We got the potatoes, brisket and Elote. Unfortunately the star of the show were the potatoes. I really love how crispy and well seasoned they were. The esquite (elote) was not good (too watery) and I feel I can make a better one at home. The brisket looked delicious however I felt it was a little too fatty for my liking. The peppers and green onions that came with the brisket could have been roasted for longer. All in all I would say it was an okay meal but I expected to be wowed considering their pricing. I think this is a good choice if you're staying at the hotel but I don't think I will be coming back. read more

As former 'regulars', we haven't been in a month due to the new menu change. We gave it another shot today and are sad to say that our former top five restaurant in Phoenix is no longer in our top 50. The new menu is so bad, in fact, that we likely won't be back for some time, if ever. The staff is still a 100 out of 10, as usual. As I had mentioned in my prior review, they replaced the family style chicken, which was one of the great dishes of Arizona. We tried what they replaced it with this evening, the Cochinita Pibil, and it was a block of fat. It was truly gross. The cocktail menu is now a disaster. Everything is sweet. I suppose they're catering to the lowest common denominator Starbucks crowd that pines after sugar and fat, lacks sophistication and wants a cocktail that tastes like sweetened pomegranate juice and red pepper to pair with their pig fat. It was interesting to witness how quickly and easily a great restaurant can fall. This one fell hard. Based on how busy they were not on a very busy Friday evening, I have hope that someone will wake up and fix what they broke. read more

What a wonderful night at Renata's Heart, where all go out of their way to ensure your meal experience is pure perfection. My partner enjoyed the smoked pork which was anxious and flavorful without being overly salty or sweet roast in corn husks and garnished with delicious side dishes and hand thrown tortillas. I ordered the tamal to follow the radish salad which was crisp, crunchy, fresh, and bright and creamy. We enjoyed the margarita flight, and bought some fabulous wines. I was so excited to try this place but I was a little let down by the experience. We had reservations and still waited 40 minutes to be seated so it was a rocky start right off the bat. The ambiance of the place is great, it's very romantic and modern inside with nice dim mood lighting. The presentation of the food was beautiful too. Now for the downers....I'd say this place is very overpriced, even for a resort restaurant. The wagyu brisket was tender and flavorful but was way over smoked to the point that I had to stop eating it. It was giving me heartburn. The cochinita pibil was actually made with pork belly, which isn't traditional and was average. I really enjoyed the salad and the jalapeño mashed potatoes. Those were pretty spectacular! I also loved the habanero salsa. They don't automatically bring that out, so ask for it if you are like me and love your food spicy as hell. The rice was bland, and the sandwich and polenta board was insanely overpriced. I posted a picture. For three tiny sandwich bites and a few polenta fries it was $32 bucks. I enjoyed it but that's pretty outrageous for what is basically a small segment of a ham and cheese sandwich. I have never had street corn/esquite I didn't like until I had it here. It was very runny and the lime was overpowering. The cocktails are great and very creative. I'd say the experience was better than the food overall, and I'm glad I tried it, but I don't know if I'd go back. read more

