I'm not usually a fan of duck, but this was the first time I've ever truly enjoyed it perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The duck spring rolls were a 10/10. We also had the braised short rib and the West Coast Bouillabaisse, both incredible. The seafood stew, in particular, was next level the mini crostini dipped into the broth was pure magic. Red Door Bistro continues to be my favorite restaurant in Whistler. The food is outrageously good, with the most interesting, complex, and new flavors. The chefs truly are masters at their craft, and it shows with their variety of options, as well as absolutely beautiful plating. Each dish is a work of art. Last night I ordered the Cambozola and mushrooms, Hokkaido scallops, BC salmon, and a chocolate ganache cake for dessert. Yum!! The service is wonderful and the servers are the kindest, most fun people with great stories, humor, and helpful recommendations. Plus, they went out of their way to help my mom, who has some dietary restrictions. The ambience inside is really neat because the restaurant is small but has an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs prepare food. We have had reservations in place since June, we were told this was worth all the hype it receives. This definitely was worth it! The restaurant itself was romantic and serene. I loved that there was a true red door to enter the restaurant. We were greeted quickly and sat down within seconds of entering the door. The entire staff was welcoming as soon as we stepped foot in the restaurant. We sat outside which was perfect since the weather was gorgeous out. Our server, I wish I remembered her name, greeted us quickly and our waters were never empty during the entire dinner service. We ordered the scallops to start, they melted in our mouths. I could've eaten 5 plates of these. I ordered the Braised Short Ribs and my husband ordered the Sakura Pork. The dishes were phenomenal! Every review of Red Door said this hole in the wall was the best kept secret for food in Whistler. They're always fully booked, and my wife and I were happy to be able to grab a reservation for 2 on a Monday night. Service was impeccable throughout our visit. My rating does not reflect the quality of service we received. Water was always full, servers constantly checked in. If I had just the smallest thing to nitpick, it would be that our server didn't recommend any particular dishes - only saying that everything on the menu is great. We ordered the following dishes: Country Game Terrine, Red Deer Venison, and Five Spice Duck. Everything was just okay. 2.5 star experience. The venison was my favorite but it didn't wow me, just cooked well with a decent portion size. The five spice duck would have been much better with a sauce to bring the ingredients together, overall the dish was just a lot of sweet, with the duck breast on the tougher side. Unfortunately we won't be back. I think this restaurant has been resting on its laurels for too long. For the price there are better options in Whistler. read more

They see probably less than 50 people in the restaurant. Staff was very friendly and helpful in recommending different options to select. They had a limited time offer to get a three course meal for a very affordable price. The plating was beautiful, the flavors pushed my palate and worked together all at the same time and the selection in the menu was brief but provided the right diversity. The pricing was about average for this area, although this entire area is going to be pricier than your normal place at home. It had an element of fine dining and wine bar as they have an extensive wine menu. While the wine is good, I wouldn't recommend getting anything outside of that from the bar as the cocktails were not great here. If you come here, expect to get a wine and a great dish. The service was friendly and they approached us a good amount of times. But with appetizers and entrees only our dining experience took over 2 hours, which felt too long for a dining experience where you are t doing multiple courses. An absolute gem of a restaurant - we're so happy we booked a table here for our last night in Whistler! First off, the food was all amazing. The appetizers were perfectly balanced and very unique. We had the calamari and the cambozola & mushrooms, which were both delicious. For mains we had the short rib and bouillabaisse. The short rib was fall-apart tender and the seafood in the bouillabaisse was cooked perfectly. The key lime parfait was a perfect end to the meal. Only minor downside is that my virgin mojito was a bit weak (definitely could've been muddled more), but they have an expensive wine menu that more than makes up for it. The restaurant is small and cosy. In the summers most diners prefer to sit on the patio to enjoy the breeze but they also have indoor seating for the winter. A reservation is recommended due to the size of the restaurant. The staff are friendly and very helpful with menu recommendations. Cute and cozy little restaurant with excellent food and service. Our server Sean was very nice and pleasant, and he's very knowledgeable