I recently started coming back to Redwood Cafe for the open mic night, and I'm really glad I did! On a whim I was invited, and have come here in the past for breakfast or their AMAZING fresh juices, and was always pleased but not impressed with the place. The location is the best, and the staff is always really friendly and great to talk with. They have an expanded menu, when I was there last I ordered the butternut squash ravioli with a Hefe and boy was I unprepared for it! The ravioli was perfectly cooked, not too squishy, and the sauce over it, unbelievable! It came with two slices of thickly toasted garlic bread with huge chunks of garlic and an insane amount of cheese melted on top. Next time I go here, I'm just going to order garlic bread and ravioli sauce and be a fatty, because it's so good. On Thursdays they have beer specials, and their beer selection on tap is really great, quite a variety of local brews and wines. The open mic is always a fun time, with host Max Vogel, and the local talent of Cotati and surrounding areas. On Fridays they have guest bands, and they also have a quaint and peaceful beer garden. I'm super glad they're bumping up their food and events, because this place is prime real estate for a place to go and meet up with friends, and spend some time enjoying what Sonoma County is known for: microbrews, wines, and great people. read more

This place had great customer service! I order the Spicy Shrimp wrap and a blueberry scone. The Scone was amazing especially since I asked them to warm it for me. I've had many visits here, and they all have been pretty average. Their prices are relatively fair for a location like this one. It's not necessarily my type of restaurant based on the menu because I feel the food could be a little more tasty. What I do enjoy food wise are their baked goods. They definitely satisfy my sweet cravings! What I also enjoy is their location because it allows for outside seating. Their interior is nice as well. Works of local artists decorate the walls, and it's not too big that you feel lost inside. It's an intimate setting that makes for a nice comfortable visit. Not too much of a restaurant or cafe for me, but if you're into events like music and shows this is a good place to visit. I went to college in nearby Rohnert Park, and managed to avoid this place completely until several years past graduation when I went with a friend and my then-girlfriend. Given that said girlfriend and I broke up soon afterwards, I didn't feel much motive to return. But time heals such memories, I wound up with a woman who loves me and we're still together many years later. As such, the same friend from earlier, as well as a different friend and his son, wound up eating dinner one night a couple of weeks ago. The Redwood Café did a good job in conjuring up would-be memories of what college was like (actually, no, we focused way too much on fast food), but be that as it may, it served as a good preview for the kid. The menu is voluminous - given that I had my share of recent hamburgers, I opted for the homemade Crab Cake Sandwich, along with a Racer IPA (as much as I desired Stone Brewing's Double Bastard Ale, I was the driver, so I made the proper decision in going for something not quite as strong). The menu also features a page for Bodybuilding Meals, which seems to violate every principle of a college town café, but whatever floats your boat (try the Barbour's Bicep Bowl and get back to me). Meal was sumptuous, yet I still desired dessert, so I had a piece of their berry pie, and had my hunger needs met for the rest of the day, which given that it was 7PM, not terribly remarkable. Television featured a game between the A's and Astros, but I'd guess they'd soon switch to Cubs/Giants (SF won in 11). It also featured what I hope were local musicians, given that their talent level suggested one shouldn't travel more than 100 feet to see them. Give them credit for trying, though. All in all, the place had a great vibe, and made me happy to be a full functioning human being. read more

Cotati is a funky, earthy little town right next to Rohnert Park and complements RP quite a bit. Redwood Cafe is a Cotati fixture and after a long hiatus of not frequenting it, I've gone back a few times for breakfast. For me, Redwood Cafe overall is between 3 1/2 stars and 4 stars so I decided on 4 stars because I think the food is four stars. I love their Cajun Scramble with gluten free toast, freshly juiced variety of vegetable and fruit juices, smoothies, coffee drinks, freshly baked goods, and most of their menu. They're food has always been very good! What has improved is the decor and the store front. The tired old walls have been spruced up with new paint and most wall surfaces are now hanging art for sale, like a gallery. There is a mini-stage near the front door for live performances. The outside tables are very nice when weather permits. Redwood Cafe is kind of a hippie joint, like most of Cotati, and honestly, I am pretty comfortable in hippie joints. Their food is very healthy as Redwood is intended to be a health food restaurant to some degree I believe. Redwood Cafe Coffee House & Grill is certainly not upscale like Bacchus in Rohnert Park, or as comfy as Marvin's up the street in Cotati, but it is kinda cool, the food is very delicious, and when I'm in the mood---it works for me. I'm hopefully not giving this place five stars because of nostalgia reasons, this was the place to go to for college. Nevertheless, I'm still a fan of this. It supports creative students and has a fine kitchen. I recommend the quesadilla with avocado. I always grab myself a pint of IPA whenever I'm there. The interior is all wood practically, and has nice kids section in the back for your little one. They don't mind if you stay till closing. I have to say, for a sleepy little town this place is a great option. It is casual and has a variety of options for EVERYONE; they recently added gluten free waffles and pancakes to the menu. My BFF has a gluten allergy so anytime we can go out to breakfast together and she is able to order something other than eggs, potatoes and bacon for breakfast is a win. It is amazing how we can live in such a progressive county and still not have many gluten friendly options. I want to congratulate and thank the Redwood Cafe for making the nod to the gluten free population. It is the little things that make us happy. Great option for breakfast. Their food is great, not super fatty. The serving portions are perfect, not too big and not too small. I had a veggie omelet with sourdough toast. The omelet was cooked perfectly and the veggies were fresh and not mushy like they sometimes get when over cooked. The sourdough toasted tased like fresh made bread and they used real butter and they buttered the entire toast. A pet peeve of mine when restaurants put only a dab of butter in the middle. I wish they had offered hash browns or a fruit bowl instead of the potatoes, that said the potatoes were good, just a little too much carb for me. Their smoothie tasted great and they not only gave me my cup of smoothie but they also filled a smaller cup with the leftover smoothie and gave it to us. This is such a cheerful, friendly place. The food is good, there's a fantastic range of drinks, and the dining room is gorgeous, with stained wood walls and furniture, and paintings by local artists on display. I've had several business meetings here. The ambience is upscale, and the staff is welcoming to small groups that want to work at one of the tables for a couple hours. read more

