Spanish Yellow Rice ( moro de guandulez) and stew chicken

The food was delicious. The staff were sweet. It would help if you spoke Spanish. There are seats to dine in, but most people order the food to go. Quick in and out. They also serve alcohol if you are interested.

Now their name might be misleading as there's plenty more to grub on here than rice and beans! Coming here it was all about that delicious bowl mix with some veggies meat and rice as you really can't go wrong with that stew like concoction! They also had empanadas we had one that was filled with cheese it was yummy and different as I haven't had one before that only had cheese the meat one was just perfect as well had a good flavor to it and a good crunch to the outside of the fried goodness! Their plantains were also yummy as deliciously hot when I got them as you really can't go wrong when they are fresh! Overall this was a mellow little spot with some yummy flavors and a total Latin vibe that really hit the spot on this given night with that said hopefully I'll get here again at some point because those flavors were just right!

I ordered the mofongo with chicharron. I was expecting the plantains to be served with a broth, but it came out dry. When you order it with crispy fried chicharron, it makes for a pretty dry lunch. The flavor was good, though, so I can't knock the quality. They were doing pretty brisk business while I was waiting for my order, so I'm guessing that the other menu items must be pretty good.

Excellent lunch stop. Meant to take a photo of the front, but forgot. Never mind, it's not hard to find, 17th Street between Market and Derry Sts. just a couple of blocks from Derry. Good size parking lot adjacent, between R&B and (believe it or not) a different Mexican restaurant. Remember the days when there was almost no decent Mexican food in Harrisburg? The restaurant wasn't half full when we arrived around noon. The dining room is bright, clean and well lit. Grab a menu and seat yourself, but the best food is arrayed in steam tables next to the counter. Have an employee grab a plate and start pointing. Warning, you'll want to try everything! Opted this visit for Roast pork, sliced by hand from a huge joint of luscious, fatty pork shoulder. Started with a huge portion of dirty rice, rice cooked with black beans, with more beans and broth ladled over. Added sweet plantains. Also available were chicken, chicken wings, empanadas, lasagna, and a host of other dishes. Everything was cooked to perfection. Rice and beans were among the best tasting I've ever had. Also blown away by the plantains and the pork, which had the most amazing chewy, candied bark. Pepsi products available, cooler of other bottled drinks, minus a 'quarter star' for having water only in plastic bottles (which I gave up years ago). Service was friendly, and the price was very reasonable. Definitely worth a return visit, or two or three! Check it out!

    Good food, better company.

It was November 30th, 2021 when my buddy Al calls and asked what I was doing. Going to Rice and Beans to grab something to eat. So, being this was Al's first time, I explained that the portion sizes were plentiful, so don't fill your eyes before your stomach. I walked him through the ordering process and we had a seat to wait on our meals. I had some of the same, but this time I added a side dish of Sweet Plantiains. While I know there are other places to explore, I can't get enough of Rice and Beans!

I came into the brand new Allison Hill Gem and was warmly greeted by the staff. I was thrilled to find out that they were from NYC and had a restaurant over there too! In my opinion the best eats are in NY, so I was pleased to find one here! I ordered fried chicken and plantains and it was ready in about 10 mins. I also ordered Torta which was pressed , gooey and warm. Just the way a Sammie should be! I had sweet plaintains to go. They are very clean, and courteous. The food is flavorful and stick to your gut good! The portions are generous and I had enough to take home. I highly recommend this place. They have Mexican food as well as American food, in case you have picky friends. Great for a hearty break fast... oh yea, they have grits too! Lol

Authentic Latin food Amazing see this layout of food. Reminds me of upper Jersey/NY/PR. The food was awesome and the taste was delicious. This was a Great experience of what I miss. So it diffently a must try if you're in this area. The price is reasonable.

They don't tell you that this can't be eaten in there ,

The payment was processed through GrubHub with no delivery fee since I picked it up myself! The location was easy to find. There's a huge, gorgeous mural on the side of the building. I wasn't quite sure where I "could" park, but there is no shortage of parking in the area, to include two lots on each side. Walking in was a little confusing too. Could be because we used the App to order, maybe they thought we were pros. We weren't greeted when we came in and we didn't really know what to do. We asked the people sitting at the bar about an order and they pointed to a bag on the table. That was a little confusing too because the App said the order wasn't ready and no one was really talking so we were a lil unsure and it was a lotta awkward. They lost a star for that. No worries though. We got home. It was our order. It was delicious. It was at a great price!! I will definitely be going back! Did I mention their potato balls are to die for? Seriously, you'll want to try them.

