Where can you eat a decent sit down dinner, amid expanses of neatly cut lawns, while watching the sun set on the 1500 foot Navajo sandstone cliffs surrounding you? The Red Rock Grill is on the second floor of the main building of Zion Lodge, above registration and the gift shop, in Zion National Park. We ate 4 breakfasts and 4 dinners here during our 4 day stay in late April. We could have driven 15 minutes away to Springdale amid the dozens of restaurants in that tourist town right next to the Park, but the food here was decent, and the views spectacular. They offer a $15 breakfast buffet, complete with scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, potato strings, and pastries, complete with a beverage, like orange juice or coffee. I usually settled on the 3 pancake entrée for $7, while the wife got the 2 eggs any way with string potatoes and toast/muffin for $9. Orange juice was $3 -no refills. Hey, they got to make money somehow! Reservations are advised for dinner, which starts at 5pm. We were there almost always at 5pm, and never had to wait. Come later, or during peak summer season with the kids out, and you will be waiting, as there is no other place to eat for 5 miles around. Dinner has a $13 soup and salad buffet, or you can add one $7 pass through the soup and salad buffet to go with any dinner entrée. The salad buffet includes the usual salads, vegetables, diced ham and diced turkey, and hard boiled eggs. Yeah, no eggs in the Fresh Choice salad bars back home! The first dinner we both had the soup and salad buffet, as they had a vegetable beef soup as one of the two soups. After I got through the soup was a vegetable soup, as I cherry picked the beef, like anyone else would do -don't you hate such people!? Wife loved the onion soup. Second dinner I had the $15 Navajo taco. This taco was only about 10 " in diameter, smaller than I expected, with a dough crust, covered with tomatoes, peppers, onions, and a few crumbs of hamburger. Very filling, but where's the beef? Third dinner I had the $23 trout, together with 1 pass through the salad bar line. I asked the waitress if I could take two plates of salad, as I was not hot for the vegetarian soups they had. Waitress said that was fine with her. The trout was very good, with almond crusted for crunchiness and added flavor. Great appearance, with all the bones removed, and the trout fillet spread out. Of course the trout didn't have a lot of filling, and would not do for extinguishing the hunger pains after an 8 hour hike to Observation Point. Fourth dinner I had the $21 buffalo hamburger, complete with onions, lettuce, pickle, bacon, avocado, cheese, stacked up like a totem pole. Definitely a knife and fork task, as nobody could fit such a tall burger into their mouth, except my ex-wife who was always putting her foot in her mouth. Buffalo hamburger tasted like a beef hamburger, but without as strong a taste, hence the onions, pickles and bacon. Wife had the $24 pork chops with string beans and mashed potatoes. Overpriced for what you got, but the ambiance of the location and setting with the magnificent views of the red, brown and orange sandstone cliffs was a sight to behold. read more

Breakfast, very good taste and selection but the little slow and restaurant timings is little tight. Being inside the park and we stayed in the Zion lodge. This was very convenient and beautiful location, I am pretty sure it will get super crowded in the peak season time. Will surely go back here. read more

The Red Rock Grill is a good place to eat at Zion National Park, it's located in the Lodge (in fact I already wrote a review of this place and posted it as a review of the Zion Lodge, before realizing that the Red Rock Grill had their own profile on Yelp) It's a sit down, service restaurant with similar pricing to the counter service food downstairs, so, I speculate you get a better selection, healthier varieties, fresher (cooked to order) food and an overall better experience eating upstairs here at the Red Rock Grill. The service is fast, and I'd challenge to say if the counter service had long lines, knowing the food may be pre-made assembly line styled stored in steam trays, heat lamps and warmers, you'd be wise to just go to the Red Rock Grill for an odds on favorite better experience. Some feel this is "upscale" but it's not, it's convenient and catering (service oriented). The pricing is on par with everything else, so it's not that much if any more expensive than other alternatives. You get what you pay for and truth be told, you're held hostage to a degree in locations like a National Park, much like going to an amusement park, sporting event stadium, concert arena, county fair, airport or any place where prices tend to be a bit higher than the avg norm, so it's always anticipated and expected. I don't feel that the Red Rock gouges their prices and have a reasonably priced menu. The service was fast and friendly here. You can sit inside or outside. In the context of how this compares to other tourist venues and also the surrounding peers, I give this * * * * four stars. if you placed this restaurant anywhere in an urban metropolitan area with multiple dining competition, based on food and price it's "A-Okay" and I'd give them * * * three stars. But here, context is a consideration, so where choices are limited, this can be considered a smart choice and wise option to choose. read more

