I came for the tire fix service because the tire pressure was dropping. We couldn't find the nail, so they had to take off the tire. They used the car jack which left a bent on the undercarriage. They did fix my tire but I later found out that my tire valve cap was switched out with a loose one. I went back and asked them about it. They just told me "the tire cap is black, so they are all the same" Tire valve might be a small matter but if they cannot do something as basic as returning what is yours after the service is done. I am not sure if I will trust them with any work significant or as minor as tire fix. Don't get me wrong. Doing a quick tire fix service here should not be a problem, but I would keep my eyes on the whole time to make sure things are done right. read more

I have been going to this place for at least 15 years. But recently their services have gone from best to worse. This is the second time in 2 months that they really disappoint me. This morning I stopped by 7: 05 am (they open at 7:00 am). Walk to the guy say good morning he walked away... then he came back 10 minutes later I said good morning he said he is not ready yet. Then he start talking with another guy. 7:30 am I asked him again when he will be ready to talk to me he looked at me like... you are interrupting an important conversation and said may be in 30 minutes. I've had a slow leak on one of my tires for the past few months and have been procrastinating to get it fixed. I finally looked on Yelp for a place I can stop at on my commute home and came upon Rich's Tire service. I actually arrived at 6:53pm and was worried they might not be able to take a look at my tire since they close at 7pm. But the mechanic there said no problem and to drive it up. He then proceeded to jack it up, dismount the tire, and pump extra air into it. There was nothing visually sticking out and no hissing sound so he dumped in in a large tub of water. Upon taking it out, he noticed some tiny bubbles and voila, there was the leak. A quick 3 minutes later the leak was patched and I was ready to go. I went to Rich's Tire Service because my Auto Insurance looked around the area I was in (Mountian View) for a tire shop after getting a flat quite a distance from my home location. Once I got towed to the shop they informed me that they had two used tires for my vehicle, however they were "uneven" and didn't come with warranty! When I asked the guy who was doing the mounting and balancing how much "thread" the tires had( used tires can have up to 90% thread) ...he told me he did not know! I wish I would have taken a picture of the tires when he brought them out, I wanted to leave but the tow truck had already left. ( I learned this from Agundis Tire Shop in South San Francisco where I never had a doubt about the service and parts I was getting, where they always tell their customers how much thread the tire has before purchase because they won't sell you a tire below 70-60%.) This was not Progressive Auto Insurances fault, but I wish this shop could have told the insurance agent handling my roadside assistance claim that they did not have the tires in stock or at least mention they were "uneven" (probably a good idea if they are dealing with an Auto Insurance company) where I would have made arrangements to be towed to another tire shop instead. read more

I needed to replace one of my tires a month ago--somehow a screw wedged itself in. I blame the darn road construction. Short of 20,000miles in replacing all 4, I was debating whether to buy a new one or to tack on my spare. I called around to get an idea of how much it would cost to buy a new tire plus labor. The ballpark was $110 for a crappy brand one. O_o ridiculous. Thanks to the reviews of this place, I decided to check this place out. I try to support small shops as much as my wallet can handle. This place is just as what the yelpers have mentioned. The price for a new tire and labor is $100 and $40 for a used. I went in to look at the used tire for my car--it was a goodyear brand and looked almost new, hardly used, no patches either. I was still iffy as whether to take this risk and ruin my car, but the guy seemed pretty genuine telling me the tire would last 20,000miles. So I took the risk of getting a used one, and within 10minutes that tire was hugging my car rim. It's been a month and I'm very pleased. read more

