Out here in Belvidere, there aren't many options if you want to go out to eat: our experience was that, if you liked Miller and Steak and Potatoes, you were fine. OTherwise, deal with it. Then we went to Red Wolfe. This place looks sketchy from the outside, but go in the front doors and you will be greeted by the best bar we have found out here. They have a great selection on tap--belgians, crafts and imports, as well as the standards for the area. They also have a pretty impressive menu. Still heavy on the "big slab of meat with a potato next to it" kind of fare, but there is something beyond ribeye. We were impressed, and now when we want a night out, we end up here. This is a small very unassuming restaurant. If you didn't know where it was you'd drive right by. We both had the NY Strip steak. It was perfectly seared on the outside and medium rare on the inside. Definitely on point. The garlic butter sauce on top to doe for. Plenty to coat my steak fries. Great beer selection. The potato skins loaded with cheese and bacon. The only thing that was minor was that I called the night before and they forgot my reservation and they made every effort to fit us in within 30 min. This place came up as a recommendation while searching for a place to eat one evening. We were extremely happy we were introduced by Google recommendation. Plan in advance for seating because this place is amazing. We were lucky to call and an hour before and they some how had a table open. We had the French onion soup and frogs legs. Both outstanding. I had the strip steak and wife had the filet. Hands down. The best steak I ever had. Their homemade sauce is incredible. The strip steaks are enormous and thick. Worth the price and not too pricey. As everyone else has said, there is not a lot to choose from in the Belvidere area, but this place is worth the trip. The beer selection is BY FAR the best in a twenty-mile radius. The outside is a bit sketchy, but the wait staff and owner are super friendly once you get inside. The french onion is killer! My only wish is that they had a few more non dead animal options. I did try the seafood salad but found it disappointing. Despite that, the Red Wolfe is worth checking out is you want a quality meal, outstanding beer and a comfy environment. This place is only a 30 minute drive from me but until recently I had never heard of it. A good friend recommended it and I took my wife there for her birthday. We were thrilled. We both had steaks that were really excellent and prepared exactly as we asked. I tried the onion soup which was very good and my bride had frog's legs that she enjoyed. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. It was also very efficient despite the fact it was a busy Saturday night. This is definitely a keeper and great value. We'll be back soon. read more

Took my son here for his 17th birthday and racked up a nice bill. Great steaks and great service. After dinner, the waitress informed me that a random guy at the bar over heard my conversation about the birthday celebration and he paid for our dinner and tip in full. This is a pretty cool place. If you're within a half hour, it's worth a nice drive through farm country to grab some decent food and cold drinks. My friend suggested this place because he had recently been here. He said the food is pretty good and I should give it a try. We get there, and I find out that there are actual wolves out back behind the place! Like two real wolves. One barked at me. I was blown away and asked my friend why he wouldn't tell me about the wolves before he even mentioned that they have good soup. That's such a bigger selling point. Anyway, the place looks like a dirty old shack from the outside. I wouldn't have went in if my friend hadn't been there before. Once inside, it's a pretty nice place. It's a little dark, and the decor is somewhere between a log cabin and a saw mill. Service was great. We went on wing night and the wings were pretty good. ($10.95 AYCE). Beer came out in a frozen glass which is a huge plus for me. The other food looked good and I hope I get to come back soon to give it a try. Hard to find a good steak place but this is it. From the outside it looks like a biker bar and it use to be but the inside is deceiving and the food is excellent. I worked with the owner about 40 years ago in the Essex county jail, he retired and opened this place up. You have to make reservations on the weekend cause it fills up quickly but you won't find a better steak. The other items are just as good but steak is the menu.
