    Pastrami Sandwich

Always worth a stop on the way back to the Bay Area. Massive size and clean tasting pastrami. Bread can get soggy on the drive, so eat it quick!

We drive by this place all the time and the drive-thru is always full so we decided to try it out for a late night dinner. It was a minute or two before 10:30 PM and the open lights were still blinking so we pulled into the drive thru. After a moment, we got an automated message the restaurant was closed so we began to leave when a different voice spoke out asking what we wanted to order. We thought maybe they close at 1030 but didn't turn off the sign yet, so we were happy to place our order. But checking the hours now (listed here and on their official website), it's weird that the automatic recording would say they're closed 90 minutes before they actually close. It seems like a small mom and pop type shop but they should get that fixed. Anyway, we got to the menu and quickly scanned it. Because, at the time we felt like they were staying open just for us, we felt pressured to order quickly so we got the 1/4 burger combo without giving the rest of the menu much of a glance. The 1/4 burger combo was the biggest thing on the menu so it jumped out at us first and we went with it. The ordering interface may need help because we had to repeat ourselves a few times. When asked if we wanted cheese, we said yes--should have asked if that was extra because it was. Each slice of cheese ended up being like $1+ and I totally regret it from a wallet standpoint. The drive thru did feel pretty tight and I have a small car so if you're not a good driver, maybe go inside instead. When we got to the window, the overall wait was just few minutes and soon we had our door and were driving home. Anyway, we enjoyed the fries in the combo during our drive home. Nothing special here but fries are always good when they're fresh and hot. Not much salt on them but that's fine. When we got home, we ate our burgers which were tightly and neatly packed. 1/4 patty, sesame seed bun, shredded lettuce, and sauce. I was satisfied but this burger does not stand out compared to all the other burgers I've eaten over the course of my life. I would say it's a small step above the Big Mac--the meat is better quality but it's also without the extra bun and patty (though 2 Big Mac patties is likely equivalent to a 1/4 patty). Not really sure if it had pickles or onions. Would recommend for a quick, no frills meal. Couldn't say much about their extended menu though as our first visit, it seems, was likely the culmination of misunderstandings.

A nice spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner, when you're in the silver lake area. It's near Griffith Park Glendale dodger stadium echo Park and the silver lake reservoir.

My pastrami sandwich, notice there is no grease on the wrapping?

It was a Sunday afternoon and the place was hopping! I was getting their famous onion rings. The servers were all smiling, the wait was minimal, you basically order through one person standing at a computer. She was very pleasant, I opted to also order a pastrami sandwich. As I waited, I noticed the smoothness of service I like to call "a well oiled machine"! People were sitting at their tables and as their order came up, a name was called to be handed delivered to the customer, again always with a smile! When I got to my friend's house the onion rings were still perfectly hot and still crispy, dipped in a sour cream sauce that cooled them down enough to not burn your mouth! When I came home I dug into my pastrami sandwich (I miss that sandwich from the old Greenblat's on the Sunset plaza) it was ginormous! It had a perfect balance with single slices of pickles, yellow mustard and cheese on a soft bun. I was in heaven, I saved the other half, deconstructed it, pan fried it and added an egg to it the next morning. What amazed me was that it was not greasy, it was all meat! I loved everything about this place, the feeling of an all American Diner is truly heartwarming! Great job for keeping Rick's open all these years, they even have a drive through window!

Rick's is such a LA staple, many people frequent this restaurant before and after the Dodgers games! When arriving the parking lot is a small lot in front of the restaurant, but they do have additional parking to the side of the restaurant! When you walk in you are greeted by a very very strong presence of Dodgers gear! The restaurant offers plenty of seating as well as TVs. You place your order at the counter first and then you grab a seat anywhere in the place, no one to assign seats! We ordered the cheeseburger combo one with fries and one upgraded to onion rings. We also upgraded one drink to a vanilla milkshake. Our order came out very fast! The burger was definitely not lacking any toppings. There was the perfect amount of each ingredient on the burger! The first bite, I was hooked, it was so juicy and flavorful. The flavor reminded me of if a Big Mac and a whopper had a baby, it would be a Rick's cheeseburger! The fries are SO delicious, they are crispy and HOT. The onion rings were out of this world. They were big in size and very flavorful especially with the ranch! The milkshake was a hand scooped one, and you could definitely taste the authentic vanilla flavor! The only reason we give it a 4 star is the price. It was $40 for two meals, which is pretty steep, but overall it was a delicious meal that left us full! Go check out Rick's if you're in the area or if you're going to a game, make it a tradition!

