was packaged with care, except that they forgot my charro beans. I retrieved them the next day, and they were soupy and delicious. I had a taste of the enchiladas at home and was gravely disappointed with the beef chili sauce. Honestly, it tasted like doctored Hormel or Wolf Brand Chili--I'm not kidding. So when I picked up the beans I asked for a cup of their Ranchero Sauce, and it was perfect and obviously house-made. I scraped the horrible chili sauce off of the cheese enchiladas and replaced it with the ranchero sauce, reheated, and voila! New enchiladas were born! I'll definitely return to Recuerdos when I'm in Round Rock, now that I know the good stuff to order. I hope that my "memories" (translation of "recuerdos") are helpful to you as well. read more

What a great find in the heart of downtown Round Rock. I was on my way back to DFW from Austin and needed to stop for lunch. I wanted to get out of the car and I wanted Tex-Mex. That, in a nutshell, is how I ended up at Recuerdos. And honestly how can you not stop at a place where the window has a huge sign that says "Best Enchiladas in Town"? So I ordered the cheese enchilada plate. It was just the right amount of food for someone who hadn't eaten in nearly 8 hours. I ate most of the chips and salsa as well. The salsa was spicy and the chips had enough heft to do their job while not overpowering the salsa's flavor. Everything was obviously homemade. And it was very very good. I can see how this place could get packed, with a limited number of tables. Trust me - it's worth the wait and it's worth making a stop at the next time I head south towards Austin. read more

This used to be one on of my neighborhood favs, but I stopped in recently and was very disappointed. The owner took my order and even though I tried to make basic conversation, he came off very unfriendly and basically wanted to take my order and get everyone out of there. For a local family restaurant that I have recommended so many times to friends...it was not a good look. The rice was dry and cold underneath, clearly from the beginning of the day, the beans were mid at best, and the enchilada shells were so over cooked they were hard to cut with a knife. Not how it works with enchiladas. They were almost empty had only a t small amount of cheese. The verde sauce was their normal. Their prices have gone up like most eateries, but I would never pay $14 for this meal again. I'm not sure what has happened, but I left really disappointed from the whole experience. Since Enchiladas Y Mas has closed during the great pandemic of 2020, Dart bowl cafe hasn't reopened, i have been struggling to find a suitable replacement... I had bariatric surgery in December of 2019, so all i can eat is a couple of ounces of food before i'm stuffed, so it's important to me, that i enjoy things that i eat. An order might last me a few meals. Recuerdos hit the spot. When i got my to go order home and opened it, my wife looked at me and said, "are you tearing up?" I literally first heard of this place right after Covid-19 hit in 2020. Heard really great things, and nothing I love more than great Tex-Mex food. Finally, on January 10, 2021, we decided to check it out for breakfast, because hubs love migas. We arrived and the place was empty. Full disclosure, it was snowing...really snowing in Round Rock, Texas, so I expect that everyone was out in their yards trying to roll up a snowman. Anyway, we were greeted quickly and served chips and salsa. Oh, holy shit! That salsa is tasty! I had to make myself stop eating the chips and salsa knowing migas with cheese were on their way. When they arrived, I first noticed the eggs were fluffy and creamy, instead of being overcooked and tough (don't get me wrong -- there weren't under done, they were well cooked). There were fresh, bright green serrano peppers sprinkled throughout and they were fantastic! The dish was really wonderful! It was a lot of food, so my hubs finished mine for me while I tried the refried beans and potatoes served with the migas. Damn, why did I eat all of those chips and salsa. Ooooh. Beans delicious! Finally someone knows how to season properly instead of not seasoning based on all of the varied preferences diners can have. I sincerely appreciated this food was well prepared and ready to eat without doctoring it up. Potatoes also well seasoned. They were sort of mashed potatoes instead of chunks or shreds. If I were not so full, I would have had more bites of this warm deliciousness! No strikes on this meal. Even my coffee was quite good! Owner and staff were friendly and welcoming, even asking if we had tried their famous cheese enchilallies (sorry, flashback to my ex-mother-in-law, who couldn't say enchiladas to the day she passed). We first got hooked on the breakfast tacos, which have now become my family's favorite in the area. The fresh salsa is absolutely addictive. We have also ordered fajitas to go a few times. The fajitas made it clear that Recuerdos is more than just an average restaurant. The fajitas have a unique (and huge flavor) that have also hooked my crew. The order "for two" is enough to feed my family of 5 with some leftovers for lunch. Service has always been great for carry out, and every order has been delivered spot on correct. The margaritas tasted like 30 cent limeade packets that they claim were made with real tequila (even though there was no tequila to be seen in the restaurant). Queso tasted like watered down american cheese. I ordered a plate with a beef crispy taco which was just fine and two cheese enchiladas, filled with you guessed it.. more of the American cheese mixture. The corn tortillas used to make the enchiladas were hard and crusted on the bottom, likely because they heated the plates so hot prior to service. I tried the beef enchilada plate and it was very yummy. The dish was super hot, so hot until the last bite. The only one thing I wouldn't like too much was that they put way too much cheese on the plate. Other than that, everything else was great! The restaurant is very small, so if you get there during peak lunch hours, be prepared to wait or dine outdoor under Texas heat in the summer. Looks like it's a family-run business. It feels wierd to write a bad review but here I am. I guess being from San Antonio has made my expectations of Mexican food high. Eating food here made me SAD. I had their chorizo plate and the eggs itself were ok, the beans were WATERY. I can tell the chef saw the beans got thick and just added water to loosen it up, barely tasted like beans. No seasoning either. The "hashbrowns" were un-seasoned mashed potatoes. Just a soggy mess. Tortillas are pre-made so that should tell you what kind of Mexican restuarant this is. The food: I've had tacos and enchiladas here. Both were excellent. Someone mentioned their beans and rice as "like every where else" and I whole heartedly disagree. The beans and rice have tons of flavor and were well cooked. My only negative is the cheese used for enchiladas does the weird congealed thing as soon as it's not lava temperature. Happens though. My boyfriend and I came in on a Monday. We originally planned to have lunch at urban because I was craving their seafood enchiladas and didn't realize that they closed on Monday's so I got on google maps and found this place and thought I should give it a chance, even though I'm not a big Tex mex fan (I'm Mexican) First impression was a little awkward since the restaurant Is very small and there's no instructions whether to sit down or have to wait to be seated. Not too long after entering we're greeted by our server and asked to take a seat wherever. She gets our menus out. My boyfriend orders their specialty plate with a crunchy taco and 2 beef enchiladas. I order the 2 chicken enchilada plate. The server brought out chips and salsa which were actually very enjoyable. Once she brought out our plates she says "Be careful, the plate's hot" and sets it down. I work in a restaurant myself and touch very hot plates all the time so I wasn't too phased and tried to move the plate a little closer to me, but this (white ceramic plate) was sooo hot that it actually melted the skin on my finger and I no longer have a finger print, just a blister. The tortilla used for the enchiladas was just breaking apart like cottage cheese and were very stale. I don't know how in the hell they cooked this but if I had to guess, they had a plate of enchiladas with a side of Mexican rice prepped in the freezer and just popped it in the oven with the plate and all for a good 10 minutes and served that. (It would've tasted better microwaved) I don't understand how you can even mess up rice that bad. My boyfriend and I ate half the plate, I tipped the server her 20% because it's not her fault and just left. I will say the charro beans weren't half bad, I enjoyed those. All I have left to say is that I won't be back and that now I have to deal with my boyfriend's very upset stomach and a blistered finger. To be fair, she did warn me but the temperature of that plate would have never touched the table of my restaurant. Very dangerous especially if you have children eating here. Very bad experience. We enjoyed our visit to the space formerly occupied by Mama Sara's, the city has improved the parking situation so the new business should do well. My wife and I both ordered the ground beef enchiladas, we enjoyed them but there's a few places in town we like better. The refried beans and rice were average like most places, my wife got the barracho beans with hers and they were fought over...that good...lots of bacony bits sharing space with the tasty beans. Another superb menu item was the guacamole...fresh and very tasty, I liked the salsa which had some bite, I had some flour tortillas with my enchies and they were nothing to write home about....but the meal and service put my review at 4 stars. read more