We just smashed the Angels Landing trail, and it's only fitting to have a celebratory pint of beer. Luckily, the shuttle has a stop here so, of you do fancy a pint and a bite to eat this is the place to be. You go upstairs at the lodge to get to this restaurant. You can either choose to sit inside or there's a patio with a wonderful view of the mountains. What's cool about it is that there are deer roaming around the front of the lodge. Feels almost like were in an American safari. The host mentioned something about buying something to eat in order to buy something to drink. We don't care, we like to eat something while drinking something anyways. Polygamy porter for my boo and the Wasatch 1st amendment lager for me. I'm not really a beer connoisseur, so I can't really comment on flavors and junk. But I know they're refreshing and it'll get you drunk. We ordered the Navajo nacho or is it the Navajo taco. Anyways, it was our shareable food for the drinks. It was big enough for the both us to share. It was an interesting dish. The bread, the beans, taco fixings, meat,,, they all work together to bring you an explosion in your mouth. Indefinitely thought I wasn't gonna find anything that I would fancy here in the restaurant. Thank god the chef did come out with this dish. This may not be a 5 star fancy restaurant, but when you are hungry after hiking the entire morning, good service and filling food and drink is all you crave. This place hits it spot on. June visit-My 6th meal here on the awe inspiring view deck, and it keeps getting better. We had an excellent server from Pennsylvania, one who has impeccable timing to check in with us to see if we needed anything, and found time to ask how the food is when my mouth wasn't full so I could tell him my pecan encrusted trout was incredible perfection. The deck is going to be redone in August 2017 because of old flooring so visit soon to enjoy the views, the deer on the lawn at sunset and their pom pom martini. Their Cosmo is delicious too. Our caprese salad was spot on, and my husband enjoyed his prime rib. Their wine list contains many favorites, and where else can you enjoy an excellent meal while viewing towering spires of mighty Zion? Um, nowhere. read more

We ate here 4 times while staying at the Zion NP lodge. It's a large cathedral ceiling room with lots of knotty pine and a beautiful view through huge windows. The service varied from meal to meal. Once excellent/cheerful , once slow/disinterested and once surly. The steak, fish, bacon, eggs were fine. All of the bread products including donuts were weirdly DRY and for the first time in my life, I didn't finish a chocolate donut. The Indian fry bread on the Navajo taco was also inedible. It was very dark brown and too tough to cut with a steak knife and difficult to chew. Everything nonbread, was ok-eggs, bacon, steak, fish, fruit, veggies. Stayed at the Zion Lodge and ate at the Red Rock Grill for dinner. Ordered the sirloin steak and salad. The cut of meat was a nice size enough to be worth the price it was also cooked just the way I wanted it medium. The mash potatoes and fries were excellent. The salad bar was good the tomato soup was very tasty. The only thing I didn't like is that you had to keep going back to the front to order again if you wanted something else. read more

