I went back on a slower day and ordered to-go within the restaurant. This time I had time to view all the artwork that's for sale on the walls and catch a feel for the ambience. The place is so charming and so was the young lady taking my order. I got the garden wrap with a salad and poppy seed dressing, oatmeal raisin cookie and apple pie tart. The wrap was sooo good and so large and stuffed with goodness. The salad was just lettuce but at least it wasn't iceberg. The dressing, I'm not sure it was actually poppy seed, it had more of a vinaigrette taste. The cookie was soft and the apple pie tart was buttery, flaky, tart and scrumptious. So happy I went back and can see myself going back several more times. read more

So wanted to like this place more. I've been here before and perhaps this is just an off day... but I found my breakfast to be thoroughly inedible. Getting any sort of help to get things like a fork, napkin, spoon, etc...even when I directly walked up to the station, was happy to take them out personally, and directly asked gentleman who's manning the station that has all of these things was a joke. I basically had to get them myself and setup our table. Okay...not the best service but things get busy, so I can handle that. But when our food came it was so gross. Potatoes were soggy and not appetizing at all. They didn't taste good. The eggs however were completely COLD. They looked gross and they tasted even worse than they looked. Gave them to my dog and he left them. The final golden moment here was when a HUGE RAT scuttled past our table. Yeah...hard pass on this place. I paid something like $54 for this breakfast...and left a 20% tip. I'm glad I did because hardworking people deserve to be treated well and I know that servers depend on tips... but that 20% tip had NOTHING to do with the actual quality of the food or service because both were pretty bad. read more

Don't be fooled by the look as you walk in the door. I was unimpressed by my initial impression after standing in line, ordering food at register, then finding an open table. This trendy cafe doesn't really cater to a customer service model and feels like a cafeteria. BUT, I was impressed by the food and variety. The Will's Powerfit omelet was delicious and unique. I don't make my way to Cotati too often, but did this morning with a few friends for some brunch at Redwood Cafe. They have indoor and outdoor seating so they're dog friendly, yay! You order in the back and they give you a number. This can be nice if you're with a group and want to put in individual orders and not worry about dealing with the check. I was with three buddies and our food all came out within a few minutes of each other after ordering separately at the counter and we all loved our meal (we each got something different- check out the photos). The service was great. They came out to check on us outside and cleared our dishes when we were finished. Yummy food prepared well. Friendly staff. Very casual place - orderr at the register and seat yourself. I'm not a huge fan oof this at these prices and wish they'd send someoNe around with coffee instead of me having to get up every time. My other issue was the picnic tables inside. They're difficult to navigate sometimes and aren't comfortable. The atmosphere is dark and a bit dingy with filthy - filthy carpets. Why in the world restaurants put in carpets I cant imagine. They smell and make tHe food seem less appetizing. But since the food itself was good and thE servers wEre nice I'll go four stars. I was not impressed with the food or the staff. I waited at my table for the longest time as the waiter kept passing. Once our order came they didn't come to check in on us after that, I ended up going up to the counter to ask for refills myself. The staff was off to the side complaining about personal stuff. It was extremely awkward. There was only 4 other customers so being busy could not be their excuse. So I've been here twice and everything I've tried is incredibly boring and bland. How do you ruin onion rings? I hated them. I want normal onion rings, not skinny red onions with the batter falling off. Even the peanut sauce was bland. But I wouldn't even bother to leave a review until I noticed the "living wage fee." If you want your staff to earn a living wage, pay them a living wage. Or raise your prices so that your proving is transparent. Tacking on a 3% fee when the bill is due that no one would expect is incredibly shady. I have no reason to come back again. read more

Comfortable casual ambience, the food is excellent. You order at the counter, but otherwise the service was welcoming and helpful.

Overpriced. Breakfast was very bland. You're better off eating at home.

