We had reservation at 4pm as we waited in the rain for someone to unlock the door, another gentleman called the Restaurant and asked if someone would unlock the door was very unhappy with the service or should I say the lack of service that we received. I ordered a glass of wine my husband a glass of Bree my son ordered a soda,well one person arrive with my son soda another with my wine. I finally found someone and about my husband's beer finally someone arrived NO apologies. The diner was the same way we we're never asked if everything is was ok. I have to upgrade my previous rating. We've been back quite a few times since and the previous review must have been during an off night. Manage your expectations, this is a steak joint. But by far the best steaks between Morris Plains and Chicago. I had the ribs this time. They were good, could have been more tender but the sauce was excellent. Sides & appetizers were good. My wife had a 5 oz fillet, which was excellent. Tender, perfectly done. "Why would you order anything else", she asked. We've also been there for the midweek specials, which are a very good value. But this place is all about Steaks. Service was great again. There was a large party, so I thought we would be overlooked. But we were well taken care of. Had dinner on a Saturday, total 4 people. You will need reservations and carpool if you are meeting someone. Parking was limited at least in the winter with snow on the ground. We arrived at 6:00PM with 6:00 reservations and seated within 10 minutes. No room at the bar if you plan on having a cocktail while you are waiting or after dinner. Beer selection is large. I had the mussels appetizer and a ribeye steak, steak was cooked to order, nice and thick too. Baked potato was unremarkable. Salad was unremarkable, looked like bottled dressing. We were done at 7:30 and the next reservation was at 7:30. We were not rushed and had a good time. I'd go back again and recommend to a friend if asked. read more

I gave 4 stars because it's in the middle of nowhere in Belvidere, if it was elsewhere might be 3. The safe of the place is rundown and decorum a bit over the top cheesy rustic, but the steaks are killer. They do an excellent job trimming up the NY strip and cook it to perfection every time. They're on the edge of glory.... Reading the reviews we were expecting great things. They were good but not great. Too much was a near miss. Salad was fresh and crispy but composed only of iceberg, carrots and tomatoes. Rolls were fresh but cold. Onion soup was delicious but lukewarm. NY strip was flavorful but medium to well, not medium rare as ordered. DH's mushroom-Swiss burger was perfect. French fries were okay. On the other hand the service was pleasant and accommodating and we were able to get a table for 2 on Saturday night without a reservation. Nice pub atmosphere, clearly popular with locals. Dinner was average. The server was asleep on the job. She didn't get my order right (I asked for no croutons on my dinner salad and it came with croutons), my huband was almost done with his meal by the time my salad arrived and our drinks were never refiled. Adding shrimp to my salad was $8 for 5 mediocre shrimp. Over all I can't say it was horrible, but I'm not going to be in any hurry to returm. read more

The Red Wolf is unique, from the outside it look like another local tavern. A place for a beer and a burger. Maybe a frozen bar pizza too, but don't let the appearance fool you. They don't just sell beer, but many different kinds on tap. Pizza and burgers aren't even on the menu. Duck in rasberry sauce, lamb, veal and many other wonderful things are. If you are local you know about the Red Wolf. Good food that you don't have to travel 45 minutes to a TGI Fridays or an Appleby's. Fresh salad to begin. A beer, almost any kind you want, along with it. Top shelf liq if you want it. A good cover band. Not too loud that you can't hear the people you are with. The crowd is not the polished "Beautiful People" that you would see in Easton or New Hope. They are hard working people who are coming out for good food and to hear some old time rock. If you get there before the band, a steak prepared the way you want it., with a baked potato, or what ever your fancy, is the best. Had a 24 oz. and took 6 oz. home for breakfast. Cajun style. Aw sum. This is what the real people do on weekends. People who want clean fun along with a good meal, as is prepared at home. I found the people there refreshingly honest as I enjoyed my tobacco on the front porch. Women and men coming out for a smoke, and going back to dance to the Beatles or the Allman Bros. No rap. Love the decor and the bar, actually quite a nice place. Very cozy and friendly. Had the 12 oz NY Strip. Impressive hunk of meat, but not quite rare enough. Also, a steak needs to "rest" after coming off the fire so the juices can re-distribute and maximum succulence can be achieved, Sadly, this place serves the steak on a red-hot cast iron "sizzle" plate, which is visually stimulating for presentation purposes, but continues to "cook" the steak at your table, and in my opinion dries it out. Advice: serve it on a regular plate or maybe even a wooden cutting board? French onion soup needs more broth and less onion. Dinner rolls were a bit stale, but OK. Sweet potato was dry. Seafood stuffing (which is sold as a steak "topper" but can be served on side in casserole dish) is kind of bland and overpriced at 8 bucks, but is a decent portion. Prices here are on the high side (NY Strip steaks start at 20 bucks for an 8 oz portion). But hey meat is expensive, so can't really knock em here. Beer selection is EXCELLENT and you get a great pour. Would like to go back and try some of their specials. They do all you can eat London Broil certain nights and other "deals" which may be a better value than the steaks. Still, it's Belvidere people, aka the middle of freakin nowhere, so don't be too critical of this joint. Overall most important suggestions: Scrap the cast-iron sizzle plates and lower prices by 15-20% on the food. read more

