A really cool restaurant that has a throwback to the 1980s maybe in 1970s games and toys now granted they are behind glass but they're still really cool to see the old Nintendo and he-man and Transformers. They also have some cool painting over the fun atmosphere as you look at the restaurant. The food is really good. We really enjoyed it over and got the I got a vermicelli. We also got some fried spring eggrolls. The broth was well developed some of that good flavor, but you wanted it to be a little bit more oof when you think about that to make it more desirable the other thing when you look at the add-ons it had for the fun could've really had more stuff to be able to be more desirable. That's what would've made it a five star so for example it's common if you're getting Steak you're getting like steak but meatballs and tripe and maybe even some brisket and so that just takes it to the next level. The vermicelli was a little bit light quantity wise was a little bit smaller than what you'd expect for the price. The staff were friendly and nice and quick at removing items and getting things like extra napkins or forks or chopsticks. Would recommend and if I'm wanting might be back. Just know that it's tough to say it's the best fun in Houston when there's so many different restaurants around town.

I tried this place since it was near my doctor's office, but I was not expecting to find such a good banh mi restaurant all the way up in Cypress! The baguette was very fresh and had a great texture. The grilled pork was delicious and all the other vegetable fillings were fresh and crisp. The butter was nice and creamy. Even my Vietnamese mom who is incredibly picky about banh mi enjoyed the one I bought for her! I chatted up the cashier guy and lady who was making my sandwich and they were very friendly and welcoming which added to my positive experience here!

I didn't see it on the menu so I asked, I did receive, and it was worth it! Their artichoke tea is delicious, refreshing, and comes in two different sizes depending on how indulgent you're feeling. While the shop itself is a bit dark, they decorated the space, and they more than make up for it with super friendly customer service. If you're worried about coming alone, know that there are plenty of single diners there during lunch time and the space stays relatively quiet even when busy. As far as the beef banh mi, it satisfied my craving. They're heavy on the butter, light on the beef, and the jalapeño will not light your mouth on fire. Overall, I'll certainly revisit when I'm in the mood for some artichoke tea.

Good for what it is, but the prices are questionable. The egg rolls were over $5, and they were a bit small. If they were bigger, I could totally justify the price. The rice dish was yummy, and the beef was thin so it was pretty tender. The employees are not the most welcoming or friendly. I came on a weekday evening, and there was only one other group dining in.

Got pork vermicelli with an egg roll and it was delicious there was one piece of meat that was to fatty but besides that it was delicious I especially liked the spicy fish sauce (does not taste like fish and is a really good sauce) on it. I will admit I haven't tasted the other menu items, but this item alone is really good

Oh Retro , Retro where for art thou Retro? We used to go here all the time but we moved from the Cypress area. We were back in town for a couple of days and hubby had to go by and get some Retro Rolls. He absolutely loves these things!! He says and I quote: "It's a warm,, crispy pork egg roll enveloped in a cool, soft layer of veggie and shrimp spring roll wrapped in rice paper with either a peanut or fish sauce for dipping. Tip: Add a little chili oil to make this little bite of heaven all the more better." Service is always friendly and professional. The restaurant is clean and has lots of cool graphic art and old school action figures as decorations

Ambiance: Very casual but I liked seeing the Mario wallpaper! Service: It was warm and welcoming. We felt taken care of. Food: We ordered Pho and Banh Mi. Pho was average, the broth lacked flavor but the Banh Mi was excellent. I loved how the bread was soft and the meat had great flavor. Overall it was an enjoyable experience. We would stop by for a Banh Mi if we are in the area. Great place for family and friends to hang out.

