I was not expecting much after the many meals we had in Yellowstone mostly cold sandwiches, prepackaged salads, hotdogs and burgers, but this place really surprised me. There was a lot to choose from, we ordered house fried rice and chowmein, seizuan beef, scallion and bison stir fry, salt and pepper shrimp and the plates were presentable and tasty. We asked for chili pepper/sauce and it was the best chili pepper I've had at ANY Chinese food place even in California. It was spicy and flavorful. The owner said it was made in house and I could tell. I would also say their food was better than many of the Californian Chinese Restaurants that I have tried. Service was fast and helpful. Prices are a little pricy and there's an auto gratuity fee 18% for groups of 6 or more. I would definitely return with my family. It was the best meal we had in Yellowstone. read more

Not exactly the best tasting Chinese food but it's still possibly the best Chinese restaurant you'll find nearby the Yellowstone National Park. Sometimes they may forget to give you a few dishes that you ordered but I guess it's because they do tend to be busy. Average wait time is typically 10-15 minutes during the evening. We were craving for Chinese food after having more than 4-5 hamburgers and hotdogs in a row. This place is very authentic and has awesome Chinese food. Both the spicy fish and soy sauce chicken were very good and so was the noodle soup. The service was also very good. My only complaint is the food is way overpriced. The scope of my review includes the service, and the quality of the food and quantity of the servings. I was extremely apprehensive going to this restaurant. Most of the initial reviews were poor. But I continue reading and found that many folks were confused why the restaurant received poor ratings. We were a party of 11 and made a reservation a couple of hours in advance, which I recommend if you have a big party. The service was better than good, attentive and responsive!! The food was really good. We ordered the house chow mein, the hot and sour soup, the asparagus beef, the orange chicken, the garlic eggplant, the lotus beef, and we got a free bowl of steamed rice. Our favorite was the lotus beef! Very tasty and flavorful! The hot and sour soup was good but we added a splash of vinegar to give it more sour flavor. The quantity of food was standard based on other restaurants in the Bay Area. We ordered double orders of fried rice, chow mein, and soup which was just enough for our group. The cost of the meal plus an included 15% tip was just under $200...reasonable!!! The cons...They seated us all at one banquet table typically used for 10 people. A slight inconvenience but it was OK. The orange chicken was the least favorite because it was heavily battered and the sauce did not really have an orange flavor but it was not bad. I read the reviews, yet my Asian food cravings had to be met. We ordered the tofu and veggies, the red lotus beef, and general tso's chicken. They have a chinese menu, and I saw some of the tourists ordering from it, looked better, had some items that I was more familiar with. I think they should just offer the same food but with English translations underneath. The tofu and veggies was the best dish, the red lotus beef was ok, breaded beef in a sweet sauce, the sauce was a bit too sweet, being an americanized chinese restaurant I was hoping that the general tso's was good. But nope, it was way too much breading and the sauce was too salty and sweet. The worst part? The price, it's super expensive. Was one of our most expensive meals of the whole trip. I'm glad I read the reviews because they stated that the tip is automatically added. However, when you are given the bill that is not explained well, and if you use a credit card there is another line for tip. I could see how if you weren't careful you'd end up double tipping. I'm ok with forcing the tip, but be more clear about it. read more

Initially I didn't look at this restaurant because of the three stars but while my husband was in the grocery store I started reading the recent reviews and they were 97% 5 star. I placed a to go order for beef and broccoli and cashew chicken and two egg rolls. The inside was really nice, the staff was dressed very professionally and the manager was so kind when I placed the order and when I picked the order up. A couple people complained about adding 15% gratuity because of all the international visitors they receive. That makes total sense. BUT they don't add a gratuity to "to go" orders. Since I always tip on "to go" orders, I asked and the manager explained they only add to dine-in orders. So I was still able to tip on the receipt. Now the food part-it was delicious! Typically in tourist towns it may be hit or miss with restaurants. We took our order to a picnic area in Yellowstone. Without asking, we were supplied plates, sauces, cutlery, napkins and fortune cookies. I highly recommend this Chinese restaurant. read more