I was in Phoenix for a work conference and this was our first restaurant of the trip. We had a private room which was nice so we could enjoy a bit of a pre fix menu. The fava beans and guacamole were my top favorite apps. For the main, the brisket and steelhead trout were very well done. The brisket was just smoked enough and just fatty enough that wow. Yum. The crispy smashed potatoes were excellent as well. For cocktails, the prickly pear and aloe cocktail was so unique and totally hit the spot. I'd love to drink this every week. Desserts were the perfect way to close out a wonderful meal with the churros being the best of the bunch. I should add the tres leches cake which normally I hate, was a really good dessert and not the usual soggy mess this cake is. Everything about this place -- the atmosphere, food and service -- is incredible. Atmosphere: sit in side amidst stunning architecture. Or, sit outside under a beautifully lit tree in round booths that perfectly blend into the landscape. Service: Waiters were super kind. The people next to us had a number of dietary restrictions and the waiter was incredibly thorough in both checking with the chef to confirm, as well as making recommendations. Food: Excellent! Very flavorful; most dishes have that smoky flavor. We were delighted by the smoky paprika chips! Cost: This place is certainly not cheap, but if you order off of the "For the Table: Family Menu" then you can really keep costs down as portions there are huge. SMOKING ALLOWED! Smoking guns, that is. What a wonderful meal and we stuffed ourselves only on the shared plates. We were fortunate to have the best seat in the house, in my opinion. If you are a party of 4 or less, as for the booth at the opposite end of the entry in the raised area. You have a window of the outdoor patio behind you and an amazing view looking down into the dining room. We really felt like VIP's... Well, it was my birthday after all. The food is creative, beautiful and delicious. We enjoyed the best guacamole (made to order), charred shrimp cocktail (very smoky), Kumiai oysters, crispy smashed potatoes (my partners' favorite), and the grilled Spanish watermelon salad (my favorite). We also enjoyed the Burnt Paloma and Cactus Blossom cocktails. For dessert, you can easily share the amazing pineapple flan, but I would have to say our favorite was the churros. Just pour the churro dip all over me! Service was impeccable, as expected for a restaurant of this caliber. Renata's is an upscale, contemporary Latin restaurant located in the Waldorf Astoria hotel in the Biltmore. I was absolutely thrilled to dine here, after seeing many articles in magazines, and in local news clips. The concept is SMOKE, let me tell you everything is smoked, cocktails, food, and even dessert! The problem for me, I don't really care for that intense mesquite smoke, that lingers way too long on your tongue, and hands. I was hoping for a little more balance, but everything is way too Smokey for me. That's my personal preference. And have no desire to return to Renata's. However, with that said, I don't want to deter people who really enjoy that Smokey flavor, that is why I'm giving the food a 4 star rating, because the food was prepared perfectly moist, and looked beautiful. The 3 star rating will reflect, service, and cost. Don't mind paying for exceptional service and food, but definitely not the case on our visit. Starters included; from the cart, Guacamole, $15 it was very tasty, but nothing spectacular. And the Spanish Cured meat and cheese. $26 (Served with no bread or crackers.) which would of been nice. There was no vehicle to put that delicious cheese and sour cherry compote onto. But understandably not all that necessary, we made out just fine! We ordered the mole negro-rubbed wagyu brisket ($60) and the Smoked Jidori chicken, ($55) from the, "share for the table," section of the menu, both way too Smokey for me, but very tender. We also ordered Seabass, ($39) was way better than the smoked meats, and we had the Wagyu New York steak ($58) and the side of charred street corn, flavorful, but served cold. Like a corn salad. I was expecting a hot side. However, our service fell a bit short, for such a high end restaurant. The service was okay, A bit slow on the reordering of cocktails, and not enough interaction of coming back to check on our table. As well as the manager, just walking around, looking like he wasn't sure how to interact with customers. Even as we finished and walked out, he was at the front house, and never said a single word! No thank you for dining with us, or how was your meal? Nothing, nada, no interaction the entire visit there! Also, be prepared to pay for all those Smokey cocktails, an average of $16-18 dollars a drink. We delighted in three Los Muertos smoked cocktails, $18 each Aguachile Mule $16 Burnt Paloma.. not my favorite. My fault, I'm not a Mezcal fan. $17 And a Margarita Classico $16 Drinks were presented beautifully, and tasted lovely. None were strong, and we all re ordered more drinks. If you loved smoked food, this is a great choice for you! If you don't really care for intensely smoked food, this may not be the place for you. read more

Sitting at the Bar ordered a dessert from Renata's. Crème brûlée which seemed to be a classic dessert from menu description, anything but classic. It was filled with candied GINGER. The ginger reacted badly with the egg in the brûlée and everything turned to liquid except the ginger. The creamy luscious egg was overpowered by tanic ginger and I found myself chewing pieces of sugary ginger. So disappointed and it left me wondering about the chef that created this mess. I think the chef was trying to be gourmet, but please there's nothing that can be improved on with a beautiful crème brûlée. read more

My crew went out to try the Biltmore's new modern Latin restaurant. It's a nice fancy spot, good for groups of 8 or less. Menu is small which is good so that I don't feel overwhelmed with picking something to eat. The smoked Wagyu brisket caught my attention and was so happy that it came out delicious. My gf ordered the Wagyu New York steak and we almost fought over the last bite. The sides/appetizers are really small in size so that's a bummer. This restaurant is inside a beautiful hotel with fantastic grounds. Come early to walk around and see some unique architecture. We ate outside in a beautiful courtyard for dinner with a large party of 11. It was a bit chilly but the staff brought out additional heaters and were all very attentive and accommodating. They are known for their oysters and tequila sunrises so several in our group ordered them saying they were fantastic. Joel and I opted for the guacamole to start followed by trout with smashed potatoes and Chilean sea bass with rice. All the food was excellent! The sauces paired well sides and fish; they didn't over power the fish. The price for an entree is $55-$225 so this is fine dining. One tip to know before you go, if you are a large party your bill can only be split evenly by card or by room number easily. We internally worked it out because our ordering varied within the group. Overall, I highly recommend them for their amazing food, atmosphere, and great staff! read more

We are really surprised by the reviews! Came for a Fathers Day dinner because of them and left thoroughly disappointed. The food was the best part, but was average at best and still significantly overpriced! None more that the brisket--for what was paid you can get 5-6 times more and significantly better brisket at a few of the super BBQ places around town!! The rest of the items were ok; none had any great flavor or were memorable. Most seemed like bad copycats of great items from other places around town. The rice, of all things, was loaded with grains of half cooked rice. The service here was a huge let down: from taking our food before we were done, to not checking on us, to not pouring our wine, to not describing any of the food items or even suggesting/recommending or describing anything at the start. No way we will be back or recommend to anyone. Way too much money spent for such a meh experience! read more

