$125 fee just to drive out to the property. They were supposed to do a plumbing test for a house we're under contract with, but due to a miscommunication with the seller, no one was home. A fee for time and travel expenses is understandable, but this is just absurd. read more

My parents gas water heater went out yesterday, and reliant happened to be next door to replace a water heater that ended up just being a pilot light out. They came over was given a proposal of $4248.30. My parents are senior citizens and disabled vets living on a very fixed income. The water heater came from Home Depot and was $719. Labor was 2.5 hours. This means it was 1,411.72 an hour for labor, for a total of 3,529.30 in labor. End result was great, no complaints with that, but the pricing was way off and not up to par with national averages as Max has stated in his response to others who have said the same. Home Depot would've come to install the water heater and they would've of been looking at $2,669 + tax. I will be calling the office at some point to discuss this. I am in the home improvement industry and this is price gouging at its best. Shame on you for taking advantage of the elderly. read more

I have used Reliant a few times over the past 5 years for plumbing needs both at my residence and rental property. I always was pleased with their service but always thought prices were higher than other plumbers. When we had a pipe burst during the week of the Big Freeze, I called Reliant based on past experience. After the plumber assessed the issue, his estimate was for $897 to fix one burst pipe leak. Because I knew that it would be weeks before I got another plumber out to fix the leak, I agreed to the estimate. My mistake for not negotiating on the spot. The job took about 30 minutes which included turning water back on to the house and checking for any other obvious leaks. I called and emailed Reliant multiple times to discuss the charge. It took several tries to get a reply. I finally had a conversation with the office manager who was not able to answer why the charge was so high. She was authorized to offer a $200 refund. I asked to have a conversation with someone that could answer my question about the reason for such a high charge. I finally did get this call, but his answer was simply, "that is what we charge for that job". When I brought up that it is way out of line in comparison to other plumbers, he gave me bs about how not all plumbers charge the same thing. True. But there are averages and Reliant's charge for this job is 2-3 times higher than every average I have found both online and in talking to others who have had comparable repairs made. I am left feeling that Reliant took advantage of the situation and way over-charged. I will not use this company in the future. I don't recommend anyone to use this company unless you enjoy paying a lot more for a job that others can do just as well if not better at a more reasonable rate. read more

Very happy with the service. I had Steven from Reliant come out to fix a faulty bathtub faucet, as well as a broken toilet. Service was prompt & friendly. Triage & repairs were done quickly. Steven communicated to me what the nature of the problem was and how it'd be fixed very clearly. I had a strange issue with the bathtub faucet come up late in the afternoon after Steven made the repairs. I called Reliant and Steven was back out the next day to take a look. Of course, the issue was gone when he showed up but he still Steven was prompt at every appointment. So prompt, in fact, that he had to wait 15+ minutes twice for me to come to the door. Would have been perfectly understandable if he had just left but he waited since I was clearly home. That IMO is good service. I've never needed a plumber before. and when I did it was kind of an emergency so I can't speak to their pricing relative to other plumbers. As with any contractor, you should always get multiple quotes to ensure you get the best price. The toilet replacement & installation I had seemed pretty pricey but because I didn't have the luxury really of shopping around I don't feel that it's right to bump down their rating without definitive evidence the price was too high. read more

Paid reviews. Temper the value you place in the ratings and reviews posted for this company. Was quoted an extremely high price to replace a 50 gallon gas water heater (quote was over $3K). This is a 2-3 hour job max and there is about $800 in material costs (heater, expansion tank, drain pan, valves, etc) You can do the math on the labor and profit margin they are putting into their quotes. When I expressed my disbelief in the quote, I was told they would take $100 off if I gave a good rating on google. I declined. I then was advised that the fee for the assessment would be $89 but that could be waived if I were to leave a good review on google. I was told it could be as simple as "Mac was good to talk to." I declined as the only truthful review I could give was how obscene the quote was and how shocked I was at the tactics to get reviews. I got the job done the following day for $1K less. read more