Had a great experience early this morning. It took a while to get through by phone, but reached them around 7:35 AM. Communication was vague, but I drove over with a flat, expecting to leave it and walk 2 blocks home, but he helped me on the spot and had me home and fixed in 10 minutes flat! And it was only $15 (I gave him $20, and I should have given more but didn't have the right change). So far, the tire is holding up fine. This place is great! I came here for a much-needed tire replacement (2 front tires) because one of them had worn down on the edges such that the metal was showing in the tire -- I didn't even know tires had a metal skeleton inside all that rubber. We dropped by on a Saturday afternoon and were helped right away. The guy's name was Rick, so I don't know if he's the Rich that this place was named after. But he was awesome - he told us why the car might've gotten this type of wear pattern (lack of alignment) and recommended a tire that was affordable yet didn't cause any complaints from past customers. What a disappointment. Tried to rip me off by charging $460 per tire for a $230 tire - showed them the price at Americas Tire - because I was in a bind on a Sunday and had my car towed in. Now I found the guy who unmounted/mounted my wheel overtorqued the lug nuts, I'm trying to change wheel and could not lose a single nut even using my 300lb.ft power impact wrench after draining several batteries. (which is, btw, never recommended to operate on wheels as overtorque can damage stud/nuts), this is rediculous and unprofessional. My previous 5star review was based on the well-deserved service I received...4 years ago. This review is based on the recent tire replacements I purchased through Rich's tires. I purchased 2 brand new Doral tires for my front wheels, at a decent price for their value (or so I thought). Within 2 months of driving, I got a flat tire on my driver's side front wheel. I pulled over to replace the flat with my spare & the nightmare began as I soon found out that the lugnuts were BEYOND OVERTIGHTENED. My wheelstuds actually snapped off as they had not only been overtightened but also improperly aligned with the threading. I ended up having to have my car towed to a mechanic who replaced the broken wheelstuds & managed to also discover that the lugnuts that were screwed on were not the right size. I had left shortly during the tire replacement to walk across the street to 7-11. Big mistake. I don't trust these guys anymore. Another thing that bothered me was that I had to ask for the warranty info when I bought the tires & they only scribbled it into my receipt because I had upfront asked them. It doesn't even matter because I am never going back to these guys. How the hell do you overtighten lugnuts with a torque wrench?! Isn't there a standard threshold setting on an electric tool of that caliber?! WTF. read more

I had never before been to this shop. They seem to be the only place in town that is open on Sundays. I was impressed with their large volume of business. That's about the only thing that impressed me about this shop. I was *not* impressed at how casual they were about paperwork. There was no written estimate, no written statement of work performed, no receipt at all for my cash payment. When work is performed without written records, I wonder if the business is being honest about its taxes. If it isn't being honest about its taxes, is it going to be honest with its customers? When an employee found a screw in a tire, the shop wanted to sell me two new tires without articulating any compelling reasons why this was necessary. They didn't have the tire I wanted in stock, but were willing to order it at a price 50% higher than the already-high Costco price for this tire. I wasn't impressed with their tire prices. I was especially alarmed when the shop pulled out the screw from my tire, because it was still holding air without any leaking. I had the sense that they were deliberately trying to create trouble for me, so that I would be forced to buy a tire I didn't want out of their stock, at whatever price they wished to charge. They spilled some water over the screw hole to demonstrate a leak. Luckily for me there weren't any bubbles so the tire was still holding air. I was even more alarmed when the employee asked if he should put the screw back into the tire. I was able to pay them and get out of there without literally or figuratively getting screwed any further. Because I had such a negative experience in terms of trust, communication and pricing, I can not recommend this shop to anyone. read more

Alright, this was my 4th visit to Rich's tires for my tire needs. Great experience with first 2. For the 3rd visit I got 4 of my wheels balanced. Everything was quick, even though they nicked the rims while taking them off and on near the bolts, it was not bad. I brought new wheel centric O rings to be put on while the wheels were off but the guy who seemed not informed well, said they don't fit and wont put them on, even after me insisting that they were on before. Anyways he didn't put them on and I went on the freeway and when crossed 65 mph, the car started to vibrate immensely in some sections of the freeway, this was not normal at all. Brought it back to the shop the next day to get it checked, turned out the balancing weights fell OFF from the front tire. I had this new guy checked the balancing again on the tires and all 3 tires balancing was off, he took the weights off and re balanced them and put two front ones on. When he was putting the back one on, i showed him the O rings, he easily put it back on and mounted the tire. I asked him if he can put it on the other ones too since i am here and the other worker didnt, he declined by saying that I have to CHARGE extra for this one. I said it was a mistake on their part that they didnt put it up. He said just drive the car and let him know, took a test drive the crazy vibration was gone but there is still vibration, talked to the lady in the front and she said they will put it back on. The guy came back 15 mins later that they cannot risk the wheels with the O rings as it can damage the car, I said you already put a Ring on of the wheels and now you are making this excuse just to get more money from me. They made three excuse that don't relate to each other: 1. He asked first for extra money to put the O rings, I declined. 2. The guy and the lady said again, it won't fit. I said it just did on one of the wheels, why not the others, no real answer of that. 3. When they realized fault was on their part they made a lame excuse of causing damage to the wheels. I will not suggest coming here for big job like wheel balancing or even getting tires. Got to reputable shop like Tire racks or California wheels. If you a flat tire go ahead and take your car. UPDATE: Even after the wheel balancing by Rich's the vibration never went away, took the car to America tires, they installed the Hub Rings on all tires and re-balanced the tires which were way off even after balancing by Rich tires and there was no vibration afterwards. read more
