First time trying this place and everything was so delicious. 1/2 sweet iced latte with one pump Mac nut and one pump vanilla bean. We also had their 100% Kona coffee, and a double scoop of their delicious Mac salad. The coffee was smooth and the Mac salad was so flavorful. This is truly a taste of Maui. From the friendliness, the decor, to the taste of all the food, everything had the essence of cozy. When we first came into the coffee shop, the owner welcomed us warmly. There were quite a few regulars gathered in line or seated nearby. For food, we had our eyes set on the loco moco, the spam musubi, and the li hing fruit cup. For the drinks, I had my eyes set on the 100% Hawaiian coffee. When ordering the loco moco, the owners and the menu both said that they hope we're hungry! When we got the order, the owner said that he wanted to see our faces when we opened the box. As pictured, it's a massive portion. Two hand formed beef patties, two runny poached eggs, tons of rice, and a ton of gravy on top; as it should be. Red Dirt Coffee House always intrigued me whenever I was around the area. It was decorated nicely and bigger space than I thought! I've been to Maui and Oahu and so it was very mostalgic to see the inside and how well they decorated it. I got the Hawaiian Plate with Shoyu Chicken and mac salad and rice, one spam misubi, and my partner got the spam breakfast burrito. The hawaiian plate was good - I thoroughly enjoyed the mac salad, while the shoyu chicken was okay - I felt it needed more sauce as flavor. We both enjoyed the spam misubi! My partner liked his burrito as well. As for the drink, I got the Poi Blended which was really good! It was recommended by the cashier and it is similar to taro but milder and a little less sweeter which I really liked. Definitely will be back to try their other drinks and food! read more

Stopped here on a road trip up to Big Sur and this place popped up as highly recommended. The vibe is super cool, definitely a spot where locals come hang out and it was lovely to see. The menu is super extensive, options for almost everyone. Got a bagel with cream cheese and veggies and a latte. The bagel itself was good but wow PRICEY, everything is an add on so you end up paying quite a lot for a simple bagel. The coffee was simply OK nothing memorable. First visit here. When I'm in town I like to try the independent coffee shops, and this one looked interesting. It was an interesting atmosphere. For example, they have a large variety of spam for sale. Here's what I tried: Island Turkey Panini 3.8/5: decent sandwich but the pesto didn't come through enough. Hot large oat milk latte with one pump of Macadamia and an add shot 4/5: the espresso is great, very smooth, but the oat milk comes in too strong with a very nutty flavor. Pumpkin spice latte: I could taste that it had real pumpkin puree as advertised. I chose to have it less sweet but even then I couldn't taste much of the coffee. In short it was a bit unforgettable. Breakfast burrito: I'm a big fan of breakfast burritos, especially for lunchtime - which was when I came in. I thought it was interesting that mango salsa was an option so that's what I went with. It does come inside the burrito so if you're someone who prefers having salsa on the side, you may need to ask if that's an option. Unfortunately, this also was more forgettable - the eggs were fluffy but the cheese was barely noticeable. I did like that there were different tortilla options. I chose the spinach which was nice and soft. What really sets this place apart is the ambiance. In the short amount of time that I was there, a few regulars came in. They received warm welcomes and exchange pleasant conversation with the staff. Really confirms the service and vibe of the place. read more

Love this place! The only bummer is that I didn't know about it sooner. I had a Hapuna sandwich and added tomatoes; it was delicious! I'm also addictive to the haupia latte--so sweet and flavorful. We were visiting from out of town and came across red dirt coffee house. I was looking for some thing delicious and local so this was the perfect spot. As soon as you walk in, you can feel a relaxing vibe. I was surprised to see that they had a full menu and served many authentic Hawaiian dishes. Service was super friendly and fast. Yes I'd prefer dark meat, but even so the cuts weren't in small enough pieces to notice the seasoning and sauce. It was bland. My most favorite coffeeshop in the area! Can't believe it's been so long since my last coffeeshop review, so lets get right to it! This place is super unique with such a great vibe (Aloha spirit! Need I say more lol). They have decent amount of seating inside, and a few tables outside. However, Red Dirt is more like a cafe instead of coffeeshop, so don't expect comfortable seating where you can spend hours here studying. Regardless, they still earn 1 star for atmosphere from me and another star for customer service. Not only their coffee selections are great, they also have an extensive food menu if you're in the mood for actual breakfast or lunch meal. My favorite thing to grab from here almost every time is their musubi. They make them in batches, so you're guaranteed a fresh warm one anytime (or even hot if they just made them). Since they don't do latte art and have such a great selection of cold/blended drink, I always opt for the espresso latte frappe. It's perfectly creamy but not too sweet, with strong coffee flavor. 2 stars Since you can place the order online ahead of time, and they're located right off of the highway, it's a no brainer for me to keep coming back here. I was thrilled to see Kauai Pork on the menu. What I got was regular pulled pork (fatty) with absolutely no spices except for salt. Two-day old scoops of white rice and macaroni salad for $20. After trying it, it all went into the garbage. This was NOT Kauai Pork. I think this place is best for bagels and some fancy coffee/sugar mixes and drinks. Ambiance was similar to the tourist places in Hawaii. I had my meal in 4 minutes...talk about fast (dried out) food! I would go back for Breakfast only. Don't ask for anything toasted. Kalua pig plate lunch - our party ordered three of these, and the amount of pork varied wildly between the three containers. While the pork was pretty good, the rice was super mushy and the mac salad lacked seasoning. Smoothies - really fun flavors! Just be aware the texture and taste is more like juice blended with ice rather than whole fruit. Bfreakfast burrito w Hawaiian sausage - I loved this with the mango salsa. I got the Kukui latte but they were out of the macadamia syrup. I could taste the banana but it would have been nice to have tasted it with all the ingredients. The clerk was super friendly and made us feel welcomed. There were a lot of locals coming and having both inside and outside (plenty of seating). My only negative comment is it's located in a shopping area which I don't really care for. I would have preferred a stand-alone place or not in a shopping strip place. Red Dirt is a unique and fun spot. I've been here a few times and always noticed that the staff genuinely seem to enjoy each other and their jobs. Sometimes it feels like the joking around and socializing may slow down the preparation of my order, but as long as you are patient... wouldn't you rather have people that enjoy their jobs smiling at you for an extra minute than frowning and rushing? So in the spirit of mahalo, enjoy having a look around and chill out. It's worth the wait. Who knew there were SO many flavors of SPAM? The collection on display blew me away... right down to the Pumpkin Spiced SPAM (blech). I recommend the Loco Moco. Rice, hamburger, and a poached egg, with gravy and yolk sauce. I always get the gravy and yolk sauces on the side when ordering to-go, because any leak from the box can get messy in transit. The side of gravy is rightfully twice as big as the side of yolk sauce. The Loco Moco is generously large enough to split. Finally, they smartly have a basket of SPAM musubi right by the register. I don't think I've ever made it out of there without grabbing a couple to go. They are a perfect portable snack! It's a unique stand out in a town with a million coffee shops.
