The food was delicious! I got a custom Bulgogi Bibimbap with lettuce, broccoli, Bulgogi beef, spicy cucumbers and white rice! The gochujang sauce I got separate at the little sauce bar. Rice Bar is one of my favorite places to eat in the area. You can choose a standard bibimbap order from the menu or create your own! You can also order your bowl with noodles, but I've yet to do so. I typically order my bowl with white or black rice, kale, carrots, bean sprouts, roasted seaweed, ground beef, and a fried egg--which really tops it off. If you haven't had bibimbap before, I recommend getting it with gochujang (red pepper paste sauce), sesame oil, and sesame seeds. There is also an additional condiment station by the door if you'd prefer more sauces on the side. read more

Came here for a Saturday night dinner on a whim and because I was in the area after visiting the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and wanted something quick and light. From the outside, Rice Bar looked almost like a hip coffee shop with its communal high tables & chairs and brightly lit setting. The inside is spacious, modern and clean. The concept is basically self-serve fast Korean food, where customers choose their selection on a piece of paper and hand it to the staff behind the counter. Their choices include Bibimbap rice bowls, Noodles and Sizzling Plates. You get a choice of rice, 4 toppings and 1 protein and additional cost for anything extra. Toppings include your typical Korean sides such as bean sprouts, kimchi, cucumbers, and a few other additional basics such as edamame, broccoli, seaweed, etc. Although I wished there were more authentic Korean sides I get that they are trying to appeal to the diversity of visitors. Everything is served in a stainless steel bowl unless you want to pay extra for the hot stone bowl. Overall, I was pleasingly surprised by the quality and variety of the ingredients for what is considered a chain fast-food restaurant. The Eggplant and Mushroom were surprisingly good and the Kalbi was very tender and savory. The service was also friendly and fast, which you usually don't expect at fast-food places. This was definitely one of the better choices for quick lunch or dinner in the area. Tip: Go early if you want Bulgogi because they run out quick. read more

Really good cold rainy day spot. I was craving Korean yellow curry and my boyfriend wanted noodles so this was the closest spot that satisfied both of our cravings. Neither of us have been here before because typically whenever we do crave this stuff it's usually after 8 or on day they aren't open, so we were very happy to see they were open when we wanted it! The restaurant itself is definitely more grab and go and less sit down but that option is still there and that is the one we opted for because of the weather. Very clean and bright atmosphere. You have the option of ordered a fixed menu item or you can customize it as you please. I got the chicken curry with chicken katsu and my boyfriend got a customized chicken udon soup. We also got a side of veggie dumplings. Everything was delicious and the perfect portion size! I was so impressed with the service. The staff helped us with our selections and made recommendations since it was our first time. We opted for the hot stone bowl and highly recommend it! It made our food hot the entire meal and added some sizzle. I cannot say enough good things about the fresh offerings from flavorful black rice, delicious beef bulgogi, fresh vegetable and sides, and a variety of sauces to try to your liking. We loved the shrimp dumplings and the soda offerings had a nice variety (it did taste a bit like the chlorine, but I'm not marking it down for that). I was very excited to try this fast casual Korean rice bar. The concept is you build your own bowl or can choose one of their own specialties. I opted for the beef bulgogi bibimbap. A lady who appeared to be the owner or manager greeted me at the beginning of the line and wasn't friendly one bit. I think sometimes they get people who have no idea how this concept works, but I had it together and had even filled out a paper noting what I wanted in my bowl (you can fill out the paper when you walk in so they know exactly what you want). Next up were two employees who were barely putting toppings on. It gave me a "the owner/manager is watching how much of a topping I place in your bowl" vibe. Very strange. I was a little worried the overall portion of the bowl wouldn't fill me, but it was just the right amount. I decided to give Rice Bar three stars not because of the lack of friendliness but because everything tasted pretty bland. She referred me back to the line worker who then got loud with me.. trying to explain why she couldn't do so? And Im standing their confused? and asking but WHY. I discovered this brightly lit, conveniently located little spot with YUMMY food!! I got a spicy chicken rice bowl and loved it. The texture of the rice was very nice - kinda sticky. The recommended sauces accentuated the bowl very well. The orange hibiscus soda was yum! Even the filtered ice water tastes noticeably clean and delicious!!