I LOVED the watermelon salad and guacamole, I wouldn't order the shrimp again as I don't care for cold shrimp. It was more of a cocktail item. However, my other friends loved it. The dinner we chose was the brisket for four which came with corn and flour tortillas. However, we did order two sides of street corn as well and some potatoes. The street corn was BOMB. The potatoes were yummy and went quickly! The brisket was fantastic and we all enjoyed it. My friend and I love fish normally. When the waitress hyped the branzino... it wasn't a hard sell for us as we love branzino! However, the disappointment was the Branzino.. I was so disappointed with the lack of flavor and we left a large portion behind. I was expecting way more from this place with this dish :) The other food was awesome. I didn't have a chance to mention it to the manager as when he came over we were waiting for the tortillas so the boys jumped at the chance. It has both outside and indoors seating and great for a date night or dinner with friends. They specialize in tequilas and provide a drink menu that has introduced me to crafted cocktails. (Yes, I'm a bit late to catch on) I usually pick a dry Rosé but decided to live on the edge and ordered a Margarita Verde. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Nearly lost my life from their food. Served nut filled dishes to our table that requested/informed over the phone, while ordering AND when each dish came out that there was a severe nut allergy and we need to be extremely careful. Not only did I have to use my epi pen that night but the ENTIRE table got food poising (aside from one person that had drinks) It was unfortunate because the waitress wasn't friendly, didn't seem to take our table seriously and the company didn't bat an eye when we called the next morning about all this. The manager proceeded to tell me that they had a case of food poisoning a few months prior. LOL! Apparently this happens there a lot. We know someone that spent $1500 there and got food poisoning and were offered a gift card of $200 to come back. What on earth. I had to call several times and speak to the food health department and only then were we refunded. I didn't push aside from asking for compensation on my epi so I could replace it and they didn't do anything. The staff isn't knowledgeable, they're serving bad food that poisons people and don't take allergies seriously. Truly an atrocious mess considering the price point/fine dining facade. The Arizona Biltmore is my favorite luxury resort in the Scottsdale / Phoenix area. It exudes first class with attention to detail throughout the FLW inspired resort. It's just a great spot to unwind. We tried their signature restaurant Renata's Hearth and it leaves a lot to be desired with mediocre food and of course being very pricey. It is Latin inspired and essentially it's all fluff and no substance with zero authenticity. I knew this would be the case....but what can you do when she wants to try it ‍. Tip- great place to stay, have a cocktail, sit outside at the Spire bar, just don't waste your time eating at this place. read more

A spectacular experience. Total five star! Our party of six started in the Spire Bar- the newly done fantastic outdoor bar and lounge. Great generous drinks and a decent bar menu if you're hungry. After an hour we meandered towards Renata's Biltmores more upscale restaurant. We asked to be seated without a reservation on a Friday night. Tim the manager mentioned they were booked yet after a few minutes of moving things around, accommodated us beautifully. This is truly the sign of a well managed restaurant. When customers are in front of you and your restaurant is empty waiting for the reservation- always always always accommodate the paying customer directly in front of you. Bravo to Tim for this decision, now every one of us will sing the praises of not only this restaurant but the hotel. The dinner was spectacular. Every dish more beautiful and delicious than the previous. We ordered the guacamole and the salsa tray which were fabulous. The salsa platter includes five salsas and pork rinds to dip. Then the pork belly, chicken, chilies, sea bass and some sides of street corn and beans. Service was excellent. The atmosphere is indescribable. Truly magical. This place is just gorgeous. I love the dark lit atmosphere, it really sets the mood for a relaxing evening. We started off with the espresso martinis which uniquely are served with tequila. Very delicious and well-made. They also have flights of tequila shots, which allows you to try a wider range of some of their tequilas. This was also very delicious. And for food we tried their oysters! Our server was very attentive, and we were even checked out by a manager ultimately next level amazing service. My boyfriend and I are currently staying at the Arizona Biltmore which is stunning - and Renata's Hearth is a beautiful restaurant on the grounds. The ambiance and atmosphere at the restaurant are sexy and cool - great for a date night or anniversary dinner! As Always, we started our meal with drinks & and a shareable plate. The Aguachile Mule and the Cactus Blossom were the cocktails of choice - good choices but not something we neeeeeeded too many of. For our app, the salsa flight was fun and tasty! 5 different salsas and tons of chips were a great way to start the meal. The cashew queso salsa was by far our favorite! We cannot say enough good things about our main course: the crispy pork belly tacos to share. The meat was cooked perfect and was so flavorful! That, served with assorted peppers, salsas, and endless tortillas filled us both up completely. We shared a side of the street corn. Light and refreshing, a super good side to our shareable tacos. For desert we indulged in the Tres Leches Cake - we heard rumbling from the tables around us that it was the best dessert, and they were not wrong. We were celebrating my boyfriends birthday and they helped us celebrate with a free dessert - Chocotorta. This was a yummy chocolate contrast to our tres leches, so good! There were a ton of people there who weren't from the resort, and I highly recommend eating here even if you aren't staying on the grounds. Phenomenal experience! read more
