I've been to 4 Thai places in Marin and this is the only one worth returning to. First of all, the soups don't have that astringent residue, a telltale sign of MSG. Also, the Tom yum soup has a clear broth with a strong lemongrass flavor. I like that. Other Thai places have a deep red broth that lets you know they rely on the shortcut of using pastes. I don't like that. Besides Tom yum soup, we ordered the specials. The shrimp with asparagus was delectable. Tonight we ordered the beef Masamun curry. This wasn't a favorite, as the beef cuts were tough and the curry broth was limp and watery. The sautéed eggplant with tofu was plain heavenly. Hot, moist, and smoky. The coconut rice was surprisingly flavorful, as it was mixed with raisins and maybe saffron (it gave the rice a yellow hue). The best part is, and this is another sign of authenticity, they provide you with real Thai chilis in fish sauce. It's upon request only. read more

Asked for vegan Pad Thai. The waitress said "no egg?" I said "That's right, vegan, no egg." The dish arrived did not taste right... then on closer inspection I see what looks like scrambled egg all the way through it. I call her back. I say "oh, there's egg in this; I asked for vegan." She apologizes and takes it back and arrives back with my plate. Typically, I think this place is decent but my family ordered pad Thai the other day and we all tasted mildewed sponge. It was VERY clearly that taste. We had about 24-36 hour stomach pain so it really worries me about the cleanliness of the kitchen. Sadly disappointing! We ordered takeout from here last night, Saturday, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was amazing! There was a group of people waiting for a free table around 9pm and the waitresses were buzzing around and everyone was friendly. Definitely the dining room I would want to be in on a Saturday night. However, the food left us wanting more: -The buffalo wings had an incredible sauce, but could have been cooked a little longer. -The prawn pad Thai, hardly had any prawns and the sauce was more spicy/tomatoey than peanuty which is totally a bummer in my book and the tofu was so drenched in oil it tasted like slices of butter, also a huge bummer because I normallylove fried tofu. -The peanut sauce in the praram curry was pretty good but deserved to be more flavorful and exciting and we hardly got any beef, and slim vegetable pickings as opposed to the description. Conclusion is a great atmosphere, the good wasnt amazing but I might give it another try, just skip the pad Thai! read more

We order takeout from here every time we visit our son's family in Kentfield. Everything we have ordered is terrific. My two year old grandson told us last weekend as soon as we arrived that he wanted Thai food for dinner (R'noh Thai is where they always go) so of course we totally agreed to that request!! read more

Despite the glowing reviews, our visit was one big disappointment. The vegetarian eggplant dish was too oily and too sweet, as if baked in sugar. The Pad Thai was ok, and the lamb curry was pretty much tasteless (the meat was probably a cheap cut as it lacked any texture). The coconut rice was too oily, and lacked any coconut flavor. The desserts were outright lousy. We ordered mango rice and Thai custard with rice. Given the amount of food, both were extremely overpriced. They also were completely tasteless. read more

