Well sometime around then, some industrious craftsmen were sawing down oak trees, cutting them into planks and laying down the wood into my floor. So some 47,450 days later (that would be 68,320,000 minutes of steps, weather changes, barometric pressure dips, moving furniture, pets scratching etc, mopping, waxing, insects, new owners, joy, tears and changing seasons), the oak changed into patches of pine and polyurethane stains and here we are. We called in Vintage Flooring to remedy the planks that were cracked, where former patching jobs were failing, and to address the aging yellow stain. They came out quickly, presented us with a quote to replace planks and to replace the entire floor. We selected to replace the damaged section only. They started work but informed us that the floor was too damaged and the entire floor needed to be replaced. Entire process from start to finish was 4 days. Floor looks gorgeous. Minor deductions: change from sections of floor to entire floor (although they cautioned us) shoebase will have to be redone and I found a Budweiser can (empty) outside the room. Nicest floor in the house now. Spoiler alert: more work to come!

They finished a job he estimated would take four days in less than 3. I paid Joe and they went on their way. I trusted that he would do what he said. I was wrong. The next day, when dry enough for me to inspect it, I saw that they had simply skipped over several parts of the floor in corners where they did not sanding and no staining. Worse, because they weren't careful and used the electric sander for even the tight spots, they carved into my wood trim in multiple places. Three times Joe promised he would come fix the issues and three times he was a no show. And all three times when he didn't show up, he ignored multiple calls and texts from me. I definitely regret using these guys. By, the way, I'm not sure they use the name A-Genesis Hardwood-Remodeling hardware any more. I found this page by googling the phone number. A-Genesis is not an active company according to the State of Illinois but Joe is definitely still active.

He works early and stays late. He came as a referral from homebuilders we know. We brought him on to rip out the carpet in the basement and guest bedroom upstairs. We came to an agreement and both rooms would be one flat fee but I would have to buy the material for the basement flooring. Which was fine because he ended up picking up 19 boxes/445 sq feet of flooring from Floor and Decor for me! Between ripping out the carpets, installing the new floors, disposal of the carpets and staining the wood floor in the guest bedroom upstairs, it took him about 4 days. When I say he works his butt off, he works his butt off. One day he must've worked 9 hours straight without a meal! I offered to buy him lunch but he refused. They removed all the crumbling concrete steps, porch pad, rotted wood supports and frail metal railings. They were able to reenforced the existing brick base and ceiling supports, reducing my costs. They framed, and rebuilt with cedar beams/ railings and finished with a beautiful, durable composite wood flooring. The detail of the craftsmanship on the custom cedar railings and posts are amazing. Demo and rebuild were completed in the estimate that was given of 3 weeks. I showed John a picture of how I wanted it, and he and his team did the rest! Seamless from beginning to end. Bayer Builders dealt with all the permitting and inspections and helped me pick out materials (offering low- and high-end pricing). They consulted with me throughout the project, with very little effort on my part to get this massive project completed.
