The featured Yelp porchetta roast brought me here. It's a very lean appetizer, 3 ingredients and I forget what the other one is, I really disliked the mustard. I got spaghetti and meatballs and the sauce was very salty. The orangy sauce with the rigatoni dinner is pretty good. It was not the most memorable of an experience. I kept comparing it to al Vento, turns out they are the same owners. If this were my hood, I'd be more of a fan. If not make the trip to al Vento. I've lived in the neighborhood since Rinata opened and for some reason I haven't gone until now. Apparently I've been missing out! Rinata provides good quality Italian that's a step up from casual dining without being too pricey. We were hungry so I ordered the bruschetta with brussels sprouts and house bacon. When they brought out the complimentary basket of delicious, fluffy focaccia bread I immediately regretted it since there were only two of us and I didn't know if I could control myself. However, when they brought out the bruschetta it was so good I knew I had made the right decision. The roasted brussels sprouts were almost crispy and the house bacon was in yummy cubes rather than crumbles. Now the entrees. My husband had the butternut squash ravioli with fried sage and brown butter and oh. My. God. When he took a bite he did a happy food dance, and although I didn't dance when I tried it, I agreed with his assessment. The combination of flavors was almost perfect, and it had just a hint of cinnamon. I had the porcini crusted chicken breast with cauliflower and gorgonzola cream. The cauliflower with the sauce worked quite nicely, but the chicken was just a bit too salty. Maybe this was a problem just that night, but I'm guessing their game is more in pasta. 9:47 on a Saturday night This was a great find, I have driven by countless times and was glad to get an opportunity to finally go in, we had an app 2 glasses of wine a salad and the striped bass oh and dessert, So do yourself a favor and save room for the bread, super salty to perfection and fresh tasting, The app was good but pretty small for an app, we will try something different next time I think. We stopped by Rinata last night to celebrate my parents' birthdays. If you go to Rinata, I would definitely recommend trying to come on a Sunday for their date night special. You get 4 courses for $20, a great deal! Unfortunately, I wasn't quite as impressed with the food this time around. I still love their foccacia bread served with olive oil and olive tapenade. For my appetizer course, I ordered the butternut sqash soup. I thought it tasted a little bland. It almost tasted like Christmas to me with all of the nutmeg spice. I did enjoy the spiced walnuts, though. For my salad I had the arugula, and it was fine, nothing too special. Lots of red onion. For my entree course I ordered the fettucine with shrimp, mussels and tomato pesto. This was probably the most disappointing dish. It tasted very fishy to me, which I don't like. There were only a few shrimp, but they had a very distinctly fishy flavor so I only ate one. The tomato pesto was more like a fresh tomato sauce with lots of garlic, it didn't taste anything like pesto. Warm, intimate and thoughtfully executed, Rinanta is a lovely choice to satisfy your next Italian craving! The interior is dark but not dungeony, the soft lighting is calming to the senses and welcoming, espeically on the frigid day we visited. Greeted by a friendly host, we were seated right away instead of being made to wait for our entire party to arrive (I love when this happens!). The menu is relatable but still authentic. In other words, you won't get lost in a bunch of Italian stuffy vacabulary and then feel like an idiot asking your server what each item means in English. A single-page menu with rotating seasonal flair and a nice variety of options, I was finding myself wanting to try many things! We settled with the bruschetta with roasted wild mushroom, truffle white bean puree and prosciutto. Our group raved over each bite! I had the butternut squash ravioli. A seasonal option only available in the fall and early winter, it was as tasty as beautiful. I promise it won't disappoint. The Molten Chocolate Cake deserves all your senses' attention. I'm a big fan of Al Vento's and went in thinking I would be bowled over by Rinata. I was and wasn't, and I wish there was a 3.5 star rating. The decor is similar to Al Vento's, warm and intimate. A misunderstanding about our reservations - one made by phone and another through Open Table - started off our evening. The hostess was a tad hard, and an apology would have been welcome. We'd wanted the earlier 9pm slot, she understood it to be the later 9:30pm slot. So we went off to the bar at the back to kill time, our party of six. And the bartender was super friendly and apologetic about our wait. Another wait staff we spoke to was also very hospitable and tried to get us a table sooner. The bartender put all the drinks on the house for us. I'd give this place 5+ stars for customer service. The service remained very attentive throughout our meal. The only appetizer we ordered was the crostinis topped with smoked salmon and the salmon was deliciously rich. The white bean minnestrone was disappointingly average, and the pork risotto was flavorful although a bit on the dry side. I did not taste the pizzas my friend got but the crusts looked thin and done well. So, in the final analysis, this is a good change from the large overflowing restaurant options in Uptown, service is exceptional, and the food is average. read more

