This was a fantastic place to grab lunch! Although, it was super busy and very limited seating so I'd suggest to arrive before opening if you're grabbing lunch on the weekend - not sure what the weekdays look like. I arrived roughly 10 minutes before opening and there was already a line, I was lucky enough to be able to grab the last available seat and that was because I was there on my own - if I had others with me, we would have had to get it to go. The menu all sounded delicious but I decided on the Lobster Club and Gahan Blueberry Pale Ale. This is something I've never had before and it was so good! The lobster was delicious, and the toppings on the sandwich were fresh and tasty! My total came to $40 and although this was a pricey lunch it was well worth it - and to be expected when ordering a lobster meal. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area! read more

As the locals told us, "If you get in line when you are hungry, you are too late!" Although the lines can be long, we showed up for an early dinner on a rainy day and only waited about 15 minutes. We ordered the fish and chips, and some drinks. They give you a buzzer, so we enjoyed the view from upstairs while we waited. You can also write on the walls and tables! The food was fantastic, and the portions were huge. Each serving had two large pieces of fish and a bag of fries. There is also a very tasty homemade tartar sauce and coleslaw. We were stuffed! Keep in mind that they have a restaurant license, so you need to get food with drinks...the line gets long, so maybe order two to save time! read more

We stopped in to Richard's for a late lunch. The wait was about 10 min to order and 20 min for food We split an order of the scallops and fries which was plenty for us to split. We drove by here around 11:45am and the line was 15-20 deep. We came back around 2pm and the line was still that long. Figured there must be a reason for and got into line. Ordered lobster roll, lobster hamburger, and also fish and chips. Food were all good and reasonably priced. Both lobster roll and lobster hamburger had the most amount of lobster than all other places I tried in PEI. The only complaint was the fries were over fried and contained lots of small pieces. Also if you sit upstairs there are no garbage can so you have to carry everything downstairs yourselves. read more

As we were making our way across the northern shore from Cavendish Beach to Brakley Beach and to St Peters we decided to stop st this place after seeing the yelp and google reviews. Straight up: you will likely have to wait in line, but it is worth it! We got the fish and chips and the lobster roll and we sat up on the rooftop patio with some beach lagers enjoying the sun. It was spectacular. Probably some of the best fish and chips I've head, the batter had a nice crunch and the fish just melted in your mouth. My fiancé mentioned that her lobster roll was excellent as well. I would definitely recommend this place for lunch as you visit the north shore! read more

Their seafood is not the typical greasy deep-fried items that you are familiar with. The crust on the fish & chips were amazing! It almost reminds me of panko. Not greasy at all. Crunchy outside while the fish is still moist and flaky! Totally recommends everyone to go here. And get here earlier as the line gets long even before they are open! read more

Our Airbnb host recommended this place to us as a local favorite so we just had to try it out. There was quite a line when we arrived and had to wait around a bit for our food to be prepared after ordering but it was definitely worth the wait. We ordered the fried scallops, fish and chips and chicken tenders. The chicken tenders were perfectly fried but they lacked a bit of flavor. The fish, scallops and their sundried tomato infused tartar sauce was on point. There were also fresh oysters available right outside the restaurant which is a good idea before your meal. The meal was delicious! We got the fish burger and the lobster roll. The fish burger had the best crunch. It's not battered, it's covered in mashed potato flakes. Craziness! So good! They were out of the traditional lobster roll bread, so they served it on a bun. Same delicious, just don't need to tilt your head to eat it. :-) Fries were cooked just right! I wanted to eat locally on a business trip and I could see Richard's Fresh Seafood from the hotel. Unfortunately there was no Yelp review but I decided to makenthe 15 minute walk and take a chance. It's a popular place on Saturday and I waited in line 15 mins to place my order. They offer lobster roll, fried scallops, steamed mussels, fish n chips etc. The only healthy alternatives besides the mussels was a green salad. Emphasis is definitely on fried items. $11 for the lobster roll seems reasonable. Then I waited about 45 minutes for my food. They give you a pager so you can come get your order when it's ready. I've only had lobster roll before in Boston and remember it as a lackluster affair. This one was quite different; the lobster was meaty without feeling like rubber and flavorful. The sauce had just the right amount of mayo, dill, onion etc. The toast was plain white toast but didn't get soggy and I guess is an appropriate vehicle for the lobster although I prefer whole grain bread. The green salad had lettuce, walnuts, red onion and sliced radishes. The dressing, fortunately on the side, was melted butter (?!). If I order a salad, it's probably not because I need more butter in my diet.... I would definitely go back for another lobster roll if I'm in the area. read more

