Set up in an actual house in a Renton neighborhood, each room in the Red House feels intimate and inviting, even when the house is packed on a busy night. The waiters and waitresses are unfailingly nice, and the food and drink on offer are excellent. While I was slightly disappointed to learn that the "basket of Brussels" I'd seen in pictures was a seasonal dish and not available when I was there, the grilled pork chop with mashed potatoes and salad I had more than made up for it - flavorful and filling. We stopped by the Red House on a whim because we were in the neighborhood. I'm already looking forward to trying it again - hopefully next time when the Brussels are in season! read more

When I lived in a Renton, I always meant to come here for wine or dinner. When we were in the area again, we came here for dinner. The restaurant is very cute and is aptly named. The restaurant is located on an weird corner in downtown Renton, but parking is fairly easily. It is located on a one-way street, so you can park on the street or you can park in the free lot that is in between the two one-way streets. We ate upstairs on a set of couches. It very much looks like a little house. It is very cute and a great place for a date night, girls night out or night out with family. There is a bar upstairs and downstairs. It took a little bit to get our drinks, but it was pretty busy for a Friday night. Food came out I thought a bit quicker. I had a non-alcoholic mule to drink and the brie and berry grilled cheese with a side salad. My husband had a beer and the build your own mac and cheese and added pork belly. We went for a date night on a Friday. Dishonest to have rib eye sandwich on the menu for $30 and then say the meat is not rib eye but some cheaper sirloin I can buy at safeway and easily make at home. So obviously they substituted it with cheaper sirloin but the price is the same!? Well, then either the price should be changed or the menu updated. Out of tacos too on a busy friday night which again, we were there at 5pm so it's not like they sold out on that day since the place only opens at 4pm. Oh and also out of our choice of beers. And I literally had to kinda beg for extra napkins as theirs is the cheapest type and I think McDonalds has better napkins. No problem with trying to save on costs but get some better quality naptkins from Costco which I think is not too unreasonable when your prices are higher and you don't have to ask for napkins when eating a burger and your hands are greasy with french fries. I get it that times are tough but honesty matters and I would not return because there were out of the best dishes (oh the taco just happens to the cheapest appetizer at $16 lol), it seems and they are using cheaper ingredients to save costs, it seems, even napkins. And I did not think the bar guy kinda asian looking was nice at all or friendly when all I was asking was for napkins and he gave me this look like "go sit down". And would not even greet us and gave us dirty looks as we left. Weird. For a $150 date night dinner for 2, definitely do not recommend this place. read more

A converted restaurant, we sat in what was likely once a living room and had the entire room to ourselves. Server was friendly and very attentive. This is the what we ordered: Appetizer: Roasted Poblano Queso & Garlic Oil Crostini. What a delicious dip to spread on toast. Highly recommended! Appetizer: happy hour nachos! We came during happy hour and for a few bucks this was a great deal! Homemade chips really thin with yummy toppings. Main dish: mussels and rice. Juicy and well seasoned, if you like mussels you will love this dish. Main Dish: Mediterranean Salad. Great dressing and loaded with cucumbers, tomatoes, and olives. Dressing was unique and a great flavor. Main Dish: pulled pork sandwich. Had great flavor with pickled onions. Sauce was good too. Main Dish: Mac N Cheese. You get to choose what goes with it with options from mushrooms to crab to brisket. I chose the brisket and it had a nice BBQ flavor. Initially, it was a little difficult finding this restaurant because it's tucked in behind some trees, if you're visiting for the first time it's next-door to the VFW. If you don't purposely look to the VFW you could miss the restaurant, because it's tucked behind several beautiful trees. There is a lot of free public parking directly across the street from the restaurant, that is approximately a 50 feet walk from the restaurant. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the bar has a very extensive drink menu. The restaurant offers a great weekday happy hour and food menu. I ordered the pork belly and kimchi tacos off the regular food menu, and the Chicago Dog off of the happy hour menu, Both entrées were very good. To say, I love this place is an understatement! Was home for 3 weeks and went 3x. Lost the photo of the salmon but I'd die for some more seasonal vegetables w/that Chardonnay cream. It was lovely. The beet salad is definitely solid offering. Fresh earthy goodness. My dining companion gobbled up the lasagna which paired well w/a Scotch. The flatbread w/the balsamic is a tasty healthy treat. When a lighter offering is called for. My dining companions indulged in adult beverages while I was the designated driver. The adult spirits do not disappoint - the staff are all trained bartenders. I ordered the pork shank, it was delicious. My girl had the Mac and cheese and she did not enjoyed it. She said the cheese was exactly like Velveeta