We ordered the meatball and mussels as appetizer, the chicken dish as main course along with seafood spaghetti, and finished with Tiramisu. Everything tastes pretty good. Rinata is great for a date or even just a happy hour drink with friends. It feels super cosy and family run, more romantic than you might think. The HH is great on weeknights from 4:30 - 6 especially in the summer when you can sit outside. You can get apps for $3 - $5 which are super tasty and the right size so you can try more than one! The baked feta is one of my favorites. The wine list isn't long, but you can find something you will like. Sunday night they have "date night', which is a four course meal for $20 - I've never had it but it has always looked intriguing. It has definitely become a go-to in Uptown when I want good Italian cooking at a reasonable price! read more

If you have a choice, choose al Vento over Rinata (same owner). Better atmosphere, broader menu, and a better vibe. If you forget about al Vento, Rinata isn't bad, it just isn't memorable. Not really a "neighborhood" restaurant IMO, parking is kind of a pain, and pretty much the entire menu is a subset of al Vento's (sans the entrees). To move up a star, Rinata needs to differentiate from its big sister and create a more unique identity. Italian restaurants are a dime a dozen in this market so it won't be easy. read more

I'm not going to lie, there was a lot riding on this dinner. I had a whole day of wonderfulness planned while my parents were visiting from Wisconsin. When my itinerary for the day suddenly changed, I was quite ruffled and surly about it. Dinner HAD to be good, my day HAD to end on a high note. The pleasant hostess was able to effortlessly seat us 30 minutes earlier than our reservation. Very nice, considering it was a pretty busy Saturday night. She truly cared that our experience be a good one. The server was also very attentive, as was the assistant. There's only one way to change a salty mood...sparkling wine, STAT! The server was able to suggest one to my liking, and boy it was! *Tension relieved* The bread is so fresh and warm and is served with glorious dipping sauce. *Mood is getting much better* I really wanted to try their pasta, but just couldn't muster up an appetite. Pasta will have to be had at a later visit. I opted for the beet salad and the salmon bruschetta. For wine with dinner, again at the suggestion of the server, we had a bottle of Barbera that was quite beautiful and thoroughly enjoyed. Lovely! Scrumptious! Satisfying! Bravo! *I'm smiling* All three of us had different ideas for dessert and all were delicious. I ordered the dark cherry chocolate gellatto and it was a delightfully indulgent ending to my meal. Rinata is charming, the service is always great, and the food is generally good, but has a chef who really seems to just cook to their own tastes. Of the 20 entrees and appetizers on the menu at a recent visit, 17 contained pork or shellfish - items I can't eat for religious reasons - or olives and capers, a strong flavor that many people either love or hate. I still come here pretty regularly out of convenience, but it would be really nice to see them create a menu with a little more variety that can speak to more tastes, more options for vegetarians, or at least some suggested options for those with dietary restrictions. read more