I went with three other friends for lunch. Had turkey burger it and fries and order a slice of pie to go. Service was ok. It has an old diner feel; with booth seating. You place you order and sit down and someone brings it to you. My only complaint was that my pie wasn't ready when it was time to leave. I have to wait for someone to slice and package it, so I had three people waiting in the car for me. It wasn't an efficient process. Parking is limited because this is a small lot.

My order for tonight's ricks super buy
    Manuel R.

Tonight we stopped by our place ricks we have been coming here since I can't remember that long:) so I ordered 2 ricks super buy and 2 club sandwiches and a bacon burger thru the drive thru got to the window they took our payment got our drinks and waited for food when he came to the window with food he asked if we wanted condiments so I asked for 5 ranch 5 thousand islands 1 for each of us .he proceeded to tell me that we would have to charge me extra cause it's over 3 sauces.and I asked him how much he said .25cents each I was like since when do you guys charge for condiments I've had this seperate issue 2 years ago when the lady wanted to charge me .75 cents each for them. Funny thing is I spoke to the owner angelo one day when I saw him coming to his restaurant he said there is no sauce policy and they shouldn't have asked to charge you for it .now I'm getting to think that maybe these employees that are charging for this extra sauces are doing so to make a little side money for themselves without the owner knowing well that's my observation.but all in all I would like if they going to charge you for extra sauces atleast do it upfront and not after you have made your payment.i have more details that i wont mention because all in all i still love supporting mom and pops business like ricks

    Nasty, undercooked eggs

We were looking for pastrami sandwiches while in SoCal since no one in NorCal makes them the same way. Husband ordered his pastrami sandwich & at first look, it looked delicious! I began to unwrap it and realized its super greasy. First bite in & the salt hits yo, hard. Its way too salty AND greasy. We've had many pastrami sandwiches and this is by far, the greasing, most salty one ever & that's not a good thing. I ordered the 2 eggs, hotcakes & sausage plate. The pancakes were undercooked & tasted like raw batter. The eggs, which I ordered over easy, were almost completely raw. Took one bit and was grossed out. Couldn't finish my meal. Almost went to ask for a refund but Im not comfortable making a fuss so I just left the plate. My daughter ordered the sausage breakfast burrito & liked it. It was huge & she couldn't finish it.

Good food. But what I enjoyed the most is the customer service. I shared this meal with my partner because we just needed a little something to hold us over until our next stop. The waitresses were nice and friendly. 5 stars because I had a big cheesy pull with the chili cheese fries!!

    Bland chicken taco
    Angela G.

The kids and I needed something quick and easy when we made a quick stop off on our way to Disneyland. I love these kinds of drive through because they always have one of my favorite fast foods, fried zucchini. I have a large pick up truck with a long truck bed (it's about 6.5 feet) and that drive thru was tight. Folks with longer cars, make sure you check your mirrors as you make your way around to avoid any issues. We got a grilled cheese (my daughter enjoyed it but for $6 there was a sad amount of cheese. No cheese made it to the crust), fried zucchini (it was thick, breaded and seasoned well, and made fresh) , a chicken taco (this was bland with what seemed like boiled chicken maybe? I won't get that again), fries (just your average fries, nothing special.), a veggie burger (unfortunately this got really soggy and the bread fell apart which made it too hard for my son to eat) and a Jamaica tea (this tea was DELICIOUS! It was tart, not overly sweet and tasted authentic I'll go again, it not only got more of that Jamaica tea and the zucchini.

    1/4 Hamburger with Cheese
    Mark M.

came thought the drive thru because we were hungry. i've always seen people lined up at the drive thru so we decided to give it a try. i got the 1/4lb Hamburger with Cheese. The hamburger was huge. Probably because it was packed with lettuce. The cheese was an extra $1.50. the place looked like any burger diner. the burger was just okay. i was expecting some sort of special sauce with it but it was just a regular burger. i loved the fries. if you're craving to get your burger fix this place is it.

