Pokeworks (yes, a franchise...) used to be my favorite place for poke in Orlando after I realized the quality at Poke Hana had declined over the past few years. I think the creator of Rion's noticed the same opportunity I did: the lack of a place in Orlando serving poke with truly high-quality fish. The focus here is clearly the seafood proteins (tuna, salmon, shrimp, or scallops), which are very fresh and cut into large pieces. Each scoop comes with a fair portion. The standard bowl, in addition to the poke scoops, includes rice, ginger, scallions, rice crunches, fried garlic, and sauces. I got a bowl with volcano scallops (delicious and an amazing bang for your buck, you're getting scallops after all) and salmon with a cashew-based sauce. Both were excellent. My friend ordered the tuna options and, for just $2 more, added a side of ocean salad (how they call their seaweed salad). I hope they stay open for a long time, because this has become not only my favorite spot at East End, but also my favorite place for poke in town. read more

Felt compelled to review Rion's Ocean Room again since I recently tried their two new menu items: volcano scallops & Old Bay scallops (both fully cooked). The volcano scallops have krab salad mixed in. Yum! The Old Bay scallops were tossed in a creamy sauce with Old Bay seasoning and that's the primary flavor you taste. Previously, I really enjoyed the creamy garlic shrimp but was informed by an employee they were removed for the time being potentially due to supplier inconsistencies. Initially this made me sad, however the addition of scallops completely makes up for it. I will be thinking of the volcano scallops until I can be back for more! Torched to perfection with a hint of smokiness, nestled in a decadent spicy mayo concoction. Rion's has reignited my love for scallops! This is a great poke spot located in East End Market. I've tried several of their flavors, and my favorites are the Hawaiian Tobiko Salmon/Ahi Tuna and the Sweet Yuzu Salmon/Ahi Tuna. The Hawaiian Tobiko is more of a creamier flavor and the Sweet Yuzu is more of a brighter, cleaner flavor. The rice is usually chewy and well-cooked. However, there was one time I came that it was undercooked and kind of hard, but that honestly felt like a one-off. For the most part, they're pretty consistent. The staff is always friendly and smiley. Even though the lines are almost always long, they move things along quickly and are patient if you're deciding between flavors. I've always had a pleasant experience here. Outside, there's a cute seating area with picnic tables and some shaded spots, which makes for a nice place to sit and eat since Rion's is only grab and go. The only downside here is parking. It can be tough to find a spot since it's in a busy plaza with a lot of other restaurants. read more

Although it is very tasty, I felt the portion side was a little smaller than I'd hoped. Also I don't love that all other toppings are additional. Most other poke places included a few toppings. Rion's Ocean Room is inside East End Market. So you see the poke through a glass kind of like how you see seafood and meat in a glass in a Publix. They have no inside seating here. Just line up and order and eat outside. I ate upstairs inside The Neighbors which was nice. I only wanted a small serving since I was having dinner a few hours later. I ordered a fourth a pound each of macaroni salad and Hawaiian tobiko tuna. Both were so good. I really loved both of them and would want to go back asap. I want to try the sweet yuzu poke next time. The line was long on a Saturday afternoon and the line didn't move super fast even though everything is already prepared and scooped into a container. We visited Rion's Ocean Room on a Sunday around 3pm. They had no line (lucky us) so we ordered immediately. I got the shoyu tuna with some seaweed salad and fresh wasabi. My companion got the garlic shrimp with some crab salad. We also ordered some Maui onion chips. The ahi was honestly so good. It tasted like I was back in Hawaii, and it was very fresh. I love that this place does by the pound and will likely get some for my next gathering. The seaweed salad was very good too, it was really well balanced. The garlic shrimp was actually very tasty too, the shrimp was cooked perfectly and the garlic sauce was awesome, nice and heavy on the garlic. So, obviously I was pretty happy with the food, so why 4 stars? Our total came out to over 40 bucks before tip. Now I know that sushi grade fish is expensive, so I actually think this is totally reasonable for the serving of ahi that I got, but it doesn't make quite as much sense for the shrimp. Especially when you realize that by the pound the shrimp is 7.50 cheaper than the ahi, it doesn't make sense to charge the same amount for it over rice. I was also a little disappointed that the Maui sweet onion chips were deep River instead of a Hawaiian brand. I'll absolutely be going back to Rion's, and I'm excited to try their other flavors like the Hawaiian Tobiko and the Lava Flow. read more

