I love the ambiance. The pillows in the booths inside help my back. I also really love the huge tree and patio lighting in the evenings. We often bring our dog and appreciate the spacious outdoor seating and music. The servers are always wonderful. The cocktails are creative and complex, which I enjoy. I used to rate them a solid 4 but I knocked a star off because the food is pretty good, but for some reason it never tastes as good as the first couple times I went a few years back. The fava beans were a favorite but lately not as umami as they used to be. They also used to have this coconut Tres leches cake that was phenomenal. After reading all of the glowing Yelp reviews for this place, I was expecting to be blown away by my experience at Renata's. Unfortunately, I left feeling incredibly underwhelmed. I genuinely don't understand what everyone else is talking about when they mention the delicious dishes and drinks that they had here - everything we tried was bland and mediocre. Two stars only because the food at least tasted fresh, but that was the only compliment I could give. We began with the guacamole, which was not made table-side as other reviews mention. It was fresh, but it lacked any notable flavor beyond smashed avocado. Truly. Occasionally you get a slight bite of a mild cheese or a red onion, but there was no lime, no spice, no salt. It's fine to keep your guac pure, but at least through in a little flaky salt to save it from tasting like baby food. Next up was the halibut ceviche; I have never had a ceviche like this, and I don't mean that as a compliment. An authentic ceviche should be very acidic - after all, the acid is what cooks the raw fish. An authentic ceviche is one of my all-time favorite dishes to eat and make, and this one was by far the worst I've had. It was an attempt at a Peruvian style ceviche with leche de tigre, which is a sauce that is typically heavily lime/spice focused. This sauce was basically milk. I'm not kidding. It was creamy but had 0 spice and lime from what I could tell. There also seemed to be more choclo (like a large bean) than fish. The squid ink crackers were these tiny little half-inch crumbs that assisted little with scooping the ceviche. For a main dish we got the whole branzino with a side of black beans. It comes with a few roasted peppers, tortillas, and salsas on the side. The branzino, like truly everything else, had no flavor. I figured it was fine, because the salsas could add the flavor on the side. Nope. The tomatillo might as well have been thick water and the cashew salsa did not pair well with a grilled fish. The veggies and beans lacked any flavor at all and the tortillas were fine. I would recommend this dish only if you have a condition that requires you to eat the blandest food possible. Lastly, we ordered the $22 Los Muertos cocktail. I am not exaggerating when I say this is the worst drink I have ever had. It tasted like tar and the "presentation" of the smoking of the drink consisted of a silent waiter placing a plate holding the drink with a glass dome on top, immediately lifting the dome and swirling the smoke for 5 seconds before silently walking away. I think smoke cocktails are a gimmick in general, but usually nice restaurants make much more of a show about it. Please do not get the Los Muertos. The flavor was seriously off. With that experience rounding out the evening, we were not interested in dessert by the time the menu came around. We left with a large bill and a real sense of disappointment at the experience. Everything was bland and while our server was fine, the experience did not match the luxurious energy that the Biltmore exudes. I would save your money and go to Frank and Albert's next door. read more

This in an instance where I wish there was more nuance in the Yelp star system. On the whole we enjoyed our meal, but there were a few pieces that were irritating/off putting. First the negatives. The Biltmore is a beautiful hotel, and Renata's is a beautiful restaurant within the hotel. Unfortunately it's positioned right behind the family pool. On top of that, the Biltmore sells day use passes to the pool. As a result, when dining on the patio you're subject to a number of sunburned drunk people traipsing through in their board shorts and daisy dukes and bikini tops. I'm paying way too much for my hotel room and meal to deal with someone's butt cheeks hanging out of their pants waltzing past my table. There was one unsupervised toddler with a load in her diaper who was wandering around until her father decided to change her right smack in the footpath behind our table. It was unacceptable, and we were frustrated that neither restaurant management or hotel management addressed the issue. If you're going to pad your profits by doing day use please manage it so the riffraff don't spoil it for others. Two other quibbles- We had an early reservation and arrived on time, but were seated in the sun despite the patio being essentially empty. When we asked to be moved to one of the dozen+ empty tables we were told that the other tables were booked. That ended up being baloney; plenty of shaded tables remained unfilled when we left two hours later. Finally, the "charred" vegetables that accompanied the meat were basically raw (as another commenter mentioned), and when we asked our server to see if the kitchen could pop them back onto the grill he came back to say the chef wouldn't do it. So those were left uneaten. Complaints aside, our server Jeff was wonderful, and we thoroughly enjoyed our food and beverages. We started with the basque bites (fabulous), the octopus (very good), and the watermelon salad (underwhelming). The brisket and sauces were tender and flavorful, and we loved the churros. The drinks were terrific, too. If I were to return I would be sure to call ahead to request a better table and stand my ground once I arrived. For $400+ management should do better. read more