We rented a cabin in the park that included a free breakfast buffet. I arrived ten minutes before it closed, but the male manager and sweet server Gina from Virginia were SO nice and welcoming. They brought me hot chocolate, orange juice and water while I got oatmeal, fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon, fried potatoes with ketchup, a biscuit and gravy. They also had sausage, omelettes, yogurt and dry cereal. They checked on me several times and even offered to keep the buffet open if I wanted more food, but once through was great. Everything was delicious. Five star experience. Then my husband and I came back several hours later for lunch. Totally different experience. We were seated outside on the patio because the weather was perfect. It took our female server awhile to get our order (she told me after I ordered a Navajo taco that they wouldn't serve it until dinner even though it was on the menu; kind of disappointing). So I ordered a turkey and Swiss cheese sandwich with kettle chips and a tiny cup of vegetable soup. My husband ordered cream of tomato soup then got the salad bar that also had tacos. Again, the food was delicious. But our server took off and said another male server would take care of us. But he didn't. My husband had been hiking for hours and I had been walking around in the heat, so we were very thirsty. Not once did the replacement server stop by our table even though he took care of other tables all around us. We tried to get his attention several times but it didn't work. Our first visit to the grill was a dinner on a Thursday night in late January. We had made a reservation for 6 P.M., which was advised by the front desk. We were met by the host and seated promptly. Service went like clock work. We were greeted by Jonathan, and from then on enjoyed terrific service. He checked back frequently and missed nothing. A major feature of Red Rock Grill is the view. Right outside are 100 meter red rock canyon walls, which elevates this restaurant into the stratosphere of view restaurants. It is without doubt world class. Another strong reason to eat here is location. It's above the Zion Lodge lobby. If you are staying at the Lodge, to go to another restaurant means a trip into Springdale over roads under construction. It can take 40 minutes for a round trip to town. If convenience is important because you are tired, then this is your place. We enjoyed the pork chop and the Navajo taco. Both entrees were good, but not exceptional in my opinion. The chop had not been through the brine process and needed salt. Never the less, the chop was moist, flavorful, and had terrific grill marks. It was served with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoliini. The Navajo taco was fine for anyone who's never had one before. It's nothing to rave about though. A Navajo taco is fry bread as a base for a variety of meat and beans, in other words, chili. But it's open-faced like a tostada. There were brown and black beans, and a mild cheddar for cheese. This dish was not exciting. We've had better. A good alternative for seasoning would be a recipe that includes oregano, basil, and cumin. Enjoy! read more

One star. This restaurant's only redeeming qualities are the location and the view. The food is cafeteria level and insanely overpriced for what it is. The breakfast buffet was very sad - the food was dry or not filled at all. Waited for 15 minutes for potatoes. No milk next to the cereal. No creamer offered with my coffee. Someone asked if a pot of coffee sitting at a nearby station was creamer - they received a rude no and was eventually directed to the (empty) milk next to the cereal. The servers and cooks must have been completely overwhelmed - definitely understaffed. The dinner was tasteless and weird. Chicken on salad tasted of tuna (!?) and sides of potatoes and vegetables were gummy and overcooked. Just leave the park and go into Springdale. It isn't worth the time lost to stay. read more

For the only dining option in the park, I'd give this place 5 stars. It's not excellent but keep in mind that we are still living in a pandemic. Stayed up at the lodge couple of days, Ate the Dinner and the Breakfast buffet the whole time we stayed at the lodge and was not disappointed. The Bison meatloaf and the Red trout, 2 great dishes that was delish, The Breakfast Buffet was also filling, service was great and price moderate. I'm stuck way in that valley and too tired driving to Springdale where more crowds and high price restaurants await you. Its not high a scale dining experience it's a typical Nat'l Park lodge affair and the ambiance was great. read more

Excellent! My boyfriend and I ate here a couple times during our stay at the lodge over Memorial Day weekend. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is comfortable and we enjoyed the outdoor space while eating. The breakfast buffet was great! I liked the burger for dinner and we really enjoyed the cocktails made by Sky! Had lunch today after hiking Zion. We enjoyed a delicious outdoor lunch with gorgeous views. I enjoyed the all-you-can eat soup and salad bar for $11.95. Three types of lettuce from which to choose, one pasta salad and two soups. Today's soups were vegetable and tomato basil. I opted for the veggie soup and there was some sort of overwhelming spice that burned my mouth. I didn't try the tomato soup. If you're visiting Zion, it's worth a visit to the beautiful Zion Lodge. If you're hungry, you can come to the Red Rock Grill for a bite. Like everywhere in Zion, this place has quite a view. The large windows allow the spectacular scenery to steal the spotlight away from the food while you dine. I don't think there's a bad seat in the place. The food, on the other hand, is far less spectacular. The food needs significant improvement, and this is especially highlighted as this is the finer dining option in the park. The flavor is lacking, and feels like a re-heated Sysco frozen entree. It probably wouldn't be so bad if this were some dining cart or cafeteria option, but both this is supposed to be the "nicer" dining option. Personally, I would have been better off grabbing lunch in town, or at least the other dining spot in the lodge. read more

