    Vanilla shake

This place has been here forever. I haven't been here in like 25 years. It's just as I remember it. Same wooden booths. I had a vanilla shake which was really good. Mozzarella sticks were average. They did give you a lot of them for the money. My nephew got the spicy chicken sandwich that was great. Looked amazing! Hamburgers are what they are known for. Everyone liked theirs. Our server was very friendly & accommodating. But the chicken wrap wasn't edible. My niece had one bite. Chicken was rubber & had no flavor. Stick to burgers & shakes.

Great service! Our server was so nice and she has been here 45 years. She is the BEST! We had the Wilson and Buffalo burgers and both were delicious

Mainstay of their business is the burger. Chili dog is good. Wife thought it a tad spicy. Fries complement!!

Nice place for family with younger children. Even older folks, too! A family was celebrating "Grandpa" birthday in nearby booth. It's very casual. Solid food with CASH ONLY payment or maybe check. No cards accepted. Although I think they had a debit card ATM. Their sign said they close at end of season which is maybe toward end of October....??

This is a place we look forward to visiting each summer. Good burgers, old school vibes, and the place is always packed. We were seated within 10 minutes on a busy August Saturday. The prices are pretty high, but that's what you get in a tourist city.

It's a very cute place, very nostalgic and a fun interior. The service was great. The prices are really reasonable and it has a big menu. Definitely great for families. The burger was good but not great. I wish the meat was seasoned. It seems like the meat quality is pretty good. The fries are also very plain. We enjoyed the cheese curds although they are kinda salty. My husband really liked the buffalo cauliflower. The coleslaw is basic but decent. I would come back but won't expect great. Just decent diner type food.

I liked the burger, coleslaw, and onion rings here. I did not like the fries. They are hard and chewy. Staff was nice. Cash only is a pain but they do have an ATM. I would return to try some other things.

What an awesome place. You'd think it was for tourists but it's not. People have been going here for decades. The velveeta burgers are delicious. Had 2 cocktails today, Bloody Mary and Mermaid Tail also delicious. Sat at the small bar and the bartenders were engaging. Don't be imitated if there's a line, they get you in and out but don't rush patrons out if you want to chill for a while.

Redamak's was recommended to my friends and I by multiple people so of course we had to come check it out. Probably one of the best burgers I've had. We also got mozzarella sticks and fries as sides and those were amazing too. They had A LOT on the menu, it was hard to choose! They were also accommodating to food allergies and provided a lot of alternative for those that don't eat meat! Our waitress was so personable and friendly. She gave taught us some history about the restaurant and how a lot of the servers are long time employees (some 15+ years!!!) This very much was a that small town, family- owned diner feel and I loved it!

Cash only! They do have ATMs. The sampler platter in my opinion is not worth the $22, but the burgers are amazing. The food came out quick. The building is very spacious.

We grabbed a beer and a glass of wine at the bar while we waited. The atmosphere is one of my favorite things about this restaurant. It's open, welcoming, and full of personality. I loved all of the dog photos throughout the restaurant and their "Sit. Stay. Eat!" theme, it gives the place such a fun, relaxed vibe. The menu is awesome, I honestly had a hard time deciding because everything sounded so good. We started with the truffle fries and they were incredible. For my entrée, I chose the grilled red snapper tacos, they were delicious. The fresh pineapple salsa paired perfectly with the fish, and I especially loved the pickled red cabbage on top. The snapper was grilled perfect. My husband and daughter shared the grilled shrimp po'boy which turned out to be a great decision because it's a generous-sized sandwich. They both liked the Cajun remoulade sauce and the soft telera roll it was served on. They also ordered a side of onion rings. My son enjoyed the cheeseburger from the kids menu. Our server was friendly and attentive. The Stray Dog has great food, a fun atmosphere, and excellent service. It's easy to see why it's such a popular spot. We will definitely be back the next time we're in New Buffalo!

Luckily, we were able to snag two seats at the bar. Just a heads up that they do check IDs for bar seating, even if you aren't ordering alcohol. If you prefer the outdoors, they also have a lovely patio available. The cocktail menu is quite extensive, and I opted for the regular sangria, which they confirmed was gluten-free. It tasted very summery. While their printed menu doesn't explicitly mark gluten-free items, they are very accommodating and do offer gluten-free buns and tacos. For those interested, the veggie burger is not gluten-free, but I ended up ordering the Cali chicken sandwich on a gluten-free bun and it was absolutely delicious--I cleaned my entire plate. Regarding sides, the only gluten-free option is the bag of kettle chips. My husband ordered the lobster roll, which came served with their homemade chips. Overall, a great meal and a nice atmosphere.

Since Sonny D's opened, we've been regulars.........typically dining there two or three times a week from May through October. We've even started entertaining clients in the downstairs speakeasy, where I've been three times this month alone. The cocktails are average, the karaoke is fun enough, and while the food has never been destination worthy, it was acceptable for a small town with limited dining options. Let's be honest about the food.......it's perfectly ordinary Midwestern Italian American fare.......Chicken Parmesan with low-moisture mozzarella, predictable salads, uninspired pasta, and entrées that are consistently... fine. Not offensive, not memorable. "Good enough for New Buffalo" has probably been the restaurant's greatest asset. What happened today, however, ensured we'll never return..... ever After a long day on the boat, we walked in with our exhausted four year old looking for dinner before the town closed down......Instead of even the slightest attempt at hospitality, we were greeted by a hostess whose warmth could have chilled Lake Michigan.....We were simply told that they were "short staffed" and therefore needed a reservation. That was it. No "I'm sorry." No estimate for a wait. No offer to put our name on a list. No suggestion to order at the bar. No recommendation to grab a drink while waiting. Not even the basic courtesy of asking whether we'd like to place a takeout order!!!!! Like, you are losing revenue? Why no to go orders? Hospitality isn't about having a perfect night.....it's about how you handle an imperfect one. Every restaurant has staffing challenges!!!! Guests understand that! What guests should never experience is being handed the restaurant's internal operational problems as though they're expected to solve them......"We're short staffed" isn't a hospitality strategy.....it's an excuse. Staffing is a management issue, not a guests issue. The guest walked through your door to enjoy dinner, not to receive an update on your labor schedule! The proper response is, "We're so sorry......we're running behind tonight. Here's what we can do for you......you can place a to go order and come back and pick it up in 30 minutes" or whatever time...... anything but telling me your companies private staffing issues That's hospitality. She didnt even say sorry! What we received instead was indifference..... I've been paying taxes in New Buffalo for over twenty years.....I've watched this town grow, supported local businesses, and recommended countless restaurants to friends, family, and clients who own summer homes here! Including this one! Never again! In all that time, I cannot recall another business in town making us feel so unwelcome over something that could have been handled with the slightest amount of professionalism. One interaction erased years of goodwill. There are plenty of restaurants with average food that thrive because people feel genuinely welcomed. Sonny D's has average food and, unfortunately, now appears to have forgotten the most important part of the restaurant business: making guests feel like you actually want them there. Our patronage has ended. I've already begun steering friends, family, and clients elsewhere, and I cannot recommend Sonny D's to anyone looking for genuine hospitality. In a town built on repeat customers and summer regulars, that's a remarkably shortsighted way to do business.
