Given the high number of reviews, was expecting something of better quality. The chicken tortilla soup was too salty, I basically just ate the chicken and didn't drink the caldo. Probably one of the largest burritos I've ever eaten. A lot of people gave the review that this is just an up skilled Taco Bell and I can see that. The sauces and salsas are really delicious. Docking one point because there's so much meat it's almost absurd/weird. The chips were also a bit too salty/often times I would have to dust off the salt before I took a bite. Ya'll, I don't get the hype. Cali style Mexican food, yeah they have it... buuuut what I had wasn't good quality. I like Cali tacos and burritos and all that jazz, but for me Rivas is not great. Rivas is a mom-n-pop, no-frills kind of spot. The layout is kind of wonky though. What they want you to do is immediately hook a right and then make your way to the front to order, but what everyone does is immediately go to the front and then realize there's a line you need to join. I get why it's set up that way because where else can they really put the line because of the counter placement... but it's messy. I will say the food is beyond reasonable. I don't think we paid even $20 for our two meals with drinks (drinks do not come with the combos :/ ). And you don't have to tip because they do it Chico's style here where they just yell out your number. I ordered the #1 which was a tostada and beef taco with beans and rice. The rice was probably my favorite and mixed well with the beans. The tortilla for the tostada was cooked a little too long so it had a slight burnt taste and was only topped with beans, a hefty portion of lettuce, and a sprinkle of cheese. Aside from the burnt taste, this could've been better with more cheese and some tomatoes and maybe some onions. The taco was my least favorite. The shredded beef inside the taco was almost dehydrated so it had more of a beef jerky texture. I did like the hard tortilla shell on this one though so if I was going to go back to Rivas I think I would go with tacos, but just a different type of meat. I'm not opposed to giving Rivas another shot, but based off of my first experience it left me very unimpressed. Great little spot for Mexican food. Well rounded menu with some surprise items like tacos ahogados (smothered) and Buffalo fries! We had the supreme fries, the meat and beans were so well seasoned, fries beautifully hot and crisp. The tacos ahogados pair the green Chile sauce with the crispy flauta taco so perfectly with its soft shredded chicken. Highly recommend both! The service was well above average, with hosts being attentive, welcoming, and timely. Food was fast and they have weekly specials easy seen from right outside the front windows. The lady behind the counter was very nice and patient with my very dumb questions (all could have been answered by looking at the menu) I got a shrimp and steak burrito, my wife got a 2 carne asada tacos plate and my kid got a carnitas plate. I'll update you on the taste in a sec. Ok so we got our food and I must say my burrito is small as hell lol. I asked for sour cream and cheese and it came without both. As much as I always tell myself I'm going to try a different burrito, I can't help but always order the Steak Ranchero burrito! It always hits the spot and has a bit of everything including two fried eggs delicious! I do also recommend the surf and turf quesadilla or any of the supreme fries options you can't go wrong. Atmosphere is good, good music and plenty of TVs around to catch the sports games with a nice cold beer! The staff is friendly and welcoming, they check up on you if dining in which is always nice, they also accommodate as best they can when needed. Just moved back home from the west coast after 20 years, 17 of that in the Navy, and the california burrito is one of the best I've had. service was great, the young ladies at the registers were helpful and answered questions without hesitation. This place is really good. I got the surf and turf burrito and they give you a really big burrito. I did get the spicy sauce on the side. I like spicy, but I thought the spicy sauce was really spicy.
