Heard about this place a while back so decided to stop by to satisfy my Friday night pizza craving. I'm not familiar with this neighborhood, found out they have a parking lot when looking up their parking situation. However, the lot is in really bad shape. Gigantic pot holes everywhere, not a great place if you baby your car. This restaurant is like a mom and pop Portillos. They have pizza by the slice, "worlds best steak sandwich" and frozen custard to name a few. We came here for pizza, but ended up getting their steak sandwich, Italian beef, hot wings and mozzarella sticks. Their mozzarella sticks were so good, the cheese were so stringy I can pull it across the table. The steak sandwich was delicious! Italian beef and chicken wings on the other hand was good but I'd probably not get again. We got the king size steak sandwich, and honestly it was a little too big. Really hard to get a good bite. Their frozen custard and Italian ice was great, good flavor, not too sweet. They recommend blue goo and it tasted like birthday cake ice cream. Good way to finish the meal. This place is fast food restaurant style where you order up front and pick up your own food. All water and utensils are self serve. So there really isn't much to say about service. All the cashiers are nice. Will go back for pizza next time. read more

5 Stars! That's right, because there's no place that sells the breaded steak sandwich like these guys. The menu consists of many things like sandwiches, hotdogs, burgers, fries, onion rings, jalapeno poppers, pizza, pasta, ice cream, but if its your first time here, you have got to try the breaded steak sandwich, its freaking awesome! Now my father has been taking me here since I can remember, so its been about 20+ years of experience for me, and I always recommend this restaurant to people who say they would like to try "Chicago" food. Yeah there's deep dish pizza, chicago hot dogs.. but little do they know, the breaded steak sandwich is better than both of those foods. This sandwich is wrapped in a sub sandwich type of bun, but is overflowing with breaded steak with lots of sauce. You can get the wich with sweet peppers, hot peppers, extra sauce, cheese... its good any way you like it. They have a King size and regular size, the King size is basically if you would like to take some home because there is no way you are finishing this bad boy in one sitting. The decor of the restaurant is your basic southside italian fast food joint, with some semblence of italian decor, but more like a fast food/diner type of place. The Chicago Police is ALWAYS here eating lunch/dinner so don't worry about safety in this southside joint. There is a private lot across the street under the overpass hwy, dark and dingy but hey, its free parking. Other things you should know, the fries are awesome here, greasy but very greasy tasty! if you get cheese, beware that its the powdered type of cheese dip, but its still tasty as hell lol. I love their fries. Also, they have an online Ricobene's website where you can order anything online including customizing your sandwiches and get it delivered within an hour. If you live in the southside, you know you've seen these Ricobene little cars driving all over the city. Overall this is as good as it gets in southside Chicago. read more

Dine-in area was open. Their fresh deep dish spinach and mushroom slice was great. We shared the eggplant parmigiana sandwich. The fries were delicious. My friend raved about the breaded steak sandwich. They are extremely clean. Had a whole section dedicated to pick up orders. Everything was done in a safe and clean manner. Steak sandwich was good and huuuuge but idk bout world famous. What worries me is that they pass this stuff off as Italian... haven't had the pizza but the arrancini balls are the worst I've ever had. No tomato sauce or rice, Small and dry and has a weird seasoning. Nowhere near authentic Italian street food. We threw ours away. Chicken salad, Italian beef, four seasons pizza delivery 9pm. Yeah this might be my last time, for real. Flavoring of the pizza was nice, but it looked sloppily made. More pizza sauce was smeared on the cardboard rather than the dough. My mom said it looked like they either dropped the entire pizza box, or it was moving around too much in the delivery car. It's like they don't even care about the quality anymore. Or maybe I just have bad luck. Italian beef from here used to be my faveee.. but once again the beef tasted tough and overdone. We visited for the umpteenth time on Sunday, 5/20. The Sox game had just let out, so it was a mob scene. Not one of these employees got flustered. They just did what they always do - rock it out and QUICKLY get their orders out. We ordered a bunch, and had waited longer in line to order than we did for our food. The highlight? I finally tried the Italian Beef. It is phenomenal. Go ahead and add on the hot peppers and red sauce. It just makes it that much better. But the beef rocked. I've read good and bad about it and had to try for myself. Of course the Breaded Steak and Vesuvio are amazing. We knew that already. I tried the meatballs once and found them to be pretty *meh*. My wife and I were passing through Chicago, and the hotel recommended Ricobene's (which Siri likes to pronounce, "rico-beans"). Order at the counter, wait for your order at the counter, and find yourself a seat. The amount of take-out traffic indicated we would not be disappointed, and we were not. I ordered the breaded steak sandwich, My wife ordered the Chicken Parmesan sandwich. The sandwiches were so generous that we could easily have split one! The marinara sauce was the real deal. The bread was fresh. The meat on both sandwiches was moist, tender, and nicely breaded. I would have liked to try some of their sides and salads, but I couldn't eat another bite! Locals obviously like this, but it should be a stop for any traveler who happens through this part of Chicago. read more

