Came back at night for the first time. I was struggling to get my last bit of studying done for the night as I'm studying for a big med school test. Roast & Brew is much more lively at night (which I love) but not to the point that it is overly distracting. The combo of people hanging out for a late night snack or meet up with the quiet studiers was the perfect wake up drug. Also, the coffee shop redeemed a star with me because their freshly squeezed juice was great! I asked the barista what she thought of the carrot juice and she recommended half carrot and half orange-- a great pairing. Since it was late (9:30pm), didn't feel like I needed caffeine so this was perfect. Great coffee, great ambiance, nice people, nice clientele. They did accidentally double charge me for a drink and were very apologetic. My wife loved the latte and I really enjoyed the house coffee. I came here to change my environment for my livestream. The patio was nice and shady with enough fans to keep the air circulating. Service was pretty quick, no line when I arrive at around 2pm, and I got my order within 10 mins. I got an iced caramel macchiato with coconut milk and it was alright, 5/10. I liked the salmon Ceasar salad I got 7.5/10, the dressing could've been a little better and the salmon was a little dry. Definitely will try some new items next time I'm there! read more

Extremely cute European and Greek specialty coffee and pastry shop. By far my favorite coffee spot in the heights to grab a mocha and pull out my laptop or meet a friend for board games. This spot reminds me of my favorite coffee shop when I was in college and I love how quiet it is but still busy for a coffee shop! It feels like a community when I stop by. One day we came in and the cutest baby shower was going on in a corner. There are always lots of students studying or quaint dates. I'd definitely recommend this spot to anyone! After seeing several videos on TiKTok about this coffee shop, I decided to check this place out on an early Monday morning. Extremely quiet and peaceful, but seating quickly started to fill in before the clock struck 8am. The baristas were just a tad bit rude, not willing to help with the menu or answer any questions, but hey to be fair it was 7am so maybe they were still waking up! I order a oat milk cappuccino with honey, my typical coffee order, a freddocino for my mother, and we both ordered breakfast dishes. Unfortunately, I simply could not finish my drink. After taking one sip, my coffee tasted extremely sour and burnt. I assumed perhaps they forgot to add the honey, so I tried to add a sugar packet to my drink and it made it taste even worse. I go back to the counter and order another drink, an oat milk cortado with honey, and it tastes the exact same as my cappuccino did; sour and BURNT. As a barista myself, I know bad coffee when I taste it. It was extremely obvious in the taste of the espresso that the coffee was not dialed in correctly or I was simply given an espresso shot out of the correct shot time frame. My mom really enjoyed her freddocino though! And both breakfast sandwiches that we ordered were fantastic! The food alone is a reason for going back, however drink wise I will probably just try a tea next time! read more

I drove by roast & brew on the way to an errand so I had to swing by to check it out. It def gives me modern day Agora vibes with the Greek items. We ordered the freddo cappuccino, ham Swiss pie, and a pistachio baklava. I had never had a freddo cappuccino before, but I got it iced and I finished it in about 2 sips. It was strong, but basically an espresso shot on ice. I really enjoyed the snacks. The ham Swiss pie was really tasty. The phyllo dough was so flaky and it was a great casing for the ham and Swiss. Pistachio baklava is my favorite so if you love baklava this one is a must to try. Will stop by again to try other drinks when I'm in the area, but prob wouldn't order the freddo cappuccino again. read more

