When walking up it's like walking up to an old cathedral, which is exactly what this was. There is indoor and outdoor seating (with a retractable roof) so there's space for everyone. Our server was friendly and welcoming and helpful as was everyone that we encountered. The ambience was nice but not stuffy. The restroom was neat with lots of mirrors. Celebrated here for my good friend's birthday the other night and we all opted in for the Dine La 2025 experience menu. For $65, the meal comes with an appetizer, entree, and dessert. There is variety of dishes to choose from, but some are an extra cost. I got the Manila clams, Hanger steak, and the Creamsicle baked Alaska. I must say that I didn't expect the clams to be that tasty. The soup it comes with tastes very savory. No sand in their clams so they cleaned that shit good before cooking, 5/5. The hanger steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. Very tender and juicy. The onion sauce was a good combo with the steak. The dessert was a home run for me. Jesus, I killed it so fast and the portion is pretty decent. The orange ice cream on the bottom was tarty and delicious. The cream was smoky. I would definitely come back for that damn dessert, lol. You've gotta try the lobster thing. I can't recall the name. We also really like the beet salad and the pasta with wild boar. Came here for brunch on a special day and wow--the blueberry pancakes were amazing! Super juicy and flavorful, I still think about them and honestly want to go back just for those. Food is incredible here! My favorite part is the Brazilian cheese bread that they give. It's the best I've ever had. I had their California sea bass and the lamb belly. The sea bass was cooked well and the pasta was addictingly good. Very acidic sauce while well balanced with the umami mussel seafood flavor. The lamb belly was fatty but a bit too salty. I love their beef tartare. The hashbrown it sat on was really crispy and gave a great texture to the dish. We really enjoyed our experience here. We made a reservation for our anniversary. We received complimentary wine. That was a nice touch. They were pretty consistent about refilling our cups before we even noticed they were low. We were seated in the outdoorish area. The seating was all cozy. I like lounge style seating. Every chair and banquette looked lush. It was a little hot on a summer evening but as the sun was setting it got cooler. The food was tasty and the portions were huge. Even the ones that looked small were sneakily filling. I could not finish a single item but we enjoyed what we ordered. I don't like cheesy bread but I tried a complimentary roll and it was on the better end of the ones I've tried. I ordered the Parker rolls and those were amazing especially with the sweet butter they came with. I was not a fan of the beef tartare because I don't like sour cream and there was something in it that reminded me of that but if you like sour cream and regular yogurt you should be fine. We got the pork chop and gnocchi as our mains with broccolini and pee wee potatoes as the sides. The pork was super juicy. The gnocchi was creamy but the crumble gave it a nice texture on top. Loved it. The broccolini had a nice citrusy acidic flavor I enjoyed. The potatoes were my least favorite. They were fine but they didn't really stand out amongst all the other amazing plates. For dessert, we had the upside down cake and peach sorbet. The peach was pretty good and a nice big size. The upside down cake was the star. And as a nice little touch for our anniversary they lit a little candle there and wished us a happy anniversary again. I loved the way each dish had different textures. Had a really fabulous experience with their dine LA menu here--the service was really good, the assortment of dishes were all amazing, and the decor was perfect for a chill, outdoor patio meal. I ordered the Dungeness crab, which was tangy, creamy, and slightly spicy from the chili oil. My friends ordered the beef tartare, which was served on a hash brown/ potato latke and was also super tasty, as well as the shrimp which was additional charge but super flavorful. For my main entree I had the hanger steak which was perfect as medium rare, easy to chew and lying in a bed of mashed potatoes and corn. Everything was amazing, and I totally cleared my plate. For dessert the peaches and cream was good but probably the least special part of the meal, as it was strangely grainy. This used to be such a good place, but after our experience yesterday we decided to take it off of our list. After an afternoon at the Broad, we decided to come here for dinner as it's been one of our favorite places in DTLA. Our server was inattentive and sloppy--dropping menus in front of us as she walked away. We ordered almost all of the starters, and they were ALLL brought to us at the same time-- it didn't even occur to our server to ask if we wanted them coursed out. The scallop ceviche tasted off to me. My partner ate them and ended up spending the end of dinner in the restroom, sick. None of the other dishes we particularly good either. We used to love this place, but it's been getting less and less good. Now it's off our list. :( read more

