Rising Sun Bar & Kitchen is a little hard for me to rate because, honestly, we never really got to experience it. The place has a very casual, come-as-you-are bar-and-kitchen vibe, which fits the area well. Nothing felt overly polished or fancy, and that is not a criticism. It seemed like the kind of local spot where people can just show up, relax, and get a solid meal. The problem was the service on this visit. We showed up right around the breakfast-to-lunch transition and thought we had made it in time for breakfast, but apparently not. We got seated pretty quickly, which made it seem like things were moving along, but then we sat there for about 20 minutes with water glasses and no water, and really no meaningful attention at all. By the time someone finally came over with the water, we were already done and decided to head somewhere else down the street. It was also getting fairly loud while we were sitting there, and the staff seemed tired or stretched thin, so I would not be surprised if we caught the place at a bad moment, maybe during a shift change or just an awkward transition between breakfast and lunch. The restaurant was busy, which usually says something good, and the food we saw going to other tables looked pretty solid. That is why I landed on 3 out of 5. This was not a bad experience in the usual sense. It was more of a non-experience. We never got far enough to judge the food, and I do not think it would be fair to hammer the place over one oddly timed visit. But sitting that long without even getting water was enough for us to leave. read more

I have come here several times for a casual meal, a family get-together, and to have a nice Friday or Saturday night with some live music and good drinks! I always enjoy coming to this restaurant as they have a unique menu that combines American classics with some Asian dishes as well! Went yesterday and had a Korean Rice bowl that included Korean brisket, sunny side up egg, veggies, rice, and a nice chili kick to top it all off! My mom had the roasted beet salad which was perfect for a warm summer day! Our bill came out to $45 and we left happy and full! It's very cute inside. We started with drinks that were pretty good. I ordered coffee and they had no dairy alternatives for creamers. We ordered the avocado Benedict and the Philly breakfast sandwich. The sandwich was decent, nothing special. My avocado Benedict was very cold when I got it. The avocados on it were not ripe at all and I had a hard time cutting through it with a knife. The waiter told me it was because they freeze the avocados so even if I got new ones, they would be hard too. I asked if I could get my food warmed up or re made. He told me it was because the avocados were frozen it made the whole dish cold. He ended up removing the dish from the bill. read more

Came here for breakfast and were seated inside. Our server was Austin. He was friendly, efficient, and wasted no time taking our orders. For breakfast we ordered: The Breakfast BLT, Omelet Sunrise and The Meat lovers Omelet, coffee and a couple cocktails. The food was delicious and Austin was great. He frequently checked on us, refilled the water carafe, and made sure we had plenty of coffee & cocktails. Another server named Party brought out our food and was friendly, telling us all about the restaurant. This place is beautiful inside and out. They put a lot of money into the renovations here and it shows. They have a very large bar with plenty of seating, tables & high tops. Hard to beat the outdoor space, with a variety of tables, a lounge area, outdoor bar, and plenty of shade. The bar area inside is gorgeous too, with exposed beams and lots of light and plants. The food has never blown me away, although I've never had anything bad, and there's a lot of variety, as well as a good kids menu. The ambiance and friendly service are what keep us coming back, and it's good enough to justify five stars. read more

It's all about the service. Everything else deserves a very good rating, but I'll tell you why I had to leave one star. It was a full hour before we got ANY FOOD. We were seated right away, which was great. We were out on the patio which was beautiful. We were greeted by our waitress, Zaelys, in a normal amount of time. We ordered our drinks, all soft drinks, nothing from the bar. It took some time but nothing crazy. She took our order at 4:09 pm ( according to the receipt) and we did not get our appetizers until around 10-15 minutes after 5:00. While we waited that hour + for the appetizers, we, of course, ran out of drinks and sat with a table of 5, with empty cups and empty water for well over 20 minutes until I flagged her down to order another set of drinks. The appetizers were served with no plates, napkins or utensils. I got the utensils myself from the bin by the door on my way back from the bathroom. We had 3 appetizers to share amoung 5 people and no plates. But we were SO HUNGRY by that point we just ate them over the table! I didn't get a pic of the appetizers also because we were so famished! The dinner came at 5:30, and I got pictures of that, so I am sure it was 5:30 at that point. The food was all good, no complaints there. But I decided to find the manager after we ate and let him know the whole story. He said, "sorry about that" .... And that was it. Had he done ANYTHING AT ALL to try to make it right, i would have left a very good review. The place is cute, clean, decorated nicely, and good bathrooms. We have been there before for breakfast and liked it, so decided to go again today for a celebration dinner. Maybe we just got unlucky with the service. read more

Our server explained they were busy and kitchen was running slow... it's Saturday night, so you expect that... we didn't care. I have been to Rising Sun many times. The first time was a good experience with slow service. The atmosphere is good as usual. Today I ordered the pulled brisket sandwich. It was bland and dry. Thw bread was greasy and messy though. Weird. I asked for mustard and salt and pepper to spruce it up. The service was slow and I never received my condiments. As a result my food got cold and I sent it back to the kitchen. My family got the pasta for their Monday Pasta Night. Salads didn't come out so I had to ask for them. Their pasta entrees came out first. It was kind of a disastrous dining experience. My wife and I took our adult children out to dinner while they were visiting from out of state. All I can say is the service and food are always inconsistent. Some days it's great and some times it's just awful. We were offered a free dessert. We had a total of 4 people dining. This seemed lame since there had been so many mistakes. I waited for a manager to come to our table to check in but this never happened. I do not feel I should have to ask for this. Had a very nice lunch with the kids here. The space is light and open and then service was fast and friendly. We had the tuna poke bowl which was very good but a relatively small serving, the mango cobb salad, shrimp sushi, chicken wings, and the kids had quesadillas, grilled cheese and chicken bites. Wonderful time trying out the happy hour at rising sun! Their happy hour is earlier at 3-5 pm but it is very good. They have lots of food and drink specials. The presentation and taste of the drinks are excellent. And the food is very delicious. The bubbletini I got was very sweet but so fun to drink! They brought it out with a bubble on top that poured out smoke once it popped. The espresso martini came with a printed design on the top too! And it tasted wonderful. The ambiance of this place is to notch! Every part of this place was designed with great intentionality and a focus on the customer experience. We were greeted immediately by the hosts and were sat within a minute. Our server was attentive but not overbearing and provided excellent service. The place has a solid beer list, unique cocktails (printed edible graphic on top of the espresso martini!), and a lot of bar space. This next comment could seem disparaging, but it's not: they do a great job marrying premade menu items (from major food manufactures like Sysco) with ingenuity items and additions.
