German beers and food, with excellent service, To start off the German experience starts as you enter, you are greeted with - "Willkommen" which means Welcome, the bar is long and has full service , inside of the restaurant is well planned with many tables that look like log benches, also have outdoor seating, the waitresses are dressed up in a dirndl and really gives the Native German vibes, the menu items are listed in German with English descriptions of course. Special mention is for the quantities of Beer that you can order and at a reasonable price. A liter or half liter. Huge Bavarian pretzel tastes so good must try, also the sausage platter with pickles is a good combination with your choice of beer. Pains me to say this as this is my favorite place to watch a Germany match - but just like Die Mannschaft, what worked in 2014 isn't necessarily working anymore. The problem with the place and the lower stars for my review is their technology (TVs / Projectors) are still from 2014 and aren't HD and look like crap. Sound isn't great either (I saw the waiter turn the volume up to 100 - full blast, and still couldn't understand the commentary at times). Adding to the fact that the TV's are mounted pretty high up above the bar (and regular definition - not HD), the picture isn't the best. Atmosphere is solid for Germany matches and fans celebrate together, so there's that. But really wish they would upgrade their TVs / Projectors / Sound system properly. The beers are great (albeit quite pricey) - the food is decent and the options are plenty for authentic German choices you might find in Germany (but the currywurst was just ok to be honest - I was expecting better). This place has great food and beer. My kind of place. Now, add to that this place has Jack. Jack is the man! I wasn't sure if this gentleman is the owner with the level of passion he brings or he's just that dedicated to his role. Either way, Jack made us feel very welcome, he was very knowledgeable about the beers and he was invested in making sure we had the best experience. Hats off to Jack. We already make it a point to come visit each time we are in NYC, but now it'll be to hopefully get the Jack experience again. read more

Perfect place to celebrate our son's 21st birthday. The people were fantastic. The food was great. The drinks were reasonable and served with great fanfare- get the ski shot. Kudos to the manager and his team. They took good care of us. We've been here several times as a family, but this was a particularly special evening and they really delivered. Came here on a weekday for lunch. Large hall was empty except one other family. Two female servers present dressed in traditional clothing cut to show cleavage, one was more friendly than the other (our primary server). Took a bit long to get our food, especially considering the lack of diners. Food was hit and miss. Cheeseburger and fries, bratwurst were good. The curry wurst was so-so. Wasn't crazy about the tomato curry sauce on top. The red cabbage and sauerkraut were a bit too sour for me and tasted the same without much flavor other than the sour taste. Bratwurst plate portion was pretty big with two large sausages. The lager was pretty good and glass was huge for a small. I am German and the food is appalling! I mean sth as simple as a curry wurst is not rocket science! But they somehow managed to make it taste disgusting! The bratwurst was cut up and then fried and the "curry sauce" was a bad ketchup with one swig of curry powder on it! The sausage is served without anything else (no roll)????! We had just arrived in NYC and this spot was next to our hotel. It was lunch time. We were starved. So we are here. It was pretty dead. Seems like more of a night time spot. Definitely was busier when we walked past later. Their menu at lunch isn't super extensive but adequate. Not surprising, lots of sausages! Our food was ok. It took a LONG time to get it. The music was fairly loud. The Reuben was ok but I wouldn't get it here again. It was super skimpy on the meat. My co-traveler's sandwich was quite generous. The place was super clean. They had a huge beer selection. I think if you were looking for sort of a 'German beer garden' experience that's what this is. My wife and I were there on Sat Night Sept 14 for Dinner. Food was good and Beer was what we expected. Why this review? We let the server take our CC to start a tab. Did not think much about it until overnight our CC started getting Fraud transactions trying to send money oversee. Lucky our CC Vendor catch this and flagged our card. This was the one and only time our CC was out of our possession while in NY. If you go, do not allow staff take your CC to open a tab. We have our receipt and know who served us. Great location, service and beer / food options. Reason for 3 star is due to bad experience today on champions league final where multiple TVs were 1 minute ahead vs others and messed up the experience for a lot of people. It is obviously not fun to watch the game when you have views of what will happen in 1 minute!! When I flag this to the manager and was hoping for a solution, Philip who states is the manager, did not even look at me in the face and went through a big disagreement without considering any customer experience. Such a bad interaction on such a good day. I do not think he should be in that position nor the service / hospitality if he cannot manage customer issues. If he wants to, hopefully learns from this experience to have longevity in the industry. I have debated if I should write this or not and decided to write for a hope that it will make a positive output. read more

A classic German bar with large communal tables and a decent list of German beers on the tap, with sizes available from a German pint (330ml) to a liter mug. Got the mixed bratwrust plate with potato pancakes. The sausages are delicious, rich flavors within and well cooked with a crispy skin. The potato pancakes are slightly overcooked but still tasty. Would definitely be a great place to go when there are big sports matches. read more

Visited there last night - 0.5 litter beers are $12-$13. The beer I had did not taste like beer. Tasted as if someone poured water. Chicken schnitzel was really good, better than some restaurants. Portion was large. I highly recommend it. Food and drinks came out quick. Staff keep checking if we need anything. Main reason we came here is to watch the World Cup football (ok it's soccer). They have two large screens and some small screens. We watched the first half while listening to German music - surreal experience! After asking twice, they played the commentary for the second half. I may come back here to get some German experience again but not to watch sports. read more