Came here for a wedding, and the food absolutely blew my mind. First of all, I loved the blue walls of the venue -- they gave off such a charming vintage vibe. Now, on to the food... wow. We had Everything Parker Rolls with date butter, Tangerine Beets, Sugar Snap Peas, Hamachi Crudo, Rigatoni, Day Boat Scallops, Rack of Red Wattle Pork, Dark Chocolate Cremeux Bar, and Almond Financier. Every single dish was incredible. I honestly wish I had a second stomach so I could've eaten more! My favorite appetizer had to be the Sugar Snap Peas. They were served on a bed of coconut milk and Thai basil sauce, topped with spiced cashews. The flavor combination was so unexpectedly delicious. We couldn't stop eating it. As for the mains, I couldn't pick a favorite because they were all that good. I do want to shout out the rigatoni though -- it was my first time having warm grapes in a pasta dish, and it was a memorable experience. Finally, the dessert that stole the show (and everyone's favorite of the night) was the Dark Chocolate Cremeux Bar. What a find! We were hoping to try a new spot before a show at the Ahmanson. We parked at the Music Center garage and walked here... about a 15 minute walk. Valets were stationed outside and a man in black showed us the way in - up some stairs to the left off the street. A hostess greeted us as we admired the lounge area as you walk in. Delightful! We had a reservation and were seated right away. Bussers kept our waters full and our server was very kind. We each got a cocktail - my old fashioned was fantastic! And ordered an avocado salad to share and we each opted for a pasta dish and a side of rainbow carrots. Let me tell you - everything tasted great. But the memory of those roasted carrots is still with me - they were the highlight! I don't know how a chef did what they did to those carrots. Firm but cooked well, sweet but savory, seasoned with who knows what and a creamy sauce the rested on top of that was so, so yummy. I loved my pasta, too, and the salad (though I'm not fan of pickled onions and casually moved those aside). Simple things didn't happen like "how is everything, would you like pepper on your salad, can I get you anything else?" Couldn't find my server to order another glass of wine with my entree. Water glass remained empty. When she did walk by she looked at our table, must of have seen we were out of wine and water and just kept walking. Flagged another sever much later after never seeing her again and asked for both. Time dragged on as my food got cold. Our server left without saying she was done and who our new server would be. Someone else brought the check. Was looking forward to dessert only to be told after I boxed my cold meal, "We don't serve desserts at lunch." When I suggested perhaps they should note that on their menus or web pages - "yeah, we should." The valet ticket has a QR code to scan to bring up your car. Didn't work, "yeah, that doesn't work." Wow! Such lovely outdoor seating area/venue! I attended a wedding here a few weeks ago and the outside location and food was lovely! As soon as you are directed to the outside area, you are greeted with beautiful flowers and trees. The facility does a great job of decorating the area with lots of lights too. All the food was delicious from the oven brick pizza, to the elevated wedding menu, and the cocktails served at the bar. The passed appetizers were the best part of the meal: - japanese fried chicken - 5/5 - fried artichoke slices - 5/5 - mini crab cakes - 5/5 the dinner that was served family style was a bit of a disappointment though, and made me glad that I ate so many of those delicious apps! - avocado salad - 3/5 (but mostly because I don't like bleu cheese dressing and it was pretty much all over the salad which was iceberg lettuce wedges and slices of avocado - brussels sprouts - 4/5 solid offering but a little too much creme fraiche (see a theme here?) - hamachi crudo - 5/5, this was really excellent and I wished we had more, it was the only dish that was completely eaten with no leftovers - rigatoni - 3/5, came with grapes (weird), pistachio, garden kale pesto, really nothing very interesting and just weird with the grapes - california sea bass - 3/5, I think it was overcooked as the filets of fish were rather dry and overall it was not very tasty - porterhouse - 4/5, presentation left a lot to be desired with chunks of steak with large pieces of fat, some overcooked, some not, and with grilled slices of grey king oyster mushrooms on top that looked like fish skin. The pieces of meat that weren't too fatty and overcooked were quite tasty but i felt rude sifting through the pieces to find a good one I had to leave before dessert so can't comment on that. Not sure I'll go back again - so many other good places to eat, but it was a good venue for private dining, maybe just for the appetizers though. Also not good for people with mobility issues with all the stairs, even though there is an elevator, you still need to take a flight of stairs to get to the elevator and then another set of stairs to get to the outdoor dining space. read more