about the menu and gave good advice for ordering. The three of us ordered family style: A Basket of Bread, Duck Confit Egg Rolls (Sean suggested we order three because each order came with two), Nova Scotia Scallops, West Cost Bouillabaisse, New York Steak, and Vanilla Bean Cream Brûlées. Food was excellent, from the main ingredients to the fine details: the broth in the West Coast Bouillabaisse was boiled and reduced for days and was really tasty; the spring rolls had a lot of duck meat in a really crispy and flaky thin pastry; the Nova Scotia scallops came with a celery root purée with little lemon dumplings, pistachios, and pink lady apples; and even the roasted potatoes that came with the New York steak were really good. The Vanilla Bean Cream Brûlée at the end was a nice touch to complete the very satisfying meal. Prices were not cheap (and they did charge for bread) but reasonable. We came here on a Sunday and had a reservation for our party of 9. There were not that many other parties there and we were sat at the large table in the middle, so close to the kitchen, we were talking with the chef during the meal! The menu had lots of great options, something for everyone. the interior is dark and has that classy feel. I had some of the carpaccio appetizer and it was fabulous. The meat was so thin and salt a nice touch. The duck rolls were amazing though! So unique and well displayed. The mushrooms in this dish completed it. For my entree, I had the steak. It's going to be difficult for me to find all the right words to convey how outstanding this experience was. First, I emailed the restaurant to ask about a reservation for our 20th wedding anniversary. They had no problem accommodating us. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted warmly and taken outside to the patio where glasses of complimentary prosecco were waiting for us and we were congratulated on our anniversary. (An aside - when we walked into the restaurant the inside was nearly empty - I assume because it was very hot outside and they probably do not have air conditioning. They had a red awning up over the patio area, which made for a nice outdoor area. After the sun went down enough, the awning was opened up and it allowed even more of a cooling breeze). I will admit I was concerned when they first walked us out because they sat us at one end of a long table, where a group of four was seated at the other end. My initial thought was, "we're here for our anniversary and we are going to be at a "family seating" table?" But not to worry, it was a great spot. We were far enough away from others that it felt private, but also close enough that we could spy what others were eating! Every single person we interacted with at the restaurant was amazing - kind, welcoming, professional. Our server was a total pro. He had been in the profession for decades and it was clear he knew what he was doing! For the rest of the ambiance, there was music playing at a medium volume, perfect to hear it, but no struggle to make conversation over the music. And the selection was such that my wife almost wondered if I had given them a playlist to play for her! Now, on to the most important aspect - the food. Let me first say that I spent hours trying to decide where to make a reservation for our anniversary. I scoured the reviews here, read travel/food blogs and reviews, looked through menus, etc. before landing on this place. I was really hoping all of that work would pay off, and boy did it ever! We had trouble to start with on selecting appetizers we might want. Our server helped us out with some questions. We settled on the Nova Scotia Scallops as one, and after some additional descriptions from the waiter also chose the Calamari. They were both amazing. The scallops themselves were creamy and the rest of the plate complimented them so well. The calamari was not breaded and fried, but pan seared instead and they were the best calamari I've ever had. My wife decided on the Braised Short Ribs for her main after our server's recommendation and I went with the Sakura Pork (prosciutto wrapped tenderloin). The pork came with a mustard sauce (the server gave us a full rundown of the process the chef goes through for the dish and it's crazy how much goes into it) that was unbelievably great. That entire dish was one of the very best dishes I have ever had anywhere. The only downside was that it was such a standout that my wife's excellent main paled a bit in comparison! The Sakura Pork is the highest recommendation I can give to anyone. For dessert we got the summer trifle and peanut butter bombe. Both were excellent. And I mean really excellent. Overall this dinner experience was one of, if not the, best meals I've ever had. The atmosphere, the service, and the food, oh my the food, was all outstanding. We've stopped by several times with no luck getting in as you need to book weeks ahead, but this time we showed up just before 5 pm and were able to not only get in but also got a table! So excited to finally dine here as it is almost always full and we counted, it seats 50! No wonder! Anyways it's just