The food is set up on a steam table so you know exactly what your food looks like as you're ordering and they plate it in front of you. I decided to order baked chicken, white rice, beans and sweet plantains. After ordering my food I picked the table I wanted to sit at and the server brought my food over with utensils and napkins. I wanted a champagne cola to drink but they didn't have anymore so I went with an ice cold Malta. The food was delicious. The presentations were impressive and the flavors were on point. The mofongo was definitely garlic forward, and the rice was delicious. However, the meats were overcooked. The chicken had a nice crunch but the meat was dry. The shrimp was chewy and I wished someone had deveined it. The mussels were small and a bit rubbery. Our server was congenial and helpful in guiding us with our order. He was attentive and patient as we took some time to decide what we wanted to try. The menu was quite extensive. There were two prices: a lower one if you paid cash and a higher price if you used a credit card. Other patrons seemed to be regulars who knew exactly what they wanted. They also had empanadas we had one that was filled with cheese it was yummy and different as I haven't had one before that only had cheese the meat one was just perfect as well had a good flavor to it and a good crunch to the outside of the fried goodness! Their plantains were also yummy as deliciously hot when I got them as you really can't go wrong when they are fresh! I ordered the mofongo with chicharron. I was expecting the plantains to be served with a broth, but it came out dry. When you order it with crispy fried chicharron, it makes for a pretty dry lunch. The flavor was good, though, so I can't knock the quality. Grab a menu and seat yourself, but the best food is arrayed in steam tables next to the counter. Have an employee grab a plate and start pointing. Warning, you'll want to try everything! Opted this visit for Roast pork, sliced by hand from a huge joint of luscious, fatty pork shoulder. Started with a huge portion of dirty rice, rice cooked with black beans, with more beans and broth ladled over. Added sweet plantains. Also available were chicken, chicken wings, empanadas, lasagna, and a host of other dishes. Everything was cooked to perfection. Rice and beans were among the best tasting I've ever had. Also blown away by the plantains and the pork, which had the most amazing chewy, candied bark. Pepsi products available, cooler of other bottled drinks, minus a 'quarter star' for having water only in plastic bottles (which I gave up years ago). They have a lot where you can go ahead and park your vehicle free of charge. Upon entering the diner I noticed that the place was clean and there was a lot of movement, so patrons coming and going. I ordered some yellow rice and gandules as well as pigs feet and chicharrones. The food was delicious and the portion was average size. The price for the meal and the associated drink was more than reasonable for the portion size. Overall I would return for another lunch or dinner. Decided to try delivery from this place. We got a chicken dinner. The chicken was blande not at all what I was hoping for based on the marinated chickens I had growing up in Miami. I was surprised that t came with white rice. Maybe I should've looked at the pictures better. The beans were just ok. It was a decent size meal though I don't think anyone was that content with it. I came into the brand new Allison Hill Gem and was warmly greeted by the staff. I was thrilled to find out that they were from NYC and had a restaurant over there too! In my opinion the best eats are in NY, so I was pleased to find one here! I ordered fried chicken and plantains and it was ready in about 10 mins. Then we sat down on a table that was half clean, we sat there for 5 minutes before I had to ask someone if we had to get up and order or someone would come to take our order, she came to the table and asked how can I help you without even giving us a menu. I said I needed the menu, then she brings us the menu and stands there, I had to tell her we wasn't ready. She then comes back 1 minute later, I told her we wasn't ready still. Then she doesn't come back for another 10 minutes. then we ordered chicharrón de pollo with white rice and beans, I asked if they will put pieces of riped plantains like the picture. she said she will add it and I asked for a salad. Then she comes back and brings only 2 of the orders and tells me I had to wait for the third one because they only made 2 orders. Once she brings the food the chicharrón aren't chicharrón they are just fried pieces of chicken. Then I asked her where was the plantains, where was the salad. she then comes with it after I had to remind her. she didn't bring the vinegar, salt. I had to ask. Then the vinegar had a piece of hair inside. I took pictures hopefully I can add it so you can see it. my kids and I left the food. Ate here for the first time today. Lunch. The food was delicious. I had the "buffet," that is I chose from the already-prepared food. I had black beans and rice with gravy, fried plantains, broccoli, roasted pork. Other choices included roasted chicken, barbecued chicken wings, pepper steak, meatballs, fried chicken breast, tripe stew. I had lots of tasty food for $10. My companion also ate from what was prepared but had the pepper steak and chicken wings as his entree. This was his second visit to the restaurant. The menu describes the food as Spanish and American. I would add that the word "Spanish" includes what I would call Mexican and Latin American cuisine. The decor is simple, no frills, but there are large windows so it's bright. The staff was very friendly. I will go back. There are many items on the menu I'd like to try. read more

The food is pretty good! If you come here I highly suggest ordering something they have already prepared in one of their hot trays. The reason I recommend doing this is due to my experience. I ordered a torta which is a sandwich, typically takes under 15 minutes to make however by the time I received mine, my wife who was eating with me was already done with her meal because my sandwich took over 40 minutes to arrive. I had asked the "server" about my sandwich after the first 20 minutes and she said it will be out shortly so I patiently waited, then as one of the cooks was laughing walking around he recognized me and pointed and yelled something in Spanish (clearly exclaiming that he forgot about my order) and within 5 minutes of that I had my sandwich. This place is not well organized and you are not greeted upon entering. I was even confused if I should sit down and order or order at the cash register. The food was decent though that's the first time I had American cheese on a torta. The price for two people comes to around $20. Again if you come here I recommend just ordering from their pre-made meals. I left slightly disappointed as I had such high hopes for this place. I may come back as my wife enjoyed her meal. Positive restaurant eating experience My family and I have had breakfast and Dinner at this Diner, I have to say it is always an excellent eating experience.. from walking in the door and being greeted by an employee, seated and drink order taken, the meal was served hot and the taste was excellent. The server was very friendly and helpful. I grew up in Allison Hill and I knew the location, I truly appreciate that they came into town and they took the time and care to invest in the diner and remodeled it. It is an awesome place to dine with friends and family. Although the area has several Latin restaurants, by far this place super exceeds all the others in term of a calm environment, cleanliness, customer service, preparation of food, the taste of food.
