CRÈME BRÛLÉE
Amber B.

The experience overall at the Red Stag was great. The ambiance is rustic and wild. Imagine antlers and wild life around the restaurant and lodge. The servers were always eager to help and gave great recommendations. I highly recommend the halibut. It was perfectly cooked. It was flakey and had a decadent carrot puree that accentuated the halibut's flavor. The bread board had multiple types of breads to choose from and a butter and molasses spread. The berry cobbler isn't really a cobbler but more of a crisp. This was ok and not my favorite especially since I thought it would be more cobbler like. The cream brûlée was perfect!

Located inside the Grand Bohemian is a beautiful and cozy restaurant. You can definitely dress casual or dress up (like we did!) and come here for a nice dinner. The decor was upscale with nice touches of outdoorsy flare. I felt like what we wore was complemented by the color scheme of the restaurant lol! Tom was our server and he was so delightful and gave us a run down of the menu while making some suggestions. It was a girls night so we kinda went all out and shared everything. We started off with a couple cocktails. The bartender made me an amazing cucumber martini and we continued to indulge in some more cocktails throughout the evening. Elk carpaccio and beet salad as our starters which were delightful. We tried the duck breast which was cooked perfectly and the seared scallops on the mascarpone risotto. We didn't forget about the sides and had to try their mashed potatoes and carrots. Of course we had too much food but we packed the rest up and enjoyed them later as leftovers. The food was rustic but upscale and execution overall was great. The manager stopped over to check on us a couple times and we felt like the service was wonderful.

The food was absolutely delicious. We started with the deviled eggs and those were exquisite. Our entree was a shareable meal (don't recall the name ) and chose mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. It was all very tasty, it had a great flavor. I would just say that the temperature was slightly colder than I would expect the meat to be but we did ask for it medium rare. Regardless, it was all very enjoyable and staff was friendly. Oh and that bread pudding...wow...so good! We did ask for the ice cream on the side on purpose.

We were happy to join friends who had never visited Red Stag - this was our 2nd time and first since their reopening. The building is beautiful again and ambiance as inviting as before. They have a nice menu selection (back-lit menus!) and all of our meals were delicious. Our only complaint from the group was the server. She just wasn't engaged, going through the motions but not really present. One example is that an empty wine bottle sat on the table after our first course and throughout the entire dinner, even after we ordered and finished a 2nd bottle. She never poured wine and only checked back once to see how things were going. Diners expect more service at this quality of restaurant and with these prices.