FINALLY made it over here and glad I did. I've heard about this place for years, but have never been able to make it over there for one reason or another. Finally went on a random Saturday. No complaints about the drive or parking. No traffic and got a spot in the big lot across the street. Service was fine - place was jam packed at like 2:15 in the afternoon. Ordered after a short wait. They got the order right and made it pretty quickly considering how packed they were. The breaded steak sandwich exceeded expectations. One of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time; maybe ever. Added hot peppers and mozzarella cheese. Just awesome. Ordered with fries, those came out fresh and hot. I have been coming here and ordering for years. When it was original tiny hole in the wall. Every time we Order the order is never correct. The first time we ordered we ordered a king size sandwich it came as a snack pack size...ugh! We called and complained and they wanted us to take a picture to prove to them that's what we got and only offered $5 for next time. What's with the discounts for next time. You should be replacing the entire sandwich for your inconvenience. The 2nd time we ordered we ordered large 4 seasons pizza and got some spinach and no meat pizza. By the time I called there wasn't enough time to replace because they close early that day. She said we can give you $10 for next time. I said I want the pizza I ordered and will not eat the pizza that was given to me by mistake. She says we can replace it but bring back the pizza tomorrow. Who does that? If you were a good business you would say here is $10 for next time and come back Tmrw for the pizza you ordered. To add to our frustration we also ordered king size breaded steak with peppers, but got king with mozzarella. Their management staff does not know Customer service! The food here is amazing. I had the famous breaded steak sandwich and my mom had the eggplant Parmesan sandwich and my Dad had the Chicago hotdog. We called in the order and they had it hot and ready. They keep the food in a warming compartment until you pick it up. What a great place. I wish I would have found this place years ago!! read more

My girlfriend and I were very excited to finally go to a Ricobene's and experience the infamous steak sandwich. Unfortunately it was nothing that the reviews are raving about. Although it was edible, there was nothing memorable about it. Paid extra for the cheese and hot peppers and there was barely any on my sandwich. My cheese fries were a soggy mess. The worst part about my experience was not even being able to eat our meal without having to swat gnats away. There wasn't only one or two of them, it was a swarm of them. They were sitting on our clothes, napkins, rim of our drinks and even the walls. We've never left a restaurant so fast due to the fact that we could not enjoy our meal without feeling itchy and grossed out. I would not recommend or be back. I would have given this place 5 stars since I love the food here but the staff is horrible and unprofessional. They're arguing and swearing in front of customers and not providing customers needs in an orderly timed fashion. Personally, I'm very understanding when there's a full house of people and I know it can get hectic but it's a Monday night and it's very dead here. Hands down, one of my favorite pizza joints in the city. 2 a.m. Cravings include pizza by the slice for a crispy, savory, fresh treat. OMG!! If you've never tried Ricobene's you are missing out on one of the best sandwiches in the world! The king breaded steak sandwich is enough for two! It has a huge piece of steak breaded then fried then dipped in a marinara sauce and placed on a French style bun. You can add cheese, sweet peppers or giardiniere( hot peppers cauliflower and carrots in oil) My favorite are the French fries but IMHO, MUST be ordered well done! They use potatoes with some skin left on and if you order the regular they're good but a little mushy for my taste so I always order them well done and they are phenomenal! You sometimes get small pieces of fries that are fried to crisp golden goodness! And they have pretty good Italian ice that rivals Mario's on Taylor Str. Forget about the diet when you eat here but it is well worth w!!! read more