cheese, she was very disappointed. The appetizer had good flavor but the shrimp were over cooked, the shrimp were hard and chewy. My girl ordered a dirty martini with vodka and asked for Tito's, I ordered a margarita. The drink menu was simple and not confusing, however (unless we missed it) nowhere did it say they make the drinks with their own twist. The martini was not a martini, they brought us their version of a martini. It was not good. We did ask about it and were informed this is how they make their martinis, ok. From the moment we sat down the server did not seem happy to be there. She wasn't friendly, we would see through her fake smiles.. she sat us down, didn't offer water nor did she offer information about the menu or let us know where the menu was. I poured ourselves some water and when she walked by I asked for a menu. She unkindly said "you scan the QR code... and kept on walking. Thanks for making us feel dumb.. first time here and we just didn't see the QR code. Her attitude never improved. We had been excited to come here, had been looking forward to it. We booked on Wednesday for a Friday night date night and it did not disappoint! They had a table reserved for us inside but one opened up on the patio so we opted for that instead. There are a couple outdoor eating areas but we were seated on the deck. The lower outdoor eating area is wheelchair accessible. My husband did go inside at one point and said it has fun decor/vibe. Our server was very friendly and provided excellent service. She mentioned our food might take a while to come out but it really didn't take long at all. We managed to come during happy hour so my husband had a $3 beer and I had the cherry limeade (non-happy hour). We ended up ordering the mushroom bruschetta, pork and kimchi tacos, and filet mignon + crab cake. We were pleasantly surprised with how fantastic the food turned out! This was plenty of food for the two of us so we did end up taking some home. My favorite was the mushroom bruschetta and the crab cake from the entree. There is a crunchy deep friend coating around a generously portioned crab cake that has a good amount of crab vs. filler inside. It was fluffy and flavorful so I ate a majority of it. The tacos were delicious too with a decent amount of pork (there could have been a bit more kimchi). We ordered the filet as medium and it still came out very tender. We came to the Red House on Friday evening at 8:00PM for cocktails and were seated right away. They have paper menus and QR codes for menus. I ordered the Mezcal Orange Margarita-this Margarita packs quite a punch with smokey orange! This was a great cocktail for anyone who likes spicy and fruity drinks. If you don't like your food, better tell them right away or they'll just tell you to f*** off and pay for it. **make sure to ask what their policy is for food before you order. they don't tell you till it's applicable to them.** I ordered the bar burger and sliced a piece off and the tooth pick was still holding the burger. I saw what looked to be medium rare but was totally raw. The server didn't come around after I had tried it so I waited at the end of the meal to let him know since he never came back to our table. There were still all the fries on the plate, and a 80% burger left on the plate. Most times when I'm at a restaurant, they will usually take off the meal since I didn't eat it and sent it back. Yet the manager said there was policy that nobody was told about. When I was trying to bring up my concern, they told me I was wrong, and a policy that I was not aware of. Even though I had shown him the other 20% of the burger that I had spit out on the napkin, he literally played dumb and said that it could be anything. That is when I knew he wasn't there to serve the customers but to make sure that the $18 burger wasn't going to come out of his paycheck. Lol, what a joke. I've never had this kind of experience at any restaurant. Let alone with a manager who is supposed to be professional and cater to the customers. The manager was disrespectful to the max and he would not let us have a word in. At that point, he was arguing with us and we decided to ignore him and walk out the restaurant after paying the whole bill. Looking back at the other reviews, seems like we're not the first people to have TERRIBLE customer service and a bad interaction with the manager. Seems like he's known as the rude manager that will yell at you till he gets what he wants. Overall dining experience, the food was mediocre and the price did not justify the quality and quantity of food you do get. The food is not good, sauces are really bad. The plating is really odd and not pretty at all. Let alone the service that you come in for at a supposedly really good restaurant. The restaurant itself looks like a makeshift from an old house. Has really odd decorations and old wooden chairs that creak and one of the chairs my friend sat on broke. Time for some new ones! Maybe they can look at inspirations on a real thrifted style restaurant. As for the ambiance and vibe of the restaurant was not welcoming at all. The waiters and manager made us feel like since we do not look like their normal clientele, they will not treat us like their clientele. I also feel as though, since we did not look the part the staff didn't treat us like all the others. We were at dinner there on 10-04-2025. They sat us at a table there the cold air came in through a door. It was so cold that my husband and I had our coats buttoned up like we were outside. I ordered the brisket and it was tough and fatty. Half of the portion was fat. The mashed potatoes were flavorless and the "homemade barbeque sauce" was runny and did not have a lot of flavor. the best parts of the meal were the cocktail that was a raspberry mule and the desert, a brownie in a cast iron pan with ice cream. They sat us quickly (we did have reservations) and always had smiles on their faces. 