But I've got a new favorite: Roast & Brew It's a little Greek-inspired coffee shop in the Heights that serves traditional Greek food like gyros, lamb, falafel, pastries, and American options like hamburgers. They also have an incredible selection of coffees and custom drinks. I'm really impressed by how friendly everyone there is--it felt like a place where everyone knew each other. The staff was super helpful and friendly, I went with a friend and asked for recommendations for which menu items were their favorites and they recommended the Gyro platter which was so good the lamb was tender and juicy and tahini sauce was extra creamy and the garlic flavor was on point. . We had the Frappuccino (so good), and my partner had the frappe. They have indoor seating with a few outlets for your computers if you need to work or study on-site, as well as outdoor seating if you want to enjoy some fresh air while you sip your java. They probably left it out for too long, so it was way past its prime by the time I bought it. The same can probably be said for all the other pastries this place sells. Excellent! Love that the Shady Acres area is getting some coffee shop love! This place is going to do so well - the staff is incredible, the space is open and light, and the menu has your standard coffeehouse delights with a few extra perks like affogato and a Greek frappe. The owners went out of their way to make guests feel welcome, taking pictures of them with the cheeky "God save the bean" mural. Lots of parking, too. Came in on a Friday evening and it was fairly quiet and there was available parking. A lot of seating indoors and dim lighting. At the counter, I ordered the breakfast croissant which came with potatoes and a Greek salad. I didn't like the fact that there was an upcharge for everything on the sandwich - even $1.20 for cheese - so the cost of the dish adds up quickly. The sandwich was good (after adding cheese and avocado) but the potatoes and side salad were bland. I ordered a mocha latte which wasn't bad, however, I've had better. I've been meaning to try this coffee shop out-- this is a great place to study and work!! Came here a few times to study and to wedding plan with my fiancé and we enjoyed it. The coffee here is actually super good compared to other cafes. The flavors aren't washed out by the water or milk, so we absolutely appreciate the baristas for making great coffees! The staff and baristas are all super friendly and we love the chill music that is played here. They have tons of European decor and books/magazines around the tables and front. Aside from the great coffee and staff, this place has good reliable wifi. Their wifi info is written on the chalk board in front and there's no limit! There are also various plugs for laptops/phones chargers. There is plenty of inside seating at tables, couches, window high seats, and also a small patio section outside! A couple things that stop me from giving 5 stars: small parking lot and the food item I tried. The parking lot is usually full so people tend to park on the grassy area across the cafe. I tried a spinach and feta pie which was okay. It was cold when I got it and hard to bite into. Overall lacking flavor as well. I'm willing to try different food options tho as it seems other items are reviewed well. Definitely coming back to study and try more coffee/food options. read more

I've only been here a handful of times, but I've tried different coffee, pastries and food each time and all have been amazing. I was visiting Houston for the long Labor Day weekend, and I had to come here twice because it was that good. I usually don't like these pricier coffee spots, but this one was worth every single penny. The first time, we ordered one matcha latte, and one strawberry matcha latte. The matcha latte was good, but that strawberry matcha was to DIE for. I have never had matcha that was so smooth and silky and creamy. I was a little shocked to see that there weren't any strawberry chunks, but the strawberry flavor was definitely there. The vibe was very hipster here. They had a ton of salads and foods from other cultures, and also some alcoholic options. Was looking for a coffee spot to do some reading and writing into the evening, and this one popped up as one of the few in Houston that is open late (until midnight seven days a week). The place has a tastefully eclectic decor, with walls covered by old posters and travel advertisements of cities throughout Europe (Less youthful Houstonians will appreciate the 90s era Continental Airlines placard). There's also a "God Save the Bean" mural of Queen Elizabeth II and framed coffee bags from around the world such as Brazil, Honduras, and Ethiopia. Seating is more than ample with lots of tables and chairs spaced throughout. As far as menu items, there is food (all-day breakfast and primarily Greek and Italian-type dishes), beer, and wine on offer in addition to coffee. I was also happy to see that all said coffee is sourced locally from Houston roaster Geva Coffee. On this occasion, I just ordered regular drip coffee as I didn't need anything extravagant, Ordering brought the one criticism of the entire experience which was that the barista seemed a bit inexperienced and didn't know what country of origin the coffee beans for that day's drip coffee were when asked. No matter, though, as the coffee tasted good regardless, and I asked more out of curiosity than any actual snobbishness or concern I'm often more of a nocturnal person, but as mentioned before, it can be hard to find quality coffee places in Houston that cater to the evening crowd.
