When Fortune Palace closed several years ago I set out to find an Asian restaurant that had food and service (especially delivery) that was as good as theirs. I found that it's just wasn't available in the area. Now that the owner and chef are back in the form of Red Pepper Asian I am a happy man. They have all my favorites and I'm told they will make some traditional dishes if you ask for it. The hot and sour soup is especially tasty. I will definitely be making regular visits. read more

YAY! Finally found our go-to Chinese/Malaysian dinner spot! Their food is spot on and the restaurant itself is great, too. With all my kids in visiting for the Holiday, we ordered up Thai Green Curry Chicken, Red Curry Beef, Sesame Chicken, House Fried Rice, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Crab Rangoon and spring rolls. The spring rolls were the only thing that did not taste freshly made; everything else blew us away! We loved it all and were actually shocked to get the House Fried Rice freshly made and the Sweet and Sour Chicken was amazing and not the usual crap other places put out. New to the area & tried takeout from here. We ordered online. The crab Rangoons were excellent and they actually gave me sweet & sour sauce on the side like I requested. General Chens chicken, rice, & egg roll were all good. Everything seemed really fresh. Good customer service, I had to call and let them know I made a mistake in my online order and they had no problem fixing it. Wow, I have very high thoughts regarding the service and good at Red Pepper. While in the process of moving between houses, I found myself last Thursday scrambling at the very last minute to prepare for Raleigh's first "Ice Storm" of 2016 with very little food in my new home. In the midst of running errands for groceries, batteries, etc I realized many restaurants were closing early and the fast food drive threw lanes were extremely packed. I suddenly "stumbled" into this place amidst my search for dinner plans around 8:45pm. Being a former restaurant manager, I personally hate to be "that guy" who enters a restaurant within the last 20-30 minutes prior to a restaurant closing, and in this specific situation, I assumed the owner was not only attempting to close, but wanted to ensure that she as well as her employees were able to get home before the freezing rain and snow began, however, I was mistaken. She warmly greeted me in, welcomed me to order anything on the menu and was simply extremely kind. The food was prepared within 10 minutes, the serving size was suitable and most importantly it tasted delicious! Now that I have discovered this restaurant there is no doubt that I will be returning very soon! The product and customer service were simply excellent! read more

Great Asian takeout option for east Raleigh. I've gotten the takeout here a few times, and each time it has been great. Love the Thai basil with tofu, and the red curry. Friendly staff, never a problem with order accuracy or timeliness. The restaurant is very nice inside as well, but I haven't dined in to date. read more

This is one of my favorite places to eat and the only place I go for solid Asian food. So many things here are great my go to is chicken lo mein with extra vegetables and make it extra spicy! Their paper chicken is so juicy. My fiancé always orders the cashew chicken. This place is a gem. If only they delivered! I ordered General Chen's all white meat chicken for take out. Considering all of the positive reviews, I had high expectations for this place. When I got home and opened my meal, I had a very hard time finding any chicken amongst all of the hard breading. The sauce was thick and gooey and had very little flavor. The rice was bland and dry. We came here for lunch Saturday for one thing....mee goreng and were left very disappointed. Not a good sign already when we walked in since the restaurant was almost empty, but since we read so many yelp good reviews we thought we would give it a try. We ordered Mee Goreng and Char Kway Teow from the "authentic menu" section. Mee Goreng was sweet and tasted just like an overpriced regular lo mien with shrimp and squid. Char Kway Teow was the worse. All we could see was lots of chilly flakes despite the fact that we requested mild. It served again with shrimp and squid and tasted so bland. Since moving to this side of Raleigh, I haven't found a good chinese restaurant. I love good chinese food, but it can be really hard to find. I decided to try Red Pepper Asian, because it had great reviews. The more diverse menu also attracted me. It's a family tradition to get a big chinese feast on New Years. We ordered shrimp and chicken with steamed mixed vegetables, house lo mein, and sesame chicken dinner combos. We also ordered 2 orders of crab rangoon, 2 extra egg rolls, a small egg drop soup, a small wonton soup, extra fried noodles, and a small order of steamed vegetable. To begin with, placing this order was difficult at best. The lady on the phone kept talking to someone else, which was really confusing. I had to ask her to repeat it a couple of times just to make sure we got it right. We finally got the order placed, and it was ready to be picked up in 15 minutes. Upon picking it up, we asked for a total of 20 duck sauce. Yes that is a lot, but we ordered a lot of food, and we had a couple of duck sauce lovers. The lady told us that since this was our first order she would give them to us, but in the future we would have to pay 50 cents EACH after ten packs. I can understand this rule if someone orders just one or two combos, but we ordered 3 combos and a lot of extras. Considering they buy them in bulk for 5 cents a piece, I think they shouldn't have a problem giving us 20 for 52 dollars worth of food. They also charged us a dollar for a small bag of extra fried noodles, but there were only two small bags when we opened everything. If you are going to charge extra for something, you should make sure you include it. Maybe I should mention that I worked in food service for over 10 years. There is nothing more annoying to a customer than to be nickel and dimed, and then not to get what they paid for on top of it. I could have forgiven this if the food itself was good, but... I'll start by saying that the egg drop is the best I've had since moving to the Raleigh area, but that is where my good experience ended. I ate sesame chicken that came with fried rice. As I was chewing the rice there was something crunchy that felt very much like eggshell. The sesame chicken had a few small pieces of chicken bone, which can actually be quite dangerous if swallowed. Since I could no longer eat that, I decided to try the egg roll and crab rangoon. The egg rolls are small like spring rolls, and scantily filled. The ground beef inside gave it an odd flavor, and it didn't taste fresh. I'm not sure the crab rangoon had crab. They were also very light on filling, and all I could taste was cream cheese. Overall, everything I tried, except for the steamed vegetables, was pretty salty. Chinese food is salty enough already. The shrimp and chicken with steamed vegetables came with fried rice instead of white rice, which I specifically asked for at least twice when I ordered. Everything else was okay, but just okay. Nothing special. Maybe it was an off night. Perhaps this isn't their normal performance, but unfortunately it was bad enough that I won't try it again. read more