Dine LA July 2024 SERVICE: Wonderful (5 Stars -- Includes the hostess and of course our charming server, Emily ) AMBIANCE (4 Stars) The Front Room was empty because all patrons were packed in the Main Dining Room. When the hostess led us to our table (there were two of us), our table was like 5 inches away from a four-seater-occupied table. It seemed like we were joining 4 strangers! When I balked, the hostess offered us another two seater that was decently distanced from other tables. As the evening progressed (around 8), the main dining room became too noisy and it was difficult to have a conversation. Other than that, the main dining room was beautiful. It is beautiful when the sun is shining (they have a sun roof) or when it gets dark and you get those wonderful lighting. They also have a commendable Ladies Room. It has eight private stalls -- private as in the sides are covered all the way to the floor. The front door of each door reaches close to the floor, so a lot of privacy there two. In addition, they keep it clean (i.e., no overflowing paper towels in the trash). And paper towels are well supplied. Same with the toilet paper. DRINKS I ordered a couple glass of Chardonnay which was very good ($28). (5 Stars) It was a Californian Chardonnay from a winery called Racines. My dining companion ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail (the so-called mocktail). It was called Cantaloupe ($18). She said it tasted so-so and it was devoid of any cantaloupe flavor (Zero stars) FOOD Thank you, thank you, Redbird, for the oh-so delicious Cheese Bread (5 Stars) -- Brazilian style. Not only do I appreciate their deliciousness, I also appreciate that they are complimentary. Many restaurants no longer offer complimentary bread. DineLA Starters: My dining companion and I each ordered the Grilled Lamb Belly. Certain portions of the meat was difficult to chew. I had to spit them out (in the paper napkin that I brought). Came by for dinner the other night and it was a world class experience. Redbird is a New American restaurant featured in the Michelin guide. Parking is available on the street, in nearby garages, or with the valet. Dining options include the bar, the lounge, or in the picturesque dining room with a view of the sky. Loved the vibe. Staff were all in a uniform button up shirt and some even opted for a mask. Meal started off with the complimentary house cheese bread which was phenomenal. The cheese bread was light and fluffy and served with a side of tasty butter. Moved on to the soft shell crab which was world class. The soft shell crab was gigantic, fried to perfection, flavorful, and served over a bed of gazpacho. The starberry and burrata salad was also fantastic. The salad was very light, fragrant, and flavorful. The strawberries were very sweet and ripe. The burrata was soft and excellent! For the main course, opted for the 24 oz bone-in ribeye which was seasoned to perfection. Requested this medium and it came out as such. This entree came with a side of grilled onions along with some broccolini! The brussel sprouts were lightly cooked and had a Korean flair to it. The gnoochi with truffles were extremely fragrant and the gnoochi was cooked to a perfect al dente. For the dessert courses, this was also world class. The chocolate panna cotta was very light and I loved how there was a contrast in flavors in this super light dessert. First of all, the main dining room during brunch is gorgeous. The design is incredible, and the lighting was so beautiful. Definitely a great place to enjoy the ambiance! I saw a couple a few tables over brought a backgammon board to play while they enjoyed their coffee and I was so jealous. They do offer valet parking, but we were able to park easily on the street. Might not be so easy during dinner service, but doable for Saturday brunch! We were seated in one of the booths in the center, and I must say it is VERY close to the next table. The tables are maybe a couple inches apart, so it's basically communal seating at that point. It smells so good instantly, which made it tough to decide what to order! I went with the Short Rib Hash. It was delicious and savory and warm. It came with a poached egg, but I must say it was a little too undercooked. Most of the egg whites were still liquid which caused a soggy, watery mess at the bottom of the bowl. And trust me, I usually like my eggs lightly cooked. The dish itself was also not quite as I expected because it was served in larger chunks of meat and potato. The meat was so flavorful and tender, which went so well with the veggies and roasted red pepper puree! My boyfriend got the Fried Egg Sandwich which was so good, I'm glad I was able to steal a bite. The bacon was super smoky and chewy, with perfectly toasted bread, and salty fries. I would definitely try dinner here sometime, especially because the cocktail menu looks great! read more