Absolute perfection. Next time, I'm ordering two. The pork and green chile stew was also very tasty. It was tender, hearty, and felt super cozy. It wasn't, however, something I'd absolutely HAVE to order again (the cornbread is). The Carolina rice was the one thing I didn't thoroughly enjoy. It was a little too seafood-forward for my palate and not something I'd want to have again. My entree was the porkchop with a side of their buttery chive mashed potatoes. The porkchop was the best porkchop I've ever had in my life. Ever. Cooked to perfection, perfectly seasoned. I went a little feral and downright chewed at the bone. It was so, so good. Glassell Park is a hidden neighborhood in Los Angeles, anyway, and if you don't know what you are looking for, you might zip right past W&S, as we did. Parking is hit and miss, but there are side streets and you will find a space if you give yourself an extra 15 minutes before you come. The neighborhood is mysterious to me, sort of pricey grunge & hipster, iykwim. But! Once you are inside, you are in a completely different world. Bright, clean, genteel, muted, with dappled sunlight dripping through various apertures and alighting in a soft glow here and there on shining metal tables. It's beautiful. Some catchy upbeat contempo-pop music streamed steadily at just the right volume overhead. I found myself resisting the temptation to get up and dance. There are several rooms from which to choose, but I wanted to be seated on the wine-red suede banquette that gave me a view of the whole restaurant and out onto the tree-canopied street. From the time we arrived to the moment we left about an hour later, we were showered with warm smiles and attentive service. And the food? Exquisite. See my pictures. It was hard to choose. One tiny disappointment was they were out of the biscuits that I wanted to start with, but I enjoyed the crusty tender Clark Street bread slices served with warm creamery butter instead. It only got better from there. The two bowls we ordered were filled with fresh vegetables, cooked to perfection, topped with an egg prepared as we requested, i.e., over medium. The portions are modest and it was all so good, we didn't take anything home. We ordered coffee and were brought two tall steaming mugs of Americano, smooth, dark, and delicious. Best of all was the Lemon Lavender cake, a seasonal specialty. Honestly, it might be one of the best, moistest, most flavorful and elegant cakes I have ever had. So fantastic, that I just ordered some lavender buds (if I don't collect them from our garden) to replicate it at home. I don't drink much alcohol but if I did, I would head here for one of their experiences or tastings -- they have a formidable list. Check all this out. Thankfully, we were seated outside for some fresh air, although the warm murky smell still lingered a bit outdoors. The menu seem fairly limited since nothing really stood out to me as especially exciting. I've studied the menu prior before going, and was only looking forward to their burger, but they didn't have it during dinner apparently. While the dishes were descripted very well on the menu, there was no depth in flavors. I'm talking about the pork belly, lamb chops, tartare, Spanish octopus, and especially the seasonal pasta. I'm happy that it wasn't overly salty, but overall the food tasted mediocre and felt a bit basic. I'm only saying this because I could make it myself, at least the lamb, fatty pork belly, and pasta. Portions were also on the small side. Service was a bit slower as it took some time to get seated and receive our food, and one of our dishes was forgotten until we reminded the staff after already finishing most of the meal. On the positive side, we were able to find easy street parking about a block away, and the restaurant itself has a cozy ambiance that would probably be great for a chill dinner with some wine. However, my group left still feeling very hungry and unsatisfied. To be fair, we came in hungry, and the portions and long wait didn't help.

We also ordered the following main plates: Beef Shishlik, Whole Branzino and Prime Short Rib Tagine. For dessert, we ordered the Chocolate & Halva Sundae and the Tiramisu. Everything we had was creative, used fresh ingredients, was nicely plated, and tasted wonderful. Prices are on the higher side, as expected for an upscale restaurant. Drinks 4 stars: Full bar: Creative specialty cocktails, spirits, beer, wine and soft drinks. We had the Pornstar and the White Negroni specialty cocktails. Both were very good. Again, prices are on the higher side, as expected for an upscale restaurant.
