I scanned the room of trays containing people's orders before I ordered. It was really hard to find something that I thought wouldn't cause a massive coronary. I went with soup. I ordered the pasta fagioli and some of their hand cut fries. The soup was ok and once the fries got cold, they lost their appeal. My dining companion was hoping to get the lasagna but it wasn't available so he ordered a big meat sandwich--honestly don't remember which, just that it was exceptionally difficult to eat and not make a mess of yourself. I agree with many of the two and three star reviews. The food is ok, the staff seems pretty friendly. TRULY worth the pigout. I didn't even feel guilty afterwards. My boyfriend and I shared a slice of deep dish sausage for a starter, plus jalapeno poppers, and split the breaded steak sandwich. We shared fries with our friends. Everything was amazing and I loved the fries which taste more high quality than your standard bar version. All that with a giant Diet Coke made for an amazing day! From start to finish my Ricobene's foods have gone from not bad to grease overload. I'm kind of tempted to turn this into a funny story but I'll just do it straight through. First time there I had the eggplant parm sandwich. The sandwich ended up soggy and pretty bland same for the fries. A few months later we ordered pizza for work and again, bland bland bland. That didn't stop me from eating a lot of it but therein lies the problem. If you somehow manage to sap any semblance of flavor from your foods you end up with basically gruel that can neither offend or please. So I have been going to Ricobenes for quite awhile, since when they had locations on Pulaski and Cicero Avenues. I have always loved the steak sandwich. King size, red, and cheese. I have ordered the sandwich trays for work, for family functions. Never disappointed...until now. I used to live on the south side and have since moved to the north side. So if since I out of the delivery area, I have to drive from Ashland and Augusta on down to pick up food. So on 7/14, it's late night and the gf and I decide to drive on down for a Broiler, for her and my usual King size with red. We walk in, order, grab our food and drive home. As I open up my sandwich, it turns out that it is dry! No Sauce! WTF?!?!? My gf calls up and talks to the manager on duty. I think her name was lauren but not sure. No need to take names, it's Ricobenes, they will take care of this. We explain the dilemma and apparently there was a mix up and we got the wrong steak sandwich. The manager takes my girlfriend's phone number and says that she will put a credit for a king size steak sandwich under her phone number for the next time we go in or place an order for pickup. We thank her and I choke down my dry sandwich. 8/27, the gf is sick and I am craving that sandwich, so she calls in to place an order for our complimentary king size steak sandwich, a broiler, large Chili and cheese fries. And the person on the phone tells us there is only a $5 credit. WTF?!?! We tell her about the situation and how there should be a credit for the King size steak sandwich. She puts on hold. Then tells us that she only sees a $5 credit. So we explain the situation again. She puts on hold. again. This happens two more times. Finally, after being on the phone for 15 minutes, we ask to speak to a manager. Michael gets on. We explain the situation. He says that it's not true as the last order on that number is from April. We explain that we walked in and ordered. He then goes to check the credit book? He gets back on the phone and says that there is nothing else he can do and that we can take it or leave it. Excuse me? I ask how is that the manager on 7/14 was able to supposedly put a credit on for a king size sandwich but he doesn't have the power to adjust this? He says no. I then ask, who can? He says the owner is in on Monday and the GM on Monday night. I then ask, so if I want my sandwich, I have to wait until Monday. He says yes and do I want to order, or can he assist others. So after 20 minutes, of you guys wasting my time, now I am the inconvenience? Wow, just wow. So Ricobene's you not only failed me once but twice. read more

I was really excited about this place, until i tried it today. I had such high expectations but i feel sad because it has been nothing but a disappointment. Their breaded steak sandwich is not as good as they claim. It is moist(in a bad way) and lacks flavor. The meat feels sponge in your mouth. I am originally from Chicago moved for 28 years to further south in Illinois but my mother still resides there in Bridgeport and every time I came to visit I made sure I stopped for a breaded steak sandwich at ricobene's. Now I live in Laporte Indiana which good for me I'm closer to getting a ricobene's breaded steak sandwich or beef sandwich or pizza or as my son would say chicken vesuvio sandwich you can't go wrong with anything from ricobene's. Wow, they sure give you a lot of food here. The breaded steak is messy and delicious. I don't see how anyone could ever eat the king size, as I can barely eat the regular size! The Chicken Vesuvio sandwich is also good, but not as good as the steak. The pizza looks tasty, but I can't ever order it since the breaded steak is so delightful. They do offer pasta salad as a side instead of fries or onion rings, it seems a little healthier. Oh, and the minestrone is tops. My south side friend brought me to Ricobene's, and explained to me that it's a neighborhood tradition. When I visit, there are always cops and firefighters eating. Chicken marinara sandwich is terrific here. Your typical grease joint feel but the food is good. They also deliver all over (including downtown). Haven't tried too many other dishes though. Will be back for sure. read more

My wife and I stopped in here on a whim. 32 years living around chicago and I've somehow never been. The atmosphere was great and the staff very friendly. On to the food. My wife had ravioli and meatballs. The cheese blend in the ravioli was excellent and the meatballs were some of the best she and I have ever had. Myself, I had the breaded steak with cheese, sweet peppers, and hot giardiniere. Holy crap, that's all I can say. The sandwich was enormous and the quality was phenomenal. I would order again and again. All the flavors were so perfectly melded together I could not put it down. Truly a wonderful sandwich. Simply put, I love Ricobene's. Their eggplant parmesan is better than any one I have ever had. Their cheese fries and steak sandwiches are delicious and freshly made. This place is straight up American food. There's spaghetti, burgers, steak sanwiches. While you're eating the food, it's delicious. It's warm and big and your eyeballs will pop out if your head.
