Stopped by the new Rising for People Coffee location and honestly had no idea they offered so much more than coffee. The space is huge, bright and really well done. The murals inside and outside are beautiful and add so much life to that area. The menu was a pleasant surprise too. Lots of creative food and drink options and everything felt really thoughtfully put together. You can tell there's a skilled chef behind the food. I also loved the little details, like the cute boot cups. And if you're indecisive like me, the food and drink flights are such a fun idea because you get to try a little bit of everything. SHE IS BACK!! I shouldn't say back because she never left. Sky has been pivoting in her business one battle at a time. And we all have been in awe of her entrepreneurship journey. I have been connecting with her since the farmers market. Then in the dual business location in south Reno. Where I had my first flight drinks. Now in Midtown with her own stand alone building. Its beautiful here; very intention, very cute esthetics, fresh flowers on your table. And there are are still flights. But now we have waffle flights coffee flights and French toast flights. The drink combinations are very creative and flavorful. If you are ever near wells and vesta close to Virginia St. Come check her out. You know its her by the huge mural of a beautiful black woman on the side of her building. They smile and greet you coming in. And bring your finished drink to your table. EDIT: After reading the business owners reply, I think a reasonable solution to the matcha problem would be to have a very clear distinction on the menu between regular matcha and premium matcha. Right now the premium matcha is "nested" under the regular drinks which is confusing and feels like a bit of a scam in my case. This would eliminate price confusion and make it very clear what the customer is ordering and paying for. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I really wanted to like this place, but I can not get over the flaws I experienced during my visit. Upon walking in, I noticed the space was well decorated, but then immediately noticed how filthy it was. I realize I visited about an hour before closing; however, the place was full of people, and yet there was trash everywhere, filthy tables, and dirty floors. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and we ordered anyway. They have a tablet to order- it is not easy to use. So, I asked to order with a person, and they allowed me to do so. The cashier informed me the kitchen was closed, ok, fine. We ordered an Americano and one of the specialty matchas. The cashier informed me that the matcha would cost extra because they were out of the regular matcha, so I would need to upgrade to the premium matcha if I wanted to order matcha. It ended up being a $10 drink. If you're out of something as a business, but you have a more expensive substitute, why should I suffer and pay more as the customer? Shouldn't you provide the higher cost substitute for free since you ran out of the regular product? I felt that was wrong. I was basically being told that I could have matcha only if I was willing to pay for an upgrade I didn't ask for. We also ordered a maple pecan loaf. After ordering, we found a seat at a fairly dirty (but cleaner than the others) table. The drinks came. The matcha is the only reason I am not giving 1 or 2 stars here. It was great. The americano was ok, nothing special. Of course, they forgot the maple loaf and tried to play it off after I got up and reminded them about 10 minutes later. Zero accountability, and then when my "warmed up" loaf finally arrived, it was still mostly cold. Between the many great reviews for this place and the good-looking food menu, I really want to return to give them another chance. However, with so many other great coffee shops and my fairly poor experience, I think I'll have to give my business elsewhere. Bummer! read more

This was my second visit at Rising for People. Came here for brunch on a Sunday and we ordered at the screen. Be aware you can order on your own through a screen or through the cashier. We probably should have ordered through the cashier: the screen order system isn't great as there sometimes aren't detailed enough descriptions of an item. For example, we ordered their new cowboy boot coffee: a 30oz coffee. I wrongly assumed that this was another flight of 3x 10z coffee boots due to the picture on the screen, and also thought it was a set flight as there was no indication to choose your flavor. Just a description box to fill out but without any directions. So we ended up receiving an empty cowboy boot bottle... for $20... thankfully we were able to give them our coffee order and they filled it up without trouble. I would highly recommend changing the screen so the instructions are way clearer. We ordered a lot of food: two cinnamon rolls, waffle sandwich, bridgerton flight, and a toast flight which was delicious: avocado and egg toast, hummus toast, beet toast, avocado and tomato toast. Everything tasted good except the ube cinnamon roll was too sweet. It's a nice space inside. There are a decent amount of tables but I wish there were more tables outside. They also offer a few different brewed coffees to try for free, which is a really nice touch. The staff is nice, but it does take a while to get your items, especially the flights. First time I was there I waited 30 minutes for one flight, but the place was packed. This time was not busy and it still took at least 15 minutes for one Bridgerton flight. Not the best place to go to if you're in a rush, but a great place if you're looking to spend some time sitting there. read more