before Christmas, it's minus 5 and we're happy being in this cozy dark little restaurant with exposed kitchen and chefs right in front of us at the bar to watch as we dine. We decided to start with mussels in a white wine and garlic broth from Salt Spring Island and it was wonderful, the broth was good and not overwhelmed with garlic. It comes with two thin sliced toasted bread and olive tapenade. The mussels were absolutely huge and delicious! I chose the special of the day which was a pork loin chop with fingerling potatoes and arugula, pear flambé wine reduction, which complimented the pork very well. I couldn't finish my generous portion of pork but my hubby did! It's about 7 oz but looks like it's two inches thick! The pork is brined overnight to keep it nice and moist and was perfectly cooked. Hubby chose the Braised Chuck Flats with veggies and fingerling potatoes. It was so tender you could slice through it with your fork! Absolutely must have this dish if you're a big meat eater. The portion is generous, even if you like meat! We skipped dessert just because we'd been eating a lot lately, but there's always next time! The staff is also very helpful and friendly without going overboard and are genuine. No pressure if you're not going to order a cocktail or other alcoholic bevvie which is nice, especially if you're allergic to alcohol or abstaining from it, so thank you to the staff for not giving us the 'eye' or getting deflated about not getting that extra little more $ out of your customers, greatly appreciated! read more

Located just steps from Nita lake lodge nestled in creekside it's the perfect place for an intimate dinner, though a bit of a pain to get to from the village. The food was amazing, we did a full dinner and the halibut with crab cake entree is so good. Biggest downside is that it is a very small place and you will be very close to your neighbors table and/or at the chefs counter. When I was taken to this place, I was told it was the best place in Whistler. I think that is a fair and accurate statement. There is no bar, or waiting area. There is a pub next-door. The decor of this place is really quaint, small with an open kitchen. It is very intimate dining experience. I really enjoyed this wonderful dining experience, and the prices are reasonable. The one reason I didn't give it a full five stars, was that it's impossible to get into. And I get it, I understand that a food place is hard to get into. Hands down one of the best meals I've had in recent memory. I had an idea of what I wanted to order but am always open to "specials" and/or what's been popular historically. Red Door did not disappoint. I had the special/featured soup and salad for the day. The soup was a creamy parsnip, cauliflower, and red onion soup. Superb. The salad was a summer special and had butter lettuce, chickory, prosciutto, cantoloupe, and a fancy house made ranch. My main was their signature bouillabaisse and for dessert I had the peanut bombe with an americano. Such a fantastic experience with incredible service. Probably my new favorite nice dinner spot in Whistler. Sorry Araxi. It's a small spot so definitely make reservations, yes the old style way, by calling. Their reservation book is a physical book with a pencil. If you can, sit at the bar; those chefs are amazing to watch - their timing and precision in cooking and plating was just really neat to watch. The short rib BRAISED CHUCK FLATS were good - it was a little too saucy and dark flavored for me, but the PORK CHOP was incredible. I know not a lot of people ordered it but I really don't know why because it was cooked perfectly and the sauce on top was incredible. I dream of that pork chop still. The BUFFALO was also really good and tender; a little gamey but good. Yes most people are ordering the CASSOULET or the BOUILLABAISSE so why not try those and heck, come back and try other things the next day! The DUCK CONFIT SPRING ROLL appetizer is really good - totally stuffed with meat and amazing flavor and tenderness of the meat. It is fried so it is a little heavy. The desserts are kind of ok. CREME BRULEE was good. A lot of people like the PEANUT BUTTER BOMBE, but it was too rich for me, but that might be because I'm not a huge peanut butter fan. I would go back and eat that pork chop every night if I could... It's down in Creekside next to Nita Lake Lodge (1 or 2 buildings down). Bathroom is down the hall because I think it's shared with the bar next door. Albeit the fact that I was dining with my parents who are huge fans of the place, I could see why they kept insisting that we had dinner there! In an open kitchen concept, you get to sit at the bar to watch the chefs go at it if you're willing to wait. If not, you have to make reservations in advance. The staff are extremely friendly and professional, adding to the dining experience at the Bistro. The food is excellent, simply put. French and Canadian food combined into something hearty yet refined. Portions are not small, but are just right. We ordered a bunch of things off the menu, but the Duck Spring Rolls and the cod stood out the most to me!