Okay.... I'm gonna be honest. I was not expecting to write a yelp review for a national park lodge restaurant, but holy moly, this is one of the best burgers I've had! I got the Zion Cheeseburger. The beef was perfectly (minimally) seasoned, nicely cooked, tasted like quality meat. The salad and toppings were given on the side, so as not to induce sogginess (I appreciated that). When Xanterra puts their minds to it, they can do a decent meal, and Red Rock is a fine example. It's a step up from the cafeteria, and only just-- but yet it's juuuust enough of a step up that the food seems to be worth the extra effort they put into it. Cost isn't cheap, but it's not too horrid either, which is good because you have no other options in the area, it's mid-afternoon, and your only options are licking the empty wrappers of your Kind bars or leaving the park entirely and sacrificing the rest of your daylight to get a snack. The patio has some decent views, although the sun can be annoying. Service was good overall but occasionally laggy, and wifi ($2.95/hour) is fast enough. The manager here apparently has no concept of customer service ! Every year we book reservations for thanksgiving dinner it's been tradition for the past 6 years , it is not easy getting a hold of anyone for a reservation. This year was no different except anyone we talk to assured us someone would get back to us. We called almost Dailey until finally today . The manager told us they were only excepting reservations from people staying at hotel. Which is the biggest bummer because had someone gotten back to us 7 weeks ago when we starting trying we could at least go elsewhere. Now it's too late! There aren't a lot of options when you are staying at the Lodge so you will likely eat here. We came for dinner and found it very empty at 5:30. It was too hot to eat outside, but we were able to sit by the window and enjoy the view. The menu is definitely funky. It leans more toward Mexican style, which isn't for everybody. Server was quick and efficient. We both had a cup of soup which was good. I had the chicken quesadilla which was a bit weird. There were beans and corn and although it tasted ok, afterwards it wasn't so good. My husband ordered the Navajo taco which was huge. It is a huge piece of thick bread and he had ordered the chicken so there was chicken all over the top and then tons of lettuce, diced tomatoes and cheese. Very different and just ok for him. Prices weren't awful considering the location. Well the hamburger at $16 was, but everything else was expected. Overall, average food, but convenient when staying at the Lodge. read more

My experience with this restaurant is limited, as the only meal we ate there was the Christmas dinner buffet. I can't speak to the normal menu, but the Christmas buffet was really tasty. Everything was very traditional, and nothing there could be considered any type of gourmet dish, but it was a Christmas dinner pretty much like my Grandma would have made it: prime rib, ham, mashed taters, green bean casserole...you get the idea. After a day full of hiking, I was so hungry and ate so much that I nearly made myself sick. That's always the sign of a solid meal! The service was the real star of the night. Even though the meal was buffet, our server was still incredibly attentive and friendly. The restaurant was packed full, and from what I could see, the dining room was well staffed, and every table was receiving quick service. Well done. My main disappointment with the evening was the restaurant itself. This is the nicest that the park has to offer, and it is a bit more casual than one might hope. If you are expecting a dining experience on par with some of the other great National Park lodges, this is not it. It really is just a "grill," not a fine-dining experience by any stretch. read more

Great place to take a breather in the park. Sit out in upstairs patio and soak in the sights with you eat your food. Food wise, provided that there werent many options to begin with, it was good enough. My date got a bison burger, which was extremely filling, huge serving, but was a little dry, the flavors were great though. I got the pork chop with some apple wood sauce which I do not recommend actually. It was overwhelmingly sweet which taste weird with the garlic mash potatoes and the savory pork. All in all, provided that the grill is in the middle of the park where there many choices of restaurants to go to, the food was good enough to fill our bellies if not enjoy a view of the park. read more

