Well...after a .2 minute wait to get a table, which we were most grateful for, then the real wait began. We asked for coffee and waters. The coffees came relatively quickly but was less than hot. After 30 minutes we asked for waters which were promptly served. After 45 minutes from arriving we asked about our food order, and with a less than pleasant attitude we were informed it was coming soon. After another 15 minutes our food was finally served. Adequate would be best way to describe the corn beef hash Benedict, overdone and very meager serving of corned beef with an over abundance of potatoes hash brown. Sides of bacon were also overcooked. Tried out Rjs after coming by once before to pick up a to go order unsuccessfully. The first time my family came by was about a month ago we stopped by when we were in the baby beach area walking around and stopped by to attempt to get breakfast to go. Unfortunately the service was busy and when the hosts asked if anyone could take a to go order each passing waiter abruptly said no, so we decided to leave. Today we came by to give it another shot and dined in. It was a 15 min wait and was just as busy as last time, so it seems this is the regular pace. The waitstaff were just as curt with their questions and my order came out a little incorrect but we decided to live with it. My family ordered the Megan's sandwich, the rjs potatoes, and the Richard's combo. The potatoes were the best of the three dishes but I was really hoping my French toast would be great but everything was just average for around $15 a plate. It's a famous spot with stars from old Hollywood having dined here in the past but right now the vibe is everyone is too busy to have a great customer service and the food is just okay. read more

Excellent place to go for breakfast/brunch when in Dana Point. The portions are sizable, so the 12-18 dollar prices are more than fair. I have only come here once, but from what I ordered the food is delicious and I do plan to come again. However, do prepare to wait around half an hour to be seated because this place can get very busy. My only two complaints would be the restrooms and the wait time. Half an hour isn't that long of a wait, but they don't take phone numbers nor do they have portable devices that can alert people when their table is ready. Because of this, you have to stand within earshot of the restaurant instead of going for a walk in the meantime. Additionally, the restroom wasn't the cleanest during my visit. Maybe this was a one-off occurrence, but it threw me a bit off before getting seated. Despite this, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a filling breakfast. read more

Long wait around 11AM on a Sunday. 45-50 min wait (to be expected if the place is good). After being seated it's another 15-20 minutes to wait for food. Came here with Mr. W (boyfriend) and my girlfriend Jenny with her husband due to their recommendation. We were seated outside, with many groups with dogs - we were totally dog watching while waiting for our food. Our group shared the tasty cinnamon bun. Soaked in butter and sweet flavor, we worked on it before our food arrived. I ordered the Italian Sausage, provolone smothered in our homemade marinara sauce which made me envision I was eating pizza...but in omelette form! Totally took me for a turn as vision and taste buds are saying different things! Mr W ordered steak and eggs. Steak was quite bland to him. From most steak experience, they are usually lightly seasoned. Mr W ended up asking for sauce - turned out to be A1 sauce as that was all they had. Jenny ordered a sausage and cheese omelette, while her husband ordered Corned Beef Hash with 2 eggs. Our entire group was pretty happy and full with our meal when we left. Our server was Rose and she did an exceptional job meeting all our needs! I don't know the name of the other server helping her as we had a party of 15. Our group of 4 was seated within 5-10 minutes (no reservation system) at an outdoor table under some powerful heaters. We had the absolute nicest waitress who was super kind and bubbly! Service was quick but not pushy. We started with a cinnamon bun for the table and it was perfectly warm, gooey, and buttery - definitely the right way to start a meal! (Sorry I wrote this late) Me and my mom had just checked out of a hotel (I'm a teenager with a palate) and it was around 12:00pm when we arrived. The building turned out to be flipped around and we found it hard to park and find the waiter to be seated. When we did eventually find the waiters desk, we were seated on the patio which was really nice and had lots of vegetation and hid the parts of ghetto (not that there was much) it was honestly a nice ambiance. When we were seated we were served with our drinks pretty fast. My mom ordered a coke and I got a root beer. The waitress was also polite but did not introduce herself. I ordered a strands omelette but added Jalapeño and tomatoes. My mom ordered a Lobster Benedict. The omelette was good but could have been a little more on the seasonings and the bacon seemed really fatty. (I hate lobster) but my mom said her Benedict had the best sauce she ever tasted. Best of Dana Point - Nothing fancy or too complex. It's simple high quality brunch options that will leave your plate scraped cleaned and your belly satisfied. We ordered a few things of the menu but the two standouts were the Feta Avocado Scramble and the Steak Tostada (A grilled flour tortilla topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and lots of steak). Both were flavorful, but I would recommend adding breakfast sausage to the feta scramble and adding some of their house made salsa on top. - This was the first time in a long time where everyone's plate was completely finished. - Tons of staff working cohesively helping each other out. Everyone seemed to be on the same page.... - Their salsa includes oregano giving it a unique taste. Great on top of their home potatoes. Tip - It's assumed that this place is roughly a 45 minute wait on weekends. However, if you come at 1PM there was no waiting, and it's the same menu. read more

We come here frequently, my husband does more than I do. He takes our boys here for breakfast before they go fishing, they love it. It's a cute Cafe with indoor or outdoor seating. Waitresses are sweet, but usually busy and require patience. Coffee isn't the best but not the worst either! The food is pretty good. This is our favorite little diner in Dana Point.We've learned that just because a restaurant is near the water does not mean it's 'fancy' or even good. RJ's is fairly priced with good quality food and has yet to disappoint us! We highly reccomend the Cinnamon Roll French toast! We were in the area and wanted to try someplace new. RJ's is a wonderful spot; clean, cozy, very friendly and helpful staff, and the food was good. Tried the basic eggs, bacon, potatoes & English muffin. One egg was a tad overcooked, but "over medium" is tough, a fine line getting it perfect.... should always just go for "over easy". Their cinnamon rolls are great!! There was pretty much a constant line for the ladies' room (one stall), but other than that, we had a great first (for me) visit. Will definitely return!! Went out for a drive and ended up here for lunch. I had the blue cheese burger which was very good. Didn't think I could eat a half pound burger but I finished it. Washed it down with a very nice cold 805. The wife had the hangar steak salad which was big and the steak was pretty tender. The only negative was that the couple next to us had a champagne split and the waiter opened it and poured the lady her glass. From their conversation It seemed they might be regulars. Our drink guy, not the waitress, dropped ours split on the table and walked away. So I guess newbies have to earn friendlier service. All guests should be treated the same in my book. read more
