It came out looking the size of whatever they throw on Fred Flinstone's car to tip it over. Whoever cooked that steak knew exactly what they were doing. Food was really good! A good combo would be getting the regular chips with a sweet sandwich, or the sweet potato chips (they sprinkle powdered sugar on top) if you get a savory sandwich. I personally liked the regular potato chips since they were unique - they were thick and not too salty. The fried green tomatoes were really good (4 of them for about $5) and came with pink sauce. I had the Ham and Brie Cheese sandwich with apricot jam ($9.50) - the french bread was excellent and there were 3 thick slices of ham I included. The brie cheese wasn't anything special but the sandwich overall was 5/5. It's definitely a sweet sandwich if that's your thing! Prices are very reasonable. They did have 3 specials that day that were priced at $24-30ish that sounded really good as well (alfredo pasta, salmon, and steak). It's currently decorated with quirky Christmas decor. Parking is interesting - you should be able to find a spot though. I would have given 5 stars if it didn't take 45min-1 hour for food to arrive (we had a table of 6 and arrived at 6:15). I don't know why I waited so long to try this restaurant but I am going to be a regular from now on. We went on a Saturday night and the dining room was full. There are a few tables outside on the enclosed patio and we were seated there. All the food and all the drinks on the menu were very reasonably priced. I had a PBR For only $3 !! We shared an appetizer of fried green tomatoes that was lightly floured and tangy. The dinner salads were large enough for a meal, and only $5 !! Last week I had a $14 salad in Gainesville that was half the size. And try the peach and black sesame dressing. Yummy. We shared an oyster po boy and a shrimp po boy and they were both on point. I also enjoyed the blue cheese coleslaw which I had never heard of before but I was cheesy and sweet at the same time. Good service, great food, excellent price. What more can you ask for? read more

It had been quite some time at least a year since I had been here. I had talked it up so much to my newly graduated bestie that she chose it for her graduation meal that I was treating her to. The service has definitely changed, starting with the young lady who seated us. Let's just say friendliness wasn't her middle name, and I think she thought if she smiled, her face might wrinkle. It took about 10/15 minutes before our server showed up, even though it was 4:00, and there were about 3 tables occupied. I saw my favorite sandwich was still on the menu the ham and brie sandwich, but it wasn't as tasty as I remembered, but my side of fried green tomatoes were still delicious as always. My bestie ordered the fried oyster po boy with hashbrowns. Then we overheard our server telling the table behind us the specials of the day. We asked her why we weren't told the specials was it bc it was too early? Her reply was no, y'all seemed to know what you wanted.... well, she lost out on a much larger tip! Our total was $36 with $6 (20% even though she really didn't earn it) as her tip. Had we had the specials, I would've chosen seabass, and my friend would've gotten the lobster ravioli her tip would've tripled. Always always tell the customer the specials! We were there until 6 pm on a Saturday night, yet it still wasn't crowded. Back in the day, if you arrived at 6 pm, you expected to wait 45 minutes! But the servers were way friendlier, and the food was better than what we experienced. The highlights were they had my very favorite beer that's seasonal Hell or high watermelon by 21st amendment, and because it was my birthday, I got a free dessert, and I chose the creme Brule which was EXCELLENT! My wife loves this place and has eaten here many times. Let me just say what others are saying,,it's awesome. It's small and quaint and there's normally a wait but it's worth it. I can't think of anything I would change. Let's talk about food. My son and I both had the chicken wing special. The wings were larger than most sport's bars and wing places. Not too spicy despite the description from the waiter and served on top of their steak fries. We both loved them. My wife had the crab cake which was excellent as well. Recently went for my anniversary dinner. The place is small, but service is always great. Parking is limited in the parking lot, but there are city spaces to park in and plenty within 1 block or so. Rico's serves mostly sandwiches and salads, but they rotate through different specials each day. We started out with fried green tomatoes. No frills, just good crispy breading and tangy green tomatoes served with a dipping sauce. The sauce has a bit of a spicy horseradish kick to it but it is great. Smaller serving as it is just four slices, but it was just my wife and I eating them and the price is less than most places. We also had the house made chicharrones which are also delicious and super crispy. As for the rest of the meal, we ordered two burgers, a chicken sandwich and a po' boy. The burgers were on special and consist of brisket, hamburger and pork belly. They were fantastic! Even my daughter's picky friend said it was the best burger she has ever had. The poboy was stuffed with shrimp to make a nice bread to meat ratio without the sandwich falling apart. The chicken sandwich was very flavorful and came with two huge fillets. I got the special which was blackened salmon over smoked Gouda and American cheese grits with spinach. The salmon was very well cooked and seasoned perfectly. The grits were good, but lacking the smoked Gouda flavor. If it wouldn't have said smoked Gouda, I wouldn't have cared because they still tasted awesome, but if you advertise it, I should taste it. All in all, this is a great place to eat. The only reason I have it at 4 stars is because there is nothing fancy or extravagant or extraordinary about anything. This really could be 4.5 stars if we could give half stars, but go if you are in the neighborhood and you won't be disappointed. read more

