So our household can't go without Ricobene's once a week so I haven't eaten in a while since my last review so I decided to try again because the food is so good, the steak sandwiches, their fries, the Vesuvio, rib tips...I can go on, I tried mostly everything. So very disappointed in this location. I am a guy who grew up in the neighborhood and love to bring people back to where the people are friendly and the pizza is king. I had guest in from New York and they said " let's have the best Pizza that Chicago has. BAM..... Ricobene's! I ordered take out and when I got it home I was the laugh of the evening. Everything I ordered was wrong. I ordered a large deep dish and they have me a large pan with the wrong ingredients. I ordered an large antipasto salad and I got a small dinner salad with no dressing. I orders 2 Italian soups I get 1 cream of broccoli. Wow what a disappointment, I told my guest not to worry I will call and they will take care of the matter. So I called. I was out on hold and disconnected 2 times. On my third call after holding for 12 minutes I was out though to who I thought was the manager. Then the lady on the other line tells me Karen is the only person that can help me. Ok then let me talk to Karen I say. Sorry she will not be In until Monday, and considering this was a Saturday I was F@*#ed. Great job of showing what Chicago has to offer! It is Tuesday now and Karen still has not called me. Restaurants need to understand that food only plays a part of the experience and that no matter how good the food is bad serivce and poor management can make a place that has great food a bad places to visit. Great food! We had to come here after hearing all the excellent reviews about this place. I don't eat pork, so I got my sandwich plain and not with the sauce. I loved it plain! Came in to get 2 shakes, and I've never felt so uncomfortable! After placing my order, the cashier politely asked this girl (I believe it was an Assistant Manager named Dani) if she could make the shakes, and instead of this girl answering she just stared at me... a customer. My fiancée took me here for "A staple food in Chicago". Such a great atmosphere and food ta boot! We had the breaded steak sandwiches with gravy and I was delighted because it was my first time. I have loved their pizza and service since I was a kid growing up in Chicago, IL until last night that is!!! My fiancee and I travelled from Hammond, IN. To get a pizza from my favorite pizza restaurant. We called our pizza in for a pickup at 7:19 pm and were told it would be a 40 minute wait. Which is standard in almost every restaurant depending on what you order. Anyhow we wait our agreed upon 40 min time. We went into the restaurant to pickup our order for a deep-dish all the works pizza. My fiancee paid almost $30.00 for. The workers started looking confused as to the order name which was my name Lavon. And the manager was then notified. She came to us and told us some lame brain story about the computer failed to give our order to the cooks in the kitchen. And our pizza was never made. And of course I was disappointed because we drove an extreme long distance just for a pizza. So I informed the manager of this and her response was what did it for me. She said " well I don't know what to tell you Sir, the pizza was never made and I cannot just pull one out of the air and give it to you." I asked what is corporate number? " we don't have a corporate number." Who is in charge of this establishment? " the owner you mean?" " her name is Kathy and she isn't here." I have never been talked to like this my entire life and I will be posting more reviews about their poor customer service across every online search engine. This poor customer service is what puts restaurants and etc out of business. This was my first time at their actual restaurant since I've only had their food at the Taste. The bf and I decided to split the king size breaded steak sandwich with mozzarella and hot giardiniera and also an order of cheddar fries. Fyi, the regular size is 6 inches and the king size is 9 inches. Don't expect to get your food quickly. It took about 10 minutes for our order to be ready, which is totally fine. I definitely don't mind when my food is freshly prepared! This sandwich was huge, but it was the perfect amount for two people to share. We still couldn't even finish the fries. I thought the sandwich was okay. I felt like the red sauce could have been a little more flavorful. Adding the mozzarella and hot giardiniera are a must. I would have preferred the mozzarella to be totally melted through. The cheese fries were good, but next time I will get the cheese on the side so it doesn't make the fries soggy. read more

Ricobene's, my family, friends and I have been fans and supporter since I was a kid, when you were just a very tasty hole in the wall, well over 40 years ago. Our love affair is now officially over and you can thank your "customer service" policy and how Susie (one of your managers) and Karen (your General Manager) administer your policy. ALL: be warned, if you have a problem with your pick-up or delivery order, be prepared for the problem to become YOURS, the customer. Regardless of what you ordered or what the problem is, you will be offered $5 or, if you picked up your order, they want YOU to drive back and return the incorrect items, which THEY prepared incorrectly or, you may be offered to have your items prepared correctly and delivered to you, which means you will have to wait, hungry, while they do what they believe is making a customer happy and satisfied, when it does not. Also, if you have any other hot items in your order, they do not care that your hot items are getting cold (or your cold items get warm) while you return the incorrectly prepared items or wait for the corrected delivery. But, to be clear, they want their incorrectly prepared items returned. They don't focus on "we will train our kitchen better", it's more about "their policy" and stoically standing behind it. No empathy or understanding of the poor customer experience their policy has on it's customers. What happened: it's Labor Day and I order two chicken vesuvios: 1, just as it comes, 1, no mayo, no onion, easy garlic and adding mozz cheese, 2 fries - 1, cooked well, 1, regular. I was told 30 mins for the order to be ready. I arrive in 15-20 mins, they are very busy for a rainy holiday and my order is ready. I pay, look at my receipt to make sure the order was rung up correctly (it was) and I wait for the fries, which is normal. I arrive home and both sandwiches are prepared wrong. The first vesuvio which is supposed to be prepared normally, has no mayo - all other items are there. The second vesuvio which was supposed to have no mayo, has mayo - all other items are or are not there as ordered. Both sandwiches were prepared incorrectly. I call in and talk to the cashier who took my order, she says she could give me a small credit; but, if I wanted more I would need to speak to the mgr. I explain that I would like to make this easy and simply just have a credit under my name for my full order since my order was not prepared correctly. I get Susie who explains she can only give me $5 or I can return the sandwiches and simply pick-up the newly/correctly prepared ones (the customer has to do the work) OR she'll have the sandwiches remade and delivered to me, which would have been at least another 30 mins given how crowded they were and the rain. Plus, she wasn't remaking the fries, just the sandwiches and I and my family member have to sit and wait, hungry another 30 mins while they attempt to correct their mistake, which is not customer-focused. If I was in the restaurant, I may have been more amenable. I challenge Susie and inform her that her "solutions" aren't desirable to me and couldn't we just make it easy and her credit me for my full order for a future date. She puts me on hold to return and say she can do no better than what she originally proposed. Not acceptable to me - the $5 credit didn't even cover one sandwich and the problem was two sandwiches. I ask for her manager and she said no one was there to talk to; but, her GM Karen would be there at 9am that next day. Cut to the next day, I explain the circumstances to Karen. She is completely unsympathetic, indifferent and stated multiple times: "this is our policy." After I pressed her repeatedly about how their policy is not customer-focused and is terrible, she offered me $10 which also didn't cover the two sandwiches. I asked her if she and Ricobene's are willing to lose my business, my family's and my friends for an additional $4 (total of $14), which is the cost of replacing the two sandwiches (not the $23 for replacing my entire order). Karen's response was "I can offer you $10 and Susie offered to have your replaced sandwiches delivered, which is not something we normally do." I questioned her on how their policy factors in what the customer wants and I gave her one last chance to make an exception and/or admit their policy needed to be revisited and improved. There was no understanding or customer consideration from Karen, nor did she or Susie state at any time they would train the kitchen better or take my feedback into consideration... nothing. Had she admitted Ricobene's could do better and worked with me, since she was the General Manager, my decision would have been different. Thanks but no thanks Ricobene's - it is clear you do not care. Other customers will experience what I did and I am confident they will think twice before giving you their business again. read more
