Rene's Donut shop never disappoints! We're so happy we work nearby because it's become one of our favorite breakfast spots. If you need a morning pick-me-up, definitely try the Vietnamese coffee. Wow! This place has been remodeled since my last review and is completely under new management. Previously, it was dark, run-down, and congested. Now it's open, clean, bright, and inviting. I stopped in around 11:45ish, and as usual for a donut place, the number of donuts available had dwindled. I only wanted a 1/2 dozen donuts, and they still had what I was looking for. The person behind the counter (owner?) was super friendly and efficient. Now, for the most important review. As with all my other donut shop reviews, it all centers on the maple bar. And this one did NOT disappoint. The dough was soft throughout, including the crust. The maple was smooth, not cracked and flaky like some places. The maple had a lingering taste in the mouth, which tells you it's rich in maple flavor. More importantly, the 2nd maple bar I had later in the evening was still good! I would put this place on my top 5 donut shops for maple bars. The other donuts were also good. While donut dampness is evident on a glazed donut if not eaten right away, it still maintained its freshness when I had one the following morning. In the top 3 places I have eaten donuts, and let me tell you if I haven't eaten there I wish I could have. These donuts are NOT like all the rest. The dough is made from quality ingredients and significantly different from other places. There are only two other places in OC I have found that compare to Rene's. I stopped at Rene's after discovering my local donut shop with "normal" donuts was closed unexpectedly and I was in a hurry. A quick Google search showed Rene's was freeway close and fit the bill. One review said Rene's was better than the rest. I arrived about 6:15 am and there was plenty of selection. I was immediately greeted and the service was excellent. I paid $20 for an assorted dozen. I thoroughly enjoyed the donuts and a co-worker said he had not had a donut like that in some time. It will be my go to when I get the urge or when I need to bring some for work. I had such a great experience at Rene's Donuts! The gentleman who helped me went above and beyond--he was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment I walked in. He even offered me a sample of their new banana bread that they'll be introducing next week, which was such a thoughtful touch. On top of that, he let me know about a special they were having and gave me 15% off my order, which I really appreciated. It's rare to see that level of attentiveness and care. What really stood out to me was the level of customer service. You can genuinely tell that he cares about hospitality and making customers feel valued. I love their chocolate chip donuts. The people are there are so nice. And there is a self serve coffee bar where you can make your coffee and then pay. They also have refrigerated beverages as well. The fresh squeeze orange juice is delicious. And its a small quiet donut shop whenever I go. They also have a loyalty card which I personally have never heard of before for a donut shop. read more

I immediately noticed how clean it was inside and even though we went late in the day there was a good selection of donuts available. I got a cake donut and the texture is nice and soft. Not dry or too crumbly. My kid got a "fluffy" donut as he calls them and said it was like a pillow. I also got an iced Vietnamese coffee. I asked the young man helping me to make it less sweet and he did a great job, it was perfect. He was friendly and easy to talk to, I find that rare lately so I think it's worth mentioning.