I went to the Red Wolf Inn for the first time over this past weekend. We literally drove past the place as it is a very unassuming looking building. Basically what is commonly referred to as a "hole in the wall". However I have found that sometimes they are the best places to eat. There are somewhat threadbare drapes at the windows to keep out the light, which actually kind of adds to the ambiance. It is a casual restaurant (no need to get dressed up here) with a sort of rustic appeal. We started with two appetizers to share... the Red Wolf Inn Sampler and one of the days specials, a Capris Salad, which consisted of fresh mozzarella, tomato and prosciutto done in a club sandwich type configuration (no bread). All were very good (I especially liked their stuffed mushrooms) and the portion size with 2 appetizers was ample for 4 people (although as there were only 3 of each item on the sampler you had to cut to share). We also had a very nice bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. Although they boast the best steaks in the area, neither I or the 3 other people I was with were overly impressed with the 8oz Strip Steaks we all ordered. They were good, but I wouldn't say great - a little grizzly (perhaps just the cut of meat they got this time around) . I'm not sure if the baked potato was a bit over or undercooked, as it was a little dry and a little on the hard side. The french fries that one of our party got looked to be the better choice that evening. Although overall an enjoyable meal, I have to say that it was somewhat overshadowed by my concern for the 2 wolves they have penned in the back of their parking lot... most likely just an attraction for the name sake of the restaurant. There were 2 pens... one about 10 x 12 and the other about 30 x 12. If I'd had an opportunity to ask, I would have questioned why one wolf was in such a small pen while the other in such a large one. And neither had a stick of grass for them to lie on... only concrete. The larger pen had a raised wooden platform with a makeshift den of sorts, while the other had a much too small igloo dog house for the other wolf to squeeze itself into. These are absolutely beautiful creatures who deserve a better existence! read more

My husband and I went there last night for our 33 year anniversary. It was our first time there and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent and the service very good. The place isn't fancy... but who needs that. It's not a big place, so I would suggest reservations on a Sat. night. We had them for 6:00 (people were already there for dinner) and by 7:00 the place was full. If you've never been there, it pretty easy to miss. Don't be swayed by the outer appearance. My husband's steak was top notch and I had one of the specials... grilled pork loin with a glaze. All was excellent and more than enough to take 1/2 home. This place needs to be bar rescued by John taffer. If it looks like a sh!t hole it prob is. You walk in and it's just nasty the floor looks like the original carpet that was in the home before it was converted to a bar,they have a long bar with a lot of spirits but not really impressed. Spent five and a half hours in here with our group and only had three drinks we all wanted to just leave and every time the waitress came back she asked if we wanted another when we asked for the check she frowned at us because I don't know. Absolutely the worst experience ever!!! As for the steaks I don't know if its just how they do it in the middle of no where or what but the 8oz is the same overall diameter as a 32oz just the cut is thicker but that just means the center isn't cooked all the way. When we finally left there was a group of "people at the bar in camo coveralls getting wasted drunk and when we walked outside we realized those camo folk rode their atv's to the bar outfitted with gun racks and 12 gauge shot guns. Love there wing night.. However the waitress we had was TERRIBLE.. First she tells us they have no more wings ON WING NIGHT then after talking to a manger and getting the wing situation sorted out she NEVER came back to our table.. We ran out of water and another waitress who was cleaning her tables asked us if she could get us refills. I left work early form my office in Clinton and arrived at 5:30. I expected to order something at the bar for dinner and a to-go order. After seeing the extensive menu on-line, I decided to see how a basic burger with bacon and cheddar was while I waited for my to-go order. After placing the burger order, I tried to place the to-go order and was told to wait toward the end of the meal. After the burger arrived, over the next 20 minutes the waitress which took my order prepared several drinks in front of me while I eat the burger. Only after I was completely done did she ask for the to-go order. At that point, I asked for the check and left. This is my absolute favorite place to go for a meal in all of Jersey. It may look a little dicey from the outside, but walk on in and you will have a fantastic meal with great service in a fun place. The rustic atmosphere is an intoxicating step back in time-nice and cozy, nothing pretentious. Just relax. All the food is excellent and I recommend the Caesar salad, French onion soup and the filet mignon covered in sautéed mushrooms. The meat is always cooked perfectly and is delicious. Best steaks around. The drinks are also all on the money and they have special cocktails often. Sitting at the bar is our favorite spot. The staff is super fun. You can make reservations for bar seating or table seating and do make them as this place gets packed! I have been coming here since I was a little girl! Probably close to 25 years. It was so exciting being able to "see the wolves." While that was the big draw for me back then, now it is for MY children :) That aside, the outside, much like the other said, is a dump. But don't let it deter you because the food is amazing. Escargot, french onion, steaks, and fries are the best. Steak sauces are homemade and a must have. Lemon drop martinis are delicious. Whenever we have a special occasion big night out we go here and are never disappointed. It is family friendly. Yes, you have the bar-scene, hunting crowd, but I have never felt out of place or unwelcome with my 4 kids. Service is so-so, but thats part of the atmosphere! read more

8 of us (including a 2 and a 4 yr old rolled in on a Sunday night on a holiday weekend. They were booked solid and yet thru some amazing moving around people in the restaurant they managed to seat us with NO wait! The food was great and so was the service. They got the kids meals out right away so with them satisfied we could enjoy our steaks. And enjoy we did. All prepared perfectly and generously sized.