Redwood Cafe has a lot of things going for it. For instance, the menu alone boasts a lot of different kinds of food, including breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. There are beers on tap (although none of my favourites included among them) and there's ample seating both inside and out. There is also a 20% discount for SSU and JC students. Unfortunately, the staff never asks about student IDs so it's up to the customer to remember to mention it and show an ID. And even with the 20% discount, it's still kind of expensive. Luckily, the meals are always super filling (usually I make two meals out of whatever I order), but it's still a lot to pay for a meal with a beer. I've had the Falafel Wrap a few times and found it relatively lackluster in taste. Not bad, but not amazing. However, I just recently switched up things, opting for the Garden Wrap (no mushrooms) and it hit the spot. The fries are always fresh and delicious as well. While Redwood Cafe isn't a destination for me, it's a nice place to hang out from time-to-time that is near campus and has just about something for everyone. read more

I order the ACE BLT sandwich and the bread was too dry. There was also too much lettuce and it was bland. The bacon wasn't crispy and it didn't taste fresh. The blueberry scone was so dry I had to take sips of water to save myself from choking. The brownie was very fudgy like a flourless chocolate cake not a brownie. Last but not least, the pancakes were flat and tasted like they were made straight from a box. I was visiting the area and won't go back but if I lived there, I wouldn't go back. One of my favorite places to go but lately I feel the Cleanliness of this restaurant has deteriorated. It was very dirty around the table where we were eating and the floor had food stuck on it That Looked very old and not recently fallen food. Also the bathrooms were disgusting. There was P all over the floor and the toilet paper was on the floor as well. The girl served my meal on a plate that was dirty and I sent it back. I do enjoy the food here very much so I sure hope they do something about that. Also they have had a bit of turnover with the cashiers and some of them are extremely friendly while others are not. It depends who you get. I will continue to come back here but if this cleanliness issue prevails and I'm going to have to stop because I'm afraid there might be a health risk if I keep eating here. I finally found a place with a great breakfast burrito. I have been searching for a place that served a good breakfast burrito in Norcal ever since I had one in SoCal. It has been difficult, but I finally found it here and it was delicious. Great breakfast menu too, which is served all day. If you like coffee and enjoy eating breakfast then this is a great spot for you. If you like beer with your food then this is good too since they have some drinks on tap. Def. coming back here. We'd been here twice before and my wife likes the breakfast here. I think the breakfast is just so-so. So we came back for dinner last evening (because our favorite restaurant nearby was unexpectedly closed). My wife had the rockfish and mango salsa wrap. Fish was not very warm and it was tasteless and mushy. Mango salsa was okay. Rice filler was a waste. My wife pulled the fish out, ate that and left most of the wrap and filler behind. The big reason I give this place but one star is because of the lack of knowledge on the part of the front staff (or maybe it was an outright lie?). Although my first choice was a teriyaki chicken bowl, I wanted to try their fish and chips. So I asked the two gentleman at the counter (there's no table service here) if the fish and chips were made with fresh-battered fish, not frozen. They both said yes. To make sure they knew what I was talking about, I asked in another way, "Are they battered here?" They again said yes. Not that I didn't trust them but I wanted to make sure they understood what I was really asking, so I asked a third time "They are actually dipped in batter in the kitchen here before frying, yes?" And again, they nodded their heads. Our plates were brought to the table and I got -- you guessed it -- a plate of commercial frozen-battered fish! Brown, stuck-on tasteless batter and mushy-greasy fish inside. When I was about to go back to the counter to see if they could clarify, my wife said "Let it go." So I did. Sometimes things are so bad, you know the restaurant people know and they've known for a long time and they're not interested in doing anything about it. Hmmmphfff. I ate two pieces (of the four small pieces) and some of the fries. No one came to our table to ask how things were. This place is the essence of Cotati. It's the perfect spot to rendezvous with friends and relax with a cup of coffee. I've hung out for hours just chatting with folks, reading, or communing with my iPad, have never been pressured to "order something or leave." The food is pretty good and you can get free refills of coffee. Wednesday evenings and weekends there is usually live music, and from time to time you can listen to (and watch) local talent, and often musicians from around the Bay Area play here. read more

When you enter, you go straight to the counter and order. Then they give you a number and you find your own table. The food came out pretty quickly even if there were a good amount of people there.