Tried this place last night & will definitely return. The service was friendly & dining on the patio was nice but, the food is really what we enjoyed most! The Thai Fresh Rolls were light & tasty & we really enjoyed the mint in it. Also, the papaya salad & green curry were really delicious! I have been a loyal customer of this restaurant for nearly 20 years! Me and the family loved their food and use to order from them almost every other week. We moved away from Marin few years ago and I was visiting back for a business trip. I was really exited to order their food again. I stayed in the nearby hotel and ordered for delivery through Dine In Marin. My favorite duck curry. You can't imagine how disappointed I was when my food arrived! I paid $32 for duck curry with no rice, no silverware, no napkins! Just a bucket of curry. Absolutely disappointing! I called the place and they were absolutely unapologetic. As I get older, I realize more things about myself. Some good - some disgusting, some oddly amusing and some are none of your freaking business! God! One of these realizations is that Thai is a great love of mine. Spicy, coconutty, fresh and piqant, it is the perfect marriage of all flavors in one dish. And it is NEVER short of delish. Today's Thai Adventure was in Larkspur at R'noh - no idea to pronounce it, but this I do know - it is worthy of a sit down, that is for sure. Lunch specials today were lemongrass chicken and pumpkin curry, with bornw rice my friend Red and I shared them - which was better, I couldn't even say, let me tell you about them, and judge you may! The Lemongrass was clean with a sneaky spice. Chicken, zucchini, carrots too, red peppers added crunch - very tasty for lunch. The pumpkin curry, I am always a sucker for. Only problem here was the pumpkin was a little undercooked, but that velvety curry with a backside heat was hard to put down, I drizzled it on everything, can't be beat! R'noh Thai is one of the better Thai places in Marin. That's saying something, because I happen to think the Thai scene here is decent, even if there are a few 'bad nuts' in the peanut sauce, so to speak. Really, there's at least three others I'd readily recommend, so the fact that this cute little hole 'n the wall registers strongly is a testament to their fresh and excellent taste, atmosphere and super nice service. To 'Suge' who has unkind words for people who shift tables away from her kids: Sorry, but Marin is FULL of awareness-challenged sucky parents who let their kids run wild, scream, set fires, levitate and rotate their heads 360 degrees in full Linda Blair style. The art of parenting is truly deceased in these here parts, so forgive us fat (sad but true), ugly (maybe), rich (sadly NOT so true) 'innocent' Marin folk who want to give your potential mini-terrorists a wide berth. Lots of us are just shell-shocked by crappy parents. It's nothing personal. Anyway, back to R'noh. Great service, they'll sit you AWAY from yapping kids (yay!) and are always very friendly. The pseudo-fire-pit is funky and cool and the place drips a warm, cozy Thai food vibe with delicious smells. My Pad Thai last time was excellent. Pricing is reasonable, not dirt cheap but fair. Definitely worth a look if you're seeking new Thai eats - and with these portions, EAT you shall. R'noh Thai is smack dab in the middle of nowhere. Larkspur is also almost smack dab in the middle of nowhere, but R'noh Thai is even nowherier than the city it's located in, if that makes any sense--and I know it doesn't, even though it kinda does, especially if you know where R'noh Thai is within Larkspur. I had takeout from here a couple of times before I ate in. I meant to review it between the takeout and the dine-in. But I didn't. And I'm glad I didn't, but I will review separately in the same review. So there. TAKEOUT The food is delicious. It's packaged well and efficiently (no leaking anywhere), and they put it right from the steaming pot/saucepan/frying pan/whatever-kitchen-implement-they-cooked-it-in into the takeout container(s). You might even need to let it cool down once you get to your fabulous Marin home. The price is a little bit high for Thai takeout, but it's not outrageous, and the portions do seem large. (So many places skimp on the takeout portion sizes.) DINE-IN The food is delicious. The people who work here are nice, and they seem attentive, although they also seem worried about possibly bothering you to ask whether you need anything. I'll generally take that over the constant hovering/"How is everything?" routine, but my water did need refiling more than once during dinner. I love the restaurant itself. It's not quite what you'd expect it to be from the strange parking lot that overlooks some kind of hidden Marin wetlands--Marin has wetlands?--but it's homey and all decked out and colorful and just mysterious enough to be intriguing without being some kind of thing you'd remember from childhood because of how magical it always seemed. This is the best Thai restaurant I've been in since the demise of Lana Thai (My all time favorite.) R'Noh has great food and excellent service. A pleasant view from the deck completes the picture in good weather. I have tried a number of Thai restaurants in Marin and R'Noh always comes out on top. I love Thai soups and would like to make a full meal of Tom Yum, Tom Ka Gai or Thai Coconut Shrimp soup. And R'Noh has great soups. I wish they would serve ultra-large bowls of it. I eat here alot and love it! I gave it 4 stars since the food is consistantly great and they make the best tom ka soup this side of the GG bridge. The curries are yummy. I had a panang curries that was so flavorful! The wait staff are so pleasant and kind as well. There are great lunch specials and I found myself one Saturday starving. So I ordered the fresh rolls, always fabulous, the salmon panang, and a thai ice tea. I finished it all ! The waiter came over and said, good girl, you ate all.! Laughs... I then remembered in this part of Marin, women don't eat and if they do, they only push their food around and take it to go afterwards. What a concept, me, a woman who cleans her plate ! :) And proud of it! The decor is cozy, and on a rainy day, the fireplace inviting. When weather warms up, the outside patio is restful. My sweetie and I were on our way to east bay and stopped in 'cuz we were starving. Yelpers rated this one a 4+ stars so we were excited to put our taste buds to work! The ambiance is warm and cozy (the second room is the cozier of the two) with a two-sided fireplace that makes for a romantic meal if you're accompanied by someone special. I'm not sure if you can reserve one of the two fireside tables, but it might be worth a phone call ahead! We started out with the Miang Kam, which happens to be my favorite Thai appetizer. The serving was large, and though there weren't any dried shrimp, the flavors were complete without it. Crunchy, toasty, bitter, sweet, salty, sour - we need a north American version of this amazing dish! Our entrees were the pumpkin chicken curry (special) and the garlic eggplant with chicken. Both had organic chicken options which was a nice touch! Large portions and savory-sweet on the tooth had us dishing up to the groaning point. Simple, delicious and full of meat and veggies! My main complaint with most Thai places is the total lack of edible items within their curries, concealed by a large quantity of sauce. At R'noh Thai this is never an issue. Fresh vegetables and meats abound, flavors made better by curries and spices rather than hidden. When you go there be sure to get their coconut rice, it is to die for. read more

I've tried this restaurant 3 times now. The Tom-Ka soup broth is excellent. I prefer this with tofu. That was a disappointment. They use the squishy kind, which in my opinion is inappropriate for this soup. It is much better when they put the firmer fried kind in the soup. The cabbage in the soup is too huge to navigate. The next time I tried the Tom-Ka soup with chicken. The chicken was totally rubbery and inedible. Another point, and this may be supremely picky, but the square bowl isn't soup-friendly like a round bowl is, as your spoon cannot glide around the bowl. Each time I've gone, on a friend's recommendation, I've had the fresh spring rolls. They are spectacularly good. The service hasn't been the friendliest. Delicious Thai food served in a beautiful and calm decor by some excellent staff members. During a recent lunch, we had veggie spring rolls with peanut sauce. Oh, so crunchy and fresh! I ordered one of their lunch specials: a ginger and lemon grass chicken dish with brown rice. It came with a beautiful fresh greens and vegetable salad. The chicken was tender and the entire dish was so flavorful. Chef certainly knows how to slice white-meat chicken for the dish so that it is tender and easy to cut. The salad was excellent with its pile of shredded carrot and long ruby threads of beet. My dining companions each ordered a lamb curry (not on the menu, but one person in our group knows the chef and knows that there's usually lamb curry available) with brown rice. Each dish was served with one of those lovely salads. They were quite happy with their meals. Looking forward to eating here again. read more