12/31/25 My wife and I were staying at the Grand Bohemian for New Year's Eve and had not made dinner reservations. After checking in, we stopped by the hostess stand to see if anything was available. She found a 9:15 PM reservation, which we gladly accepted. We asked to see a menu at that time, and everything looked great. We returned a little before 9:00 PM and were told to have a seat at the bar for a drink while waiting. Around 9:05 PM, our table was ready. Once seated, we were surprised to learn that the menu we had been shown earlier was not what was being served. Instead, it was a New Year's Eve fixed six-course menu, with two choices per course, priced at $185 per person. At that point, leaving really wasn't an option. Our server greeted us, brought water, and explained that she would take our entire order at once and bring the courses out as they were ready so the evening would run more smoothly. The Food The food itself was excellent overall, though there were execution issues and significant pacing and service problems that overshadowed the experience. Amuse / Welcome A cold, heavy cream-based truffle flavor welcome drink for both of us (served before the first course). First Course My wife: Butternut Agnolotti -- hand-rolled spinach pasta with sunchoke, pancetta, and sage cream Me: Lobster Bisque -- poached Maine lobster, tarragon crème fraîche, Gruyère & chive gougère There was a long wait before the next course. Thankfully, the couple next to us was local and shared some recommendations for the area. Second Course My wife: Benton's Pears -- pear, arugula, sumac labneh, pomegranate, champagne vinaigrette Me: Smoked Short Rib -- parsnip mousse, gremolata, southern mop We were told the kitchen was backed up, which is understandable on a holiday. However, this is where the issues became obvious. A table of six behind us finished and left, and another group of five was seated -- both handled by the same server. Palate Cleanser Muscadine Granita At this point, the table seated after us was already receiving later courses. We continued to be told the kitchen was backed up, yet that table kept moving forward faster than we were. Third Course My wife: Seared Sea Scallops -- lobster risotto, Boursin, Benton's bacon-Brussels slaw, champagne beurre blanc Me: Beef Wellington -- truffle whipped potato mousseline, mushroom duxelle, roasted carrot, cipollini onion, black garlic reduction My cipollini onion was cold, which I mentioned when the server finally checked in. She offered to replace it, but I declined and continued eating. By this point, the table behind us had already received dessert. Dessert Hazelnut & Chocolate Mousse -- feuilletine crunch, toasted hazelnut, blood orange marmalade Apple Cobbler -- brown butter streusel, butter pecan ice cream, drunken raisins Desserts were not good at all. The blood orange marmalade on the chocolate mousse was extremely bitter. The apple cobbler looked like a few apples tossed into a dish with a hard granola-like topping -- not the streusel listed on the menu -- and it wasn't warm. This was disappointing, as dessert was supposed to be the finish to what had otherwise been a very good meal. Final Course Three cheeses drizzled with honey and served with crackers This final course arrived around 11:20 PM. Timing & Service Dinner took nearly three hours. We wanted to be back in our room before midnight to watch the ball drop. We had to speak with a manager and barely made it upstairs by 11:55 PM. Other servers did not appear to have the same pacing or service issues. Another nearby table that arrived before us was still there as well, but they were loudly talking and on their phones throughout the night. We were there to enjoy dinner, not to hear someone else's personal conversations. I glanced over several times and even saw the husband whisper to his wife to quiet down -- it didn't help. Final Thoughts Food: Excellent overall, with execution issues Service: Poor and disorganized Pacing: Completely unacceptable for a high-end, fixed-course New Year's Eve dinner This should have been a memorable evening. Unfortunately, service failures and lack of coordination took away from what should have been a special experience.

One of the best breakfasts I ever had in my life. Friendly staff clean and extremely customer service oriented. We came also for a Christmas Eve pre fix that was a 10/10 meal but no pics because I was too busy going to town :)

Porcini Ravioli

Decided a few months ago to head up to Asheville for Thanksgiving. Made a reservation at Red Stag Grill and am so grateful that I did. The four course meal did not disappoint. Our waiter, Brian, could not have been better. Perfect service with great attention to detail without hovering. I started with the Beet & Apple Salad. It was delicious and highly flavorful. The whipped goat cheese was perfect. If I have on critique, it's that the arugula was definitely on the lifeless side. Next, I had the Porcini Ravioli. The mushrooms were beautifully sautéed, and the pumpkin puree and créma under the ravioli were excellent. The pasta, itself, was over cooked for me, but still a great bite. For my entree, I chose the Cider Braised Pork Shank. It was served over a parsnip purée with sautéed root vegetables and farro. The veggies had a subtle flavor with great texture. The farro was the perfect al dente texture and the parsnip purée was delicious. Although I very much enjoyed the flavor of the pork shank, there were bites that were very chewy. When I moved the shank to cut into it, there was a random bone on my plate. No meat, just a bone. I felt like it was there to prop up the end of the shank for plating. I just don't understand why. It was so odd and not needed. For the final course, and my favorite course, dessert! The Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie was so fantastic! A dollop of whipped cream and a dollop of chocolate mousse, made it the perfect bite. We ended the meal with a French Press coffee. It is served with a small minute black sand timer so you depress the plunger when it has steeped to the perfect flavor. When you wrap up all of the wonderful food in the ambiance of the Grand Bohemian Hotel, you are in for a luxurious time! The hotel and restaurant feel otherworldly like you've stepped back into the era of Jay Gatsby. We walked away feeling very pampered and happy.

This is really good dining in a elegant, masculine environment. The offerings were diverse and prepared very well. The staff were incredibly friendly and more than accommodating. I love the ambience of the dark wood and elegant style. This is a great place for a date or For a business lunch. Honestly, one of the best restaurants on the south slope going into Biltmore..

I heard Red Stag has a $10 3-course lunch special on weekdays. How can I get a menu for that...or at least an idea of what has been available in the past (in case this is a daily chef's choice)? Thanks

Deni G Thanks for your message. We don't offer a $10 lunch special since 2019. We had a great…