We had two breakfast and two dinner vouchers here as we were on an organized tour, and we stayed at the Zion Lodge. At breakfast, we had a choice of the breakfast buffet or ordering off the menu. By this point we were tired of buffets so it was a nice change to order ala carte. My three egg western omelette was very satisfying. Good service at both breakfast and dinner. Dinner entrees - try the bison meatloaf. Moist and tasty. The crusted trout was nice too. Dessert - the server suggested either the brownie or the lemon cake which was lighter. So I went with that. Nice way to finish my meal. Red Rock Grill is the only place where you can have a sit down meal within Zion. They've got a straw free zone at Zion. The food alone at the Red Rock Grill is probably 3-star worthy, but the view from the outdoor deck is fantastic and raised my overall review to 4-stars. Breakfast: The grill offers both a regular breakfast menu as well as a breakfast buffet. The buffet includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, fruit, home fries, biscuits, bacon, sausage, yogurt, and cereal. You can possibly skip lunch if you bulk up on breakfast. Lunch: If you're out and about hiking and exploring the park, you won't be able to eat at the grill, but you can order a box lunch, pick it up in the morning, and take it on the trial with you. You'll get a sandwich, apple, chips, and cookies. Dinner: Dinner on the outside deck when the weather is nice can't be beat. The menu is far from cheap (mains are $15-30), but the food is pretty good and you can even get prickly pear cocktails. I had a pork chop with mashed potatoes and fresh asparagus. Slightly worse than average hotel restaurant, but not all bad. The views and location are pretty much impossible to beat. I've eaten here a few times--always while staying at the Zion Lodge. The breakfast is included and, which it's not amazing, provides a nice, hot meal to hold you over through hikes until lunch. Seriously, getting some warm, meaty food in your stomach before a hike is not to be overstated in importance. That being said, it's not great. The bacon is too crispy, the pre-made cheese omelettes taste like they were made with kraft singles, and the fruit seems to have nearly all come from a can. I generally focus on getting some bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and either French toast or pancakes which combine to make a pretty filling breakfast. They also have yogurt and granola if you want to do a healthier, more European-style breakfast. For other meals, the food is disappointing and the prices don't do them any favors. The only positive things I can say are that the beer list includes local, yummy beer on tap like Polygamy Porter and that during the "lounge menu" times (until 2:30-5p) they will let you bring outside food in as long as you order something else. I had my best meal in the park by brining in Thai from Springdale while also ordering the brownie desert and a Polygamy Porter. read more

We spent two nights staying at the Lodge in Zion National Park, and the Red Rock Grill was located in the main lodge so it was very convenient. Breakfast buffet was a good value, food was good and we filled up before a day of hiking and horseback riding. Much better deal to eat here rather than the cafeteria style in the lobby. The prickly pear syrup was very good, and the coffee was fine. Dinner was very good, not too expensive and the children were able to share an adult meal. We were happy to have a reservation as it did fill up and they don't have many tables that can accommodate 5 people. I particularly liked the mashed potatoes! Our server was friendly, helpful, and attentive. If staying and the lodge, which I highly recommend, I would eat here daily for breakfast and at least once for dinner. read more

We ate lunch here. Fantastic decision. They have a taco bar and soup and salad bar that are a fantastic deal for a sit down meal with such incredible views. Food tasted good and seemed relatively fresh. The rice in the taco bar has meat stock in it, but the bean mix was a pleasant treat and totally meatless. The soup was vegan too. I loved being able to get very full. For two adults and two kids for lunch, with tip, our bill was about $50. We might have saved a few bucks by leaving the park, but the comfortable table and peaceful respite within the park were worth it. read more

If you're hungry in the middle of the day after a morning of hiking/activities and don't want to spend the time going back out to Springdale, this is the place to eat. The decor of this restaurant was nice and tried to feel a bit upscale. The food however was not. We had a salmon burger and bison burger and they were just okay. Not the worst but nothing to write home about, especially with their inflated park prices. Both tasted a bit bland and the salmon burger wasn't a whole piece of salmon but it was a salmon cake, kind of like a crab cake. read more

So far there are more open tables than full ones and we waited 20 minutes to sit down, and another 15 before someone came to take any sort of order, drinks or food. They "ran out of menus" so our table of four was required to use only two, which wasn't much of an issue, but I wondered what happens when the place is actually busy - no menus? Obviously they're aware that they're the only restaurant in 30 mins and the only in Zions National Park, otherwise their prices and service would put them out of business by the end of the month. Oh, and there's not enough water pressure to wash your hands in the bathroom, which is always great... Their WiFi is terrible, so it's really hard to even make this post. Located in the main lodge in Zion, the Red Rock Grill has little competition within the park for a good meal. Although a bit stuffy, the Red Rock Grill does have very good food and excellent service. The Bison meatloaf is really good, the Alfredo not so much. On the wine side, I would order off the wine list - don't go for the house wine. On a nice warm day, you can enjoy incredibly views on the 2nd floor deck - I highly recommend trying that. After dinner, enjoy a nice walk over to lower emerald pool and the waterfall there. read more

If you're staying at the lodge (on any park lodge), expect average food at best. Breakfast was average, the burger was average, and both were pricey. On the plus side, the appetizers and draft beer was good each night. If you want some good food, go into Springdale. read more