This German restaurant has a great ambiance, it really does feel like a little slice of Germany, from the decor to the music. We came on a Thursday around 9pm, and there was no wait and plenty of space, which was nice. Unfortunately, they were already out of pretzels, which was disappointing. The food was flavorful. The schnitzel was crispy and severed with a tasty cucumber salad and fries. We also got the sampler of bratwurst it came with three different types all of which were all delicious with the mustard provided, red cabbage and sauerkraut. I had an Oktoberfest- there are varieties. The severer asked me about my beer drinking preferences and helped me select one. I would have sympathy if it was packed but I went on a weekday and the place was 33% full at most. Problems: 1. Server forgot our orders 2. When we got to place orders, server placed order for items that they were out of, and the manager apologized one hour later - offering a free beer 3. When the server gave us the check she told us that she over charged but didn't know how so she wanted me to negotiate the receipt 4. Two good things were light beer and pretzel. Chicken Schnitzel was small, chicken inside was tasteless and dry, crust thick, hard to cut. It was worst schnitzel I have ever tried. Apple strudel was even worse: strudel was hot, but apples were cut as 1' cubes and still raw, dough almost raw, not spiced, not eatable. I can cook, so stopped eating it after first bite. This place was jumping the night before when I checked into the hotel so I decided to try them out for dinner. The menu has lots of traditional German food that looked amazing. Since I wanted to play it safe and not chance German food + a two hour drive, I played it safe with the bacon cheese burger. It was good for what it was, but it seemed like a frozen burger with fries traight out of the bag. A pretzel w/ cheese was grabbed for the road home, it looked too good to pass up. The place looked really clean. Be prepared to sit with others, German Family style. The staff, none of which looked German were very friendly and attentive. There's really nothing authentic about this place that's advertised as a "German Biergarten" other than the fact that they happen to sell German beer, but at insanely inflated prices. I ordered the Berliner currywurst and it was ready just a hotdog with tomato ketchup and curry powder poured on top. Nothing that even slightly resembled any currywurst I ever had in Berlin. And you'd think that a German Beer Hall might have some German music playing, but not the case. They blasted hip-hop the entire time. This massive beer hall gets loud and rowdy, but it's one of my favorite group drinking spots because the food's also pretty decent. All hail the massive Oktoberfest pretzel with mustard and beer cheese! The sausage platters are pretty hefty and satisfying as well (I'm partial to the cheese-filled Käse-Wurst, and all the platters come with potato salad, sweet and sour red cabbage, and sauerkraut), but the giant pretzel's where it's at. Easily enough to share with a small classroom of people even if you're stuffing your face. That and a liter of deliciously sweet and refreshing Schöfferhofer grapefruit beer are enough to make me a happy camper. I got the two-liter Das Boot once. All it'll do is hurtle you toward the bathroom every half an hour. If you want the same cute photo-worthy glass mug minus the damage to your bladder, get the little boot. They also have shotskis, which are a fun one-and-done experience, but I'll take the grapefruit beer any day. read more

I've come here once or twice a month for about 4 years, but after last night I'm done. The new manager the last year or so is awful. Let me note that I'm rarely a difficult customer - even when my order is incorrect somehow I typically just deal with it unless it's rendered inedible for me. I tip well (I tipped $60 on this $240 bill because I assume it's not the waitresses' fault) and I almost never give the staff a hard time - restaurant business is tough. I brought a group of 6 - 8 people for food and drinks. When they said it was last call for food (around 8 PM btw), without a menu handy, I asked for a giant pretzel, as I'd shared their giant Oktoberfest pretzel among a group of 4 many times in the past. They said they were out of that but had regular pretzels, so, expecting it to be a normal 3 to 4 inch wide pretzel, I ordered four. It turns out there is an off the menu pretzel that's much bigger than the giant Oktoberfest pretzel, that's the one they were out of, and "regular pretzel" means giant Oktoberfest pretzel, so four huge 8 to 10 inch wide pretzels arrived at the table costing $13 each (including the Obatzda I added on). I told the waitress these are the giant pretzels I wanted in the first place, "regular pretzels" are much smaller, 4 of these are way too much, and asked to send three of them back. She declined so I politely asked for the manager. I explained to the manager that these are not regular pretzels (later they appeared on the receipt as "okto pretzels") and asked to send back the extras, and he refused as well. He then proceeded to argue with me for several minutes about it. I asked him if he recognized me as a regular and he said yes, so I asked him why he's giving me such a hard time over a few pretzels when I'm there often (and I think I've never sent back food there before that day - I almost never do that in general) and bring groups with me. I told him I was not coming back if he didn't comp the three extra pretzels and he kept repeating the same thing: "what are we supposed to do with them, we can't serve them to someone else". This guy missed day 1 of restaurant manager school where they explain that a small concession is worth it to retain a regular customer who brings groups of people in all the time. Even worse, when I eventually gave up arguing with him and I told him "fine, I'm done discussing this, I just won't be back here again" and turned back to my party, he continued pressing the issue (still explaining to me why it's unreasonable to return an item when you get something other than what you thought you ordered). I had to tell him at least three times "really, I don't want to talk about this anymore" and "please leave me alone" before he finally left the table. I hope the $40 in pretzels was worth losing my usual weekend group of 4 every few weeks, and groups like this one from my office (who were also there for the first time thanks to me) a 15 minute walk away - considering the restaurant is large and absolutely never full (with the exception of Euro/World Cup games apparently). I had looked forward to bringing the group of coworkers back regularly now that we're spending some time in the office again, but apparently my business is not worth that much to this guy. read more