While I appreciate Reliant Plumbing being able to come out within a week (Radiant Plumbings first available was November 18th) for over $400 to replace a fill valve that according to Google costs $8-$30 is a little extreme. I can't deny I agreed to the price and paid an extra $200 to have a "distressed" hose replaced to ensure my only bathroom would remain functioning, but it does raise questions about the ethicacy of a company that is collecting AT LEAST $500 in labor for less than an hour of work. If you have a gmail account and spend under $500 and write a google review you get $25 off... spend over $500 and get $50 off... great deal for gmail users! read more

The service was fine but they chargef me an amazing $750 to change out a single toilet! I provided the toilet!! I called another large company afterwards and found that the going price was under $400. They will tell you the price before they start but even if you decline their offer, you will still have to pay them for providing a quote. Had Reliant Plumbing out to do the routine flush of my Rinnai Tankless water heater. The tech told me it would be $576.00 for the service and would take about 40 min. I told him I thought that was very high - he offered to do it for $500.00 - still seemed very high but I agreed. While he was working I went on line (I should have done this prior) and found many other local cos. do this for $200. - 250. - Ok so that's on me for not doing my homework. More to this story.... Several days later my water heater stopped working!!!! Tried calling, had to leave a message, got a call back an hour or so later - it's now 10am - and was told they did not have a tech available till the following day - even tho I now have no hot water. The next day a different tech arrived - removed the water heater cover and found several components leaking. Being the smart feller that I am it was obvious that this had been leaking for sometime and was not due to the maintenance they did a few days prior. The Tech said he would work on finding the parts and report back by end of day. After calling them for an update I was told the parts were not available for 6 weeks and it will be "cheeper & faster" to just replace it. Their quote was for $7,800.- way higher than anybody else I checked with. Anyway, I was able to find the parts myself - $180.00 total - shipped overnight. I was not gonna let Reliant Plumbing rip me off 2 times in one week!!! read more

The tankless water heater at our Austin place finally died overnight. We scrambled to find somebody who'd be able to replace it quickly (many plumbers book out days in advance or even weeks -- sometimes it takes days for somebody to even return your call -- and I get it, home services & contractors in Austin are very busy). Reliant answered promptly, showed up that day & replaced it. I would bet they wouldn't be the cheapest, if I had gotten multiple bids and scheduled the work out a few weeks in advance, but they showed up same-day and did good quality work. Having a business model where you can provide near-immediate service does cost more, since you have to pay for enough folks to be open and available instantly, rather than book all your people up in advance. I'd use them again, esp for urgent issues. read more

A while back I had called and tried to schedule an appointment and she was the most rude, unprofessional employee Ive ever had the misfortune of talking to. I didn't think one person could make me not want to use a company but I will never give reliant another chance after having her speak to me the way she did. I always choose to support local or mom and pop companies but its people like that who make me never want to do it again. This Saturday afternoon while I was away from home, the city shut off my water due to a 4gpm flow. I called about 10 open plumbers, one after another, to see if any could help. Only two answered the phone, and none called me back after I left a message. One that answered the phone was out of town and told me to call back Monday if I still had a problem (fair enough). Reliant was the other that answered their phone. They told me that they had someone already out that might be able to stop by, but they had to check. They said they would call me back within ten minutes, which they did, telling me the plumber could stop by in about an hour. He showed up on time, was friendly, and took a look. He quickly saw the leak was in the irrigation system, but told me unfortunately they are not licensed to work on those. He showed me the leak and told me the kind of license I need to look for to get the job done. I asked if I owed him anything for the inspection and he said "no charge". Though they didn't do any actual plumbing work for me, I just wanted to give them a good rating for being responsive, on time, and helpful. Thanks! read more

Way overpriced to snake a drain! I felt trapped on a Friday afternoon at 4pm into letting them do the work since I would be paying $89 already for the house call. I asked if the technician could try plunging the drain first, but he seemed put out and said he didnt even carry a plunger on his truck. Really? Won't be calling again. read more

