A really cool restaurant that has a throwback to the 1980s maybe in 1970s games and toys now granted they are behind glass but they're still really cool to see the old Nintendo and he-man and Transformers. They also have some cool painting over the fun atmosphere as you look at the restaurant. The food is really good. We really enjoyed it over and got the I got a vermicelli. We also got some fried spring eggrolls. The broth was well developed some of that good flavor, but you wanted it to be a little bit more oof when you think about that to make it more desirable the other thing when you look at the add-ons it had for the fun could've really had more stuff to be able to be more desirable. That's what would've made it a five star so for example it's common if you're getting Steak you're getting like steak but meatballs and tripe and maybe even some brisket and so that just takes it to the next level. The vermicelli was a little bit light quantity wise was a little bit smaller than what you'd expect for the price. The staff were friendly and nice and quick at removing items and getting things like extra napkins or forks or chopsticks. Would recommend and if I'm wanting might be back. Just know that it's tough to say it's the best fun in Houston when there's so many different restaurants around town.

I tried this place since it was near my doctor's office, but I was not expecting to find such a good banh mi restaurant all the way up in Cypress! The baguette was very fresh and had a great texture. The grilled pork was delicious and all the other vegetable fillings were fresh and crisp. The butter was nice and creamy. Even my Vietnamese mom who is incredibly picky about banh mi enjoyed the one I bought for her! I chatted up the cashier guy and lady who was making my sandwich and they were very friendly and welcoming which added to my positive experience here!

I didn't see it on the menu so I asked, I did receive, and it was worth it! Their artichoke tea is delicious, refreshing, and comes in two different sizes depending on how indulgent you're feeling. While the shop itself is a bit dark, they decorated the space, and they more than make up for it with super friendly customer service. If you're worried about coming alone, know that there are plenty of single diners there during lunch time and the space stays relatively quiet even when busy. As far as the beef banh mi, it satisfied my craving. They're heavy on the butter, light on the beef, and the jalapeño will not light your mouth on fire. Overall, I'll certainly revisit when I'm in the mood for some artichoke tea.

Good for what it is, but the prices are questionable. The egg rolls were over $5, and they were a bit small. If they were bigger, I could totally justify the price. The rice dish was yummy, and the beef was thin so it was pretty tender. The employees are not the most welcoming or friendly. I came on a weekday evening, and there was only one other group dining in.

Got pork vermicelli with an egg roll and it was delicious there was one piece of meat that was to fatty but besides that it was delicious I especially liked the spicy fish sauce (does not taste like fish and is a really good sauce) on it. Oh Retro , Retro where for art thou Retro? We used to go here all the time but we moved from the Cypress area. We were back in town for a couple of days and hubby had to go by and get some Retro Rolls. He absolutely loves these things!! He says and I quote: "It's a warm,, crispy pork egg roll enveloped in a cool, soft layer of veggie and shrimp spring roll wrapped in rice paper with either a peanut or fish sauce for dipping. Tip: Add a little chili oil to make this little bite of heaven all the more better." Service is always friendly and professional. The restaurant is clean and has lots of cool graphic art and old school action figures as decorations

Ambiance: Very casual but I liked seeing the Mario wallpaper! Service: It was warm and welcoming. We felt taken care of. Food: We ordered Pho and Banh Mi. Pho was average, the broth lacked flavor but the Banh Mi was excellent. I loved how the bread was soft and the meat had great flavor. Overall it was an enjoyable experience. We would stop by for a Banh Mi if we are in the area. Great place for family and friends to hang out.

This cafe is adorable with a Mario mural. The food is consistently fresh and delicious. They have a veggie banh mi with veggie ham! The bread is crunchy without assaulting your mouth. It's still soft on the interior, it's all so good. Our top choice to get our spring roll fix as well.

This is an awesome little Vietnamese sandwich shop right off the freeway, and in shopping center next to Buc-ee's. They had extremely good customer service, and it seemed to almost be a mom, and pop restaurant as it felt very homey. They had sandwich options, and some noodle options as well with some great boba tea selections. The only thing I was a bit disappointed about was the amount of meat they served with there bowls. Out of all the Vietnamese restaurants I've tried it was probably the one with the least, but there spring rolls, and the egg roll that came with the dish made up for the lack of meat. I loved the decoration inside the building. It had comic book heroes on the tables, and even a small video game machine. I'd return, and try one of the sandwiches next time, and maybe a boba tea as well. read more

