A nice strong jasmine tea with some basil and lemon. The boba is actually half and half quality so not too bad, but not as squishy as onezo or tancha. The rose drinks were way too sweet at 50% so I'm surprised this was perfect at normal sweetness. Toxic garden: Pretty decent. The tea cuts some of the bitterness from the greens but you can definitely still taste the grassiness. 7/12/19 Watermelon rose mojito: I don't really remember how this tasted but i remember the mojito part being stronger than the watermelon rose part. 2/12/19 Rose buds 50% w boba: Holy. Redstraw has opened very recently, maybe about a few months ago. They menu has a variety of teas that are prepared many different ways. Boba can be added to pretty much anything you order. Also make sure to look for their features or special drinks right by the counter where you order. I always have a thing where I have to try out the milk tea with boba in all tea places. That's what I got here, along with the blood orange iced tea. The store is very clean, and looks very modern with its white furniture and copper seats. As for the taste in my opinion, it was just okay. I was hoping it would have more dense flavors and creamier texture to it. You can ask for levels of sugar, and ice. I got mine the way it comes just easy on the ice since I didn't want it dilute my tea. The orange tea was good though. Hopefully it's just the one time but I will be back again in a bit to try it out again. read more

We are hooked and this place is walking distance! The mango mint mojito and peach Bellini (no alcohol) so refreshing!! Their milk tea is not my favorite as far as milk teas go but I do order on occasion if I want milk tea and don't feel like driving far. If I had one criticism it is that their lid seal doesn't seal anything! Literally just balanced my drink on me while trying to open my car door with two drinks and it completely spilled on my chest! It was as if it completely didn't even have a lid! So I think they may need to fix that. Service was good too. Insta worthy drinks! I love the variety of drinks here and haven't found many places that have veggies or fresh fruit in their drinks! I got the toxic green which has celery, kale and cucumber juice on top of jasmine green tea! I loved it! Even without sugar it wasn't bitter. I thought it was healthy and refreshing! My partner got the thai tea, and it's not made by powder so it was pretty good. I didn't want a caffeinated drink so I got the rooibos milk tea, and it was very interesting. Got recommended this place by my cousin. The teas are light in flavor and more fruity and floral than some other high end tea places. Quality of tea was pretty good and we enjoyed all our drinks. The iced Peach Mandarin is made with black tea so it has a fuller body and slight bitterness but the peach makes it refreshing. We got the Redstraw milk tea with almond milk so it's light and less rich than dairy milk tea. The dalgona milk tea is slightly bitter from the dalgona pieces. We opted to try: Matcha latte | matcha is usually not sweet so I opted to keep my latte at 75% sweet (standard). That was a mistake. It was too sweet and I didn't enjoy the flavor at all. Another boba shop in Irvine! Which is always a welcome addition, considering my love for those starchy balls of sugar that make my day whenever I am able to get some in my belly. Redstraw makes a great first impression. The menu is large and clear and easy to understand. It is located in the Kohl's plaza on Jeffrey with parking aplenty. There are a few seats and small tables inside if you're looking to stay awhile. Drinks seem creative but don't deviate too far from what most boba drinkers crave and love. I had to try the Redstraw Milk Tea with honey boba since it seemed to be their signature drink. It was good, reminded me of a royal milk tea at other places. Drinks only come in one size and are on the pricier side compared to other boba chains, although this shop does feel a bit more boutique so maybe the extra $0.50 or so is justified. The honey oolong milk tea also seemed to be another top contender that I will have to try on a future visit. Cups are the tall slender kind, which I do not prefer since I always feel like I finish my boba before the tea in those sort of cups. Overall, I give RS a solid four stars for a solid cup of boba. Super refreshing teahouse in Irvine! My friends and I visited Redstraw on a whim and came away impressed with the teas and customer service. Upon entering the store, you're greeted by an open, airy atmosphere and super clean environment. There's an appropriate amount of seating and the menus on the wall are large and easy to understand. We were greeted by two super friendly