This place was a dump! The food was awful and the place didn't possess any of the character other yelpers described. There were no peanut shells on the ground, no peanuts. The dismal environment should've been a signal as what was to come. We ordered a combo: tri tip and links, and a half slab of baby backs. With each item, you get two sides. The baby backs were tender, but the flavor was all in the sauce smothering the ribs. The ribs on their own weren't very flavorful. They didn't taste like they'd been barbecued well at all, no smoky flavors -- more like it had been baked in an oven. The links weren't even home made, but store-bought. It was so disappointing. The tri-tip was disgusting. There were grill marks on the slices of tri-tip -- who grills the tri tip after it's been sliced? No wonder it was dry and leathery. The sides were better -- collard greens, spicy slaw, bbq beans, mac and cheese -- all had decent flavor but everything was served sloppily like it was thrown together without a thought or care in the world. Corn bread and garlic bread are served upon request, but why bother when they aren't bothered to serve you something they've made out of love? The corn muffins -- yeah not even made in a pan -- tasted like store bought, the garlic bread was hard and cold. That's right -- COLD. In fact, our entire meal was pretty cold except for the meat which tasted like it had been nuked before it came to the table. The mac n cheese was cold too. Honestly, for $52 it was so not worth it. We didn't even eat the tri-tip it was THAT bad. I'm shocked they are still in business. My friend said it was good 10 years ago, but this meal tasted nothing like the one 10 years ago. LA doesn't lack much but I do think there are two categories it needs some help: a proper seafood establishment and proper rib joint. After visiting Ribs USA my mind is not changed. It had such promise - minimal decor, (including bright florescent lighting, tv's and mirrors everywhere and wooden booths) peanuts to eat and then throw on the concrete floor -- ah, this Southern gal was looking forward to fall-off-the-bone-down-home-cookin'. I hate to say it but I was disappointed. The cornbread tasted like the box kind you can buy on the bottom of the aisle for .35 (I know, I buy it too). The collard greens lacked any kind of seasoning and speaking of seasoning...well...didn't love the rib sauce. It wasn't hickory-smokey enough for me. The flavor lacked depth. Don't get me wrong, it had potential, the tang was nice and it had a good thickness but it wasn't quite there. The meat itself was also not quite there. I am used to basically being able to suck the meat right off the bone, to have it fall on my plate (or my lap) as I am munching contentedly on the bone. Can they be any less efficient? You order your food at 4:30 and at 5:30, you are still waiting for your food. Along with a twenty to thirty other hangry people. Bags and bags of take out orders hang on these hooks. Do they call out any names? No, DH had to "suggest" 3 times they do this...and lo and behold, we helped some of those "hangry" people get some of their food. Did those hangry people thank us? No, of course not, they were too hangry. One person seemed stuck on helping on guy get his complete order. Hey, while the kitchen is "making" that dish, why not help the other 30-40 people? Yes...because you know when you're that inefficient, the lines get even longer. Longer and hangrier. It's hot as hell in there. No A/C! Wanted to love this place b/c it's "geographically desirable." Alright, this place is good, but their new sushi/bbq place? I'm not quite sure how this is gonna pan out. At first I LOVED the idea (I still kinda do), but my fiance and I went in last week and I gave it a go, diversified from my usual tri tip and went with the sushi. For the price, it's definitely not bad. It was presented very beautifully and was made great, but the quality of the fish was nothing extraordinary. C'mon people, if you are REALLY wanting good sushi, I doubt you will go to a bbq joint anyways. They do have a bbq/sushi plate like you would get at any teriyaki place and for that I love them...they also serve all their sushi with miso soup ...yummy!! Yuuuuck... definitely NOT the best BBQ I've ever had by any means. The BBQ is super messy here and the sauce is plain. We ordered the beef ribs... and although they looked big, they actually barely had any meat on 'em! The sides aren't much better. The sweet potato fries were extremely dry, plus the mac 'n cheese was equally dry... I think even boxed mac 'n cheese is better! The salad sucked as well. Sadly, the best part of the whole meal was the garlic bread (although it's actually "toast"), but even that was still overly crusty. They shouldn't use the word, "Ribs" in their name when they do ribs so poorly. My usual order for years has been the Presidential Platter. I notice a decline of their BBQ from the past year. I also noticed a change in staff over a year ago. The ribs are