My friend and I ordered the Hot Chocolate Flight, and we got a peanut butter and chocolate cookie. I felt the prices were steep. However, we were excited to try them. The flight came in shot glasses and was about 3/4 full. It took a long time to get our order. The drinks were lukewarm. The whipped cream on the top of one of the drinks had disappeared, leaving the glass half full. The hot chocolate flight had a French Chocolate, a banana Chocolate, a hazelnut hot chocolate, and last but not least was the bourbon hot chocolate. The French Hot Chocolate was the best in my humble opinion. It was thick and rich. Just like it is supposed to be, I would not be surprised if they used imported chocolate. If they used imported chocolate, that would explain the cost of the flight. The banana had a nice fruit flavor. The hazelnut was ok but weak on hazelnut flavor. The bourbon was just overly sweet but lacked the flavor of bourbon. They have small plastic tea cups for those wanting to share. I love that there is a patio with tables outside. My daughter and I were in the area and decided to try this cozy place. It has vibrant flowers and positive affirmations posted on the wall and basically all around the coffee shop. I came across this place on Instagram. Several things caught my eye from their profile page, including woman owned, veteran owned, but most of all the coffee flights! I travel to Reno at least once every 3 months or so for fun. I stopped in on a Sunday. Normally when visiting a new spot I will order 2 coffees, this visit unfortunately I was about to hit the long road home and opted for one coffee. It was 4th of July weekend and the roads would be super bad. While standing there clueless about what to order to of the friendliest Barista offered to help me out with suggestions. The winner of all the many choices they offered was the Mediterranean Fig with Almond milk. The drink did not disappoint. I also bought one of the concentrated cold brews for home. I was first introduced to Rising when it was located on the south side of Reno. Last year Skylar moved a few blocks from my house. This is going to be dangerous. Besides being in walking distance from my house, the new location is much larger than the old shared space down south. I find it more inviting too. A small patio out front when weather is good. There are board menus on the wall, paper menus on the counter or digital on the computer you can order from. Rising isn't a regular coffee shop. It's the spot indecisive people go. Skylar creates so many unique coffee options. So she offers a variety of coffee flights. She usually has several themed options. I highly recommend many visits and even more flights to taste all the coffees she offers. Also in her new space, she has her own kitchen offering a great selection of sweet and savory breakfast foods and treats. Some are even specifically paired with a coffee creation. We were excited to try this place the next time we were in Reno. Parking is street parking. We did find a space across the street. We wanted to try the Gilmore Girls coffee flight only to find out the change their flights. We ended up trying the flight they had. It was rather more than I wanted to pay but we thought why not. They were all yummy but even with 2 people sharing it was too rich to drink all 4 drinks. We also tried their cinnamon roll. That too was roughly $12. The place was full of people doing work on their computers and they were all at the low top tables. None were available. We had my 89 year old mom and had to sit at a high top table. She is only 4'9 inches high so getting her in the chair was a fun task. I would come back if I saw they had their Gilmore Girls flights back and only if I was already heading to Reno. read more

I genuinely appreciate the responsiveness, accountability, and willingness to make things right. While the experiences outlined below were still disappointing, the way this was handled afterward does leave me open to giving Rising another chance in the future. *** It genuinely pains me to leave a poor review for Rising for People Coffee because I deeply appreciate their ethos and what they are trying to build. Their commitment to sustainability, organic ingredients, fair trade practices, local sourcing initiatives, philanthropy, and community engagement is admirable, and I fully understand and accept the higher price point that comes with those standards. What I take issue with is the gradual decline in service quality over our visits. Our first couple of visits were genuinely great. The drinks and food were enjoyable, the menu felt creative and thoughtful, and the overall experience was positive. As the café became busier, we shifted toward placing pickup orders on weekends rather than dining in. Our first pickup order in February went smoothly overall. We ordered the Secret Cove latte, Blueberry Lemon Waffles, Breakfast Hummus Toast, and a Pistachio Mini Loaf, and everything was enjoyable. Our April 4th pickup order was the first disappointing experience, although I appreciated the way the staff attempted to handle it. We had ordered one of their featured pairings, the Strawberry Shortcake Matcha