employees who introduced us to the menu and the recommended items. We also got to try two of their drinks available to sample, the Jasmine Green Milk Tea and the Rose Garden. The Jasmine Green Milk Tea was very floral and sweet, it'd be great with 50% sugar. The Rose Garden is probably my favorite drink of my visit. It's just sweet enough, with floral notes and hints of passion fruit or lychee flavor and citrus. Super good, you gotta try it! I ordered the Blue Lady; it honestly smells better than it actually tastes, but I still really like it! Very floral and refreshing. My friend's New Zealand Sunny has a very rich, red color. It's on the fruitier side, kinda like a really fancy Capri Sun. It's also non-caffeinated, so if you don't wanna stay up late, this is a good option! My coworker got a drink from here for me once and it was one of the colorful tea ones. Something Daisy、I think? Surprisingly enough 、it had the perfect sweetness、tartness、and tea flavor! I usually avoid those colored drinks because I feel they either overpower the taste with lemon or is only great for the looks and not the taste. But the balance on it was so good and the tea taste was not covered by the lemonade So for these colored tea ones、it's a good 4 stars. Recently 、I decided to check out the store and try their cream top tea. This one was soso. Their tea taste was slightly too sweet. I was also expecting their cream top to be thick like other places. The one here was very milky and not quite creamy as other places. Almost like a basic soft peak whip cream. Wasn't too impressed by it. Prices here are slightly higher too. Like cheapest is around $4.75 and highest is $5.75...almost $6 there! So for milk teas、it's like a 3 stars. Service wise、I got a nice greeting walking in. The place is small but pretty clean/has a simple design. It's located next to Starbucks and parking isn't too hard. Overall、it's ok. The colorful teas are quite good but it's just overpriced. My friends have been coming here quite often so I decided to finally check it out since it's literally across the street from my boyfriend's house. My friends usually get the fruit teas but since I'm more of a milk tea fan, I decided I'd just go with what I know. I got the rooibos milk tea with soy milk. I like that they offer almond or soy milk as alternatives at no extra charge :) I got regular sweetness (75%) because I wanted to taste the drink on the stores recommended terms to give it a fair review. However unfortunately, I was disappointed. The tea itself was pretty bland and had a bitter aftertaste. For $5.25.... definitely not worth it. Sharetea has better tea and is cheaper hahah. My boyfriend got the honey oolong tea with sea salt. He also said it was not worth $5 and would rather have got the sea salt jasmine tea from 85 degrees bakery instead. They offered samples of the earl grey cream and rose milk tea. The earl grey cream was actually decent but the rose milk tea was by far the worst thing I drank out of the 4 things I tried from here :/ it was super watered down and tasted extremely artificial. They also gave me a sample of their honey boba and it also didn't give me a good impression. It wasn't chewy and clumped together but the honey flavor was okay! Overall, not impressed and most likely will not come back. Maybe because they're new they're still working on perfecting everything? Or maybe just don't get the milk teas haha their fruit teas or custom teas seem to be something more worth giving a shot. read more

It's located in the Cypress Village shopping complex, exactly where Juice It Up used to be [next to Starbucks]. It has private parking lot, so there is ample amount of parking space. Redstraw provides indoor as well as outdoor seating options. Really minimal and modern style decor. I ordered Thai Sea Salt Cream tea and Coffee Sea Salt Cream [both iced and both with boba]. It took them 35 minutes to make since they brewed it in front of me and I could see all the ingredients being used. I appreciated it when they asked for the percent of sweetness I would want in my coffee: 25%, 50%, 75% or 100%. Redstraw only provides one size for all the items on their menu. Personally, compared to the quantity one gets I believer it's overpriced. read more