Note: The two star rating is purely for the food. Had my meal been any good, I probably would have given it 4-5 stars; service was friendly and helpful and it's a cool, laid-back place to hang out. My visit happened to be on St Patrick's Day. There was a lively Irish band with dancing, and a profusion of corned beef and cabbage being served. I myself ordered the vegetarian club sandwich with a side of fries and a strawberry smoothie. Perhaps these were simply the wrong choices, but I wasn't impressed with any of it. For one thing the prices were outrageous--$5.75 for the smoothie and $11.50 for the food. The smoothie wasn't bad but it wasn't especially good either; the taste was pretty standard and it was a tad watery, which was compounded by the fact that it was poured into a HOT glass that had probably just come from the dishwasher. For the price, I expected better. The sandwich... where do I start? I had expected it to be made with sourdough bread--what club sandwich isn't?--but it was on rough whole wheat which is far from my favorite. I can't complain about the portion size; the thing was massive and I couldn't even finish it, but in all honesty I didn't want to. It was utterly dry and tasteless--exactly the sort of thing all omnivores picture when they think of vegetarian/vegan food! When will restaurants learn that the fact that we don't like meat doesn't mean we don't like sauces and seasonings either?! The only sauce on this whopper was a thin scraping of mayo on one of the numerous slices of bread. Luckily, I was able to doctor it up with some ketchup/mustard/more mayo which made it palatable but still quite uninteresting. The fries were fine. At least *I* liked them... one of my companions thought they tasted like freezer-burnt cardboard. They seemed perfectly normal to me, but I don't often eat them so I'm no expert. I'll probably be back to check out open mic night, but I'll be ordering something simple like a cup of tea or a slice of pie from the cooler. I noticed some very tempting desserts. read more

I have always enjoyed the Redwood Cafe for its location, menu, pleasant ambience, and friendly staff. Prices seem on the high side, but servings are generous fresh and tasty. Wine is available too which is a nice addition with a lunch in the afternoon. As an artist, I very much enjoy viewing the artwork for sale by local artists. There is outdoor dining on warm sunny days which is also pleasant. I recommend it also because there is 2 hour street parking readily available. Easy to order and pay at the counter, and the wait staff brings the entrees to your table immediately as it comes from the kitchen. And, a great assortment of sweet baked confections can be purchased to-go! read more

I absolutely love Redwood Cafe. During this pandemic time you go inside, order ,, yes with a face mask on duh!! The staff also wears face masks and gloves. We must protect those workers that are there for us that have an on the go lifestyle that needs awesome quality food ...fast food is out of the question.. This last visit was a brunch at 2pm, we went inside ordered, and had the choice of an outside back patio or out front table. We sat out front outside in the sun, I had my Blackstone I love so much, and my other 1/2 had a CA Benedict with Avo! They came out with perfect eggs on top for both our meals. We got the Champ) and have a limited, but well versed selection of beers, due to Covid. Lastly, they had some really tempting looking pastries that we passed on. There are outdoor tents, tables and heaters set outside. Service was adequate and accommodating. The food... Eggs Benedict - perfectly poached eggs and thick ham slices. The sauce was creamy and fresh; it could have used a little lemon by my standard, but it was still delicious. Kid's pancake - they were fluffy and came with plenty of butter, maple syrup and powdered sugar. Beet Salad - The greens were fresh and not over dressed by the vinaigrette. Ordered a philly cheese steak here today and received a sandwich with one thick slab of grilled meat, not cut. The quality of the meat on the sandwich was very bad. Full of gristle and extremely tough. I requested a refund for the $20.26 item ($18.50 + $1.76 tax). They refused a full refund and only provided $15, stating they had to keep 30% for a third party fee. Staff was reluctant to provide any refund at all. I have ordered here frequently in the past. This spot used to be great but prices have gone up as quality has gone down. read more

This place is an inviting and community oriented establishment where you can "come as you are". The food on the menu is totally varied and there's room for adjustment if you're allergic or do not like certain items.