We called Reliant to replace a faulty old gate valve. They came on Saturday morning and swapped it out - 1 hr of labor and maybe $50 in parts. We were charged $1000 (!!!!!!!) because they knew we had guests in town and needed it done. I am a caterer in Austin who is cooking 1,500 meals average for the National Guard who are going down to Houston and the coast to serve, rescue and help the people who have been devastated. We needed Same Day plumbing service in order to install the gas lines for two new ovens. Without these ovens we could not keep up with the growing demands of feeding our Great Troops on a daily basis. Max was awesome. He had to work late into the evening to get it all installed. He was cheerful and was a pleasure to have working on our equipment. Max not only installed the gas lines that we needed, he also helped us move and switch out the kitchen equipment to make room for the new ovens. Company was hired to install a new dishwasher, among other small jobs. Regarding the Dishwasher, the "plumber" that came out charged us for the quick install @ $1000. But, since the company is not allowed to do electrical hookups, it was installed and mounted to our cabinetry without connecting it to the electricity. So, now we've paid over a grand for an install which will have to be removed and the RE-INSTALLED in order to hook the appliance up. I have several more stories like this concerning this "company". They upsell like used car salesmen, have sub-par understanding of basic plumbing principles, leave a mess, and triple-charge for the "service". DO NOT HIRE. read more

We had a problem with gas that could have been dangerous. We contacted Reliant based on their hours of a avaialbility. We ended up paying about 3x what the job should have cost. We basically were backed into a corner by the potential danger, and Reliant gouged us for our money. I suppose its worth it to them: Overcharging people may not seem like doing God's work, so I hope they donate the excess money they take from me and other customers to their church. read more

Highly recommend working with Davis! We called Reliant because of a leaky water heater. We were concerned about taking on a large project because we are moving in a few weeks. I got a text letting me know Davis was on his way with a picture and a little bio (nice touch!) and he was right on time at the beginning of our scheduled window. He looked at the water heater, listened to me explain our situation, and outlined our options. He went through 3 options extensively and gave me his recommendation which was much appreciated. Davis took the time to listen to my questions and give honest answers. I did not feel swindled or taken advantage of whatsoever. Great communication prior to appointment with emails and text messages. Even called on Sat am to offer earlier appt if I wanted. McKinley (plumber) came out and on-time. I called these dudes to help diagnose a water leak that skyrocketed our monthly usage to 50,000 gallons each month. John called me back and explained their process, what a water audit was, what it could find, and what it couldn't. He was very thorough and ensured my expectations were set for the service call. I had them come out at 10am the next day. At around 9am I get a call from Reliant saying one of the jobs got larger and they would have to push the appointment back to 3. I agreed, as I was staying home that day anyway. John and Hunter showed up 30 minutes early and began the audit. They were friendly, personable, and knowledgeable. Unfortunately (or fortunately) they did not find any leaks in the slab after about 30 minutes of diagnosing. They laid out some next steps for me such as check irrigation, or check the meter is operating correctly. As they were going room to room to turn the water back on and go, they notice a slight ripple in one of the toilets. The damned thing never stopped running because the flap was warped, and it was so quiet that it went unnoticed! We're thankful that they did a bang up job at a reasonable price. Horrible overall experience after the repair. Office Admin was A+, Plumber A+, Pricing F, Superintendent communications and client focus F, when I requested to speak to the owners, 3 times, last request was answered with " Owners will not call you for this!" Very arrogant and after doing some research 2-3 times more expensive than several local plumbers. Would never recommend or use again. I've used a lot of the local Plumbers with various projects, all with good experiences for most. Due to my usual plumbers schedule I called Reliant because of their good reviews. For this job all we needed was to install a simple bathroom faucet. The old faucet had even been removed. They showed up and quoted me $320 to install that faucet. Because I had to have it in that day I was forced to pay it. FYI that is a sub-1 hour job, I called 3 plumbers and confirmed that it should have cost between $150-$180. I tried to call the the office manager to discuss and they said it sounded high and I should check with the technician because they determine the pricing. Then when I talked to the technician he said he couldn't determine price, its up to the office/supervisor. Talk about a run around. The work with good, scheduling good but pricing ridiculous. There's plenty of great plumbers out there without having to pay outrageous pricing. Call Lakeway Plumbing, or Pennington's, or any other plumber first... read more

