Ricobene's has the best Chicken Vesuvio Sandwich I've tasted so far! Comes with onions, mayo, lettuce I believe, but man it is good! Gets a little messy eating it, but is very worth the effort and cleanup. I haven't tried anything else here, but next time I'm in the neighborhood I'll stop by for another visit! I was craving some pizza and was looking for a place that delivers and found this place on yelp. I ordered a deep dish cheese with jalapeños, black olives and bell peppers. Absolutely loved the huge chunks of jalapeños they put on it. The crust was a little greasier than I'm used to, but it wasn't bad. The pizza hit the spot just perfectly and although I found it to be a little pricy considering the size of pizza I ordered, the delivery driver was very friendly and my pizza was delivered at a very reasonable amount of time. A huge treasure on the Southside -- it's very similar to Portillos theme restaurant with more of a neighborhood feel. Very Chicago! Many people will know RIcoebene's for its famous steak sandwich (named one of the best sandwiches in the entire nation), however I always look at Ricobene's as our local neighborhood restaurant. Besides the steak sandwich (which I admittedly don't get often, if at all) the pizza is enjoyable and the hotdogs are great. The real prize are the wings that are big, meaty and juicy. They come with a side of fries, which is more like a bed which the wings rest on. For eight wings, that'll cost you about 7.49 (before tax) but they fill you up because of how big the wings are. They're a good contrast to the wings at other chain restaurants like Buffalo Wild Wings and Hooters that are often more breading and work than Rico's. A single order (8 wings) usually fills me up but I'll get a double (16 wings) to save enough for two meals. The only downside is the lack of sauces as the BBQ is your normal BBQ and the Hot is more of a taste of buffalo sauce rather than something to cry about. The trick is to get the fries on the side and extra crispy. It'll give you something closer to regular crispy fries while if you keep them regular, the fries get kind of soggy from the wings. If you like soft fries, I would keep them as is. If you're short on time, always order ahead for the wings because they probably take the longest to cook. Great place to get some food quick. read more

I lived a few blocks south of Ricobene's as a kid (1968 to 1979). At that time, it was just a counter with a few stools to sit on. Although their breaded steak sandwich still tastes the same, their pizza does NOT. Their pizza was my all time favorite. The taste and texture of their cheese is different for sure. I've loved Ricobene's sandwiches and fries for a long time. But what I really want to write about is their party room. We used it yesterday for my son's first birthday party and everything was great. The service from the beginning of the planning through the end of the party was wonderful. They explained everything and were flexible. We had a dedicated server, Leonard, who was courteous and very helpful. It was very affordable for what we wanted. We wanted a party, obviously, but a casual one and every other place required us to pay a certain amount per person -- think it was at least $12/person at another well known hot dog chain starting with "P". This was more formal than we were looking for and more expensive. Here, we paid $75 to reserve the room. Then we could order off the catering or pizza menus but there were no minimums as far as how much we ordered or how many people we had. We put in our food order a few days beforehand but had the flexibility to order more food during the party so we didn't have to worry if we ordered too much food. Plus, they provided all the plates, cups, etc. and had to clean up our mess :) And the space is nice. We had it full at about 65 people but there was enough room for all without being on top of each other. It's up in the front with a wall of windows, it had a nice bright feel. read more

Maybe they had a long day, since it is Mother's Day. I don't know. The place looked great, clean and at 9pm people still ordering and eating some delicous looking sandwiches. Made me decide to stay and find something meet my pallete. I decided on a Masticiolli dinner added the sausage and a garden salad. Service was fine, not fast, not slow but I would say average. The food was plentiful, hot and filling. Matter of fact I didn't even finish mine and I can finish just about any meal put in front of me. Once again everything was good, but nothing special. The Pizza looked great and you can either order a slice, or a pie just your size. The sign says they are known for their breaded steak sandwich. I will most likely go back later this week to try it. I definitely enjoyed this spot. It's a order up front and sit where ever you please. There is a separate parking lot directly across the street which is free! The sandwiches are massive!!! I got the breaded steak sandwich and it was hands-down juicy, tender and saucy. I would highly recommend going to this place to try it out! It is a little out of the way of the center of Chicago but I don't think many places have this unique combination of breaded steak in a sandwich. The reason I give this a 4 star instead of a 5 is because I thought the breading would be a little more crunchy, but the tomato sauce softens that part up. However the amount of food for what you pay for is so great. I think it was around $9 and I got insanely full. Also, highly recommend the lemon snow that they have. So let me just say that the food has never been an issue. Great food. I did an online order and an hour later No food. So to be fair its snowing and its Friday night. Except It stopped snowing an hour ago and I'm only a mile away. I was at work starving and cant leave the property. So I call and ask about my order. Received undercooked breaded steak sandwiches and it was confirmed that the sandwiches were undercooked so I received a refund. The quality at most restaurants has gone down and it started when Ricobene's went from coagulated cheddar cheese fries to canned cheese. That was in 2008, which I should have reviewed then, but just stopped going there until recently because I was in the neighborhood. Why is this sandwich so expensive at almost $12 a sandwich? There is a restaurant near the train station on Halsted and Archer which makes a bomb breaded steak sandwich. I think is the same price or more expensive but that one is delicious! read more

South side staple Ricobenes is always the place to go for a quick bite before or after a Sox game, as its about 5 minutes from Comiskey, they are known for a lot of things over here, breaded steak sandwich being the main dish here.Huge steak sandwich, come hungry, if ur getting that. There baked mostacholli is also really a nice dish, and a huge portion, again you will leave full, and your wallet will probably still be full as well. Slices of pizza are large and filling, and you also cant go wrong with a burger with the works here. Fries are also hand made, and greasy as hell, but taste great. A lot of locals, and cops eat here on a frequent basis, so it must be good if the cops are always there right? ehh, dont let a felony deter you haha. This is in reference to their Deep Dish Pizza ONLY: I was craving a Deep Dish Pizza, last night, but my neighborhood is predominantly a thin crust area. So, having heard good things about Ricobene's food, I thought I'd give them a shot. First, the delivery took around 90 minutes, even for Deep Dish that is a long time for delivery. Secondly, the crust to toppings ratio was so off it felt like I was eating crunchy cornbread with the slight amounts of marinera and toppings (by the way, I ordered a black olive, pepperoni and spinach pizza, but I didn't find much pepperoni). I may try them again, but for one of their sandwiches, since that is what I keep hearing about. Never again for their pizza, though, I will stick with Phil's. read more

Went on a tip from a friend. 1st timers. Oh my gosh!!! Such good food. Old time Chicago kind of feel. A little divey, but still plenty clean and very cute in an old-time way. Hubby got chicken parm sandwich and fries. He for the "regular" and it was huge. Under $6 too! Fresh sautéed peppers and chicken was ridiculously tender. How do they do that? Fresh cut fries were awesome. We went for a lunch and I was looking for something lighter. Didn't figure I would find anything as it's hard to find lighter fare at greasy spoons. It was rated by Yelp as #1 in Chicago for deep dish pizza. It is a great local restaurant. I was was definitely the only tourist in the place which was visited by young and old, families , couples and the local police. I had the deep dish sausage, but a lot of customers have the sandwiches or pizza by the slice. It was very good. Was it the best in Chicago, maybe not. But it was up there.