This is my third time at Renata's and the experience gets better every time! Tonight was my 36th birthday and the staff didn't stop short of pure amazement. The beautiful hostess made sure to recognize me right off the bat and let me choose where I ordered to have the table. Our server Marco was absolutely amazing! He catered to our every need, re-fired the smoke for our Mezcal, gave the best recommendations, and took a bunch of pictures for our table to remember. Thank you Marco for making my birthday special! Probably top 5 dining experiences of my life. The atmosphere went way above my expectations, with the live music, hanging lights outside, personal heaters for each table, and a big furnace. We ate here during our stay at the Biltmore and all I can say is what a fantastic dining experience! The service was top notch and the food was excellent. It was so good that we went twice during our short stay at the hotel. The Latin influence and smoked drinks and meats were one-of-a-kind and very flavorful. We had a Paloma and the guacamole to start as an appetizer, which were delicious. For the main course we had the wagyu brisket barbacoa with Peruvian rice and black beans. And for dessert we had the chocotorta the first night and the churros the second night. They also brought out a special treat for an anniversary (very nice). I felt bad giving just one star hence two.. This place was underwhelming at best. I was excited to come for the reviews and some pics online. The food was so bland. Being peruvian I was really excited to try the ceviche. But man what was even that? We had the wagyu brisket, guac and chips. Oh and the shrimp. No flavor really. Cant comment about the drinks since I wasn't drinking this evening. Server didn't bother to refill. Place is not even decorated. Looking for someplace cool and new and different for my wife's birthday this year. Saw Renata's mentioned in some local e-magazine that shows up in my email, and it looked interesting. (It's a little tricky to find - if you go to the valet station just before the Biltmore Check-in area, it's just north of there) Walked in - very cool surroundings - interesting architecture and decor. Service started off great and got better during the meal. :-) Pondered the menu while waiting for the rest of our party to arrive...seemed like it would be fun to order a bunch of items and share (there were 6 of us) - talked to the server, and she said that was a great idea. She helped us make our selections. Got an array of appetizers, and then some entree's and "Mesa da Familia" items and they were all terrific. Let's see - started with the guacamole, Spanish cured meat and cheeses, and, I'd read about Jamón ibérico, but had never tried it, so this seemed like as good a time as ever. The Jamón ibérico was quite tasty, and there was plenty to go around (queue our son talking about eating it in Spain a few years back ;-) ). The meat and cheese (and nuts and jams and fruits) board was dynamite. Everything on it was amazing - great selection! The guacamole - let's face it, restaurant guac tends to be boring, flat, dull, meh. This was OUTSTANDING! Maybe it's the cotija mixed in? Whatever - even better than our home made. Wow! Moving on to the "with your cocktail" section of the menu - M-in-law wanted the Charred Spanish Octopus a la Veracruz, and one of our daughters suggested the Grilled Spanish Watermelon Salad - both were good (actually, the watermelon salad was amazing). We also ordered the Roasted Chilean Seabass, the Crispy Slow Cooked Pork Belly Roast, the Waguy New York Steak, the Mesquite-Smoked Whole Jidori Chicken, and the Smoked Wagyu Brisket Barbacoa, and Peruvian Rice, Rancho El Gordo Black Beans, Charred Street Corn, and Warm Fava Beans for sides. If you're looking for seafood, the seabass is a definite winner. The pork belly was delightful (none of it made it to the 'take home' boxes). The brisket barbacoa was stellar, too. The wagyu steak was delectable, as you would expect. Mmmmmm... The smoke flavor on the Jidori chicken was a little heavy, and it was just a bit dry - out of everything we got, that was the least favorite (so I got for lunch for 2 days afterward, along with bits of some of the others ;-)). The beans and rice were very nice. The street corn comes off the cob, but was very tasty. Fava bean - never had them before...but after this, I'll definitely get them again - they were terrific. After all of this, we left with quite a bit in take home boxes, so everybody got lunch the next day. Sadly, since we had birthday cake at home (baked by our other daughter), we didn't sample the dessert menu...maybe next time? Service was attentive and excellent throughout the meal. Look Yelp people (Yelpies like me) don't get me wrong this place was a good time, but missed the opportunity of being the prominent restaurant experience while in Phoenix. Yes, the Biltmore was fantastic with its friendly staff, beautiful facilities, and luxurious commodes but this restaurant in particular didn't hit the spot. Came here for dinner this weekend while staying at the resort. Ordered the shrink appetizer and they were wonderful. Also got the Mexican corn and it arrived cold, like fridge cold. Was told it was a summer dish. If you're going to be the only person in the world to serve it cold, maybe mention it ? Sea bass was fantastic. Biggest gripe was it was about hundred degrees outside at night, waiter mentioned how both my water glass was empty and sprite were empty, came back. No refills. Really ? This places isn't trying too hard, it's just the perfect dinner. We had the absolutely best time. It's a sexy vibe, but the service