I went here a few weeks ago during the late morning. There weren't many customers, so this may have influenced the quality of the food. My Báhn mi baguette was extremely hard - to the point that the outer crust was flaking off and super dry. My pork meet was also pretty dry and sparse. I ordered a vermicelli dish (also pork) for my mother. She enjoyed it and thought all of the ingredients were very fresh. I also ordered some spring rolls, which were good. I've definitely had better (all dishes included), though it's likely that I went during a non-busy hour and the bread wasn't heated fresh. I am inclined to return and give it another try as the main issue was with my Báhn mi. The atmosphere was inviting, and the owners (I believe) were friendly and attentive. read more

Had banh mi, spring rolls, egg rolls, and tapioca drinks. Pork banh mi with pate was good but I didn't get heat from the jalapeño I'm used to. Spring rolls were good- got an extra peanut sauce. They did the sauce right and added some peanuts and sriracha to it. The egg rolls were good and crispy- also with a nice nuoc mam. Milk tea tapioca with a different type of boba was tried. I forgot what kind it was but I like the original black ones better. Overall a good place to eat. Had ours to-go! read more

Was in the area for work and wanted to find something good to eat. Saw this place on Yelp with good reviews and the name caught my attention. Stopped in and was immediately drawn to the cocktail arcade machines. Also was impressed by the collection of vintage toys and video games on display. The nostalgia bug bit and I was reminded of my childhood. I was warmly greeted and I asked for suggestions on what to eat. I decided on a vermicelli bowl with grilled pork. It came with an eggroll. I also ordered a cafe sua da. The coffee was strong (just what I wanted) and delicious. My bowl came out shortly afterwards and it was wonderful. Great flavors all around. I enjoyed eating it while marveling at the displays on the wall. Afterwards I decided to order some spring rolls to go. I used the opportunity to speak with Tony the owner about his collection of video games. He was genuine in his passion for collecting these toys. It made me happy inside talking old school games. I will be returning again when I have to work in the area. If you had a childhood like I did and/or want delicious Vietnamese food, stop by this place. read more

I ordered through door dash this was my first time trying this place. I didn't get pics we were so hungry. Guys this place is amazing. Pho to go and it was piping hot. The Korean wings were wet with delicious spicy sauce, yet still crispy. I highly recommend. The vita mess eggrolls were crispy fresh tasting. We also had chicken pho and beef pho. A lot of love in the broth. I can't wait to order again. Next time also ordering the Retro wings to try. read more

OMG. What a lucky find. I've been searching for a great Vietnamese place in Cypress. Missed my exit off 290 and happened on Retro Cafe. The Bun (vermicelli bowl) was amazing. So fresh with generous vegetables and cilantro. The wonton soup was the best i have ever had. Don't even think about a meal without starting with the spring rolls. The peanut satay is beyond wonderful. The service is only seconded by the incredible flavor. This is the best value in NW Houston! read more

Tried this new restaurant today for the first time. Very basic decor but the foods the thing, right. I had a spring roll and chicken pho. My wife had a spring roll and a pork vermicelli bowl. The spring rolls were excellent. Good size with plenty of filling. The peanut sauce was very good and loaded with whole peanuts. My Pho was probably the best I've had in our immediate locale (Cypress TX) and we have quite a few Vietnamese restaurants available. The chicken broth was by no means bland, like it can be in some places. They appear to make it fresh with a number of herbs and spices. Noodles were cooked perfectly. Only complaint was that there could have been more chicken and vegetables. Having said that, I did not come away hungry. It was also delivered at a perfect temperature- steaming hot - unlike a few other restaurants we've been to. My wife's vermicelli bowl was pretty good. The grilled pork was very tasty and well seasoned. My wife thought the pork was a bit tough (maybe over cooked) but she did not leave a morsel. The dipping sauce was great and had a bit of a kick. I wound up finishing her last few scraps of vermicelli and lettuce because I liked the sauce so much. The restaurant is small (about 8 tables). You order at the register and they bring the food to you. The service was outstanding. I think it is run by a mother and son and the son provided our service. He was great. Mom was very helpful getting us things from behind the counter. Will definitely return. I am dying to try their Vietnamese Meatball sandwich. Try it, you'll like it. read more

My boyfriend and I tried this restaurant tonight and loved it! We could both get an entree and eat for less than $20 with full bellies. The employees were very welcoming and kind. The Korean wings were the star of the appetizers. The noodle bowls were decent portions but lacking in cilantro and mint. The tables could use a caddy (for spoons, sriracha, s&p) and the place is in dire need of a napkin dispenser. Cool atmosphere and would love to try a banh mi next time. read more