I've been hearing about this spot a lot from locals so it was fun to try out something new that was in the area. The downfall was they did not take reservations but they did allow you to order beer or wine and enjoy it in your car while you wait for your table...Nice touch! I like the idea that they change their specials every day so that you can try different options. We started off with the Pacific rim crabcake...it was meh...nothing to write home about. Since we do not eat pork we ordered the seafood pasta with linguine and asparagus tossed in lobster brandy cream topped with jumbo shrimp with a request of bacon wrapped scallops not be added to the dish. They got that right however the ribeye over potato wedges was tossed with bacon, crab, and cheese sauce served with green beans they did not. Unfortunately, my ribeye was overcooked and the potato wedges was covered in cheese sauce which I asked to be on the side and was tossed with bacon that I also did not ask for. I had to send the dish back which is why I had to delete one star. Definitely not a cheap meal so my expectations were higher. We were headed to a show in the area and noticed Rico on Yelp. So happy we found it. It was busy, but not overcrowded. We noticed that the patrons were all over the map - young, old, couples, families - great vibe. We noticed the couple next to us were eating something that we didn't see on the menu - they told us it was one of the specials and that they had been coming to Ricos for over 20 years! My spouse ordered the grouper (a special that night) and I ordered another special, the shrimp and grits. The piece of grouper was huge, and very tender - the shrimp and grits were amazing. The shrimp were jumbo, and the grits were very creamy mixed in with parmesan, American, and cream cheese. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was very inviting. So pleasantly surprised- American would never be my first cuisine choice- got the lumpia that was light and airy and even though it was fried didn't make you feel gross. Walking in its got that old building feel, very cozy though. Maybe it used to be an old gas station just repurposed? Anyways the service was great, friendly waiter that was fast and attentive. He gave us the opening spiel of the dinner specials and then proceeded to grab our drink order. 5/5 Service: Glasses never run empty and finished plates did not sit on the table long. We got checked up on at good intervals and all around friendly. 5/5 Food: It was all wonderful, Nice sized portions and delicious flavors. We ordered their dinner specials, Blackened salmon, Pork loin, and a burger, complete with their sweet potato tots! This place is perfect, we're glad to have finally visited. From the checkin to seating all the ladies were smiling and happy to see customers. Our server was Hannah. She is truly a gem. She sold my fire on the shrimp and grits and I almost too the chicken pot pie but refused due to the dairy content. Hannah checked in on us a lot and made small talk with us it was great to get to know her and learn about her passion for Halloween. We heard she works at the Brunch Apothecary and we're delighted because that's our favorite restaurant around the area. Let's get on with the food. I can talk about Hannah's charm for hours. The shrimp and grits were amazing. The grits were creamy the shrimp had a nice kick. Perfect pairing. I personally had the Cuban chicken (I know, print right) heck no. Came here and tried the royal rooster, soup of the day and the lumpia. All tasted fresh and came out hot which I love. In terms of taste the soup was probably the most flavorful. The lumpia was not bad. The royal rooster was recommended by the server and host. Upon first bite it tasted quite good but beyond that it really lacked flavor. Texture temperature was great but it was definitely missing seasoning or sauce. Besides that atmosphere made me feel like I was back in my home town and our server was awesome! Went on a trip to Atlanta & stopped by this place which was close to where we were staying. I had the Eggplant sandwich with Fried Green Tomatoes which was crispy & flavorful. I really wanted to give Rico's five stars.. Parking is very limited here as this place is very small, at the beginning of Main Street in downtown Buford. You will need to catch parking in the front or park across the street. Since this place is so small, its tight too and when many are waiting you may have to wait outside. We had our our names down and it they said it would be 15 but that turned into almost 45 mins. I believe the restaurant manager offered us some complimentary fried pork and beef egg rolls for waiting and they were very good. Once we finally sat down, Justin was our server and he was great! He took our drink and food orders and was very accommodating with recommendations. I had the shrimp Po Boy and the Hummingbird Drink. Every was very tasty and the shrimp in my sandwich were cooked perfectly. My husband let me try his diablo scallop pasta and it was very good, I'm just not a spicy person or I would have ordered it. We were a part of 8 with 2 kids and majority of everyone food came out the way they wanted. We always make a stop here while in Buford. The egg rolls and grabbing a cake slice here are a must!

We went on a really busy night tonight. It's a small little establishment with an outdoor patio next to the train tracks in downtown Buford. You can hear and feel the train as it passes by. The wait for 2 people was about 40 minutes. We got there at 7:00pm, seated at 7:40pm and ordered the fried green tomato and crab cake appetizer as soon as we sat down. The fried green tomatoes came out promptly within 5 minutes. There were 4 pieces in a tasty cornmeal breading that was light and not overpowering. It was fresh, hot, and came with a nice creole remoulade. 20 minutes later, the crab cakes come out- 2 pieces with slaw. Wonderful in flavor, however they were really mushy in texture but the black sesame & Asian pear dressing in the slaw accompanied it well. An hour later, our main entree finally got to our table at 8:40pm. I got tonight's most expensive special at $31: The ribeye over potato wedges tossed with crab, truffle, fried cheese curds and demi glaze, with side of green beans. While the wedges and curds were plentiful, I literally only got 5 pieces of green beans and probably about 1 teaspoon of crabmeat which was very disappointing. I ordered the ribeye medium. While some parts were medium, it wasn't evenly cooked because other parts were more medium well to well done. Some parts were tender and other parts were tough and dry. It was inconsistent, however the flavor was still good because it was very well seasoned. My dinner partner got the other special: grilled sea scallops and shrimp over pasta and spinach tossed in cajun butter for $28. I got to try some and it was delicious. All the flavor was there and the seafood was cooked perfectly. The only complaint was that it was a small portion overall and it only came with 2 scallops, but the rest was shrimp. We finished the meal off with some dessert. Now I'm not a big fan of chocolate cake, but I told Siri to flip a coin so that's what it landed on haha. We got the Samoa chocolate cake, like the Girl Scout cookie flavor. It was a good piece of cake- not dense, just the right amount of sponginess and it wasn't overly rich. Overall, I give this place 5 stars for flavor all day. But due to the long wait times and inconsistencies in the food, this place gets a 3 from me. I would still go again and give it another try though. read more