no longer fall off the bone tender. On one lunch visit the ribs were dry and tasted warmed over. On another visit this year the ribs tasted boiled. Their also have been a decline of other items. The chicken is dry and other meats tasting like it was reheated from days in the refrigerator. First of all, none of us need to be lectured about what barbecue is and how it's supposed to be done, because in case you haven't heard there are many, many styles of barbecue so one needn't have such a tight butt about barbecue. I've driven past this jernt forever but never had the desire to try it. But someone posted something about it and so I came to read these "reviews." Any restaurant that veers wildly from five stars to one star gets me there to try it. I went to lunch on Saturday last with a friend. Only a few people there, all eating huge portions of food and seemingly cleaning those huge plates. I had to try the pulled pork sandwich, of course, a side of three baby back ribs and the mac-and-cheese. My dining partner had a half rack of baby ribs. Service was great and food arrived in a timely manner. It took me, as always, a few minutes to get used to the sauce - it's on the sweet side, not quite as good as the Kansas City Barbecue in NoHo, but after a couple of minutes I was quite taken with it. The pulled pork sandwich was great - succulent meat perfectly done. I'm not one of these meat falls off the rib people - I rarely find that and find that it's the luck of the draw no matter what barbecue place you're in. The ribs were excellent - meat didn't fall off the bone, but no fatty bits, which I can't stand, and again the meat had wonderful flavor. The mac-and-cheese immediately entered the top five in LA, just great. My dining partner liked her ribs very much and she, too, loved the mac-and-cheese. So, we get to the one issue and it's not an insignificant one - The Cockroach. Yes, there was a lovely and quite sizable cockroach crawling on our table at some point - I swatted it off and it disappeared somewhere. The bbq ribs, the corn bread, the mac and cheese was all weak. Customer service was awesome. But the food is not as good as before. I don't like writing one star reviews, however, we seriously were served stale peanuts, old chicken that we had to saw to cut, and less then a full rack of ribs (although we ordered the full rack); The steamed vegetables were old, (they were not steamed), and the carrots were so old they were turning whiteish. We were the only ones in the place (late lunch at 4:00) and still our service was meh. Ribs USA used to be my go-to place to get barbeque in Burbank, but I hadn't been there is quite a while. I recall being able to get a couple of whole chickens for a decent price and decided to get take out. I will say that the BBQ chicken has never let me down. It was tender and tasty and the sauce delicious and plentiful and the price was not bad... $12.99 for a whole chicken I also ordered a half rack of baby backs, which was $14.99 and on the skimpy side and a bit dry. Side orders - Mac and cheese which was a great disappointment and not at all how I remembered the last time we had it - pretty tasteless... needed more cheese and seasoning or ??? I don't know what would have made it better. I tried to re-season it at home. Needless to say, we had a container full of it that everyone tasted and nobody ate. Barbequed beans - more like BBQ beans soup. At least half of the container was sauce. Corn muffins - tasty, slightly sweet, moist - yummy. Ribs USA is neither here nor there. There are better rib joints in Los Angeles, but when I think of Ribs USA, I think of "comfort". Ribs USA, located in the REAL "Hollywood" of Burbank, California, is located near the intersection of Olive and Buena Vista, convenient to Disney, Warner Bros., NBC, and countless production houses. The first time I had Ribs USA, it was the mid-nineties and I was working in feature animation. One of my coworkers had this BBQ for lunch (I think they were babybacks), and at the time I tried it, I thought to myself, "THIS is what barbeque is supposed to taste like!!" Flash forward to today and I've had ribs from all sorts of places, but when I think of Ribs USA, it's like a homecoming for me. The BBQ sauce, although not the créme de la créme of sauces, is almost stereotypically "barbeque" in flavor. To me, it's a nice polygamous marriage of tangy, sweet, and smokey. Some would say that it might lack character, like BBQ-flavored potato chips, but in a variety pack aren't those one of the first to go? The portions here are ample, and enough to make you do a double-take when the servers place orders on other diners' tables. The meat, although not the most tender you'll ever sink your teefers into, is still perfectly fine (and plentiful!). This is Ribs USA, for chrissake!! The sides, although not the best you'll ever eat, have yet to cause me any complaints. The setting is casual; the joint has a mixture of sawdust and crushed peanut shells littering the