Retro cafe is great! They have high quality food and we frequent take out. The spring rolls and Vietnamese egg rolls are both delicious. The peanut sauce is one of the best I've had and is something you crave after not having for a while. Shaken beef is recommended also. Barn mi sandwiches are okay, still good but not the best thing on the menu. Nice staff! read more

We love this place. It's a little out of the way strip mall restaurant. The customer service is great, I recommend the retro egg rolls, they are very different from normal egg rolls. A fried egg roll wrapped in a spring roll rice paper with veggies. I also love the shredded chicken sandwich, and the chicken fried rice. You need to try this out of the way place. read more

The food is fantastic. It's as good as any Vietnamese food in the Asian area of southwest houston !!! The beef was tender and cooked perfectly. The egg rolls were fresh and delicious! So super friendly! This is how a family restaurant should be. They included my 3 year old daughter in the ordering process with patience. She said she felt so grown up bc they came to our table and asked her how she liked her food. Their banh mi are so good! The prices are fair, portions are adequate, and they just taste delicious. The only thing I wish is their appetizer portion of wonton soup came in a super sized portion with noodles and all the fixings! Other than that, I love this place! read more

The food isn't the problem. The woman who answers the phone/checks out is so incredibly rude. My spouse tried to be patient as she clearly is ESL but she was short with him and then when she got the order incorrect and he tried to explain that. She was very disrespectful telling him he ordered what he hadn't, I was there the whole time- I know what he ordered and he was clear. Instead of just offering to make it right she got even more irritated. So he just walked out. We've been ordering from here for years because the food is consistent, but now we will take our business elsewhere. I know poor customer service is everywhere now - but small businesses shouldn't behave like this. read more

Very new clean friendly service . It's fresh made when you order . I could taste the freshness of the egg rolls made with authentic style . My wife and I visit this place a few times a month. I think it's underrated as the food is fantastic. It's a family run restaurant, the people are always friendly and accommodating. I'd give them a five star if they had a slightly larger selection of Pho and Vermicelli dishes but everything they make and serve is outstanding. read more

First of all, I was very disappointed when we moved further out in Cypress that there wasn't a Vietnamese restaurant nearby. I've eaten there twice so far and I'll tell you, I'd eat there everyday if I could. The meat is flavorful and delicious. The egg rolls are amazing and their wonton soup is awesome. My mom usually adds a bunch of stuff to her pho broth and she didn't have to add a thing to theirs. It was amazing all by itself. I love this place and I HIGHLY recommend it! Also, the staff are awesome and very sweet! read more

My favorite go to restaurant in Cypress right now and I do not expect that to change anytime soon. I have been there at least once a week for months now and the staff greets me/so sweet and friendly. My favorites are the shredded chicken sandwich, chicken vermicelli bowl, pho, wonton soup, spring rolls and korean wings. Beware though the wings will bite. I forgot to add how much I love their fresh juice!! Gamma Detox is my favorite. read more

Unfortunately I don't eat pork it makes me sick . The owners mom thinks it's a problem when I ask for no pork in my egg rolls . Also when I mentioned she sneezed all over the veggies while cutting them up . She cussed me out after I ask them to tell her after I left so not to embarrass her . But instead she yelled and caused a seen . I've been a costumer since they opened. I ate 3 times a week here. I will no longer recommend them ever ! They lost a great costumer. I heard good things about this place and while I was in town, it was almost an hour away from where I was staying. Nonetheless I decided to give it a try and I'm happy I did. Food I'm very picky on bread and the bread they use for their banh mi is awesome. It feels like the bread just came out of the oven. I had the steak banh mi and the steak was very well seasoned and had a good portion of steak inside. Nothing worse then biting into a banh mi and getting just bread and no filling. Other than that, fresh crisp vegetables and a wonderful homemade mayo that I should have asked for the recipe to make at home. It was actually so good, after I ate I asked for another order to go so I could eat later on at night. I also had the pho which you could tell a lot of care was put into it. The broth was light but very savory, the meatballs and the steak was well seasoned and on top of all of that, the quantity that came surprised me. Texas sized pho! What really impressed me other than the food was the service. It's rare to walk in a place and see regular customers be greeted by their first names. This is a place that when you walk in you can tell that it's family run and these people pour their heart into their business. A couple extra notes was that I loved the shelf full of figures, the customized bar table with comic illustration and the 2 retro arcade machines really make this place seem like a good place to eat and spend some time around. read more