with the Strawberry Shortcake Mini Loaf. When we arrived, we were informed that the loaf was out of stock. They substituted a comparable loaf and added two small cookies for the inconvenience, which I genuinely appreciated and thought was handled professionally. Our April 9th order was back to being a positive experience overall and is important context because we had successfully ordered the Golden Fig & Honey Mascarpone French Toast before, so we know what the dish is supposed to look like when prepared correctly. The May 3rd pickup order was more frustrating. We arrived only to be told that the Apricot + Sage Chai pairing we ordered was unavailable after the order had already been placed. I had to quickly choose a replacement drink on the spot, and we then had to wait for it to be made despite ordering ahead. When we got home, our Banana Nut Waffles were also missing the whipped cream. Unfortunately, our May 9th pickup order was where everything finally unraveled. We still had to wait after arriving while the rest of the order sat. By the time we got home, the Jewel of the Garden Pomelo Salad was soggy and the mascarpone on the French toast had melted from sitting too long. The biggest disappointment, however, was the Golden Fig & Honey Mascarpone French Toast itself. The menu describes: "Thick-cut Japanese milk bread, oven-baked and layered with whipped mascarpone, topped with fresh figs, pistachio crumble, and a warm honey drizzle. Finished with delicate seasonal florals." What we actually received was burnt slices of French toast with partially melted mascarpone and several toppings completely missing. Since we had ordered this dish successfully before, we knew immediately that this was not representative of how it is normally served. I was at least looking forward to finally trying the Apricot + Sage Chai pairing we had missed previously, but unfortunately the chai was barely lukewarm and overwhelmingly sweet despite being ordered half sweet with almond milk. We attempted to call afterward and received no answer, and the voicemail box was full. I am genuinely happy that Rising has become so popular and busy because Reno benefits from businesses with strong values and thoughtful sourcing standards. At these price points, customers should reasonably expect accurate orders, reliable online ordering, and food that resembles the menu description. Across these visits, our pickup orders ranged from approximately $36 to over $70 before tips, so these are not inexpensive experiences. *** I really wanted to continue supporting this business, and I do appreciate the accountability and responsiveness shown after this review was posted. I came across this place online and decided to give it a try. Outside the storefront, I really appreciated the sign highlighting that it's woman and veteran owned which was a nice touch. That said, the prices felt quite high for what you get. I ordered the blueberry pie matcha latte, which was $9 on its own, and the cup was tiny. The campfire hojicha was similarly priced and not worth. If you're ordering to go, there's also an additional charge for the plastic cup, which was surprising, especially compared to other coffee shops that don't do this. I'm visiting from Los Angeles and even there I don't pay this much for coffee or matcha. Unfortunately, the drinks themselves tasted just okay for the price. Came in on the Friday after thanksgiving. They were pretty busy but there were a lot of tables open since most people were getting to go. They had one register and I think two self serve kiosks which made the line go a bit faster. Service was friendly and our items came out quick. We ordered a pistachio latte, traditional cinnamon roll, waffle sandwich and an iced americano. The total was ~$45 + tip. The pistachio latte was good. It had bits of actual pistachio which was surprising. The Iced Americano was also good. It wasn't bitter like a lot of other Americanos tend to be. The waffle sandwich was decent. Nothing really notable except the bacon on it was limp. The cinnamon roll I got was burnt. The decor was nice. The fridge right by the entrance kind of takes away from the ambiance. I liked the fresh plants on every table. However, the tables are kind of slippery and there were some close calls with the plants about to slide off. The chairs are also a bit uncomfortable. This place is absolutely not worth the price. One burnt cinnamon roll was $11. I kind of wanted to try the waffle flight but after looking it up it seems like it's just one waffle thats cut up into 4 pieces for $25 and it doesn't even come with sides. I travel a lot and it's surprising that Reno tends to have the most expensive prices with quality that doesn't match. The quality of the drinks were 4/5 but not with their food items. I've been wanting to try this place for a while and was finally able to make it in the other day - so glad I did because it's definitely one of my new favorite coffee shops. The staff were super friendly and asked if it was our first time there, they proceeded to explain popular items from the menu and their recommendations. We ordered breakfast burrito with the veggie wrap and it was absolutely delicious, it was filled with well seasoned meat, eggs, potatoes and came with delicious sauce and some fresh fruit. We devoured it before I even had a chance to take a picture of it. We also got a tasty mini loaf, a pour over black coffee (great, balanced