As far as speed, professionalism and service, they were outstanding. Work was completed 3 hours after first call was placed. However, should have checked some of the reviews on pricing. Two hours on site by a first day apprentice and a master plumber. Dug a 1 foot hole, replaced a PRV because I had low pressure. $1500? Wow! Sure, they gave me an estimate beforehand, but what do I know about the scope of the job? I'll definitely ask more questions and/or shop around next time. I wasn't in that much of a hurry. read more

Over-priced and poor customer service My husband called Reliant because our kitchen faucet was running slow. The plumber came out on a Sunday. He was going on vacation the next day, so we agreed to let him come. He told my husband that we needed a new faucet and asked if he wanted the angle brackets replaced. My husband told him to go ahead and do the repair. The plumber went to Home Depot to get the faucet. He simply told my husband they didn't have the same one, but he got a similar one, and replaced it without showing my husband. When I arrived home, he was under the sink finishing up, and I had no idea he had replaced the faucet. He handed my husband his pad with the invoice on it and asked him to sign it for $921.84 and left. Much to my surprise when I noticed the faucet, I realized he had used the cheapest one he could find. I looked it up on the Home Depot site, and found it was $84, but he charged $671.84...so $587 for labor! The faucet is also not functioning as it did. I have a 60/40 sink and the faucet only extends about 1 inch over the 40% side and with no sprayer I can't rinse out my sink. Also, it turns out that the 2 angle stops he replaced were only $8 - $16 each and he charged $250, so $234 for labor at the least. All in all, the parts were $100, and the invoice was $921. A whopping $821 for 1.5 hours of work. $550 PER HOUR!!! To top it off, the invoice (picture included) did not include a breakdown of parts and labor, so we did not know that so much of the bill was labor until we researched the parts prices ourselves. We called the office to talk to them the next day but were told no one could talk to us because they were on vacation. Everyone? We called again a couple weeks later and did not get our call returned. My daughter works for a home builder and we told her about the situation about 2 1/2 weeks later on Easter. She called the plumbers to attempt to help us and got nowhere. She knew the bill was outrageous, but just to confirm she asked a couple plumbers and one of the construction managers, and they all said the same thing, this job should have been closer to $300. When she spoke with Reliant, they insisted that their pricing is industry standard, "average for the area" as they said. Here's the kicker - Reliant told my daughter they would give us a $100 credit IF SHE REMOVED HER YELP REVIEW. Buying review removals? Makes me wonder about their overall Yelp rating, is it artificially higher than it would be if they didn't compensate people for reviews? When I finally spoke to Steve on Monday 4/22/19 and could immediately tell from his tone that he was defensive. He said he showed my husband the parts and told him the cost. Not true. I told him I was upset that the faucet was subpar and missing the sprayer, and he denied that the previous faucet even had a sprayer. You don't think I know my own faucet? Not True! He even said I have the "wrong sink", whatever that means?!?! Although my husband asked him to leave the parts, he took them when he left! He finally asked me what I wanted, and I told him I want a faucet equal to what I had before. He said he would give me $100 off (not enough for a similar faucet and installation). My husband then spoke to him and he also told him we want the equivalent faucet. Steve refused to make it right, and at that time my husband did get upset. We both felt completely price gouged and helpless. Now, I have to buy another faucet and hire another plumber, which I am finding does NOT cost more than $300, much less $671. However, since I am doing this all for a second time, I will end up spending over $1200 on a job that should have been $300 easy. Yes, we probably should have inspected the job more diligently. We've never had an experience like this and trusted them too much. RUN, AND RUN FAST. RELIANT USES CHEAP PARTS, AND CHARGES 60-75% MORE THAN OTHER AREA PLUMBERS. And they just don't care.