Visited the restaurant around 1pm because I did not wanted to drive into town for my favorite grilled pork sandwich. Very disappointed on the service and the attendant picked my meats put on a container to warm it in the microwave. But wait he did not place it in the microwave he threw it in the microwave. I did not wanted to cause a seen so just did not say a word. With that level of service and attitude NOT visiting. I really had my hopes high but my dreams crushed. read more

I've been here a few times and have been pleased with the banh mi sandwiches, egg rolls, and spring rolls. Minus one star for the wait time when ordering in the restaurant. I would recommend ordering ahead and picking up or delivery. As of this review, I have seen the same cars parked in the front row of the restaurant the times I've visited which tells me the employees are parking there. They may consider leaving those spots for the customers. read more

It was a shopping day with the wife and daughter with lunch at The Cheesecake Factory. We started off with the Egg Roll Sampler Appetizer and it was a great start. The variety of tastes was the star of the show mixing and matching, trying to find the best sauce ratio. My favorite was the chicken taquito. My wife loved the cheeseburger and I can't fault her for it because they were great. Obviously my wife has great taste. My daughter said the Avocado egg roll was the best. I tried it and hated it, AVOCADOS ARE GROSS! For our entrees my daughter got the Seared Tuna Tataki Salad, my wife ordered the soup (cream of chicken) and salad with Caesar dressing. I decided to try something new and got the Steak Diane (woo hoo retro.) My daughter's Seared Ahi Tuna Salad was fantastic. The tuna was cooked well, though it could've been a bit more fatty. The salad was fresh and crisp and the dressing was bright and tangy with undernotes of sesame oil. My wife's soup and salad was great. The soup was homey and reminiscent of a rich pot pie. The Caesar dressing on the salad was spectacular. It was creamy and tangy just like Caesar should be. Now for my Steak Diane, I'm so glad I decided to try something new. You know, take me back to the fancy restaurants of the mid century because this dish was divine. The steak was in bite sized pieces but cooked perfectly. I loved the richness of the Diane sauce and the crisp mushrooms. For desert we had the Pineapple Upside Down cheese cake. It was delicious, a wonderful sweet desert that was the perfect light and airy end to a heavy lunch. I recommend The Cheesecake Factory in Cypress if you're in the area. Or if you're looking for someplace that feels special and fancy but you want to know it's going to not disappoint. And do yourself a favor and order something new, it's worth it. Almost forgot the drinks- My daughter got a Bloody Mary. I didn't try it because BLOODY MARYs are gross. I got the Spanish Old Fashioned. I think I like this better than a regular Old Fashioned. Retro Cafe is honestly everything you could ask for in a Vietnamese cafe. The food was amazing, especially the wings! They were fresh, flavorful, and easily one of the best things on the menu. The drinks and other dishes were just as good, and everything tasted authentic and made with care. On top of that, the vibe here is incredible: cozy, aesthetic, welcoming, and the perfect place to relax or hang out with friends. I had a great experience at Retro Cafe thanks to the friendly and accommodating staff. Phoenix and Tony went above and beyond to provide excellent customer service. When I received the wrong order, Phoenix was quick to offer a solution and invited me back to make things right. I just stumbled across this place when in the Cypress area looking for a place to get my Pho fix. They actually don't have Pho so I was a little disappointed at first. I went ahead and order the vermicelli and it was fantastic. I've been back to this place 3 or 4 times since. The restaraunt is always clean and the food is good. Prices are more than you would pay at fast food of course but reasonable. read more

I came in today to grab some Pho, egg rolls and chicken fried rice and it was DELICIOUS! We live out in the Hempstead/Waller area and used to work in Atascocita. There was one of my favorite Pho places out there, but it's not realistic to drive to. Found this little gem by its reviews and tried it out and I will be coming now all the time. read more