This place was a fantastic find for us last night. All of my party had fantastic meals. The pasta was fresh and made with authentic Italian ingredients that really complimented the dishes. We all also appreciated the serving sizes. It wasn't overwhelmingly huge like you might expect from some pasta places. Instead, it managed to be a perfect amount for our appetites. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about the wine menu and how all the food is prepared. He was very helpful and pleasant. The greatest part about Rinata is that you can get this wonderful food, attentive staff, and beautiful decor for an unbelievably good price. You definitely need to give this place a try. read more

Open Table said our party of 6 couldn't get a table until 8 on a Saturday night in May. We decided to show up early. Wouldn't you know? Plenty of room for us at 7:30. The table they had set for us was near the front door and the reception desk. We said we'd prefer the cozy dining room near the kitchen. At first the hostess resisted. But by the time the 2nd couple arrived, she figured out a way to accommodate our request. Very interesting wine list. Nice selection, reasonably priced. Our server was very knowledgeable and helped us select a bottle that everyone liked. Bottles are half-priced every day from 4:30-6 p.m. and all night on Monday and Tuesday. We started with appetizers. The baked Bulgarian feta with artichokes, peppers and olives was the most innovative. The eggplant involtini was impressive in preparation and appearance, but not as flavorful as we expected. I thought the entrees were better than the salads. I had risotto with braised short rib of beef; it was great. The other entree was the ziti with lamb; also very good. One of our group had an artichoke pizza with pesto and fresh mozzarella, and that also was a hit. Complaints? Minor. The menu doesn't include any fish, chicken, or meat that's not accompanied by pasta or rice. Makes it hard for someone who's watching carb intake. The dining room is small and the tables are close together; when it's full, it's noisy. My conclusion - I like it, I'll come back again. read more

My friend and I came here during restaurant week for the $30 tapas menu and I don't think I've been this happy with small portions since well... ever? We had 8:30 reservations and after about a 15 minute wait we were seated in a cozy corner table by the front window. The romantic ambiance was definitely prevalent, and had me wishing my friend was instead a dapper, wavy haired young man in a sweater set who was romancing me with a night of great food. We decided to order different things and then split our plates so we could try all the different options (which I highly recommend). I won't regale you with thoughts on all 8 dishes but some of my faves include: the mushrooms w meatballs, the beef brisket with gnocchi, and the pistachio gelato. And, of course, the standard bread basket which came with not only came with olive oil but tapenade!! FANCY! The service was excellent, and the food came out pretty fast once we sat down. Recently, I read that Rinata was featured in the "most underrated spots" in the Twin Cities. I would have to--somewhat--agree with that. Why the "somewhat" caveat? I'll admit, I've only ever eaten at the bar here. The dining room looks nice and cozy, but you know what's a real treat? Sitting at the bar with a book and a glass of wine. The atmosphere is quiet and warm, the service is somewhat inattentive, but friendly (and if you're reading a book at a bar, do you really want hyper-attentive service?). The bar is very small (but so is the rest of the restaurant). The wine selection is, however, good. (Um. Well. Caveat here. I'm not really a wine connoisseur of any sort...but the Malbec I had was delicious.) The bruschetta is also a must-have: It's crispy, rich, flavorful and tastes like eating sin. Well, if you're on a diet it tastes like that, anyway. Overall, it's a great place to sit and have a snack. I look forward to trying the full dining experience someday. read more