floor. There's a big screen TV broadcasting some sports event on the wall, and there's a short counter that looks like a bar, but almost never get used as one. You get takeout cups when you order your soda (unlimited refills at a dispenser), and there's a big barrel of peanuts at the entrance of the dining area. Beer and wine is also available, as is a take-out counter right when you enter the restaurant. One inconvenience to eating here is the sliver of parking in the back of the restaurant. There's room for what? maybe five or six cars? The the entrance to the lot is also narrow, so don't think of trying to park your suburban back there. Still, the place gets busy during mealtimes, so you'll probably have to pass the spaces and exit through the back alley and find street parking. Ribs USA may not be the alpha and omega of the 'Que. When you venture out into the big, bad world, you realize that there's better stuff out there, better sides, meat that more tender, but sometimes it's nice to go back to the old neighborhood. Blah. I was really hoping for better when I'd seen the happy reviews of this place, but it was so lackluster that hubby and I were disappointed. So much so that he decided his first Yelp review was going to be on the sadness that is Ribs USA. Let's continue on - we ordered one of their combo meals to go. It had four beef ribs, six pork ribs, 1/2 BBQ chicken, cornbread, and two sides (we picked mac 'n cheese and baked beans). The food was fine, but very generic. I could taste the Smart & Final. Especially in the baked beans. The mac 'n cheese was like old-school paste glue mixed with velveeta and a whole can of pepper. Yuck-o-saurus. We also decided to splurge and got a sampler platter, which had a sausage, onion rings, sweet potato fries, shrimp, chicken wings, rib tips, and possibly something else that I'm forgetting. Fine. Just fine. This place is pretty pricey, too. Our total came to about $60. The only reasons I see myself going back to this restaurant is to get the onion rings and sweet potato fries, to try one of their sandwiches, or to partake in a pitcher of beer and peanuts. Now i had been waiting for a good Southern Cali ribs experience and I finally had it !!!! Great service from a friendly duo of servers that got us our food and beverages. Good list of beers on tap and by the bottle to choose from as well. The NFL season opener was on and the game was on the flat screens al around us. There were two screens on kids show for the younger crowd. I ordered the Tri-tip, Baby Back ribs & beef ribs combo for $25.99 and I can tell you i was filled, amazed and absolutely satisfied. My sides of cole slaw and fries were perfect as just that..SIDES...they didn't distract from the meal and task at hand but helped fill the gaps between a swag of beer, licking the bbq sauce off my fingers and taking another bite. The restaurant is not very large but they did a great job of spacing out the tables so you have some sort of privacy while you dive into your plate. The service was very friendly, although at times it was hard to get her attention. Which was interesting considering we were one of 3 tables occupied. But she did bring us some rib bibs and I'm a sucker for restaurant bibs! (Don't ask!) Needless to say when I got back to work I used up most of my energy trying to stay awake at my desk! Great ribs....I'm very picky but these are awesome....3 stars because I ordered ribs with BBQ beans and spicy slaw (instead of the salad) but when they brought out my food it was ribs and mashed potatoes only.....then when they brought the missing items they brought the BBQ beans and Mac and cheese...no spicy slaw ....didn't want to say anything else after that.....maybe next time I'm around I'll get the spicy slaw (One extra star cuz the ribs are awesome!! ) read more

Definitely going back. I was a little hesitant to try this place out but I'm glad I did. The ribs and the sauce were delicious.

Don't let the exterior or interior put you off--THE FOOD IS GREAT! Family owned and operated for 30 years. I ordered the BBQ combo with a side of greens. Let me be honest, I thought, "What could this guy know about American BBQ." Boy, was I wrong? The sauce was good. The meat was cooked right. The beef rib was huge too. Ummmm sitting here now just in awe of how damn good this food is!!! I'm from the south and this is true southern BBQ. Tender ribs , incredible pulled pork sandwich. The Mac n cheese is beyonddd yum. Love Ribs USA - very delicious ribs. Don, the owner & Danny the manager are very nice guys! I recommend everything on the menu! & I love that they put peanuts on the table as soon as you sit down, like a little snack! (-: I have been there quite a few times for special occasions & the food & service never fails. I love the baby back ribs & beef ribs, those are my favorite. Workers there are all very kind as well, as they should be. No issues at all. Restrooms & the dining area are kept very clean, as well as Where you get the beverages.
