Extremely busy coffee shop. Tables jammed up against each other. Got just a large black coffee and used my own almond milk creamer. Restaurant layout is long and narrow and you order halfway into the restaurant. Which leads you to feel like a salmon swimming upstream against the tide of incoming people when you try to leave. read more

Horrible service! Girl that took our order was not listening and was instead chatting with fellow employees, and not aware of menu items and whether or not soup was even available when ordering. Order was massed up even though it was the exact item on the menu, wrong dressing was used. Rude, unprofessional and dirty environment. Don't recommend, way better places in town. read more

Went in knowing nothing at all about the place but the design was kooky and colorful so why not! Bear in mind I've worked in coffee for 13 years now and expect about as much customer service as I give. My fiance and I walk in to a very loud man behind the counter ranting to a trainee about some abusive girlfriend and other very not work appropriate conversation so much so that the cashier mentioned aloud that "maybe that's not work appropriate conversation". I then ask for two cortados, which are on their menu and described as double shots with 2oz of steamed milk. The very nice cashier takes the order to which the loud man yells "they're lattes!" to the trainee. (They are not lattees) my fiance says, "do you want to go somewhere else?" And I do, but I want to see if he actually makes us cortados. Meanwhile this loud guy continues to yell every little thing that comes to his head; arrogant obnoxious garbage. Lo and behold he gives me lattes with like an inch of room from the top. When I tell him these are not cortados, he tells me that this is the way that he was trained to make them and that it is hard for them to make cortados "to go" because the cup sizes are different, which is nonsense, especially because the drink is described on their menu. So then I ask him to remake them and see him talk some crap about me to his coworker. He made the drinks over again, and then explained that that's the way he was trained again, despite me telling him what I wanted. Maybe you have some better baristas here, but that guy needs to go. read more

I live in the Petoskey area and pop into Roast and Toast once in awhile for lunch. I was there last week with a friend and we agreed on a couple of observations. The food is good and it has a fun and friendly atmosphere, but it needs a good make over! The carpeting is gross, the furniture is worn out, the walls need a good painting and the local art on the walls needs to be updated. If I had friends in from out of town or was going to lunch with my mom, I would not go to Roast and Toast for these reasons. Please give it a little Tender Loving Care. Thanks! read more

We have gone to Roast & Toast almost every time we are in Petoskey, and I love them for their hot beverages. I was particularly excited last Sunday to find hot apple cider offered! I would give them 5 stars for their drinks. But their food is nothing to rave about, and the food menu is awkward to read because patrons are sitting (or standing and hugging) right in front of it. Later, I discovered they have printed menus by the front door, but the person who directed us to the board didn't mention that. We ate lunch on Sunday and it was OK. We came in at the tail end of lunchtime and it was very load and chaotic, with staff shouting out names of people whose orders were ready. I vowed never to sit near the kitchen area again if I can help it. We were sort of forced to eat breakfast there on Tuesday because there wasn't another place open within walking distance for breakfast. It was quieter than our previous visit but the scrambled eggs were very dry and uninspired. I appreciated the fresh grapes and the sourdough toast, but my second slice of toast was drowning in butter. I guess you don't have to try very hard when you're the only game in town, but I will reserve my future visits for hot drinks. read more

Would give this 3 1/2 stars if that was possible :) Well, I went back for breakfast! Twice!:) My husband liked the bacon and we both liked the french toast. The baked eggs were so-so. I didn't care for the blueberry pancakes, they were very dry and I barely ate one of the three. I had a chocolate/fruit muffin....I'm not sure what was in it exactly, they said it was chocolate chunk but there was definitely a fruit flavor and some kind of nut in there too. It was good, just not what I expected. I tried an Accidental Tourist--basically a mocha with peanut butter...mmmm. Kind of chaotic with people ordering, then sitting down, then hopping back up to get their food at the counter when their name is called, so don't expect a relaxing atmosphere. Lively coffee shop in downtown Petoskey. Stopped in for a midday caffeine fix, and the place didn't disappoint. The drink menu is really busy with tons of options, thus making it a bit difficult to decipher, but I landed on the Butterfinger Mocha which was superb. This place would be a 5-star except that I overheard one staffer loudly complaining about/yelling at customers who didn't hear their name when called. I understand it's annoying for customers to not immediately come get their orders, but it was unprofessional nonetheless. read more

We ducked in here about 11 a.m. last Friday just to get out of the windchill and snow blowing sideways. It was busy and friendly, had a fun assortment of ages, genders and styles, very laid back. My husband got a mug of great Kenyan coffee. I decided to try the Baked Alaska chai, but the barista warned me it was a cold drink. My disappointed look told him all he needed to know, so he said it could easily be made hot and I accepted. It was terrific! Both drinks cost us $5 and change, well worth it. Another day later in the week we stopped in McLean and Eakin Booksellers next door, bought a newspaper and took it into Roast and Toast for another round of hot drinks and a leisurely read.