This was as close to a perfect dining experience as one can have. We visited Rinata for the first time last Saturday night and were blown away. While parking in Uptown can always be a challenge, it's good to know that Rinata has some dedicated customer parking behind their building. We had a reservation and were immediately seated. The restaurant has a handful of cozy rooms which give an intimate feel. The setting is romantic with great lighting and a consciousness of how the decor would look in the low lighting. It all works together in perfect harmony. Dining at Rinata begins with the focaccia bread - a fantastic example of the bread - thick slices with a great salty crust. Definitely addicting. We went on to order the Caesar salad and Margherita pizza. The Caesar dressing was bold and tangy with delicious garlic pepper croutons. The pizza was heaven - the sauce tasted as if the tomatoes had just been picked and together with the mozzarella, basil leaf and slightly charred crust, I could have eaten just that and awarded five stars. Rinata has a small selection of pastas and entrees. What they do, they do exceptionally well. We sampled the fettuccine with shrimp (well, I didn't because I don't care for shrimp, but my husband gave it the thumbs up) and the gnocchi with braised short rib. The gnocchi was a good smooth texture and the short rib was braised until it melted in your mouth. The red wine sauce brought it all together. And while we loved our dishes, we couldn't help ourselves from stealing my sister's mushroom ravioli in a truffle butter sauce. Neither of us are huge mushroom people, but this was an amazing dish. We both declared that we were ordering that the next time we came back and my sister made sure to tout the ravioli to anyone she heard contemplating ordering it. As Rinata's portions are on the manageable side, we had room to try their desserts. The molten chocolate cake had a sweet raspberry sauce with it, the tiramisu had a perfect lightness to it and the mocha chocolate chunk gelato was an amazing blend of flavors and textures. I ordered the single scoop but I have no doubt that I could have polished off the triple scoop with ease. On top of all this delicious food, the service was great, too. This is clearly a restaurant that has the right idea about the diner's experience. Our water glasses were never empty (or even close to empty). The hostess gave us menu suggestions as she seated us and even checked back to see how our meal was. Our server comped the chocolate cake when they ran out of vanilla bean gelato. Every single person who worked there were smiling and treating the customers with respect. Smith...our waiter was very knowledgeable of the food and wine. The items to chose from were the Gnocchi and Spaghetti and Meatballs and YUM! The Gnocchi was very rich and the Spaghetti was made just like my grandmother made it for us...and she was straight out of Sicily. I went in with fairly high expectations based on other Yelp reviews, but my expectations were either too high or we ordered the wrong things. We ordered the bruschetta with blue crab, agnolotti with beef cheek, and fusilli with Italian sausage and chicken. Bruschetta: 3/5 Fishy and shrimpy tasting. The presentation was nice though. Agnolotti: 2/5. These are ravioli-like half-moon-shaped pasta stuffed with beef cheek. The menu described the sauce as a "red wine au jus." I got about 6 agnolottis, swimming in what tasted and looked like beef broth. This is not something I would normally order. I decided to try something new and our server spoke very enthusiastically about this dish when I asked about it. Needless to say, I was disappointed and would not recommend it to anyone. Fusilli: 4/5. This was very tasty, except the fusilli looked and tasted like store-bought rotini. Fusilli has a very distinct shape and what we got was definitely rotini and definitely did not taste home-made. It was at least cooked al dente. The sauce was good, although a tad on the salty side. It contained chunks of Italian sausage, pulled chicken, onions and peppers. Focaccia: 3/5. The complimentary bread served before the meal came with olive oil and tapenade. My fiance said the tapenade was good (I don't like olives). The focaccia would've been so much better had it come warmed. Other Yelpers have said it comes to the table warm so not sure what happened there. Warming the bread is such an easy thing to do and makes such a big difference, so I am always surprised at restaurants that don't make this effort. (As a side note, the best bread I've had so far is at Cafe Lurcat -- it comes hot and crusty with homemade whipped butter.) Service: 4/5. Our server was very nice and polite. My only complaint is that he raved about every item on the menu and was not helpful in giving recommendations. He basically told us that everything is good and that it depends on our tastes. I hate it when I am trying to choose between two entrees and I ask the server to help me pick one and they say they're both excellent. Just pick one -- it's not like I'll know what I'm missing! Other random things to note: The restaurant looks a bit like a house, with multiple small rooms filled with tables. The restrooms are singles and clean. There's a parking lot behind the restaurant which you can access off 25th Street, but it's tiny and it's a shared lot so only a few of the spots are reserved for Rinata diners. We were not fortunate enough to get one and had to hunt for street parking. In summary, I'm still looking for a good Italian place in Uptown. read more