What can I say? I've been eating at Richards every summer since I was 16 and worked at a deep sea fishing spot on the wharf! It has gone through some different owners since, but one thing remains the same : good fresh seafood and good fries and GREAT coleslaw and tartar sauce if you're into those kind of things ;) One warning and complaint: DONT GET THE STEAMED CLAMS. When we are there last we got the steamed clams as a side, and they were FULL of dirt and grit, almost like they hadn't been cleaned. The sign warned of grit, which should have tipped us off to not get them, but that was ridiculous. If they can't clean them better than that, they shouldn't serve them . So overall I think they should consider serving FRIED CLAMS, which they don't serve at present. But the lobster rolls are TO DIE FOR. The fried fish is great, the mussels are great, the sides are great, and the view is PHENOMENAL. Plus they are licensed ;p read more

Great for fresh fried seafood on a lovely hot summers day. Can be busy, but I have never seen it be excessively so. There is a small building where you order your food, mostly fried fish and chips. Pretty much everything is battered in flour, so not necessarily the most healthy food you can eat, but that's not why people go there! There is limited seating around the restaurant and also some rooftop seating for catching some rays. Food is ready usually about a half hour after ordering, and there is a sign alerting customers to that fact. There is also a separate building where one can buy fresh seafood to take home along with accompaniments, ie for raw oysters. They also sell cooked lobster. read more

In comparison to fried whole belly clams in the states (well, specifically the New England states), I much prefer the batter/breading here at Richard's. Is it the way PEI fries their clams? I have no idea, but at least at Richard's, the coating is very crispy, panko-like, and thin. That last one was key, thin. Steamer clams are fairly delicate, and covering them in a Popeyes fried chicken-like shell they do in the states just ruins some of the clam flavor and texture. Just for showing that there are other, better ways to fry a clam, I'm a fan. Oh right, Brackley beach nearby, sweet view, lobster boats parked out front, yadda yadda. read more

Awesome little fish shack right on the wharf. Great place to stop for dinner and a beer after a day at the beach. I had the fish burger which was huge. Hubby had fish and chips. Very special batter on fried fish, Excellent lobster roll, good fried scallops. The batter contains what looks like oat meal, which gives it extra crunch. Definitely unique. Also, the fish is flavorful and moist - fried fish can't get better than this. Lobster rolls were also excellent and best value. Worst part is the 1.5 hr wait (we arrived 2:30pm). about 1-hr to get to order window, another 35 minutes to get the food. This is one of the two must-visit fish and chip places recommended by our host. The other one is Cavendish fish and chip, which also serves excellent fish and chip, different batter but quite comparable in flavor and quality - but much much shorter wait. In the end, I agree that both Richards and Cavendish are worth visiting, but if the family is hungry, I would recommend heading over to Cavendish fish and chip first and then go to Richards after lunch. Tip - if you are ordering multiple lobster rolls, fish etc, take off the fries from most of the orders. Two or three people can easily share one order of fries. We were five people with 2 orders of fries and we were nearly unable to finish. read more

Lobster roll. This restaurant is in a parking lot. By a marina. You have to line up. But oh man - Lobster roll. The only mistake we made was ordering the Lobster BLT to offer the two of us some variety. Whoever coined "variety is the spice of life" hadn't had a Lobster roll at Richard's. The BLT was pretty much exactly like the roll, but on a bun unable to adequately contain the delicious goodness and with all this bacon in the way. That's right: the bacon got in the way! The Lobster salad is filled with the biggest chunks of Lobster you can get outside of a shell, mixed with ingredients firm enough to hold it all together while subtle enough to let the Lobster taste through. Stop the Press. I'm a landlubber. That said, I know what I like and I can identify awesome, amazing. This is that. Richards belongs on every bucket list. If you die without eating at Richards, you won't go to heaven. I had the lobster roll. 2 days in a row. No shredded lobster here. These are huge chunks. You almost need a knife and fork to cut them smaller. Claw pieces are often whole. There is about 1/2 a lobster in each roll. But it gets better (can it really?). The seasoning is full of perfection: celery pieces, chives, mayo. And I detected the smallest amount of ginger. Bun? Fresh. Buttered. Fries and cole slaw are good too. Fries? This is PEI, potato Mecca. And they get them right, simple without all that seasoning stuff. And if you are in the mood for your own lobster and are staying nearby, their market can make that happen - easily a better choice than another local place I reviewed. Run, fly, sail to Richards. Between 5 sisters, 2 kids and mom and auntie, we had everything on the menu. Where do I begin? Probably where I end. It was the most exquisitely delicious seafood I've ever had. Thinking about their lobster rolls makes me ache with longing. Lightly mayo-ed lobster fresh from the traps with a perfectly balanced slaw on the side. This was my last serving of lobster on our 5 night trip through Nova Scotia and PEI. And fortunately it was a great way to finish. The lobster roll has thick, tender chunks of meat and the roll as toasted. The meal came with delicious fries. Didn't like the cole slaw much but that was a minor portion of the meal. $19 was reasonable compared to what I got at the Lobster Shack at Souris. My wife had the fish and chips with was $13.50. It's made with Haddock and she loved it. The batter was a bit different from fish and chips that we are used to but this was a plus. I got there around 3pm. So while between lunch and dinner, I still waited about 25 minutes to order and pick up my food - but it was worth it. Highly recommend Richard's! read more