Go there every week i get the spring rolls with extra peanut sauce and the retro wingz are to die for the right amount of spice and the little pickled cubes of i don't know what they are but so good vineragy taste and crunch just amazing im lucky to live 4 minutes away. the pork bahnmi is my favorite as well i love the flavor of the pork and the veggies in it is just heavennn ! love it ! read more

Great sandwiches! The flavoring is great and very fresh tasting. But you might have to eat there on the spot, might not be as good with take out, I would imagine. The egg rolls are great too - but you have to use the sauce with it or it would be bland alone. Great service as well even though it's more a cafe type setting. Decor is neat, though I am not a gamer. Would definitely go back - too bad they are closed on mondays!! read more

Failing to get this right is like trying to tie your shoe with both hands tied behind your back. In the dark. Darkness fell. Our lane had 2 cars in front of us. No problem correct? Problem. We waited. And as we waited for the 2 vehicles in front of us to get their food. No less than 5...yes...5 cars that came in the lane adjacent to us had come in AFTER us...gotten their food...and left BEFORE we even got to the window to pay. I was now weary. 1 vehicle was handed 4 bags of food. I get it. You ordered for a crew. Have them pull out of the lane and spot them while continuing to carry on with additional orders. Not sure if this is policy, or inexperience in industry methods. Anyway... Fortunately, Abraham greeted us at the window. A delightful young man. He greeted both me and my wife with a huge smile courtesy and even called my wife "ma'am". His parents dun good. Spotting the doggy cookies in a jar, I inquired if I may take one home for my monster king shepherd. He didn't blink an eye and grabbed one for the pup and even took time to ask questions about her. Great young man and great service, Abraham. Get a raise already. The food. Well...this is the interesting part...I don't have much to write. My wife and I actually discussed it...and for the first time...we were blank. It was just...an hamburger...from a fast food restaurant. Obviously not a "fresh cooked patty" as the experience cook can spot the dry marks of a cracked piece of ground that has been sitting there...I got plenty of pickles...about ¼ teaspoon of this "special sauce" and literally counted...4 yes...4 little squares of diced onion. I literally made my wife count them to confirm 4 little squares. No problem. With my knife skills I chopped up some at home to add on after the initial taste. Generic Sysco bun. That's literally it. It was just an fast food cheeseburger. Beats the snot out of Micky Dee's and Burger Kang, but falls short of Wendy's. My wife noted if she were caught short and just needed something for the kids...she would stop here after grocery shopping. But not a making a special trip saying "Damn...I'm CRAVING P Terry's". It was just an fast food burger. Couldn't taste the "special sauce" (mayo, ketchup, pickle juice/vinegar, salt) at all. Fries. Don't bother. They are flaccid par-cooked potato sticks with no browning or salt. 80% went in the bin. Sadly...this DID fall WAY short of Micky Dee's. Back to back taste test of the "Pterry's ketchup"...90% sure it is repackaged Heinz. Which is not a bad thing as Heinz is the superior ketchup to all ketchup. We both agreed Wendy's has a better burger and DEFINITELY better fries. But for $11 it is priced well. Just hope this location does not fold. The building is made out of solid concrete, thus the year long build and uglier than sin. Also if you have a big truck. Take the outside line or you will be hopping the curb. Someone didn't measure. Welp. I take back paragraph 6 in hindsight. I did have a lot to say...without really saying anything. This review is like that person you talk to next to the hotel bar on a business trip. You can do it for hours...and not remember a damn thing they said. Wait...did I just simile and metaphor at the same time? TLDR time kids!!! Location? It is close. It is an eye sore. And it is built like a concrete s**thouse. Meh. Staff? Amazing. Abraham, Looking at you my friend. Well done young man. Food? Utterly forgettable. At least it was reasonably priced to ingest calories when I do not feel like cooking...THERE!!! Retro Cafe is honestly everything you could ask for in a Vietnamese cafe. The food was amazing, especially the wings! They were fresh, flavorful, and easily one of the best things on the menu. The drinks and other dishes were just as good, and everything tasted authentic and made with care. I just stumbled across this place when in the Cypress area looking for a place to get my Pho fix. They actually don't have Pho so I was a little disappointed at first. I went ahead and order the vermicelli and it was fantastic. I've been back to this place 3 or 4 times since. The restaraunt is always clean and the food is good.