10/10 for how inviting and accommodating they are. The bad: Service took a while (they were busy it was a Friday night), and the waitress (although very pleasant) never checked back on our food, cleared our drinks from the table, and was absent. Again, she was busy, and I could see her working hard, but she wasn't efficient. The food is where it really fell flat for me. My wife's steak sandwich (comes on a weird white bread) was just not flavorful. Her fries were good, but we hardly ate it. They say it's ribeye, not saying they're lying, but I have cooked a ton of ribeyes in my life, and it seemed like a cheaper cut of meat. My pork shank was OK (3/5), but not a ton of flavor (although the crispy outside was good). My friends salmon was just not good. THe sauce over the top was decent, but the salmon was thin, overcooked (asked for Medium) and dry. If you're going to ask for $35-$45 plates, food needs to step up. read more

I've been coming to Red House for years and I've never had a bad meal. I love the location, staff and vibes! On this most recent visit, I was with 6 people. We shared all of our otems. - the nachos with pork belly, really good for nachos. It was a large portion and the queso coved all of the chips. The pork belly was tender but also crispy on the outside - roasted beet salad. My favorite started. This was sweet glass that was balanced with the goat cheese and arugula - the steak had 3 sections over some mashed potatoes and root vegetables. The presentation made sharing easy. - muscles were in a white wine sauce and really good. The thick sourdough bread was a great addition Dessert was really where it was at! - crumble of the month was mango/ginger. By far the best! SO pleased that we randomly decided to try this place. Super cute atmosphere (although if you're seated inside in the main room it's a bit loud) and friendly/attentive staff! We had the artisan cheese plate to start and loved the 3 different cheeses offered paired with jams, crackers and fruits. It was a big portion for 2 ppl. For our meals we had the brisket burger with fries and the fruit arugula flatbread. The brisket was so delicious and the fries were tasty and crispy. Came here for dinner tonight with a friend and enjoyed a nice meal in their outdoor seating area. It was so cute - tables had red umbrellas and the patio was surrounded with leafy vines that provided ample amount of shade from the sun today. My friend and I ordered the classic Mac and cheese with wild salmon. It was VERY cheesy and I think it had 3 different type of cheeses in it. I'm probably going to regret it for a few days, but it sure was tasty. Portion size was very generous. We probably could've shared one order and it would've been plenty. For dessert we had the apple crisp that was homemade. It was topped with ice cream and was like crack cocaine. The Red House has made some changes and I am here for it! The last time I ate here (over a year ago) I didn't think I would ever come back and then a friend suggested it and I reluctantly obliged. I don't know what changed between those two visits but the food is now amazing! When my friend and I were there we ordered a bunch of appetizers to share and they were all so tasty! I didn't write a review at the time and don't remember everything we ordered. I just remembered telling myself that that I had to come back for a date night with my hubs. Tonight we finally made it and again, The Red House did not disappoint. This time, I ordered the meatloaf with mashed taters and seasonal veggies, and the hubs got the fried chicken sandwich with fries. The meatloaf was yummy and served with a tasty gravy that was also ladled onto the mashed potatoes. The seasonal veggie medley consisted if zucchini, yellow squash, and asparagus. The serving was large enough for me to take half home for another meal! Hubby's chicken sandwich was breaded and fried perfectly and the french fries had a light and tasty seasoning on them. Where do I begin, ordered the charcuterie board with added cheese plate and it was the most sad unappealing yet expensive charcuterie "board" ever and I say board in quotations bc it wasn't on a board it was on a plate with the finest selection of processed meats sisco could send. The Mac and cheese balls were decent but still wasn't worth the money and the service was mediocre at best, the steak was plated up super strangely in like 3 sections? Which I don't get it was cooked correctly thank fully but the seasonal vegetables were lackluster and practically nonexistent. I was able to stop in and enjoy Red House' with my family recently and it was a wonderful experience. The customer service was fantastic and I learned a lot about the establishment from the owner, who is also an amazing painter! You can see some of his pieces in some of the dining rooms within the restaurant, which I absolutely loved. The food was excellent too, the crispy pork shank with rosemary cream and mushroom orzo was a standout for me. This is definitely a wonderful experience that you should check out in Renton.