This was our first time staying at west Yellowstone, and when we arrived around dinnertime, I immediately checked yelp for recommendations. Upon seeing that Red Lotus had 2.5 stars, I initially was quite skeptical. But if there's anything I've learned living near Chinatowns of Los Angeles and San Francisco, it's that reviews can be quite misleading. Red Lotus is one of the MOST SEVERELY underrated restaurants here in west Yellowstone (buried by an assortment of 4 star pizza and burger places in town). I found myself pleasantly surprised by Red Lotus' quality of food, hospitality of the staff, and cleanliness of the restaurant. Don't get me wrong, it's not the best food I've ever had, but neither were any of the 4 STAR pizza or burger places that we tried during our stay. The best way I can put it is this: Red Lotus took me back to the hole-in-the-wall chinese restaurants I frequented late at night in college. It wasn't a Michelin-starred meal, but it was a quick and tasty one. If you don't feel like waiting 45+ minutes at some of the other spots here in west yellowstone, Red Lotus had our order ready in 15 minutes and had us coming back the next day for seconds. Highly recommend you give it a try! (I also noticed that many of the 1-2 star reviews were given due to a 15% gratuity automatically added to your total bill. Horrible experience! We are dinner there the food was overpriced and servings were small. We ordered the Salt and Pepper pork, that was over priced at $29.00 and didn't have and didn't taste at all like Salt and Pepper pork 3/10. The Hot Pot was priced correctly and was on a 7/10. The tofu and veggies was a 4/10, tofu was over cooked, and the Beef and Broccoli was really tough taste was ok 5/10. I'm giving them a one star not because of the food, but because of the experience. We had a long day at Yellowstone and saw this place don the way back to the hotel. It was quiet and not that many people which was perfect for social distancing. They did a good job on keeping you safe during this pandemic, they spaced the customers just right. Here is why they get one star, they charge you a 15% gratuity, because of the foreign visitors not tipping. The waiter took our order, dropped food off and we never saw him again. We had to flag him down for water, and for other condiments. When we were done it took 5 mins to get the bill, the staff was sitting behind us eating dinner. I felt uncomfortable interrupting them. I was going to leave a 5% tip for the poor service. I tip well and understand that servers get paid off of tips. If your going to charge 15% for tips off the gate you need to still treat me as if there were no tip yet. read more

We went to this restaurant twice during our Yellowstone trip and the food/service was excellent so I'm not sure why the rating was on the lower end. The salt and pepper pork chops are delicious! The hot and sour soup was also very good. Excellent service. The manager (?) was very attentive and personable. I could see that he truly cared for his customers. This was our second foray into Chinese cuisine in West Yellowstone, in an attempt to satisfy the cravings. First impression is that the restaurant definitely makes a lot of its business off of the Chinese tour buses that stop by, and as a result, is probably very busy around dinnertime on any given day during peak tourist season. It felt a little cramped inside, and the tour bus tables were being constantly turned over and reset. Despite this, our food came out pretty quickly. We ordered four dishes and a soup, which with their compulsory 15% tip came out to over $100. It's a steep price to pay for Chinese food in a big city, but when you're in a small town in Montana... I wasn't expecting much, to be honest, and I was a little surprised because what came to our table wasn't 100% Chinese-American food. They definitely have an extensive menu catered for American tastes, but there were a couple of more Chinese dishes. The flavors were alright, but the portions were small. As usual per Chinese restaurants in small towns, they charge by bowl of white rice. The servers were okay - they were as attentive as you could expect with large groups of people entering and exiting a Chinese restaurant. If you the only thing keeping you from dying is Chinese food, and you don't mind paying almost triple of what you'd pay in a big city, this'll do. Otherwise I'm sure there are better options in town for any other cuisine. read more
