A trip to Italy can easily ruin your taste for things you once enjoyed and had fondness for, dramatically altering your perspective of Italian cuisine. Omg!!!! This pizza was amazing. I wish I had an excuse to drive to Montebello and get it more often. A friend ordered from here for a pool party and we picked it up. The pizza was nice and hot and delicious. We got 2 large pepperoni pizzas and demolished them!!!!! The slices were nice and big and the crust was amazing! No complaints from me on taste!!! I had a decent rios experience. Ordered to go since my mom and I were on baby sitting duty. It was a little hard to hear them on the phone because it was so loud on their end. I took that as a great sign! That means business is booming... that's means great food! My mom ordered the meatball sub. Bread was perfectly toasted on the outside and soft on the inside. Meatballs were huge! She split this into lunch and dinner! We also ordered a large pepperoni pizza. This is where I had to deduct a star. The pizza flavor was great. Plenty of topping and the middle and top of the pizza were perfect. The crust, however, could have used just another 2 minutes in the oven! It was a bit on the soft and chewy side. So! A fight broke out when we were there on a Saturday afternoon!!! not a good experience especially that it was our first time there and we brought children unfortunately, the kids had to witness this fight and hear the cussing it was pretty crazy. Love this place. I always order pick-up. Really great pizza, wings are super tasty (a little on the smaller side but not covered in fat & skin like other places.) It's not cheap $5 pizza- it's the good stuff. The crust & sauce is delicious as are all their fresh toppings. And they don't skimp- they load the pizza up. They get really busy sometimes- I usually call ahead to pick up an order since I don't like crowds but they have beer on tap if you want to sit-in and enjoy your meal there. Very busy place so I got excited about that, but when I took a bite of the combo pizza it stunk of old onion, toppings were sparse for a $20 pizza! We ordered 3 large pizzas to feed 11 adults and 2 kids. There was plenty leftover and we were all quite full. We had 1 Pepperoni, 1 Hawaiian and 1 Rio's Special (pepperoni, ham, mushroom, onions and green peppers). The cheese was very thick and the toppings were very generous but many of us had a problem of our cheese + toppings separating from the dough + sauce. Not sure how to fix that problem, but it sure made eating the pizza a bit harder than it should have been. Let me start by saying, I have ordered pizza here before and it's always been really good so i am very surprised at what happened. Super Bowl Sunday we ordered to XL pizzas- total came up to almost $50 this is why I was so pissed and why i'm posting this review. When we brought the pizza home it tasted like it was a day old, and it looked like it was re-heated. I did call the Saturday before to pre-order my pizza so i am hoping my order wasn't made that night and reheated on Sunday but i have to say that is what it tasted like. We ended up throwing both away because they were not edible. I called them on Monday after Superbowl and was told that the manager would call me. Never received a call. Rio's is the best pizza in Montebello, point, blank, period. I've tried the other pizza joints in Montebello, and they just don't cut it. BJ's Subs and Grub" is horrible and Pizza Hut and Domino's are just your regular ol' pizza chains, nothing special. Rio's has established itself as "THE" pizza place in Montebello. Whenever I'm there or ordering from there, I get the pepperoni with jalapenos on thin crust. Overall, good pizza, good wings, beer, and excellent antipasto salads. Rio's has good delivery service, and I have never had a problem with them. I think other people would agree that it's a good place to go with family, and enjoy the pitchers of beer, while the kids go and play on the arcades. Rio's is a Montebello institution -- and with reason! As a kid, Rio's was the place to go after sports games (why? I dunno, but it was -- just go with it) Having not been back here in years, my brother suggested we try it out. I'm glad we did. There is nothing super fancy about this pizza. Rio's Pizza is to Montebello what the Peach Pit is to 90210. After all of the football games, everyone headed to Rio's. The pizza is great. If you can go during lunch, they have awesome specials under $6. I usually get the slice of pizza with salad and drink or the mini pizza and drink. The other favorite... is the Grinder. They also serve pitchers of beer and wine. They have an interesting Sprite/Wine concocton, the "wine cooler" that is pretty good. For the price, the pizza is just okay for what it is. I've yet to be "wowed" by either this Rio's or the MPK Rio's pizza. It's not to say that it's a bad pizza, but it doesn't stand out very much. The sauce seriously lacks flavor and is often overpowered by the toppings rather than working with them in a sort of synergistic pizza harmony. The cheese is amazing though and always has the perfect melty mess to firmness ratio. Crust is okay, sometimes they make it too underdone and it feels like you're eating dough balls and pizza toppings (not that I eat dough balls, but I can imagine). The service is kind of shoddy, you need to stand at the counter for a good minute as several clerks walk by before they finally decide on helping you (and they all seem pretty not busy doing anything for the most part)... The huge redeeming factor for this place is the fact that they have a pinball machine (currently South Park)... However, the pinball machine is playable but sort of poorly maintained (dirt in the machine, machine is glitchy and a few elements/toys are broken). To Rio's credit they also have a pretty good selection of video arcade games (look out for this crazy Namco/Bally-Midway 12 games in one machine, it's great). read more

The absolute best pizza around period. Besides the fact I grew up on this small franchise in 4-5 different cities it still satisfies my taste buds. The Montebello one is the best one of the current three. I'm guessing it has to do with being the oldest one still around and the oven being seasoned to perfection or maybe because it's the largest one where you'll come to watch the various sports games on tv. Whatever the case. The pizza is a thick crust kinda sicillian in style, the cheese is perfect compliment to the crust. The sauce is not too watery just thick enough without any tomato chunks. I will have to say the cheese varies sometimes as far as consistency goes. Sometimes the cheese super gooey while other times it's semi-gooey with the top being more solid. Im guessing it depends on when you eat it and when it was cooked. If you're in the Montebello area I would go here, forget Ginas or Two Sals or whatever. As far as the facility it's one large room although it can get packed on Sundays and after little league games. Although sometimes there's no seating on the weekends and we have to take it home.There's video games including two pinball machines along the back wall to kill some time. There's a jukebox that people like to play the same songs over and over again. Usually Led Zeppelin, Santana, Sublime, Bob Marley and some Al Green. The restroom looks pretty grimey with graffiti but it gives it character. But the doors lock, TP is stocked, soap in dispenser, and hot water runs and it's usually clean. There's plenty of parking since it's in a strip mall. Like I said before forgot all the other pizza places in the area. I travel from Anaheim just to get this pizza on Sunday for their Large Pizza Special. I've been going to this place since 79'. Pizza was 5 stars up until the last year or two. I suspect they changed their recipe. Pizza does not taste the same, the crust is tough, pepperoni is smaller and tougher, cheese is not as stringy as it used to be, and overall, ingredients don't have that fresh taste that the pizza once had. Rios, please go back to the original recipe/ingredients. My friends also notice the changes as well. My boyfriend has been eating at this spot since he was a toddler. This was even his first job in high-school. So of course when I was at his place last night, we drove over to Rio's for dinner. He always raves about their pizza and sandwiches, so I had to try it. The place is in a strip mall, and the clientele can be a bit questionable at times, but the food is delicious! At least the sandwiches are because I haven't tried the pizza yet. I had their 8 " Sausage Sandwich which comes with a bag of potato chips and I was in heaven. The sandwich is on french bread, covered with tomato sauce and mozzarella, then baked in the oven for a few minutes. As soon as I took my first bite, I knew I would be coming back here soon. Wow I'm very surprised I haven't reviewed this spot since I am a Montebello native and I have came to this pizza joint numerous times. They host many sports related kids events so they do tend to get crowded. Their is a thick crust and fresh toppings with a crispy bottom. The dough has great flavor and you can eat it on its own. As for their wings they are huge and come in mild, hot, and BBQ. The hot wings have a hint of mexican hot sauce instead of your traditional Frank's hot sauce which makes a spicy tasty flavor.