We were next door getting some ice cream and I saw a bunch of people going into this boba shop. So we decided to check it out even though we just had ice cream. It was actually quite busy with a lot of people bustling around with a generous amount of seating inside and outside. Their menu had a variety of milk teas, fruity tea, and a customized section. We decided to get the watermelon rose mojito and the french daisy. The watermelon rose mojito was very bland and subtle. I think the rose flavor really threw me off and the description said it had strawberries inside but I didnt taste any. The french daisy was a little bit better. It tasted more like a lemonade. You could really taste the jasmine green tea and they actually put a real lemon inside. It was probably 75% sweet which is ok. Overall, I didn't enjoy the watermelon mojito at all and the french daisy was alright. Each drink was around $5.25. Our total came out to be around $11 for 2 drinks....and this didn't include any add on. And they only had 1 size....which wasn't the big kind either. I personally think $5 for any kind of boba drink is just unnecessary. Pretty sure this place is over hyped because they're one of the few that actually uses real tea in their drinks. read more

Redstraw is located where the old Juice It Up used to be, next to Mokkoji and Pho Ha Noi, in the Cypress Village. In a large plaza, so no need to fight for parking spots. Though, it's about to get lit in this corner once the Cauldron opens up as well. Aesthetic: If Glossier and Blue Bottle Coffee had a lovechild. There's a lot of urban outfitter looking chairs and tables (3 for now). Plenty of outlets and maybe more chairs will be added since there seems to be an empty space next to the bathroom? Onto the drinks: Redstraw Milk Tea (2/5): They use a black tea base similar to English breakfast tea, so it's darker than classic milk teas. Weak strength tea. Flavor profile is cheap and can easily be made at home. I ordered less sweet (=50% sugar). Their milk teas are on the less sweet side compared to their fruit teas, so 100% sweetness is okay for people who don't like overly sugary teas. They use real milk. Boba (3/5): Not enough added to cup (about an inch). Other reviewers seem to have differing amounts in their cup. Redstraw needs to do some boba quality control before they send their drinks out. Outside is a little too soft and sticks to teeth. The balls are cooked unevenly. Some are soft all the way through, while others have a core that is still raw. Lightly sweetened. Was included in the soft opening price (Normally it's 50 cents extra). Sampled: Honey Oolong Milk Tea (4/5): The oolong is stronger than the other milk teas I tried here. Medium strength tea and normal sweetness level is perfect. Jasmine Milk Tea (3/5): Weak tea strength. Not as aromatic as I would like because they add quite a bit of milk. Rose Garden (4/5): It's a little too sweet for me. But, I can taste the jasmine tea underlying the lychee+rose. It's not too artificial. Refreshing and light instead of perfume/soap-like. Didn't see real fruit, so they use syrup. Overall: A boba place that focuses on artisan teas is right up my alley. Tea is weaker than Omomo's, even though they are about the same price point. I appreciate that they don't use powder and use organic ingredients. I love Redstraw for their cocktail-inspired drinks and shorter line compared to other boba places. The atmosphere is more casual and intimate just because you don't feel rushed when ordering. Drinks are a little on the sweet side, since I don't think you can adjust the sugar levels. I usually end up not finishing the entire drink in day. (3.5 stars) After initially wanting to go to a different boba shop that we found out closed earlier than expected, we heard about this new place and decided to give it a try. Small corner shop that has few seating inside, and a shared seating area space outside. Immediately after walking in, I noticed the high prices for the drinks. They range from $4.50 - $5.75, which is pretty absurd in comparison to other shops. Their drink selection did look interesting, however, so I thought maybe the prices would be justified. Our group got Honest Guy, Arnold Palmer, Strawberry Jasmine, Rose Garden, Redstraw Milk Tea, and Earl Grey Creme. Arnold Palmer was probably the best - although it being only black tea and lemon mixed together, we could probably make this ourselves. Rose Garden was pretty good with the taste of lychee coming out just the right amount. Honest Guy was nice as well, but the flavors of the pineapple juice as well as cherry were a bit too faint to really enjoy anything. Strawberry Jasmine was pretty good, but I prefer Omomo's Strawberry Green Tea instead. And now what cost them a few points - their Milk Tea and Earl Grey Creme tasted very artificial and fake. Really not sure if its their "Organic Milk" that they use, or as for the Earl Grey Creme the French Vanilla flavor is simply just overwhelmingly fake. Definitely would not recommend these two drinks. Red Straw seems like one of those boba shops where their fruit teas are the things to go for - at least from my friends' and my experience.