flavor), and a refresher drink (deliciously refreshing). The place itself has a cool mural outside and an order window Inside is a cool open space with tables and lots of plants. You can order from a kiosk or can order from a real person. The person that took our order was very nice and walked us through the menu and options. We ended up going with a Toast and Spooky (drinks) Flight and also ordered an Ube Cinnamon Roll. The cinnamon roll came out warm and the Ube frosting was super tasty. The Toast Flight was super delicious and really couldn't pick a favorite because they were all so good, specially topped with their chili crisp. This was a fun new coffee shop that my Running Group tried this morning and I couldn't wait to finish the run and get back to try their menu. The menu is lengthy and you can check out more from the screens to the right of the cash register to see the details of the menu. I really wanted to try the shots of coffee taster 'flights' and some of the wonderfully fall flavored items but I stuck to my usual oat milk mocha and a friend got the 'fall night' coffee which had white mocha and marshmallow I believe. My mocha came out, beautifully presented with whip cream and chocolate dusting, and the friends came out looking equally as wonderful. First taste, I have to say it tasted like a hot chocolate and was a little overwhelmingly sweet for my taste and I couldn't taste the coffee flavor... as I got halfway through and notes of the coffee came through - it was good! And I consider myself somewhat of a coffee snob. It's a great Midtown location with decent parking near and and has a fun lively feeling upon entering the shop. What really appeared to be the home run of the visit was the food, that I didn't partake in, but several of the table did.. the bacon grilled cheese with butternut squash soup looked amazing as well as several of their sandwiches and soup, combos the breakfast sandwich, and all of the pastries, cinnamon rolls, etc. I then saw they had a waffle sampler/flight as well & avocado toast flight. Wow! What an awesome concept to offer flights of food and coffee to give more variety for their customers! I will go for another visit to sample more from their menu --but for me who likes to taste their coffee a bit more, I will just ask for less sweetness, but if you like sweet coffees, this is your place! read more

I came here for the first time on Sunday around 1230pm. When I walked to the door, other patrons were outside and informed me that they were closing because they ran out of food. I went up to the window and asked the gal working. She said they were short staffed and were also low on their food. I told her I just was looking for a place to have a drink and read. She said I could go in since other patrons were finishing their meals. She was really kind and cleaned the table for me. I went to the counter to order a drink, and the system seemed a bit confusing, but I'm chalking that up to the short staff situation. There was a kiosk to order food but then there was also a man taking orders at the counter. When I approached him he seemed a bit irritable that I was asking for a drink. He had to clarify with the woman earlier that she allowed me inside. I ordered their 'sweet matcha'. Their only milk options they had were whole milk, oat, almond and coconut. I opted for coconut. My drink was about $10 and it was a bit disappointing. Staff continued to turn people away stating they were short staffed and didn't have enough food. However, as time went on, they started letting patrons come in and order but informed them that they did not have all menu items available. I first discovered Rising for People back when they were inside Haven on Earth in South Reno, and I've been following along since, eagerly awaiting them to open their own place. Their new location has definitely been worth the wait! The coffee flights were the main draw for me, and such a fun way to explore the menu. You can pick any four drinks, and each 5oz pour feels like its own little creation with unique flavors, foams, and toppings. I tried the Honey Pistachio, White Chocolate Rose, Blackberry Sage Cold Brew, and Peaches & Cream Thai Chai. All were delicious, with the Honey Pistachio and White Chocolate Rose as standouts. I also tried the August Nights Latte, which was like dessert in a cup. The space is bright and modern, with a beautiful mural outside and thoughtful touches like water served in glass bottles. Parking can be a little tricky, but once you're inside, it's worth it. They even offer curbside pickup if you don't want to deal with parking, which I may try the next time if not coming in for the experience of a flight. The flights are a bit pricey, but the creativity and quality make it feel like more of an experience than just grabbing coffee. Easily one of the most unique spots in Reno. read more

Came in and ordered a large iced drink, was given the small size and it was the shaken pumpkin sage coffee. It tasted awful, I got a remake and called out the fact that it was a small and should have been a large and the barista just ignored what I said and made the small anyways. Remake was better, but not life altering. The frustration with the size issue kind of ruined it for me. The maple pecan glazed banana bread was a WIN! Get that! I would love to try their other pastries! Interior is a cool vibe, definitely somewhere you could get some work done. read more