We stopped here in downtown Round Rock on the way to run an errand in Georgetown. We weren't sure about local options as we were trying to avoid the usual chains along I-35. Coming into downtown Round Rock, we started using the Yelp app to help us choose an option. What looked like just another small Tex-Mex joint had the best score on Yelp, so we decided to stop in at Recuerdo's. Fair warning. It's a small place, so you may want to visit at an odd hour to avoid a crowd. They don't have fountain drinks either, so you can either get a canned/bottled soft drink or get iced tea. Also, because it's a small restaurant, the service can be a bit slow, although they're beyond welcoming and justifiably proud of their food. Now, to the important part - the food. The chips and salsa are good. The salsa has a surprising delayed kick of heat and is clearly homemade. The queso is pretty standard Tex-Mex queso. My crispy taco was a classic small town Tex-Mex taco with plain ground beef and plenty of yellow cheese on top. I tried two enchiladas, which our server recommended getting one in beef and one in cheese. The cheese enchilada was great, but the beef enchilada now represents the standard by which I judge all enchiladas. The beef enchilada was filled with the same plain taco meat. Both enchiladas were covered in both yellow and white melted cheese. The enchilada sauce is the real winner. The sauce isn't quite chili gravy nor is it a plain red sauce. The best way to describe it is as a chili gravy without meat and with a lot of chili powder in it. Both enchiladas were great, but the beef enchilada was just sublime. My dining companion had similar compliments for her taco and enchilada, although she'd have preferred the guacamole, which was served as a salad, to be without the yellow cheese. This is classic small town Tex-Mex that you used to be able to find from Amarillo down past San Antonio before tastes got trendier. And now that I've found this, I need more excuses to go to Round Rock. read more