A friend and I decided to venture out on a Friday night to Rinata based on an internet special they had offered. The restaurant was less than 2 blocks from my buddy's house - and neither of us had been. We seated ourselves at the bar, and were warmly welcomed by both the owner and the bartender. This is a great date spot. My fiance and I almost always default to Rinata because it offers the perfect romantic atmosphere for time together. Their menu changes regularly and their wine never disappoints. I wouldn't hesitate to take guests here for dinner either. Food like this at any other restaurant in town would be MUCH more expensive. The food was excellent- great focaccia and bucatini. However, the service was laughably slow and not at all attentive. My date and I ordered a glass of Merlot each, and the waiter neglected to inform us that we could have paid just one dollar more for a full bottle of wine instead (because of a 1/2 price happy hour deal). It would have been nice for him to mention this deal. Perhaps we received poorer service because we are younger patrons... I don't know. It seems like other tables got the flights of the tasting menu exponentially more quickly. Each course came withy an apology from our waiter (20-30 minutes would pass between appetizer, salad, entree, and desert). It was late and I was craving some delicious pasta. Specifically Fettuccini Alfredo. I was bummed that they didn't have any white sauce pastas but only meat sauce ragus. I decided to order the bucatini pasta dish which includes pancetta as the protein in it. The bucatini noodles were very al dente. I took a bite and I could still see the white part of the uncooked noodle. The sauce was a bit salty but I can only guess that was from the pancetta. I had to send the dish back to be cooked new noodles. I didn't finish all of my food. One of the people I was with ordered the fettuccini clam dish and her noodles were hard as well. If you're thinking about getting any of the pasta, I would ask them to cook it longer so you don't have to waste time waiting for the meal again. Rinata is one of those places that is easy to miss on Hennepin, it just kind of blends in. My GF and I have been passed it many times, often wondering if it waseven open, but alas it is just very dark inside and well hidden from the chaos that is Hennepin Avenue. I knew immediatley that I was going to like this place from the ambieance alone, very intimiate seating with, candle lit tables, music playing at just the right volume. The service was all around very accomodating, and the food very good for the price. We each started off with a drink, and then had a spicy sausage appetizer, that had onions, cooked apples, and a mustardy sauce. It sounds a tad unusual, however all the ingreidients complimented each other nicely. I ordered the daily special, which was lamb shank over a potato carrot mix, that was surrounds by a delicious gravy. My significant other had the butternut squash raviolli which was all very good. I remember Rinata as the one of the first restaurants I noted when I moved here 3 years ago. I don't typically like going out for Italian food. I feel that more often than not, I am disappointed. I finally got around to trying Rinata tonight and the experience was amazing and my opinion on Italian food is forever changed. This place always appeared so unassuming, that I never thought their food would be amazing as it was. The meal started with a basket of bread with olive oil + tapenade. The combination was delicious and I knew that good things were coming. I ordered the gnocchi with short rib and mushroom, friend ordered the ravioli special. My dish was simply amazing. The gnocchi was the perfect texture, the short rib was unctuous and fall-apart tender, the whole dish was just perfectly seasoned. My friend enjoyed the ravioli, which came in a smoky tomato sauce that I deemed "bacon sauce." I wanted to savor every bite. I have only ever gotten food this good at restaurants that charge 30+ dollars a plate. At 13-15 dollars, this is a steal! I am so happy that I finally decided to try Rinata. read more

Sourcing recipes from not one but all regions of Italy this place surprises in it's simplicity. Small, dark and definitely intimate you'll find yourself feeling right at home in this tiny restaurant. The staff is minimal at it's peak, and yet they get it all right and right on time. The menu is also smaller, but well curated and ever-changing. I've been a half a dozen times or so and they've yet to fail me. They serve FULL menu till 1 A.M.