Friday night in Harrisburg, and Los Tres Cubanos was already buzzing by 5 p.m. (pro tip: they open…read moreat 4 -- make a reservation if you want inside seating). We rolled in without one but happily claimed a little café table outside. The weather was warm, the cocktails were cold, and our waitress checked in often enough that our glasses never sat empty for long. We kicked things off with the beef empanadas ($9 for two big ones) and -- oh my goodness -- these were dream-level empanadas. Golden-brown, fried crisp on the outside yet soft and tender inside, stuffed with simply seasoned, flavorful ground beef. The tangy-sweet red sauce they came with was the perfect co-star. I'd come back for these alone. Cocktails ran about $12 each. I had the Havana Special (fresh pineapple juice, Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur, and Cruzan Rum) -- tropical, bright, and just sweet enough. My adventure buddy ordered the Canchanchara (honey, lime, rum, and chilled water -- said to be Cuba's oldest cocktail), which was refreshing and citrusy, perfect for a summer night. For dinner, I went for the Camarones Enchilados ($27) -- Cuban-style shrimp in Creole sauce with white rice and sweet fried plantains. Generous serving of perfectly cooked shrimp in a savory tomato-based sauce with diced peppers, onion, and garlic... I brought half home, but not before finishing every last plantain. The sauce was light but packed with flavor, and the rice soaked it up like a champ. Adventure buddy ordered the Cuban Fried Rice ($25) -- shrimp, ham, chicken, and sweet plantain all fried together, topped with an egg. The rice had that crispy-but-soft magic, the proteins were tender and flavorful, and while he wished the egg had been runny, it was still well-executed. Another giant portion, another take-home box. Our bill for two was about $100, and every dollar felt well spent. Los Tres Cubanos is tucked just outside the hustle of downtown, which makes it easy to miss -- but don't. Between the authentic flavors, generous portions, and charming atmosphere, it's worth seeking out. And bonus: you can stroll the nearby Susquehanna River Walk afterward to justify ordering that second empanada next time.

The food was pretty good…read more For an appetizer, we had Croquetas. No lime wedges as described. The filling was interesting, and the sauce was a sweet salsa. These were good but not great. My Cuban sandwich (La Cubanita) was terrific (best item we had). My son's Pan Con Lechon (pork sandwich) was dry. It was missing the sauce described on the menu. My daughter liked the Camarones Enchilados (shrimp entre), and my spouse liked her Lechon Asado (pork entre). For dessert, we had coconut cheesecake (my son loved it), chocolate cake (which was just okay), and empanadas with cheese and guava filling, which were really good. My issue, more than the food, was the service. We made a reservation for 7, and it took about 10 minutes to get seated, which would be okay, but the waitress/hostess was needlessly busy with one of two tables in the restaurant (she took care of multiple issues with them when seating us would have taken only a moment). She also seated us in a somewhat cramped space when a larger one was available (my children are adults, and my son is tall). I got the feeling we were inconveniencing her. I also tried to engage in small talk with the bartender. He was rude, which I initially thought might be due to a language issue. Later, he yelled at customers who came in after 9, so I began to feel that he might actually be rude. The entrees took a long time, 80 minutes from when we were seated. We ordered them at the same time as the appetizer, which came out quickly. Additionally, desserts took a considerable amount of time. The waitress explained that the chef had burnt the first batch of empanadas and was making them again. I would have liked the option not to have them, as it was after 9 pm at that point. We were there for 2.5 hours along with several other tables (perhaps 8 in total). This was likely due in part to there being only one waitress and the bartender/owner, who seemingly did nothing but make two or three drinks the whole night (in addition to yelling at potential future customers). It was also quite expensive given the experience we had. I would have had more fun at Tres Hermanos on Cameron at a third of the cost and without the yelling. I will not be back, although I may order a sandwich in the future and eat it by the river.