Unfortunately Redbird is not what it once was, or we caught them on a bad day. Our server was rarely to be seen and difficult to flag down, and became even more so when one of us received a completely raw burger. It was practically tartare. Our server apologized and said it would be 5 minutes more for a cooked burger. 20 minutes later, and no check-in from the server, the same burger was brought back (well done but mangled). No acknowledgment or explanation, no offer to remove it from the bill for the inconvenience. Everyone had already finished eating by the time this guest's meal was received. The drinks didn't disappoint, the service was excellent and the ambience sexy! Parking is valet only so get there early to snatch a street parking and do a little walk if you want. The place is used for weddings as well so you know it's gonna have great lighting with the open roof and view of the church from the restaurant. This is far and away my favorite DineLA of Winter 2025. The intentionality of every dish we got, even including the cocktails, was spectacular. I came here on the first night of DineLA, January 24th. We snagged the last reservation online and were seated promptly. Our waitress was incredibly kind, even offering a complimentary glass of Cava to toast our anniversary! They also brought out a delicious plate of pão de queijo on the house to share. The restaurant is located in a 19th century revitalized cathedral--one of the oldest buildings in Los Angeles. The space is beautiful and lively, with gorgeous details preserved from the original architecture. Moving on to food! We partook in their DineLA, which was a very reasonable $65 per person considering the quality of food we were given. We picked: - HAMACHI CRUDO with guava ponzu, lemongrass, serrano, crispy ginger, and shishito. This plate was delicious, my favorite part being the cured roe on top of the hamachi. - MANILA CLAMS in a Thai broth, lemongrass, glass noodles, black lime. This was so warm and comforting, and the glass noodles were so pleasant to slurp and eat. - CREEKSTONE FARMS HANGER STEAK with grilled romaine, fondant potatoes, horseradish crème fraiche, and onion jus. This was perfectly cooked and every ingredient on the plate sang. I LOVEDDD the horseradish crème fraiche, and even the grilled romaine was thoughtfully executed. Getting a bite with every single bit was absolutely the way to go. - DUCK LEG CONFIT with xo, wild rice, miso yam, and charred escarole. This was a satisfying, savory delight. The duck leg was simultaneously crispy and so tender, with the rendered bits of fat on the leg absolutely melting in your mouth. Another get-a-bite-with-everything situation. - TIRAMISU TRIFLE with mascarpone mousse, vanilla sponge cake, coffee feuilletine. That coffee feuilletine MADE this dessert for me. The crunch was so pleasant to break up the soft, luxurious mousse. - CREAMSICLE BAKED ALASKA with blood orange semifreddo, blueberry, and torched meringue. Holy crap, this was fire. The blood orange semifreddo was sweet and creamy with the meringue, the whole thing absolutely invoked the nostalgia of a creamsicle in a new and exciting way. We couldn't resist also ordering the Nashi Pears, with stracciatella, pomegranate, market greens, yuzu agave vinaigrette, and sesame crunch. Now THAT is easily my favorite winter salad moment I've ever had. Every ingredient was necessary on that plate; nothing felt forced or out of place. I would 1000% get this again. We got a few different drinks; their Don Flamenco (special for DineLA), one that I cannot find the name of but I know had Frangelico, and Pineapple Brandy (THIS is the drink to get, I'm so upset I don't remember the name of it and can't find it on their menu online.) Acapulco Princess and Lost in Translation were both stellar, too. The prices are generally higher on the non-dineLA menu, which is why I'm glad they're participating in DineLA to give us the opportunity to try out a more upscale, high quality restaurant that's very intentional with what they're putting on the plate. