The building has a cool vibe with graffiti from past patrons on the walls, license plates from all over the USA decorating the dining room and an ocean view. Our server was Sidney and she was awesome! The service was excellent and she made time to check on our table regularly even though the place was very busy. The menu offers a wide variety of appetizers. Our party had onion rings, cheese sticks and fried mushrooms. They were all fresh and hot and very good. I should also mention you are provided with free peanuts in the shell at your table when you're seated so there's plenty to snack on while you enjoy the restaurants atmosphere and talk with your friends. The rest of the menu has literally dozens of hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and specialty items like "The Darlington 500", a 1/2 pound of deep fried baloney served with onions on Texas Toast. I had it, it rocked. We were all too full to indulge in desserts but there were plenty to choose from. Everyone in our party commented how much they enjoyed the experience and we want to return soon. This was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we have had in a long time. We visited as a party of four (two Myrtle Beach locals and two visitors) on Labor Day at about 6pm. It is kind of ashame, because the two locals visit this place quite frequently and they told us they will likely not return again for quite some time. It was my first time at this establishment. The restaurant is a two story restaurant with a waiting area outside on the ground level. Only the second floor was open on this evening. The third floor was closed off. Once we arrived, there were two hostesses, both of which were very miserable and rude. They quoted us a 45 minutes wait for first available table. We ordered drinks from the bar and went outside by the bridge over the dunes behind the restaurant. Once we were texted to be seated, we were assisted by a server who definitely could have cared less about working that evening. That seemed to be the theme in this restaurant -- employees that really didn't care. So, was the food good? Well........kind of. My burger was pretty solid; however, mistakes abound. We started with an order of the fried pickles, which I found to be very good! I then ordered the surf n turf burger with no tomato. The server repeated the order back, and it all was correct. When i received my burger, it had tomato and it was missing both the shrimp and the spicy chili glaze. Yes, that is what made the burger surf and turf. They forgot it. I told the server, and she just "growled" and then took the plate and walked away. I received it back 3 minutes later with some popcorn shrimp on top and a side of ranch!!??!! I asked for a manager (when I went to visit the restroom) and she told me there were none available. We finished our meal and we paid. No compensation was given for the myriad of mistakes. All four of us "upgraded our meals" to onion rings as our side. Just so you know, each of us received two onion rings each that were incredibly overbreaded. Just as an FYI, to know where your upcharge is going. A very disappointing meal with a staff that does not care. It truly is ashame. read more

The options for bums, meat, and toppings is crazy. I took the mushroom Swiss, had them blacken (Cajun season) the burger, load it with the lettuce, etc, add jalapeños, and swap in a pretzel bun. I also went with the grotesquely large onion rings. I thought about the sweet potato fries, but stayed the course. River City is a place we often hit when in the area. Its one of the few places in Surfside on the water and its a great place to hunker down with a cold drink and a burger. The burgers are reasonably priced and decently sized. They're always cooked well. They don't come with fries but if you order a basket of fries they're plenty to share. While you wait for your food you can enjoy the baskets of peanuts they have out for you. You can sit inside our outside. If there's a wait they take your phone number and text you when your table is ready so you can walk around the beach or the nearby shops. However, the wait is never as long as they say so don't go too far! All in all a great little beach bum place to grab lunch or dinner! read more

This was probably one of the worst experiences that I have ever had dining out in a restaurant. Above our table was a rusted overhead piece of ductwork that ended up coming down on my head not once but twice and what came down was rust off of the ductwork. If I had been still eating my meal this would've landed right in my food. But instead it landed in my hair, on my shirt and on the table in front of me. I asked to have a manager come over and the waitress explained to him what had happened. She said he would fix the issue. I said NO! I want the manager to come over. He did and had an attitude saying he would call someone in to fix it. Had the gall to say if it had landed in my meal, they would have comped it! Not one apology, offer of discount NOTHING!!!!! Worst case of customer service I have ever experienced. I should have walked and and not paid my bill! Will tell all my local friends and family to never step a foot in their door. If i could give ZERO stars I would 9/4/2019 Never heard anything more from River City Surfside other than they were going to pass it up the line. read more

Dined in 2x while down for a week, drinks late 1 night & had some takeout goodies to enjoy by the pool. Sitting at the bar is fun getting to talk to to all the servers, who were fun, friendly, and ALWAYS more than accommodating!! Great location amongst the pier, beach houses and beach. The burgers are massive, the sides are paired well & the menu is simple but has several out of the ordinary offerings that make River City a unique place to eat. But the people make it what it is!! We went to have lunch on the 4th of July, arrived just after 1:00 pm. There was a military flyby scheduled for 1:03, so we walked to the side of the building so our 9-year old could see the planes before we went up to eat. The kid checking people in screamed at us that we must immediately go inside or move our vehicle out of their lot. We explained we would be right there to check in, he said it didn't matter...come inside or leave...that's the policy. We're locals and always take visiting family there to eat. I don't know what has happened in the past year but they seem to be getting worse and worse in how they treat their customers. Go-to spot whenever I'm in Surfside Beach! Definitely try to get a seat outside so you can enjoy the ocean view! My first choice is always the Three-Alarm Fireburger, and it always hits the spot just right. I ended up getting the Nacho Crunch Burger last night and it was just as good! The burgers are always juicy and flavorful and the different, eclectic burgers are a fun way to end off a night! I was excited to try this place based on the pictures and the reviews. Let me begin by saying I will give it a second chance. It's spring break. Restaurants are struggling to find workers. And everything has been shut down for a year. Our family of 4 ordered take out. When I got to the bar the bar tender handed me my ticket and walked away. I had my payment ready but just stood there not knowing what to do. After about 5 min someone came By and asked if I needed help. They took my payment. Then I watched the food being placed in to go boxes and sit. Workers were coming and going and I just stood there trying to be patient. It took about 6 min before someone different came By and asked if I needed help. I informed her I was waiting for my food that was sitting under the heater. She bagged everything up. Let me say that each person I spoke to was very polite. One child asked for popcorn shrimp. The rest of us had a burger all the way. I didn't have mayo mustard pickles ketchup or onions. Thank goodness we had condiments at the camp site. I had the Surf and Turf burger If I had known the onion rings were one giant onion skin I would Have ordered fries. The shrimp were good although slightly greasy. We will try this place again in the summer in the hopes that it will be better. The best surprise was finding raisins in my Cole slaw.
