R'Noh Thai restaurant is a gem. The food is consistantly excellant in the best Thai tradition. The kitchen is willing to tailor dishes to the diners taste. They even make dishes that are no longer on the menu. My favorite is the Ginger Chicken. The ambiance is both welcoming and relaxing. This is one of the few restaurants that is quiet enough for a true conversation. Who ever decorated the restaurant showed taste and style. There is a fireplace that opens into both rooms. If it is warm, you can eat outside by the estuary. And the entry dining room is graced by a teak elephant Service is superior. Staff remember what you like, remember what you ordered the last time. It is pretty amazing. Lastly, this is a place to bring a sweetheart, a date, to meet old friends, to entertain guests from out of town or to meet for a family meal. This is a family institution. When you drive by, you have no clue there is a Zagat rated gourmet Thai place hiding amongst the Pilates studios and real estate offices of Kentfield. It's totally worth it. The curries and pad Thai are great go-tos, but honestly, I have not had anything bad here. Every item is fresh and delicious and the folks who work there are phenomenal. I really wish we had half stars. I think this is 3.5 stars, but since the service was so nice I'll round up. The people who run this place are really nice. The people who patronize this place aren't always so nice. Especially when you walk in with two kids and they automatically get up to move tables. Um, hey asshole! Yeah you, with your shirt tucked into your jeans and your braided leather belt pulled nice and tight across your old man gut, which might I add is oh so sexy. This is a small casual Thai place in Marin, not Gary Danko in the city where I'd expect to get nasty looks for bringing kids. So fuck you. Plus, these kids are going to be good and sit here and cut up the rinds from the oranges that come in the water and then decorate their plates with the little pieces. The only time you'll even hear us is when I teach them to (quietly) sing their favorite songs like Tom Waits would sing them. But you know what? I'm glad you changed seats. Know why? Looking at your fat wife with her bad plastic surgery would've ruined my appetite. So anyway, the food here is good. I agree with Zomb E - the pad thai isn't the best I've ever had. But the fresh spring rolls just might be. And their panang curries are delicious. The Tom Ka soup is really good too, just make sure you ask for some red pepper on the side because it's not really spicy enough. If you're in the neighborhood, come by. Bring your kids (or your boss's kids). Piss off the crusty old Kentfield people. And definitely teach the kids to sing like Tom Waits. read more

I had been to this place 3 times in 2 months. Each time they mess up the order and then the staff gets irate when they realize that they made a mistake. The first time, while on a date, I asked for Shrimp salad and they brought me beef. The waitress argued with me saying that "Mam, you said Beef." Which clearly as a Pescotarian, I would never ask for beef. The second time, I asked for STEAMED vegetables and wishing 7 minutes of ordering they bring me vegetables with oils and some nasty oyster sauce taste. This evening, I asked again for the HOT SPICY BASIL, STEAMED. This order was for pick up, upon arrival only 9 minutes after placing the order, they had my order ready however I walked to the restroom first, before buying and paying for my order. They looked at me very funny as if I was some pedestrian only using the restroom. Once I went to pay for my order, I made sure that these were clearly STEAMED VEGETABLES. The waitress, who happened to be the rude one I always seem to run into, said "Would you like to check your food before you go home?" I did and clearly the vegetables were NOT STEAMED. I think I came to this place with really high expectations based on the yelp reviews but was disappointed. While it wasn't bad, it just wasn't great or the "best in the bay area" by any means. I've definitely had better. We ordered the pumpkin curry and panang curry with chicken. I liked the sauce for the pumpkin curry much better than the panang curry but the really tough chicken kind of ruined both dishes for us. It was really chewy and tough. The place obviously has a huge following among locals, with many repeat visitors such as ourselves. I currently consider it my favorite Bay Area Thai restaurant. So many Veggie pad Thais are sprinkled with just a few slices of carrot and some bean sprouts, not this one. It is full of all kinds of vegetables; sweet potatoes, broccoli, carrots green onions. It also has a generous portion of tofu and a very flavorful sauce. Don't miss the appetizers either. You can't go wrong with any but if they are having a special get that! We got here about 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon, and their sign says they close at 3pm. So nice to sit outside, was so peaceful couldn't beat the view. Thai iced tea was tasty and refreshing. The crab wontons were obviously fried, but not like greasy or heavy. Definitely some of the best I've had. Both our main meals were delish (basil chicken and noodle curry), we will definitely be headed back. We were also happy to take home leftovers as the portions were large. I have been coming here for four years and I have yet to be disappointed. I always order their Yellow Curry with a side order of sticky rice and Pad Thai. Their servings are large and there's always plenty to take home. The Yellow Curry has huge chunks of chicken and various vegetables. Its spiciness is balanced off with a sweet, coconuty taste; perfect over sticky rice. I love their Pad Thai. They serve it with an assortment of vegetables that do not overpower the noodles. I hate when Pad Thai has more vegetable than noodles. An extra plus is that their workers are really nice. Not quite sure how this gets a four or five star restaurant -- it's solid Americanized Thai food but nothing special. In Marin? I definitely prefer Bay Thai. Tom kha gai - chicken was a bit dry and the soup, while pleasantly sour, had no spice whatsoever. Yes, it is customary to include Thai (bird's eye) chilis in this soup. Pad kee mow - red like it had chilis, labeled spicy on the menu, but was extremely mild in practice and the chicken was fairly dry. R'noh Thai is my favorite Thai restaurant in Marin! The setting is absolutely beautiful and the food is wonderful. I love being able to sit outside, relax, and enjoy the view. I've ordered a few of the different curries, pad see ew, pad thai, and the mango salad. Everything has always been delicious and the staff is extremely friendly. I actually had dinner at R'noh this past weekend, and despite the fact that they were full our party was able to be squeezed in. A personal fave. The patio on the marshy pond is very relaxing on a warm summer (or winter!) day. All the food is consistent and as described, with some exceptionally good. The yellow chicken curry is great, the healthy non fried spring rolls are yummy, and they have a nice selection of thai friendly wines. Also a great place for take out. In our opinion, used to be 5 star, sad to say currently we give it two stars. Seafood coconut soup excellent, spring rolls excellent, but meat dried out and tasteless. The chicken in vegetable curry and beef in pumpkin curry tasted dried out, tough, tastless. We think it was frozen leftovers. This happened the last three visits on the lunch special. Three strikes your out. That was our last visit. Service was fine not great. They served me wrong order, no worries Except rice was cold when dried out pumpkin beef finally arrived after my husband had already had eaten half his dried out chicken curry. It was great for several years. My husband and I both don't feel great right now like we ate something rotten. I only ate a bit, brought it hime fir tomorrows lunch.