I stopped in pretty late around 4:30p on Saturday, and pretty much everything was gone except the Shoyu Ahi. The employee at the front counter explained the flavor profile difference between the Hawaiian Tobiko vs Shoyu and informed me it has more of a soy/sesame flavor profile and is savory. She was super informative and gave great energy as we discussed the menu offerings. I ordered the 1 poke over rice option with ocean salad ($2 upcharge) spicy mayo drizzle, fried garlic, pickled ginger, tobiko, and scallions. My total was $19 after taxes - and I did sell them out! Since it was a pretty nice day out, I decided to eat outside. The first bite of ahi was fresh and flavorful. Immediately you can taste the soy but it's not overpowering. I do like that the cubed pieces are pretty good in size and are firm. The tip is bring your own seaweed sheets or you can purchase them at the counter, along with their Maui Onion flavored chips. Everything from the ocean salad to the topping in addition to the spicy mayo drizzle was delicious. I loved how bright and fresh everything was. Insanely fresh and delicious poke fish! I got a 1 Poke Over Rice (with the sweet yuzu ahi) while my boyfriend splurged on getting a 1 Pound Party Pack (4 different proteins that came packaged in a little Lunchable looking thing) all for himself. Growing up as a frequent visitor to Hawaii, I tried not to have too high of expectations but again I was surprised with the taste of the poke. He said the fridge is normally filled but at this time only 2 fish options were left. We grabbed two boxes of the two scoop option and sat outside to eat. The portion may look small at first, but it was surprisingly filling, especially with how generously they load it with fish. I grew up in the islands and we always had poke bowls, and it's usually served in bigger plates. $20 for a very small plate seems excessive. I've seen this all over my social media and being a foodie myself AND I love love poke bowls. I've also had poke from hawaii IN hawaii so to me, I feel this could have been a bit better... First let's talk about when we first got there. There was a sign to line on the side and not in front. It happened to me because I happened to be next and some guy just came up and the worker took his order. I feel like the worker needs to pay more attention. If there was someone there to tell me please stand here, then there should be that same person to reinforces when someone comes up in the wrong area. It was just 1 person and it really isn't important however I have two kids that didn't wanna stand in line and was outside playing so I had to constantly eye them. Now to the line. It was weirdly positioned. It was on the side where people go in and out, also the same area where next shop people also had to wait if there is a line. So we are constantly being asked is this line or here or there... There wasn't much guidance and most people are unsure where to stand. Next, the order. I ordered the poke "bow" 2 scoop. Starts at 18$ bucks but added some "garden salad" which is basically seaweed salad. My total for a small portion was 26-27$ It was almost 30$ just for a small portion of poke. I mean they gave a decent amount but still too expensive for a small portion. Now comes the taste. I got the spicy ahi and the yuzu shoyu spicy tuna The yuzu spicy tuna was good I can taste the tangy yuzu and it's fragrant but the spicy ahi was just too much spicy Mayo. Over all, I feel it's okay. It wasn't bad! And it was good but it was not amazing as I imagined it to be. Definitely come for the experience and give it a try! Never hurt to try new things. :) read more

Ok, so I recently went back to Rion's after first trying their food at a preview night because I could not get this poke out of my head. Legit, I have never experienced the level of poke that I've had twice now at Rion's. Apparently, according to friends who have been to Hawaii, this is what poke is like on the island. I can now honestly say this is my new go-to spot for poke in Orlando. First thing's first, the service. Everyone who works here is absolutely incredible. They remembered me from my first visit and talked and joked with me like we were long-time friends. I felt like a part of a family and I *LOVED* that. It's clear that the folks who work here are jazzed to have been part of the opening team. Now onto the food. I opted for the rice bowl with 2 poke options on it, and got some poke by the pound in addition (without rice). Both times I got the garlic shrimp and I will never not get this. I also got to try the ono, ahi, and salmon and am a big fan of the Hawaiian tobiko flavor option on either of them. My best tip is to let the folks who work there pick for you! Finally, I have to give some love to the Maui sweet onion chips they have available by the bag. The flavor was AMAZING. Now, would I suggest scooping it to eat the poke? Beware though the line to get in can take up to an hour if they're busy, and they may run out towards the end of the day. We tried two 2 protein bowls for $18 each, one with spicy garlic Ono and spicy shrimp, and the other with Hawaiian Tobico Ahi, and a salmon/Ahi mix that had a little spice in it. We opted for crab salad and ocean salad toppings. Those are additional charge of $2. I also had the few toppings which included sauce, tobiko, scallion and ginger. Wasabi is also 50 cents charge. 2 bowls and 2 drinks was $50. The flavor and the freshness of the fish was amazing. They have so many choices and the portions are generous as well.