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a very exclusive somewhat pricey restaurant for date night or just come by yourself. It's a shareable plate a lot of food I shared that with a friend it was excellent. The server brought out some complementary little small rolls that were to die for and we also had the avocado salad. It's always a treat to dine at Redbird (which I've done numerous times), chef Neil Fraser's flagship restaurant close to City Hall. It's a lovely space, the former rectory building of a former cathedral Vibiana, now an event space also run by Fraser. The restaurant's main dining room is semi-outdoors, with a retractable tent-like roof, while the enclosed bar area also has dining tables. There's a pretty garden on the lower level that used to be open for dining, but now is just for private events. This is also the case with the courtyard outside Vibiana; they were setting up here for a wedding the day I visited. This courtyard was the main dining area during the pandemic. I visited most recently for the weekend brunch; dinner is served 6 days/week. I came at the 10 am opening and the place filled up fast. I started with the Dora the Flora mocktail with raspberry, ginger and lemon. Many tables were ordering the buttermilk biscuits, but I got a very tasty fig and raspberry milk bun. I always gravitate towards shrimp and grits if it's on the menu, but Redbird also had a congee dish with shrimp. My server said the dishes were very similar, even served in the same bowl, but I went with the congee because it had more veggies. Both come with a soft egg. Delish. I got a side of Weiser Pee Wee potatoes with crisp chorizo and rosemary, a very generous portion. The Basque baked eggs other tables were ordering looked very tasty. The restrooms are also very pretty. Overall a tasty and pretty quick meal in a beautiful setting. Delicious option for brunch in a former church with an open air dining room (that can be covered if needed). The short rib hash and bacon were great but the blueberry ricotta pancakes were epic (and enormous) - they may be as good as a pancakes can be. The French press coffee is ok but not memorable. Saturday night, June 27 my wife and I went to your restaurant to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We had heard nothing but good things about the place and we're very excited to be there on this special occasion. We came in at reservation time and was asked to wait in the bar and the bartender was quite nice very pleasant. when they finally brought us to our table the weight staff, a young lady who had the most consistent smile of any weight staff I've ever experienced was very excited about getting our order in. When she returned She Seemed to be trying to turn over our table before we even had ordered our food. Now when I say that , I mean everything was fast, can I get you something? How about now? How about now? She was very pushy. Finely we decided on what we wanted. Ordered the food. Soon the appetizer and the drinks showed up very close to each other, which is a big plus. When we were about halfway through the appetizer and all of a sudden the rest of our meal showed up all at once. It was not coursed out in any way. Like they were trying to rush us to clear the table. by the time we got to our main course, it was cold, beautifully presented but cold. It had sat around, waiting for us to finish our appetizer and became cold. When we started to pick at our main course. A bus person came up and tried to take away the appetizer before we were finished. Then they came and tried to take away our drinks before they were done. Now that happened twice, both drinks, mine and my wife's got down to about maybe a sip and a half left and before we could even get to that, they tried to take away our drinks asking us if we wanted new ones. We really felt rushed. We did wind up eating everything. The food was fantastic tasting, even cold. Before we were done sure enough they tried to take our plates again, offering us dessert before we finished our main course. That happened about three times. We visit a lot of Michelin rated restaurants one of the best things about them besides the pride of serving an amazing dish when it ready, is that we are able to take our time. And Enjoy the food. We actually saw the chef after we finished and complimented him on his food. Now the reason I did not say something at the moment was because like I said before it was my 20th anniversary and I was trying my best to enjoy being with my wife at a beautiful restaurant that I flew in from New York just to be with her for our night. The food was fantastic. The atmosphere fantastic, But the service... absolutely abysmal, in my opinion. On our way out a young wait staff person who we had not met offered to show us the cathedral event space because we were sort of looking around at the beautiful space, extremely nice. I wanted to point that out because it's not like every person that was waiting that night had done a bad job, but while we were eating, everyone that came to our table was doing a bad job. I have been deliberating whether or not to post my review for Valentines dinner as I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately left very disappointed. My boo really hyped this place up as he found it listed as one of the most romantic restaurants in LA. I don't think the ambiance really screamed romance at me other than the fact that this used to be a church, which is not very obvious from the outside or the interior decor. We were seated on the first floor where it was very minimalist white walls and tables lined inside. If I wasn't told beforehand it was a church I would have never known. Service