Shrimp with Cashew Nuts and Beef and Mushroom
    Sanghoo P.

Came in for dinner on 2/14/26, with my beautiful wife and toddler daughter, Red Chopstix is located on Elk Grove Florin Road in Elk Grove, CA. For Valentine's Day Dinner, my wife suggested to eat somewhere close to after our toddler had a meltdown. When walking up to Red Chopstix, the parking lot was packed with cars. Entering the restaurant, it was equally packed with lots of customers. We patiently waited for a table and sat down. We decided to order Family Dinner #C for 2. Family Dinner #C consisted of wonton soup, cheese wontons, fried shrimp, house special fried rice, shrimp with cashew nuts, and beef and mushroom. Wonton soup was very savory. Soup wontons almost big as two meatballs, both my wife and daughter loved it. House special fried rice... man, that was delicious! It had shrimp, egg, pork and beef bits mixed with diced vegetables and rice. Fried shrimp and cheese wontons were next and it came out crunchy and hot. Dip it in the sauce and oohhh. Mhm great. Shrimp with cashew nuts and beef and mushroom came out last but as soon as we tried it, we couldn't stop eating it. It was savory, delicious, delectable, aromatic, delightful, exquisite... they all describe the dishes. Every dish was a 5 star worthy. Thank you, Red Chopstix, for a great Valentine's Day dinner!

Yum!! Great neighborhood restaurant. I have to admit I was a little leery on the location only because I am not familiar with the area. BUT absolutely worth it! Excellent service ~ 5/5! Large portions and arrived as ordered. So good! Loved the walnut shrimp. Restaurant was clean and well maintained. Would definitely go back again, especially for the customer service!

After waiting about 20 minutes, our name was finally called. We immediately went to the hostess stand, only to be told we were "too late" and that our table had already been given away. Mind you, barely a minute had passed. When we asked how we were late, no one could give us a clear answer. The entire experience felt disorganized and chaotic. The atmosphere was stressful, staff seemed overwhelmed, and nobody appeared to know what was going on. After the way we were treated, we decided to leave. If you're looking for good dim sum, save yourself the frustration and go to Ming Dynasty instead. The food is far better, the service is organized, and they've been doing it right for years.

And was craving duck so really happy with the flavor. The crab dish was good just hard to eat sometimes because of all the digging. Veggies are a must and the green bean and mushrooms were pretty good. One thing that I wish was different was the plates have this well used feeling lol. If you visit for dim sum or dinner you know exactly what I mean. Doesn't bother me but might bother someone else. But honestly it's pretty typical of most high volume dim sum spots.

For starters, parking is very limited, as it is a strip mall. There is some street parking. By the time we ordered, it was getting increasingly busy. We had only 4 people in our party, so they didn't initially provide us with the menu for larger family set meals, so we had to ask for it. We went for set A which serves 4-6 people. This set included the following: Soup of the day: Simple vegetable soup with some pork/beef in it. Peking spare ribs: Deep fried spare ribs with a sweet sort of sauce. This was a bit saucier than my liking. Not my favorite dish. Empress chicken (half): This was done very well, cooked perfectly. Came with ginger scallion oil. Pan fried sole: Classic, freshly deep fried, with a soy sauce based sauce. Mixed mushroom beef: Beef was tender, dish was seasoned well. Had a good balance of protein and vegetables. Seasonal vegetables and garlic: Simple, but delicious and a generous amount of vegetables. We also ordered mushroom with salted egg yolk from the Chef's Specials menu and it was delicious! This dish was very generous in size. There were pieces of fried beech (or seafood) mushroom in salted egg yolk batter. Seemed like there was at least two grocery store containers worth of mushrooms, if you've ever seen them in the Asian grocery store. This was almost like a snack, and went so well with white rice itself. They offered a complimentary dessert but it was very plain. It was straight up herbal/grass jelly with a sweet syrup. Service was standard for an Asian restaurant. The restaurant is pretty big compared to what you might see on the outside. The restaurant was acceptably clean. We sat by the window, and although it was covered, the sun was basically still shining on us, so it was really warm sitting there. Overall, I would highly recommend if you're looking for authentic Chinese food.

Ordered the broccoli and beef, salt and pepper chicken, and tomato beef chow mein with the thicker noodles. Every dish was fresh made and tasty. Adj: dependably and predictably ok Chinese food…read more We've been coming here for Chinese meals both sit down and take out from when they used to be Holiday Villa. That was decades ago. About 10 or so years ago, they changed ownership or rather they went through what seems like several changes and then they became Lucky Jade which is kind of a chain but not exactly. I recall at one time, the workers wear shirts that look kind of like uniforms with another store's name on the back with address and phone numbers, so apparently Lucky Jade is owned by people who also own a few other Chinese restaurants but not by the same exact name. In any case, Chinese food can be pretty formulaic, so it's not really that hard to have consistency as long as the cooks know how to make common standard dishes, the taste generally would not be too different. This is true for Lucky Jade. We had take out recently and got a chow fun, a chow mein, and a broccoli beef. The first was quite tasty, on the oily side but I've not found any place able to make it not too oily and still yummy so it's necessary for this dish. Then there's the chow mein, this one was not good. Kind of non descript and the oil tasted oil (reused). Not too greasy which is my biggest complaint of chow mein from elsewhere like New Lai Wah, but again, this did not taste fresh. Finally, the broccoli beef was overcooked. Broccoli was not quite mushy but almost, still a little bit of crunch but you can see they were turning yellow. And the beef was so chemically tenderized (hopefully only with baking soda and not worse) bc it was also almost mushy. Wasn't cheap either, but on par with other Chinese restaurants around here for take out. I think I'll just tell my in laws they can just order from Bel Air Hot Chinese food deli on Florin Rd which is in the same plaza and they'd pay less and the food would actually taste better with fresher oil (probably not reused) and better quality beef that doesn't need to be tenderized to a questionable quality. Overall, not too good.

It was lunchtime prime time and I was instantly seated and carts came right over to me, which is so amazing. I love that this place still has carts! When the one item I wanted, wasn't on a cart they specially ordered it for me and brought it out pretty quickly. The decor is still bare bones no real ambience whatsoever. But that's OK because they have carts and that makes it all worthwhile. Now for the sad news.... The Dim Sum is just not that good anymore. I always really enjoyed having the black bean spareribs and these ribs and have a couple black beans in them are just devoid a flavor. There's a little bit of jalapeño flavor, but I would never order these again. The pan fried shrimp and chive dumplings were very stale tasting. The inside was perfect consistency and ratios, but the outside noodle was dried and chewy and just not good. I also got the steam steamed then pan fried pork and vegetable buns, which are normally to die for good here, but oh-my, they were just awful it taste like eating cardboard. The inside was OK but outside was so bad and so stale tasting that I just was left with a bad taste in my mouth. Don't think I'll be returning anytime soon, which is really sad.