was what thoroughly impressed me most. We had Niko as our server, he made perfect recommendations. And I've never had better octopus. Huge fan of every bite I took, the presentation of plates and serve ware, I even loved that at our table there was a blanket on the back of a chair. Eeeverything here is well thought out, and well worth the reasonable prices for the very shareable brisket tacos. We absolutely loved it, and this is my new favorite place in all of Scottsdale and Phoenix. Renata's is easily my #1 favorite restaurant in the country, and I've eaten at a lot of restaurants and think I have pretty good taste. The ambiance is impeccable, the service is top notch, and last but CERTAINLY not least, the food is a sensory nirvana that words cannot even describe. It sounds dramatic to say, but the wagyu brisket has CHANGED MY LIFE. I got goosebumps reading some of the other reviews about this delicacy, and can't wait for our next trip to Renata's this evening. Fava beans? Don't underestimate them (never thought I would be raving about beans). Octopus? Off the charts. But if you take anything from this review, it needs to be the brisket. Went for a date with my guy. This was special because we're new parents and this was our first night out. Our server was fantastic and the water assistant was on point! It was crowded inside so we opted for outside. Great choice, especially in the time of Covid. Only downside was that employees didn't wear masks, which is why this review isn't a 5. Had we been more hungry we definitely would have ordered the large shareable platters, they looked delicious at other tables! Staff was kind enough to recognize our anniversary with a special dessert. We did get pushed into an upsell of the margarita flight. It was expensive and when our waitress asked us if we liked it and we told her we couldn't drink two out of three of them she just laughed. You would think for a $40 Flight of small drinks, they would have offered something else as we couldn't even drink 2 of them - the smoke one tasted like a liquid ashtray and the green was a cilantro bomb. Beautiful restaurant, impeccable service and outstanding cuisine! Had a glass of Cava ($20 ) to accompany our guacamole appetizer ($19) to start. Guacamole was fluffy and delicious with tortilla chips with a little pepper "zing". As the waiter explained- kind of like Doritos! Followed by the delicious Chilean Sea Bass. ($58.00). Sea Bass was a good size portion with rice and a little green molé sauce swirled on the plate. Our dessert was coffee ( $6- nice and strong) and the Kahlua Cake ($17). The Kahula Cake was beautiful, with chocolate type circles on the top. A little sweet for me, but tasty. Enough to share for two. The total bill for two was $300.11. The only thing - if you ask for water, assuming it will just be a plain glass of filtered water at no charge- you will not get this. They will bring you a large bottle of water at $10.00. But heck, knowing this is "Fine Dining", to be expected- just a little surprised. All in all, a wonderful meal! read more

Let me start off by saying I wanted to love this place. The architecture is beautiful and it is situated in a historic resort by Albert Chase McArthur! But sadly, that didn't make up for everything else in my opinion. A few in the party ordered martinis and unfortunately they did not come out to their liking. It seemed as if the waitress was more intent on correcting them than making everyone happy. It was almost as if they weren't allowed to ask for a drink to be remade. Next came lots of food! A couple items we ordered: Grilled Branzino & Wagyu brisket. My branzino was not fully deboned and I guess I'm not used to that in high end restaurants. It seemed as if all the shishito peppers and bell peppers accompanying the meals were raw. After pointing this out to a food runner, they mentioned it was cooked and walked away. After our waitress asked how our food was, my reply was: "eh". She seemed uncomfortable with that response and added nothing further. I mentioned that my vegetables were pretty raw... but nothing was resolved. As we closed out our check the waitress acknowledged everyone in the party but myself and my date. Came for our 5th anniversary. We had open table reservations for the patio. The hostess said there were no patio table available for 90 minutes despite our reservations. We were seated indoors. A few minutes later Zach the General Manager stopped by offering some complimentary champagne. We thanked him but shared we were planning on ordering Margaritas. Then, we were greeted by the wonderful hostess and taken to our table. The restaurant was beautiful and the seating was very comfortable. We shared the charred octopus, sandwich bites, and Chilean sea bass. All was absolutely delicious! The desert was also wonderful and the perfect way to end the night. We had an all around phenomenal experience at Renata's Hearth. From the cocktails to the service to the delicious dishes what an amazing evening. The presentation and quality of the cocktails was incredible. The seafood rivaled what we've had in coastal cities. The ceviche, octopus, and sea bass were all unique and well prepared. Without exception the food was amazing. The pork belly was perfectly cooked, the wagyu brisket was delightful and the burnt corn was a taste explosion ... but ... The ambience was disastrous. The combination of the noise of people's conversations, the music (live and recorded) and the design of the restaurant itself resulted in a room so loud you couldn't hear your neighbor talk. Approximate measurements with the Decibel X app showed an average of 89.1db and a peak 99.8db. That's too darn loud! If you're looking for something intimate this is NOT recommended otherwise enjoy the excellent food! read more