was also lackluster- our anniversary is a couple days before so we were celebrating both occasions and made a note on our OpenTable reservation to reflect this. The service given by the staff did not indicate that they cared about giving good service. Just a wild guess that there is no incentive for them to give good service since we had to prepay for the dinner including the 20% service charge before even arriving. Food was disappointing too: - chawanmushi had too many flavors going on and was too much - scallop was a bit too salty - Black ruffle gnocchi was made from the most underwhelming truffle we ever encountered. We couldn't even last beyond the first bite and just left it to the side. To be fair, it was likely made from summer truffles, but it was so unpleasantly nauseating that for the first time ever we stopped at the first bite. Not sure if the second floor (which was reserved for an event at the time) is better, but we were seated in first floor, where ambiance was just whatever. I had visited this restaurant two years ago to celebrate a colleague's graduation. Food was good...service was non-existent. Our server basically disappeared most of night and we were uber frustrated. I was going to write a review but ended up getting too busy and just ended up writing Redbird off the list... However, last week, on Good Friday, my girl surprised me and made a reservation at Redbird for a special dinner after church to commemorate the day and the powerful mass at the Cathedral. Unfortunately, the service was even worse. Our server's behavior ranged from condescending to flippant to disinterested. She didn't realize that we both could see her face after she left the table and turned the corner. We were aghast at her expressions. She didn't engage with us as she did other tables - especially those that were of her generation. And we are not older folks. She looked to have fun with them and serving us, we guessed, was drudgery. Sad. Her last fateful act? She ignominiously dropped the CC machine on our table, turned her back and walked off... Our food was average. The apps were good. The mains were lukewarm as it was a windy evening and the food was trafficked from the kitchen which was outside the patio area and was hit by wind that cooled both dishes down. And we were never approached after the mains, by the server, after the mains hit the table until the bussers (who were awesome, kind and professional, BTW) removed the dishes and the server slapped the dessert menus down. At that point we were eager to leave and let the cold food issue go... Icing on the cake? We weren't going to leave without speaking to "management". We spoke with Andy Bartolotta, the Ops Manager. He was extremely upset with how we were treated and apologized profusely (especially as it was the second time his staff had torpedoed the Redbird dining experience for me). My lovely lady is an experienced and respected HR professional and expressed her concern at the way we were treated and questioned how the staff was trained. At the end of the night, the experience felt like we were at Denny's. We wished the bill also reflected the experience. Oh, the icing part...Andy stridently and passionately promised that his boss was going to make it a priority to call me over the weekend to discuss the experience and to "make it right by us". And Andy said that he would personally wait on us if we were to come back after speaking to his boss. It is now April 12th - 12 days later. Crickets. Never heard from anyone. Not even Andy, who has my business card, followed up. Needless to say, there are plenty of options in this great City of ours. We work hard for the ability to afford to eat at nice restaurants. I grew up in our family business - a restaurant - and learned the value of how exceptional service can win the day, no matter the competing challenges. And how, conversely, poor service can do just the opposite. And it did. Bon chance, Redbird! read more

To preface, Redbird has been on our 'must experience' list for years and requires a reservation weeks in advance - we thought it would be a great place to celebrate our anniversary. The setting is fantastic with an open atrium dining area ideal for optimal So Cal weather. Minutes after settling in at our table, we were greeted with a doughy cheese bread that melted in your mouth. Where Redbird falls short is the food. I ordered the Ribeye which was drenched in a salty mustard sauce disguising the natural rich succulence of a good steak. It came with fresh French fried that could have been crispier. My girlfriend had the pork chop recommended by the waiter. It was so-so accompanied by a heaping pile of mushy collard greens which we debating sending back but didn't feel it was worth the drama. We asked for a wine recommendation by another waiter who clearly lacked the expertise in wine pairing thus picked a dull French variety. Overall - if you're looking for a vibrant ambiance and tasty cocktails, Redbird is the place. read more
